How to Replace Camshaft Position Sensors on a Nissan 350z (Infiniti G35) | Install

- We install new camshaft position sensors in my 2005 Nissan 350z after diagnosing the symptoms like my check engine light, P0340 code, and stumbling engine! This process works on any VQ35DE motor (including the Infiniti G35) that has 2 sensors, and is similar in process to other vehicles. Doing this DIY along with other preventative maintenance can help your car drive smoother, shift better, and even restore lost horsepower!
Here is the link to the camshaft sensors used in this video + the the crankshaft position sensor, and the other parts on my 350Z :)

This no joke up'd my performance I really cant believe it.
My bank one needs to be replaced. 🙄🙄🙄 Your video has perfect timing
let us know how it feels when its done!
@@ChrysGaines it just arrived yesterday. What the wot?
Just a FYI camshaft position sensor code for the passenger side is p0340..the code you displayed p0430 is for a catalytic converter
Hey thanks this helped a lot
Good hype with the short
I love you so much for this video
by any chance did you do a ecu reset or idle relearn?
Im glad this fixed your issue, and no hate meant but you skipped to like step 7 for this DTC. The Factory Service Manual is available for free from NICO and it has troubleshooting steps for each specific DTC in the EC section. Most of them are simple tests that cost nothing and help you find and confirm the actual issue instead of firing up the parts cannon and hoping you fixed it.
i’ll take a look! i guess i have a different view of the “parts cannon” thing, but that may be because i’ve mostly dealt with broken parts that are visually or obviously diagnosable. i also just enjoy spending money on and replacing old parts on my high mileage cars 😂anything electrical or sensor related is pretty new to me.
@@ChrysGaines No problem spending money on something you love! You certainly aren't hurting anything by replacing parts - except that money could go into performance parts instead of maintenence 😁
Hey Chris! Great vids man. Quick question, my G was acting completely normal before I let it sit for a few days. Started her up and she had a rough start and idle for a few minutes before acting normal again. New plugs, coil packs, clean air filter, fresh oil and other maintenance done months prior. Any ideas?
obvious question but have you done the sensors too?
@@ChrysGaines haven’t done the sensors yet. The car doesn’t give me any issues if I drive it regularly, only did it when I let it sit for a few days.
Thanks
Does MK2 GTI has variable timing cause I think It used to drive smoother lately and maybe that's why
not familiar with that platform unfortunately
What is that obd scanner you used?
hey Chris, thank you for the amazing videos. It's happening a lot. I wanted to ask you about my car while I was driving on the highway. The TCS and slip lights were turned on and I the car wouldn't take any gas so I had to stop on the side of the road turn it off and turn it on again and everything went back to normal. What could it possibly be?
I have same problem . Z keeps losing loser power when the lights come on . Did you ever get it fixed or solve the problem ?
@@jasbeats544I was on an old forum after it happened to me as well and I read someone’s post that said after they replaced both camshaft position sensors and crankshaft position sensor the issue was gone. I just ordered them all, hoping it fixes it 👏
@@chris5873 Any update? Did they fixed it?
Hey there question ? Are the sensors suppose to have oil when you take it out ?
Yeah oil is normal
so my connecter is still loose when i try to connect the new one. is that what what you meant by using a screw driving to connect it? because it does connect but if u were to pull without pressing anything it would come off
Having the same issue literally pulled out the angled sensor out of my passenger side😵💫
@@danthonydungee3405 my mechanic just cut off the old connecter and just connected or spliced the wires to a new one and it works now. i’d try that. it fixed the issue
Does anyone know if the p0021 code is for sure just the cam sensors? I just bought a Z and got this code for bank 2 and the scan tool said the intake cam is pulling timing.
Camshaft position sensor codes are P0340 and p0345. Your problem is not this video.
Yo Chrys, you better delete the part after 11:14 in the UA-cam editor because its just blank
good looks, not sure why that got left on there!
All u have to do to lock them in place is press down on them really really hard. And snap there it is
I replaced my sensor but im still getting the code you know ware the fuse for the camshaft sensor is located?
did u fix this?
There is more power, the computer is no longer in limp mode and you have variable cam timing again 🙂
Can a bad camshaft position sensor leak oil?
Yes
my sensors went out and my 350z 04 was on 50k miles
I can’t get this clip off for shit, i’ve been at it for an hour, pushing it in, it won’t come out
