How many cats you have to collect so many plastic litter buckets ? I only have one cat and start to buy those litter buckets; i need a lot to put my stuff.
When I first started my rotating prepping pantry, my husband and son thought I was nuts. Then he lost his job and he was so happy I started it. We go to the stores once a month for a stock up.
Seeing this was super helpful. Thank you! Tip for Free 5 gallon food grade buckets with lids: my friend works at the grocery store bakery. They have so many of those white buckets they just throw away. You might have to clean frosting or flour out of them but can ask your local bakers if you can have them.
I used to get mine from wallyworld. 4 of em I went to and asked all said they don't sale or give them anymore. I used to pay 1.00 for the frosting buckets. No more.
@@breesechick This last winter I was able to get free black 5gl buckets from a company that uses alot of ice-melt. They're food grade buckets too. Car wash company also has food grade buckets.
@@salgaltrixie8265 wish I could share a pic with you. Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read the listing of them for sale. Pd $2 ea 5gl . I already tore off all the lables. Ea contains a concentrated liquid that has a very high alcohol content. I can't remember what it's called. I cleaned and sanitized them and filled with well water. Had to leave the lids off to let the alcohol smell evaporate even after sanitized. They don't smell anymore. Still sitting empty. Waiting to get a pallet to put em on.

That’s an impressive stockpile. Well thought out. I really don’t prep but I have started buying extra staples. And I have always put out a decent sized garden. My thought is that having all of what you have is great. But if we are talking survival, we don’t need a stockpile of every food item that we like. I’m not criticizing. I’m just saying that having all of our favorite sauces and dressings are really just a bonus. And if we have peanut butter and jelly and bbq sauce etc, we will be getting more than enough sugar for energy. I’ve not been watching for very long so this may have been talked about already, but I think a great way that all of us can be saving money on food is to start fasting one meal a day. Most Americans are overweight as it is. It would also condition our bodies and our minds to live on less. One thing I did during the pandemic was to walk 3 miles every day. I kept my immune system up and my mind clear of all of the stress. I know that’s a bit off subject but I is a way to keep us from needing so much medication by keeping our bodies healthy.
I am in Florida and don't want to stock food in the hot garage. I put extra foods in bins. I number each bin and write down on a sheet of paper all that is in the bin and tape it on the lid so I know what each bin contains. I also wrote down each bins contents on a sheet of paper and put each bin content copied into a dollar store three ring note book with all the contents of what bin it is in and what I have stored. I store the bins in my closets . This works for me in the heat of Florida as I rather store in the house where it is temperature controlled. Paper products and cleaners such as bleach, soap products etc are stored in the garage.
Here in Central Florida, we live in a small condo. No garage. I’m finding ingenious ways to store our vacuum sealed, Mylar sealed, dry food etc. Do I really need ALL those holiday decorations?? 😂
Record how much you use in a week. Multiply that by 52 now add 8 additional weeks worth for one year. This one weeks worth is how much you use for household.
My weeks are never the same. Family and friends are always visiting and we make sure nobody goes home hungry. 🤣😂 But, thanks for your insight. I'm going to do this. Scheduling the basics I guess is what I would buy every week for the 52 weeks and then those 8 extra weeks will be the splurge foods.😂🤣 Boy do we go through that quick.
That was an interesting take on angel hair pasta. I’ve always liked that particular type of pasta but I never thought of using it because it was an energy saver. So that was an interesting plus for the use of that particular kind of pasta, and I thank you for that.
I loved this video!! I'm a visual learner! Helps me feel less crazy and stocking things to not have to go to the store as much. It saves gas and by golly I always find more of what we need/want. Don't have that issue if I don't go to the store. And I got my Dining on a Dime Vol 1 ordered!
one of the things i love about you and your family is that you live what you talk about. the way you talk about God, your willingness to answer questions. Thank you all for helping us with your videos and your cookbooks. we have saved so much money. thank you!!!
Lots of good ideas! We live in NC with lots of bugs, humidity, mice, and high heat during the spring, summer and fall. I try to transfer stuff into glass or plastic to protect it.
I live in Arizona and I vacuum seal almost everything. As long as it won’t crush it to death it gets put into bags. Pasta gets put into jars and then I vacuum seal. I just vacuum sealed Cheez-Its and snacks into jars. Not only can bugs not get into it but sucking the air out makes it last long beyond the use by date.
@@karenewald5451 Yep, bug invasion is the first thing I thought of. I live in TX . Gallon and 1/2 gallon pickle jars hold all daily stuff (flour, oatmeal, rice, etc). Everything else goes into the freezer or buckets. Nothing is sadder than finding bugs in your cereal.
@@lindyupton2996 I learned the hard way with pantry moths one time! Lost so much food. Never again! Now everything is in sealed jars or air tight containers. No matter how clean of a person you are, those pesky bugs will hitch a ride from the grocery store right into your pantry; and then they multiply like rabbits lol.
Loved the stockpile tour. I consider that a very realistic stockpile. You see so many lists of store this and that, but when a real emergency happens you don’t know what to do with all that stuff. My motto is “store what you eat, and use it and replace it”. I know someone that has started a pretty good stockpile, but is eating out so they don’t use it. It’s going to spoil, if you don’t use it!
