As a 32 veteran police officer, that dispatcher is the worst I have ever heard. He should have had a car rolling once she told them "he slammed the door in my face," that's a hint, we call it a clue. That was a priority call. Get the first unit and fire department enroute. You can't over do a call like that...

@Goosecheeks LITERALLY! But after hearing all the family was weirdos like that I can imagine him feeling so comfortable with sharing about those "hobbies" 🤢
The 911 operator made me furious. Saying she smelled gas and that he locked her out during a supervised visit should be alarming enough to warrant emergency services.

Am I the only one who thought she was making ZERO sense? I was frustrated *on behalf* of the 911 operator, tbh, because he was asking simple questions that she couldn't clearly answer!
The social worker tells the 911 operator that she can hear a child cry and smells gas. So much gas that she feels unsafe being near the building and he doesn't think its an emergency. I honestly think he stopped listening until he heard the address. It's all he cared about getting and he wasn't listening to anything she was telling him while she looked for it.
So true He was too busy belittling her almost! And it blows my mind like 2011 and they couldn’t use some tracker to figure out where she was!? Insane so sad 😢
Young children being locked inside of a house that smells strongly of gasoline with a father who is a suspect in a murder case is apparently not a top-priority call? What does that dispatcher classify as top-priority, then?
The social worker that called 911 even said she wanted to back out of the driveway because she can smell gas. That jerk on the other end of the phone asked her if Josh was blocking her in. The 911 dispatcher did not take her call seriously, and I truly hope he was let go immediately. Anytime children are involved it is serious. Shame on the 911 dispatcher .
She was so clear at communicating her boundaries to that disgusting old man and he still had the nerve to act like she came onto him. Absolutely repulsive.
She allowed the father to touch her body.. she allowed him to rub her feet to rub her legs to go up her shirt and rub her arms.. I don’t think she was very clear with the boundaries. His hands touching her body should’ve been a boundary, but for some odd reason it was not. So I’m not sure how clear she was with any boundaries.
To those of you saying she let him massage her etc. You should keep in mind she was raised Mormon, sheltered and to believe your elders, especially male are to be held high and no disobedience etc... the fact that she told him what she did about how she's his daughter in law etc... was probably borderline stand offish in their eyes. She most likely didn't let him to the things as he described, that was his imagined dream scenarios, over fantasizing harmless interactions. Not to mention she lived in this man's home and was no doubt pretty much left to his ( their) mercy, unsure what to do. She was quite clearly a victim and insinuating she encouraged him or acted badly is pretty disgusting, I hope you all don't have daughters... or sons.
@@WingsOfAzazel I do have a daughter… And I raised her to never be at the mercy of anyone else.. especially to the point where you have to let them touch you just because you’re at their mercy. The 911 call from the supervisor is so aggravating. This dispatcher needs fired. He wasnt listening at all, rude and clearly doesnt know how to do his job.
How come Josh could so easily get a restraining order against a senior citizen with no proof of wrongdoing but women can't get a restraining order against their abusive boyfriends or husbands to literally save their lives. What the actual fuck.

Wow, that is so disheartening. We are conditioned into thinking that if you can get through to emergency dispatch the clever operator will read between the lines and send help. It isn't a sure thing and we should all remember that.
@lccsd2392 I agree to disagree, slamming the door, kids crying, smelling gas those combined should have pushed that call onto an imminent danger call and police should have been dispatched immediately. We as a society have to do better to protect children. This could have possibly been avoided had they acted fast. I mean firefighters got there in 3 minutes the cops could have gotten there and possibly gotten those boys out. People need to be held responsible when they make mistakes he even is quoted as saying he wished he would have made it a priority call if you can't see that you my friend are LITERALLY the only one who is thinking that way

