Hey Mile Higher Team! Just a small note. On the thumbnail of this video, you used an image from the University of IL campus. This is a different school and in a different town than IL state university, which is where Jelani attended. Just nit picking but didn’t want people to think Jelani was in Champaign-Urbana when he went missing as that might confuse any potential witnesses. Thanks!

I can totally understand why Jelani would call his mother at the end of each day just to hear her voice. She has such a beautiful, calming, and comforting voice.
What a truly beautiful person she is. Inside and out. It radiates out of her. It’s no wonder her children are so close and so protective of her.

Carmen, last year I watched Kendall’s video about Jelani. Of course none of the stories Kendall covers are easy to listen to, but I was particularly moved by Jelani’s story specifically. Part of what stood out to me was how beautifully you spoke about your boy and how active you’ve been in seeking justice for him. Because of your efforts, I immediately remembered Jelani’s story when I saw that Mile Higher had posted a new video today. Your work has been so effective and you are honoring your son’s legacy while also helping other people get a sense of the incredible young man he was. While it’s just so unfair that none of us will have the privilege of meeting him ourselves, I know I’m not alone in feeling like through your use of your voice, I’ve been able to get to know Jelani.
Thank you for sharing your son with the world. Thank you for allowing us a glimpse into his gorgeous, vibrant life that should have been four times longer than it was. I am so, so sorry for your profound loss and I so desperately wish that you and your family didn’t have to endure this pain. You are so correct in saying that Jelani loves you-not past tense, but present and future. He loves you with all his being and he will love you forever, from now until the day you two meet again and beyond that. This stranger is sending all of the love and strength I can muster to you and your beautiful family. I think you are an absolutely remarkable woman and you are the best mom in the world.

He loves me and I love him, I can't think of a time when I haven't been there for him until this happened and I'm angry because I wish I had of been there. But God allows everything to happen for a reason, I don't know the reason as of yet but Jelani has a purpose, I miss my baby so much.

1:48:24 Just to reinforce what Carmen said - during COVID at the Beyond/Hello dispensary (when masks were still required for entry), all customers were required to briefly pull down their mask and look at the security camera. This was a security measure to verify that their identity matched their photo ID given while at the store.

I have a friend that went missing from Missouri in 2005. Its so sad how law enforcement blows off the family. She was experiencing some mental health issues at the time but she didn't leave her kids. The only person that supposedly seen her was her ex husbands cousin. She was a respiratory therapist and hasn't used her license since. The LE in our small town threatened her mom w harassment when she kept "bothering" them about looking into her disappearance. Her mom was in Flordia and couldnt relocate here to see they did their job. So sad, I hope you get closure.

To be honest, I always tried so hard not to watch anything about this case, because the initial stories when he was found and the story the police spun, boils my blood and breaks my heart so much. I just took the courage to watch this and i still feel that strong feeling of frustration about it😢😢😢 What a beautiful soul cut off from this world. Beautiful family in and out, it is a real tragedy.

Wonderful interview and both Carmen and Seve are so eloquent. You seem to be wonderful people and your family sound so close and loving. Carmen, you have such a lovely voice, so soothing and melodious. I remember Kendal talking about Jelani before and I'm disgusted at the treatment you've received. I truly wish you all the best and pray for justice for Jelani

Thankyou for not just leaving people with just a name Jelani. You put a person behind that name and it resonates that much further. Jelani isn't just another statistic he was a son a brother a friend he lived he made impacts in peoples lives and if the police could see that he's not just another name maybe they would have done their jobs correctly. So many things were missed in this case it's infuriating.

Kendall, Josh, and Mile Higher crew… thank you for giving victims’ families the space to share their story. Thank you for caring so much about these wonderful people and the lives that were taken too soon. I am usually a silent viewer, but this episode touched me. You gave them the space to speak freely and factually, which is so so important. Carmen and Seve, thank you for coming to speak about Jelani. Your family is so incredibly strong and I’m so sorry your family has to even go through this. It’s clear Jelani was such a positive light and would have gone far. Your family has never stopped fighting, which is incredibly inspiring.

I hear it in your voice and saw it on your faces…it moves me the way you all love each other and I wish so badly we could turn back time to make sure this never happened. I am sending all of my love to you guys and promise to do everything I can to help, for Jelani and your whole family. I could not imagine what they are going through and I hope and pray to God that they can get answers as to what happened to their loved one. I am sending all of my positive thoughts and deepest condolences their way and will also be reaching out to law enforcement to let them know how poorly they have done and this family NEEDS answers. I don’t think I have ever left a comment and I watch it all - Kendall, Lights Out, The Sesh, etc - and have been a loyal fan for years. I am also a true crime junkie (obviously), but I hate to watch unsolved cases. However, I don’t think I have ever been so moved to tears and filled with empathy for a family as I am with this family. As a mother, the bond she describes with Jelani reminds me of my relationship with my son. I can’t even begin to fathom how I could even begin to breathe if I were in her shoes. She is so genuine, strong, compassionate, and has so much grace during a time when most people would just fall apart. I am going to share this on my socials and sign the petition. I also plan to purchase merch and donate to the Jelani Day Foundation. Please keep us posted on any developments. My prayers and love go out to the family. Kendall & Josh, you should pitch this to Netflix and Hulu. It was amazingly done. Now I think I’ll go squeeze my kiddos and remind them they are my entire world. ❤

Out of all the tragedies that you have covered, Jelani’s has been one of the saddest I think. Not only was he lost from his family and friends who loved him deeply, but a true loss to the world. All of us lost someone who really was determined to make the world a better place. It’s hard not to think of all of the kids who won’t get to see the Dr. They needed.

First, thank you Kendall and Josh for allowing Jelani's mother and brother give us so much insight and background about Jelani and his case, and giving them a platform to get more coverage on this devastating case. Jelani didn't deserve this and it is obvious there is so much foul play at hand. We will get justice, I don't care what I have to do to help, but I will do my part!!