Love seeing how you're doing everything. I am doing some of our food the same as you guys, and I learned some things too!! Just one point The extra plastic bags??? I am storing them in pillow cases and throw them on the bed during the day!! Looks Great and our closet is kept organized better. Thanks Tawra and Mike!!
I am so happy to see you reusing the litter tubs for storage. I have been watching videos about pressure canning, freeze drying, mylar bags and getting totally overwhelmed. I will be watching more of your videos
Oh gosh me too! I have all the stuff, dehydrator, foodsaver with lid attachment, canning items and mylar with air absorbers. I have the food. I overwhelmingly do not know where to start or which is best for what. Calgone, take me away!!
@@aliciaokiegal Start with what is in season, you will eat it later? If so can it. The dehydrated food only last a year or so in a freezer, so can't put away much of any one thing, but canning you can. I haven't done anything in mylar. I just seal then wrap that with a ziplock bag, sucking out the air with a straw.
@@ytr3488 perhaps her paranoia is justified though. Is there anything wrong with recognizing instability within the food system and buying extra? With this clown show government and non-stop inflation with no end in sight, I think she's a smart woman for getting prepared in case things get worse.
I live in the tropics and we have issues with weavles in dry goods and mice. I put a dried bay leaf in all flour, pasta and rice. But I can only store food in glass or metal as the mice eat thru plastic. I guess what I'm trying to say is your storage status is great for you but many of us find it impossible to make it work .
Just a tip on the salt in the original containers: I watched a video by providentprepper a while back. They had stored some salt in the original containers and it absorbed moisture from the air and became solid and not useable so I put all of mine in jars. Thanks for the video.
@@icecreamladydriver1606 Salt has other uses besides culinary. Ice melt, preserving hides prior to tanning, if hard come by, though not perfect, I wouldn't discard it.
#10 can suggestions… honey powder, peanut butter powder, shortening powder. They are longterm preps I include and have several of each. Off the shelf is great but powdered is a great back up for extended longterm and is a hedge to the predicted food shortages and famine.
Oh I love seeing your supply and how it’s all organized! Gave me so many ideas. I really appreciate you and Mike. Also “fecal matter hits the oscillation unit scenario”- hilarious 🤣 GOD bless you and your family
Great stock up. I was able to get 5 gal. buckets from the flower store I work at. I will use them for storing foods in boxes or bags, like you use the litter containers. I stock up on pasta sauce and tomato-based items as we eat a lot of that. I don't have cereal because we don't eat it, but I do have quick oats. That's a good filler and if needed, we do like that and will eat it. I have our favorite ketchup, spices, that sort of thing. Great job. I'm looking forward to Wednesday's show!
Love this video and the information. I think people who criticize are just watching and not actually listening to your words while you go through the tour and explain everything in your pantry. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you for this video. It helps me to visualize the stockpile even though I live in a small house . I have some lamp oil but didn’t think about extra wicks, lighter, etc. I am a little envious of your stockpile room but I stockpiling canned goods under beds. I do not have a basement nor an attic. Great job!
You really have a lovely space for your stock pile/pantry and the metal shelving was a steal for sure. Thanks for sharing. BTW I am really looking forward to your studio kitchen to be shown. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Okay I said you have a nice stockpile of flour how long do you keep your flour past the expiration date. I buy a lot of my flower bulk from WinCo and I don't know what the date would have been on that flour.
Yes, you can cut the firestarters to make them go further, my mom used to do it. I make my own firestarters with shredded paper in wax paper cups that I add melted wax in. Your wonky soap shreds might be usable for dish water washing too. When I have a lot of soap slivers, I "melt them" in a jar with water and have washed dishes with the melt water. You have done really well for having recently moved, starting the pantry again. You might look at the thrift or garage sales for a chafing dish holder to put the sterno cans in that has a base for the pot to sit on top or have a safe method already to go for use for safety. I didn't see any water stored? Extra supplies for the oil lamps are a great idea, I will get some. I hope we get another tour when the new shelves are in. I would store more milk powder/creamer to use with the cocoa powder to make hot cocoa as in winter if there is no electricity I think you will be wanting more hot drinks. Those cheap spaghetti sauces in the can work great as a soup base for ministrone. Love what you do! Thanks for sharing.
Her soap shreds she said are fels naptha. That is a bar soap someone did a Lot of work shredding it! You mix some with borax & water, simmer & stir together. Makes very inexpensive laundry soap. I used to do it all the time, it's work, but worth it.
@@liberty8424 Yes! Sounds like my laundry soap recipe. My aunt used fels naphtha to spot clean stains before laundering too and said it did a great job. Zote smells really nice too and is a laundry soap. Ivory sells soap flakes. I have used my food processor grater to grate the soap.
@@witsonsmom729 yes, I've used Zote too! Haven't seen either lately at Walmart? I should get some for storage. Once mixed it will sour, so you only mix like a gallon at a time. But I remember it worked great!