The Powells are monsters. Josh saying he couldnt "live without his boys" meant he couldnt live without being able to abuse and groom them to his cruel heart's content.
The 911 operator was infuriating. If a parent is court ordered to have supervised visits ... yet he slams the door in the face of the supervisor, how is that not life threatening? It doesn't matter if he threatened them before. Supervised visits are serious business! That means, as a parent, he can't be trusted to be alone with his kids. It doesn't matter why! I sincerely hope the 911 dispatcher was fired or reprimanded. As soon as he was informed that a father who is only allowed supervised visits, locked the agent out of the home…officers should’ve been sent immediately. The dispatcher absolutely failed those babies. I understand they get calls daily that are non life threatening but when children are involved, you act and you act quickly!! This is heartbreaking.
Sadly, he was not fired. He received a "Letter of Reprimand," and that was it. His statement after the fact was something along the lines of, "I wish I had known who Josh Powell was." It tells me the dispatcher does NOT get it. It doesn't matter who Josh Powell was because you had a LCSW on a supervised visit telling you the parent took the children inside, slammed the door, and she can smell gas. What's so complicated about that? Nothing.
Josh was such a bum. He didnt provide, he didnt protect and he didnt love and still, she was expected to be a "traditionally submissive" wife?! What a sadistic joke. 💔💔💔 Edit: that poor social worker, these poor children, poor Susan.
Absolutely..... it has now doubt ruined her life, these monsters cause such an enormous ripple effect of trauma, heartbreak, life changing emotional turmoil!!! RIP to those beautiful boys and their mama!! 💔💔💔💔
It would not have made a difference. I hope she understands that. She'd be dead, too. He had this planned and nothing was stopping him. If only they'd had the visit in an open, public space, maybe then? Unknown variables... He was a selfish, deranged, pos.
She would've been killed if she had gotten inside. He was determined to kill his sons and himself. She was saved by the few seconds she was behind the kids. The ones at fault are the father in law for being a sick fuck that raised a psycho, the stupid judge that allowed visitation, and the 911 operator that didn't take her call seriously. Idk why tf they'd send a woman alone to do that knowing the possible pending case. There should've been a police officer with her or visits at the police station.
This was the WORST dispatcher EVER. The most infuriating phone call I have ever heard. How dare he? “I need you TO CALM DOWN and listen to my questions” ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! You dive so deep in information and you cover stories so well. Thank you for all you do!
💯 % felt all of this it was horrible how rude he was to this poor lady! If he'd had cops come lights in sirens those poor children would probably still be alive.
She told the dispatcher she smelled gas. She heard the kids crying. He did nothing! Completely ignored the gas comment. That's ridiculous. You think that's not an emergency dude? Come on! Unbelievable.
Yeah that's way out of line it was like he was picking stupid questions out of thin air just so he wouldn't have to help her. No reason whatsoever is the license number important ever. What if she took a bus? That's how stupid that (?) was.
Hey ladies, if your husband or boyfriend ever decides to buy a chop saw for no real reason. Run for the hills. Run fast. Unless he is a genuine woodworker. Get out of there.
And then had the nerve to gaslight her about calling like she was being dramatic or a nuisance or something 🤬 I see a few comments blaming the social worker, but the key words of children, having the father close the door in her face, and the smell of gasoline alone should be enough to send help ASAP!
Family court makes these mistakes all the time and no one holds them accountable. The boys would have still been alive if family court prioritized the children’s safety above parental rights and wants.

As a 32 veteran police officer, that dispatcher is the worst I have ever heard.
He should have had a car rolling once she told them "he slammed the door in my face," that's a hint, we call it a clue. That was a priority call. Get the first unit and fire department enroute. You can't over do a call like that...
Do you think the response, even the fastest, would have been enough to stop what was happening? I would have been concerned for first responders
I've seen this too many times. It should be some serious community service, and some jail time, so that they are held accountable. They know it's not so they don't care.
Thank you for your service ❤

Am I the only one who thought she was making ZERO sense? I was frustrated *on behalf* of the 911 operator, tbh, because he was asking simple questions that she couldn't clearly answer!
The social worker tells the 911 operator that she can hear a child cry and smells gas. So much gas that she feels unsafe being near the building and he doesn't think its an emergency. I honestly think he stopped listening until he heard the address. It's all he cared about getting and he wasn't listening to anything she was telling him while she looked for it.
Hope 911 operator got FIRED!!!!

