      A few years back a friend sent me a link to Work Shit Out which I got at 4am. I was so blown away just listening on the tablet. This was the stuff.. I ran into the music room and put it on the big system. I had been in a funk believing there was nothing of any value or quality in contemporary music. You shattered that illusion with music that was so invigorating , tight, skillful and downright fun. Great to see you at Rick's place.

      Musicians are the WORST audience to have though, they never lose themselves in the music like a "normal" fan would/does! They just stare at the band playing, working out their techniques, analysing the styles and seeing/hearing if there's anything they can use themselves! Then their partner nudges/pokes them in the ribs..and says...."Song's finished!?!" Replied by "oh yeah! Sorry!" 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙈🤣🤣🤣

    • @dondouglas
      @dondouglas 9 місяців тому +27

      Lyle Mays ended up removed from the music scene, disillusioned. He was never recognized in life for the value of what he did, personally I think he is one of the best pianists after Bill Evans.
      Not only in his quality as a pianist but in the innovativeness of his sounds. Lyle was also a great person, a great gourmet and coach of his city's children's soccer team. Speaking of musicians, Milton Nascimento told me what a wonderful person he was. I miss his presence every day.

    • @goczangabor24
      @goczangabor24 6 місяців тому +2

      maybe controversial, but i think they're better off not being tiktok stars. i mean... they have their way more invested and loyal audience, they pack the places they perform at, make probably way above average living by doing what they love and most importantly they are by no means influenced by external feedback. i guess, if they would go superfamous worldwide, not on purpose, but because of the ever-rising expectations and the statistics, they would care a lot more about what the general public thinks (still saying, it's just human nature). now instead of the bigger half of the world's population, they attract a very targeted crowd, which leaves room for way more artistic freedom. and it's just an added plus that they probably don't have to separate themselves entirely from the outside world like the most known celebrities do, i mean gazillions of dollars and all, but if you can't go out to the streets without being ambushed by fans it's like living in a jail cell.

Discovered him around the mid 2000s and had a similar sound to Dirty Loops, less on the jazz fusion but heavy on the soul/r&b, gospel, and rock, but production style was very similar. Two things: Social media is obviously the modern way for artists to promote their work but the artists talked about, Jacob, Vulf, Snarky, Corey and DL are the most talented musicians in the world today who also have the visual production talent as well. Another thing they all have in common which I believe is natural because of their talents is widespread collaboration.
    And please let me tell you a quick DL story; We purchased their M&G package really only to get early admission because there’s no way we weren’t getting to the rail for their show. I am not a musician, I can only play the volume knob on my stereo but these three men were so gracious. They were actually standing in front of the stage waiting to greet our group as we entered the venue. They made a point to shake hands and greet everybody individually. They invited the group on stage to see and talk about all the gear. They were so humble and so welcoming. As people they left such a positive impression on me.
    As for the shows, I’ve seen all of the modern musicians mentioned and DL certainty fits in this elite group of musicians. I wish they played more shows in the Northeast on this tour. We did two shows and I tried and tried to get to more but timing and last minute expensive flights just couldn’t work for me. I hope they come back this way sooner than later!!
    We saw JC last night and we’ll also see him in NYC Friday night. I didn’t think it was possible for JC to perform better than the last tour but he has raised the bar again!! Or as we all know, musically He is “the bar”. Stunning performance on many levels.

    Growing up with music and actually allowing your children to study and then pursue a career in music - it's unheard of these days.
    But it did make some phenomenal bands.

    Dirty Loops might be easily the best trio on the planet. Beyond their superb musicianship, this guys knows each other from forever. That kind of complicity when they communicate easily without talking while they play.

    I've loved this band since first contact, and I know a LOT of drummers here in Brazil who really never got the approach to tuning their kit, but I did, so really surprised to hear that the problem is not so local. If ever around I would be honored to tweak your DW, the only kit I would trade for mine.
    Best of luck to the band and congrats on the channel.

    This band brought me out of a terrible funk a few years back. I heard 'Follow the Light' and Dirty Loops changed my life. I went through their entire catalogue and was blown away by the quality of their music. I wish they would come to Australia. I'd love to see them live. That would be amazing.

    I saw these guys at Irving Plaza a couple weeks ago. I bought tickets after seeing maybe three of their videos on YT and being blown away-- their cover of 'Thriller' with Corey Wong locked it down. They put on a hell of a show-- three massively talented guys. TIt will be nice to remember having seen them in one of my favorite venues when I can't afford to see them at MSG in a few years.

    It never ceases to amaze me how Jeff Porcaro is sighted as a reference of inspiration to fusion drummers. Jeff was rarely considered a fusion player and never liked to solo but his inner clock and feel for what a song needed was the reason he stayed so busy. This and future generations are so blessed that his work still inspires to this day.