You and your husband are so charming. Couldn't sleep. Found your video and loved every minute of useful tips and suggestions. Waiting for the stores to open to do some shopping. Grateful and thankful.
Wow! I'm so impressed by your set up and organization. Hope and I really need to up our game on meal prep. Our pantry is SO much smaller. We could probably survive for about 2 - 3 months on what we have. You are well prepared and have thought everything out thoroughly. Love the neat, simple arrangement of your pantry. You're inspiring us, Mike & Tawra. (Also love the humor in your presentation. That always helps during these challenging times.) God Bless!
How do you keep your boxed items from going stale or away from rodents? I've learned the hard way. I now vacuum seal and store in food grade buckets with gamma lids.
Vac sealing and then freezing for 5 days is a great way to preserve flour, oats, rice, etc. sets you up for success. Here’s nothing worse than cracking open one of your treasured items and it has to be tossed out.
@@liberty8424 You won't get weevils,, bugs, larvae, eggs if you freeze your product for a minimum of three days the place in food saver bags. I'm in NM, That is what I do.
Tawra, you should separate your canned pineapple right away and put those cans in a plastic tub or something. Many preppers have said their canned pineapple has leaked (the acid from the citrus eats through the can relatively quickly), and they have contaminated the food next to them. Just a suggestion.
It used to be that grocery stores would sell the dented cans at a reduced price. I have never seen Walmart do it. I will not buy any dented or rusted cans. Well, a small dent is o.k. if I know I am going to use it right away.
This is exactly what the people manufacturing this issue wants us to do. We really need to focus on BOYCOTTING the things running short. Let’s get together and grow our own food. Share excess with others who are elderly or have no yard/patio.
It's just me in the household and I figured I have enough stockpiled for a yr. I do have to say that when it comes to making bread I splurge and use the Gold Metal flour. I have tried the off brands and just don't like the taste. Thank you for all of your hard work on the videos.
Love my pepper pantry soooo much...only 3 times since 1990 I let mine go to barely bare NEVER NEVER again...thank goodness it didn't happen thru covid issues....Love your pantry 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for all of the effort you put into this, as it's super helpful for me, especially for GF & DF items which our family need due to health problems. QUESTIONS: 1. How long can coconut oil be stored for? Is it only 2 years, like I see online? 2. Do you have a good site to buy coconut oil in bulk cheaply (that sells to Aussies)? 3. Have you found a dried milk powder that's DF? 4. I saw you have lots of pasta sauces, but I thought that tomatoes in tins last less time... how long do they last? Thanks HEAPS for helping me.🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
I enjoy seeing what other people are storing - you did a great job, thanks for sharing. P.S. Your Ramen noodles are healthier than the standard Maruchan brand which is what a lot of people buy because those are what are available in bulk in stores, at least around my area. The noodles in that brand have other ingredients that aren't healthy, that's why people say they aren't good for you.
me too! I have too much out in my HOT GARAGE. I need to get it all down in the basement because the summers are too hot. I need to start emptying those shelves. My problem is I buy a ton of "specialty" items with good intentions but then when I can't find I go buy more and it's just a vicious cycle. This has inspired me to get ORGANIZED!
Thank you for showing your stock pile. My daughter had a bad storm where she lives Saturday afternoon. Trees down power outages. It’s been 72 hours and no power and no estimated time either. I am lucky to have power an hour away. I told her she needs to prepare for stuff like this.
I really enjoyed seeing your stock. I have been working on mine and seeing someone else's really helps. Wish I had a larger space to store everything. Really wish I had a basement.
Prep up on jarred bouillon (all types); Stock up on salt/pepper and honey (honey is a natural anti-inflammatory, many purposes); limited storage space: empty the bottom of EVERY drawer in your house-condo-apartment (clothes dressers, home offices drawers, kitchen cupboard drawers, storage closets drawers, etc.) and STACK IT UP. For storing multiple packets of dried soup mixes, gravy mixes, sauce mixes, spaghetti sauce mixes, any packaged seasonings, packaged dehydrated food products, etc.:: empty all shoe boxes to store said goods and label boxes accordingly. Line up the packets in shoe boxes as if each box were a file cabinet drawer, label accordingly, and STACK IT UP! Finally, do not discard glass jars with lids, of any type. You'll need these to fill with essentials to help others. Peace be to all.
I use shoe boxes with locking lids to store my seasoning packets in. I have also put spaghetti in shoe boxes and have some for storing other items as well, such as matches, candles, etc.
Here's an easy way to cook pasta. Boil water, put pasta in water, bring back to boil, stir, cover and let sit 15 minutes. Comes out perfect every time! No need to boil for 7 or 8 minutes like the package says. This works for almost every kind of pasta out there except perhaps angel hair. I would let that sit longer.
@@sandrareamsnyder9085 So have I!!! The amount of gas (or electricity) you save over the course of a month accumulates & the utility companies dont need our money as much as we do plus their rates 😳 are inflated to begin with. NYC recently got hit w/a 24% increase!!.
I vacuum sealed cereals with absorbers. Cereal is a huge comfort item for my kiddo. No one should fault you for that. Our boxed cereals are rotated as our rotating pantry is organized by expiry.
Thanks for the info. IT helps to see ideas for what to stock up on. One of my next project is to organize my smaller stock pile because I’m finding it hard to find things. We will come to your house if we need cereal 😊
