The first ever "prepper" book I ever read was "Alas, Babylon" by Pat Frank. Warned by his Air Force officer brother that a nuclear war is a very real soon to occur threat, the main character goes to the grocery store and buys up multiple grocery carts of food. Unfortunately, he buys a freezer full of steaks, butter, ice cream, etc. One of the first things to happen on day one of the war is that the electricity is permanently knocked out. A few days later they open the freezer to find the carefully wrapped expensive steaks floating in a sea of melted butter, etc. They're forced to throw a big barbecue to cook and eat much of the meat before it spoils, only saving some by salting or canning it. As the main character ponders his mistake, he realizes he should have bought "canned meat by the case". That has always stuck with me. Canned meat has the concentrated protein and calories that you'll need in a prepper situation.
“A meal isn’t a meal unless it’s got meat in it”, absolutely correct. If we normally consume meat in our meals, then we need to prepare the same meals for long term.
Most shelf-stable foods are safe indefinitely. In fact, canned goods will last for years, as long as the can itself is in good condition (no rust, dents, or swelling). Packaged foods (cereal, pasta, cookies) will be safe past the ‘best by’ date, although they may eventually become stale or develop an off flavor. You’ll know when you open the package if the food has lost quality. Many dates on foods refer to quality, not safety.
Most all you soups should have beans , lentals, and or rice . Have canned navy, lima, white and red kidney beans ,pinto beans . Large crowd 2 cans of carrots, green beans, corn navy beans, pinto beans kidney beans, potatoes , your favorite meat ,tomatoes sauce and stewed tomatoes , dried onions what you like in spices add instant rice , 3 to4 quarts liquid heat and can feed 15 no problem
Most canned food will last long past 10 years, but it does vary with the conditions. I also like to rotate out very acid foods or buy them in glass, like, tomatoes, pickles or saurkraut.
Fats and protein are ESSENTIAL nutrients, carbs are NOT...stay away from simple carbs (the sweet ones) and trans fats, too, and get a good quality multi vitamin 😋

deduction: stock what you eat.
I just purchased a pressure canner. Can't wait to get started!
I just got a new one. Do small amounts. It's exhausting. 😅
@@Janicealcock It gets easier. Lol. I promise

Great video!!! Thank you
I appreciate it!
Love your posts.
The best canned food to stockpile, for survival and prepping, is the one that you can afford!
Thanks for the info
Your welcome

Got protein….got everything
You should never cook or warm anything in the can. There is a plastic liner that will leech out into the food.
😊😊Thanks for the reminder!!!!
Thanks. I didn’t realize that ❤
What are Ranch Beans? Will you be doing another cooking class/show for us?
Hoping you all are doing well.
Great channel, just subscribed. Your thoughts on storing instant rice vacuum sealed w/oxygen absorbers?
Skip the instant rice. A lot of the nutrients have been stripped from it. Long grain rice for the win!
How long does the average Can food last? ive seen 20 years 10 years or not long after expiration date?

Thanks for the video. Just a little correction - corn is a starch, not a vegetable.
Corn is a vegetable and a starch. Starch is an outdated term.
Botanically corn is a fruit , vegetable and grain. I don't care as long as I have it on hand. Add some of anything You want to it .

Are you still living in the '80's food pyramid? Saturated fats ARE good for you.
Pork Chops fried in Bacon fat…… Mmmmmm Good…. also very healthy!! 😂 French Fries & Eggs Benedict drenched with Hollandaise Sauce….. food to die for. 😂
