Law enforcement is a freakishly expensive tool, the police and the police alone tend to eat up virtually all of the small budgets for municipalities.... suing police stations though, the police aren't penalized at all, in any way, not even in the slightest, for losing.
Police are one of the really dysfunctional aspects of how we live... massively overfunded, massively overpaid, treated like mongoloid children in terms of how we can't hold them responsible for anything including their own misbehavior... outright evil being routinely tolerated, and excused. Somehow the rest of the world doesn't need to do this for their cops, but we have to. Our military doesn't need $100K salaries and to be freed from all accountability of their actions, but cops do. We treat them like idiot children, so they act like them.

I'm 47 minutes into this story, and as soon as John was introduced, I thought that Marvin used him to lure Rachel onto this "date". Marvin wanted Rachel to bring her daughter for the purpose of blackmail, but also to keep his promise to her. He told her he would harm her and her baby if she told. This guy was obviously a town terror. The police had to have known of him before the incident with Rachel. They just let him move around criminally with impunity. What 43 year old wants to hang out with 20 somethings that are not his family????

I did tell my husband and family, who obviously believed me but I didn’t want to chance a judge not and the aftermath of my assailant not being given any consequence after being charged. Too much was at stake, I feared for my children as well. I was cleaning my daughter’s room when I heard you say “I will believe you” and immediately burst in to tears. He later admitted it and said he wanted to do it again (he admitted it to another demale) and I took these messages to the detective and she dropped my case because I called her out for not trying to do anything in my messages to the girl. She said “I don’t appreciate the way you’re talking about me in these messages” and then told me she wasn’t going to investigate anymore.

I was molested as a child by our swim coach who groomed our entire family in order to get to me by calling my parents mom and dad. He was also my brothers diving coach so became my brothers idol. We were raised very sheltered in the 70’s so when this started happening I knew my parents couldn’t handle the ugly truth. So when I finally decided to open up 40 years later no one took it well. Now all I have is my husband and no family I grew up with. And I was not blessed with children. So the stigma of the rape or molestation really hasn’t changed.

Same! And it pretty much saved me 7 years ago. It's kind of a long story but basically I had just started dating one of those men who think it's cool to hit women. Well, he picked the wrong b*tch to screw with. He hit me in the face and I hit him back. We ended up on the floor in his condo and he ended up on top of me with his hand on my throat. Thankfully I was able to reach my 🔫 and I shot him in the ass. Seriously. 😳😆 Long story short, charges against me were dropped because they obviously saw that I fired in self-defense. The asshole ended up being here illegally. (Illegal immigrant from Ukraine.) The FBI got involved because apparently he was operating some kind of money laundering scheme. He ultimately was deported. At first I used to worry a little that he might come after me. My friend/family convinced me that he probably wouldn't. Especially with him knowing that I carry, etc.

to be honest im afraid of the police. after all that has gone on in the past years with police violence im hesitant with the police. I have gone to the police for help, to get a restraining order against my abusive ex. they ignored me and said they couldn't do anything when I had two black eyes and a fat lip. FINALLY after my ex broke into my apartment and beat me to a pulp did the judge grant a 5 year restraining order. he broke the order twice and was held in contempt of court. due to his violent behavior I had no other choice but to leave the state so he couldn't find me. luckily im married now to a wonderful man that would never lay a hand on me and understands what has happened to me. I won't lie I still look over my shoulder wherever I go. thanks for such a great deep dive Annie. it really hits home but this topic needs to be discussed. its to common now a days!

Because Rachel willingly took the baby along on "the date," that would indicate that it had already been discussed and agreed to. From that we can assume that having the baby there was part of a premeditated plan. What I believe is that he purposely wanted baby Shannon with them, to use against Rachel, like for forcing her to write what he wanted. A living baby would then, after serving the purpose, would be another obstacle, and we know what happens to obstacles.

Lawyers don't have a choice as to whether a client takes the stand or not. They can advise them, but every defendant has the Constitutional right to testify on their own behalf, and an attorney cannot deprive them of that right. Some attorneys will threaten to withdraw as attorney of record for the client if they insist upon testifying against their attorney's advice, but judges won't allow that mid trial, and the attorney cannot tell a judge why they think it's a bad idea for their client to testify. The only exception to this is if an attorney knows that a client is guilty, and the client insists upon getting on the stand and lying about their guilt. In that circumstance, the attorney is ethically obligated to ask for a hearing away from the jury, and tell the judge that they cannot allow their client to testify or the attorney would be guilty of subordination of perjury. The judge can't ask what the attorney knows or how they know it. And the attorney cannot fo into detail or divulge any privileged infirmation. But if an attorney knows a client is guilty and allows them to testify without informing the court, they will be guilty of subornation of perjury and if caught, will absolutely lose their law license as a result. But either way, if a client insists upon testifying on their own behalf, an attorney cannot keep them from doing so, absent a recorded instance of the attorney informing the court that they have personal, firsthand information that if the client were to be put on the stand, he would have to commit perjury to answer certain questions (unless the client planned to confess on the stand lol). Even then, the client would still be able to testify. The attorney just wouldn't be able to ask questions the client would lie in order to respond to, and the attorney would still have to inform the court because they could not knowingly allow the client to lie in response to the prosecution's questions, either. But attorneys cannot ever knowingly put someone on the stand if they have told the attorney they're guilty. That's why the first thing a defense attorney ALWAYS tells a client is: "Do not tell me if you're guilty." That really applies more in major felony cases, but they say the same thing with lesser charges, as well. Despite all of this, though, in order to take away a defendant's right to testify, there must exist some type of major issue, such as in the Darrell Brooks case, where he outright refused to answer the judge's questions and would not engage in a colloquy with the court, so the judge could not get his agreement that he would follow the rules and not lie on the stand. That almost never happens. In fact, that's the one and only time I've ever seen someone's right to testify taken from them. I don't believe he was ever planning to testify. I think he did that in a calculated effort to create an issue on appeal, and to avoid having to admit he was too scared to be cross examined by the prosecution team, but I don't believe it will work in his favor. And we all knew exactly why he didn't want to testify.

Trauma from SA, to anyone but someone that young & innocent is one thing. We know that two things affects how trauma affects someone. 1. The trauma itself 2. The things that happen after (family, cops, friends, people believing, do they tell no one, etc) the fact that it happened, she was traumatized by the threats & the cops not only did nothing but sided with HIM it’s NO surprise it led to her doing things to numb the immense pain. Once you start using hard drugs, even once he’s held accountable that’s not a door you can close. I hate that cops do this SOOO often even now. Heartbreaking!