The just add water Pancake mix is great for other than pancakes. You can make it into bread for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Toast the pancake and now you have toast for your eggs. Add spices cheese etc and now you have a savory dinner. Pancake mix can be used for many many things.
Hey tawra..you do you..you don't have to answer rude comments from ignorant people..us smart ones or ones that learn from your channel..we gets it. Once of my favorite things that I learned from you was an ice cream recipe that was my favorite..I think it was make 2 ingredient ice cream..but I have some filed recipe books I wrote that recipe down in..last summer I made some and one of my adult sons loved it. And your brownie recipe was great..I had made it several times. Keep doing what you doing..tawra.
I really enjoyed the tour! It gave me some ideas for what to stock up. I have a 1150 sf home for 4 of us, so I have limited space to stock up. I have at least 1 to 2 extra of everything. I need to figure out how to pack the stock so that it takes little room and I can fit more, but still be able to see and rotate. We also buy a lot of cereal boxes when on sale too. We use it for breakfast, snacks , dessert, and easy food if power goes out.
Cube shelving. It can be set under windows, cloth on it, put chairs/sm. sofa in front of it. Anywhere from 2x2, 3x2. 4x2, 3x3. Vertical or horizontal setup. Separate by category, by year. etc. The folding cubes give more privacy too. I have 5 different
We have a little 1000sq ft home. Vertical metal shelving is what we are doing. I did a few videos on my channel about storage pantry ideas for small homes.
Remember unused space under beds and cabinets that are holding things you really don’t need. Man, I went through and got rid of all sorts of things and that gave me a lot of more space.
@@nvalles2565 Thanks for the tips. I don't really have unused space, I already found them all and already filled it, lol. We are pretty minimal and still have space filled up. We do use it all. I may see if I can arrange things better in those areas to make room.
Good choice with the alcohol. You can also use it to sterilize surgical equipment and your hands. You should also consider over canning with your rice. Only white rice though because brown rice has oil in it. You can do the same with your dry cereals too. Dry beans can be oven canned too. They shouldn't be stored in their plastic bags.
Love those fantastic metal shelves, , I bought 2 like those when they were relatively inexpensive, but have since resorted to wood and plastic ones, since I had to get my stocks off the floor, and needed whatever I could find either on Marketplace or tag sales. VERY impressive!
I keep my flours, sugar,. Rice and pasta in 5 gallon food safe buckets, with gamma lids. We live in the country, in an old farmhouse. I worry about mice and bugs. Couldn't keep things in bags like that. Your supply is good. I would keep alot more white vinegar, can be used for so much
Enjoyed the tour, good to see your just like the rest of us, a few things out of place and need to get to it later. I'm now inspired to tidy up my pantry as I left few bags on the floor to get to later. Real people real life. I will be watching for your new kitchen.
Than you so much for all the info. You talked about some things I hadn’t thought of or didn’t know. BTW, welcome to Wyoming! Got all your cookbooks, but I need to get another (3rd one!) Gluten-free cookbook…actually, I’ll probably get two since I have a five year old nephew who is gluten-free. His mom could use it!! Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I just ordered a 3 books. We are thinking my granddaughter is gluten sensitive. So I bought the book to try the recipes and see what I need to store for her.
So great! Thanks for sharing. We have 8 people and ours is nothing like this, but it's getting there. In fact, we actually ran out of sugar the other week, and that's something we try to keep stockpiled, so I realized I'm not quite as organized as I'd like. 😕 We have found space under our bed, in my closet, in our youngest boys' closet, and other nooks and crannies all around the house.
Praise the Lord for that excellent deal on the shelving units!!! 😀 Will you do another video after you have everything in place? I have an important question about dented cans. Is it ok if I dented the cans myself (fell down on my porch when bringing in some bags) a little over a month ago? They're in a way where the seals haven't been broken, but I'm a little concerned now that maybe I let them sit on the counter too long. I'd hate to throw them away if they're still good to use, but I'd hate even more to make my family sick. I want to thank you and your family (especially your lovely mother) for being such a great positive influence on all of us! You both remind me of in the Bible where it says for the older women to teach us younger women. I wish I would have had that example when I was growing up! I really appreciate all that you're doing to teach us! As I see your paper towels, I'm especially thankful for a previous video where you showed us how to make rags. It's saved us some money already because my teenager, no matter how hard I stress the issue, would be exceptionally lavish with his paper towel usage, and I'd be left with an empty roll just about every other day. I found a trick though; if I don't replace it, nobody is willing to dig them out, so now I can keep just a couple on hand for an as-needed basis, but use rags and cloths for everyday. I also love the video where your mom shows us the right way to wash dishes. I went and got a plastic dish pan right away, and it truly does save a LOT of soap. 😊 THANK YOU!!! Please show us more practical everyday homemaking tips like these! Blessings and greetings from Chicagoland. 👋
I watched a video the other day and the man used equal parts of Jiffy corn muffin mix and baking soda. He said it's like and Alka Seltzer. Their belly starts to bloat and they go back to their nest and die.