I hope the 911 dispatcher lies awake at night feeling horrible about how they handled this.
First time I heard of a social worker fighting for the kids and the dispatcher was the one who failed these little boys.
Young children being locked inside of a house that smells strongly of gasoline with a father who is a suspect in a murder case is apparently not a top-priority call? What does that dispatcher classify as top-priority, then?
Insanity...maddening!
Top priority was, what colour is Toyota Prius and what clothes wearing father of two locked boys... 😮🤦🏻 He should be in jail. 🤦🏻😡
I am very upset with the dispatcher for wasting time and not concern about the Kids locked
To me he was just ignorant I don’t understand how he was even working as a dispatcher for 911 omg I hope he doesn’t work there anymore more !
Yeah he was purposely dense. Making the social worker explain multiple times.
Its weird for her to let her father in law massage and touch her
Have you seen stuff w his daughter? She's the same way towards poor Susan
I heard "Utah" and "belonged to the church" (LDS) in the first 30 seconds and knew it would be a crazy story.
Yes, exactely, why are all the mormon folks crazy like that?
"Somebody is probably dying in that house. I'm going to debate this lady about her supervised visit status as the supervisor for ten minutes." Top-notch work, bud.
I have been WAITING for you to cover this case for the longest time. Sadly Susan's remains have not been found and her family will never get closure as the people responsible are now all dead. And those poor boys... oh it breaks my heart.
@Kwildcat13, never read the comments first if you don't like spoilers
If children weren't forced to see a family member they do not want to, then these children would still be alive.
I have to leave one more comment - you did an incredible job on this. Thank you for bringing it the respect and care it so deserves.
Someone should look into that judge who thinks those pics of the little girls weren’t explicit. Look into his hard drive.
Exactly!!!! 🤮
THEY RARELY DO!!!
The 911 call with CPS is MADDENING. The dispatcher is not taking this seriously enough at ALLLLLL. And hes freaking DUMB.
She said Josh Powell about 17 times and I'm pretty sure he was moving her when he asked for the name again.
He showed more concern about the broken window than his missing wife 😮
I can’t handle this 911 dispatcher! The social worker was totally clear about the situation from the second she called. The call is so upsetting. Just get the damn cops there. The worst dispatcher I’ve heard. It’s like he doesn’t even listen to her at all.
That dispatcher was so INNEPT AND ANNOYING! I LITERALLY SCREAMED, "POWELL!!!" at my phone!
LOL so did I. SO freaking frustrating to hear.
I’ve read about this case so many times bc it’s so unbelievably tragic. Not only was her husband a family annihilator but her father in law was a massive creep. I feel so bad for her and the boys.
What a terrible life she must have had!!!@
And her poor parents and other extended family, and the social worker….breaks my heart. 😢
same. This case hit me every time.
The 911 dispatcher questioning her is beyond annoying !!
Fell out of true crime documentaries a few years back because of how nonchalant a lot of show runners are but have been slowly getting back into the UA-cam crime community. Found your channel through danielle kirstys channel after watching all her videos. I can't wait to watch all your videos as well. Love your sensitivity, research and respect you bring all these victims. Thank you ❤
That 911 operator always gets me. He’s insufferable. The social worker was clear as day.
Is it me or was anyone else ready to yell at the 911 dispatcher when the foster supervisor tried getting help???
I HATE when these dispatchers treat this as some silly call "I'm just waiting for you to tell me where you are." WTF is that sh*t, the kids are locked inside and she smells gas... LIKE WTF DISPATCHER THIS IS A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION!!!!!
Same. Omg it was agonizing to listen to
@@versaceboi4762I get his being a bit exasperated that she didn’t even know where she was. Although I understand she was completely unprepared for anything like this to happen and had to go back to her car for the paperwork. Everything after that though was completely unforgivable, he had basically written her off already and was refusing to listen to her.
Infuriating 😡😡😡
Like yes get that info but send the cops as soon as you have the address. I was ready to scream at him. Like who cares about the hair colour?! 911 means emergency good Lord! 😳
That 911 dispatcher should be out of a job and in jail for life.
absolutely agree 100%
Yup!!
I hope that dispatcher reads every single comment about him......his insistence on STUPID questions cost lives. ...
I can't imagine being SA or something and this guy asking stupid idiot questions....
I just heard the 911 call for the first time and I'm so pissed off. This is horrendous. Please tell me this fool was at the very least fired but definitely should've been charged. She said the father's names over and over again and she was not listened to. Who cares about the color or make of the car she is driving?