Oh...that Cream of Wheat reminds me to pick up some more. It has been hard to find here this past couple of years. Even the store brands. Thanks for the reminder.
I live in Hawaii where earthquakes of 2-4 magnitude happen frequently and sometimes we get hit with hit with 7-8 mothers that are able to rock homes off its foundations. Ask me how I know. So my storage pantry shelves should actually be strapped to the wall. I haven’t done that yet but to be safe until then I am very careful to put heavy items like cases of canned food on the lower shelves. The middle shelves are where cans of coffee and canisters of oatmeal are and the top shelf has light things like powdered milk, baking mixes and dehydrated potato things. If I had glass jars they would be close to the floor just in case the shelf went kaboom. Hopefully less to clean up. Just something for some of your followers to think about. Thanks for all you do Tarra and gang. Appreciate your videos.
Top seven is a lot less complicated, and much can be done with the basics. Beans, dry peas, lentils. Rice Pasta & sauce Rolled oats Milk powder, or canned condensed milk Flour & yeast Oil, or fat Sugar, or honey Salt & pepper Condiments, and vegetables 😳 Ok, about twice 7. Now we all need to be creative, and nourish the eyes and soul, as well as the physical hunger for nourishment.
Wow, I have stuff but not this much we are a family of 4 too but older Children im thinking I need to do more... .I do can so I don't buy vegetables or canned fruits, I though I had I had alot of Sugar 25 pounds but you guys take the cake 😀 WOW what a nice set up can't wait until Wednesday's show..

Seeing it helps to visualize exactly how much is needed for a years supply. Thanks.

I'm sooo jealous of that shelving. It is beautifully organized.

Thanks Tawra for showing us your long term food supply. Enjoyed this video!
Water is THE MOST IMPORTANT. At a minimum it takes 1 gallon per day per person. We can not live past 3 days without water.
Could you discuss on your next show alternative uses for expired pantry items (baking powder, flour, etc)
Keep up doing what you think we need to learn from your knowledge and experience you have for us. I strongly support your work !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is it OK to put instant oatmeal on packets in dollars tore storage bins with twist on lids
@@RavenWolfDrum69 should be ok, I am not familiar with what you ate referring too though. Any tight seal.
QUESTION: Can you do videos of recipes using standard stockpile foods?🤗
Seriously? 🤡
Why don’t you repackage your oats, flour and pasta for longer term shelf life? Vac sealing or package in Mylar with O2 absorbers.
I was worried about flour and sugar
Mice will have a field day in your pantry.
Where to buy O2 absorbers? Tractor supply doesn't have them. Neither does Walmart

You probably have the most real-life prepper pantry that I've seen. Thank you for sharing! You gave me some good ideas.
More like real life Paranoia that I've seen
They could use it, just hammer the chunks out til its granular again

#10 can suggestions… honey powder, peanut butter powder, shortening powder. They are longterm preps I include and have several of each. Off the shelf is great but powdered is a great back up for extended longterm and is a hedge to the predicted food shortages and famine.

I get the buckets from a local hot dog stand!!
You can cold soak ramen (and other items like small cous cous) to save on fuel if you are in an emergency situation.
Yes Beck, they both work just like overnight Oats, at anytime of the Day.👍
Google is ramen healthy? The answer will surprise you.

How do you keep your boxed items from going stale or away from rodents? I've learned the hard way. I now vacuum seal and store in food grade buckets with gamma lids.
I put my grains, sugar, flour, cereal, pasta, etc in mason jars. Had sugar ants in my RV pantry with this heat down south. That fixed the issue.
Yup. Best way.😉👍
Or weevils. Maybe her storage room is at 40° ? That's a lot of food to lose if weavils or mice get started. It'd never make it in Arizona.

Tawra, you should separate your canned pineapple right away and put those cans in a plastic tub or something. Many preppers have said their canned pineapple has leaked (the acid from the citrus eats through the can relatively quickly), and they have contaminated the food next to them. Just a suggestion.

“Glen and Friends Cooking” and

Mrs Ben here, I just organized my storage supply Saturday! We're getting there. Hey why not store water in the nice new canning jars. For washing...
You're talking expensive storage for spicey mixes. Basics is much cheaper.

Here's an easy way to cook pasta. Boil water, put pasta in water, bring back to boil, stir, cover and let sit 15 minutes. Comes out perfect every time! So my storage pantry shelves should actually be strapped to the wall.
