Really liked the overall quality of the unit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . No, it's not a professional level drill press. I bought this product for one reason and one reason only: it adds value to a product I already have (a dremel tool).I was able to use this tool to secure my dremel. Dremel owners and users probably can sympathize that often holding your oddly shaped (and sometimes fragile) workpiece and the dremel at the same time can be cumbersome. This completely eliminates the need to hold the dremel, which is a huge overall improvement to control.I would consider this a must have for anyone who regularly uses a dremel.
Clean and simple. Very nice! The offset is a great idea! Though I may make mine circular. That way, instead of having just four sacrificial spots, there would be a dozen or more, depending on the wear of the sacrificial piece.
Nice build... I'll be making a slightly smaller version for my 8" bench-top Craftsman. The only change I'll do to your design is to make the fence to base t-track holes slots to allow the fence to be angled when needed. I think 1-2" slots will work nicely and allow the fence to sit at an angle (like how a router table fence works).
Nice design! Only thing I would do differently is to extend the T track in the front so you could slip in some homemade hold downs without having to take off the fence. Love the offset waste board idea! Gonna totally use that one!
Without accommodation for clamps in the T-track, there’s no reason to have the T-track extend to the front of the table: the fence will never be positioned there.
Best home made table I’ve seen so far. Intend to make one for my bench press. Absolutely loved the ‘offset insert’. Puzzled until you explained the rotational aspect. Just a totally brilliant tip!!!
Tip with the stop block. If you put a little chamfered edge on the bottom corner of it when there is saw dust and gear it’ll push into that chamfer not between the work piece and stop block
Great project, and I love the removable insert. I only think I'll use a chisel to square out the corners in the hole for my insert so I don't have to round off the corners every time I make a replacement.
Great vid! I have the exact same model, and that crank handle is such a pain. I liked your work around. I need to build something better than what I slapped together the first time. I’ll be rewatching this when the time comes. 🙌
I have the same drill press. I currently have a table on mine but not as nice as yours. I think I will make some changes to mine so it is like yours. The reason i watched your video was to see how you handled the problem with the crank on the back that lowers and raises the table. Great build. BTW I got rid of my Craftsman jig saw and bought a new Bosch. I couldn't believe the difference! I thought all jigsaws handled like the Craftsman and avoided using it if I could. I subscribed.
I made one for my Montgomery Ward electronic variable speed drill press some time in the 70`s. It is still on there. Differences are there were no T tracks. I used a 6” tall fence with 6” base, 4 right angle triangles to brace it, C clamps to place in position on each side. Crude but it works. I may upgrade.
I have been watching a lot of videoes on UA-cam about building a drill press table. What surprises me most is that almost all of them are built with keeping the fence square to the drill press table. This does add a lot of complexity in making the drill press table. I do not think that you need to do this. You only need to worry about the distance from the center of the drill bit to the edge of the fence. Take a look at my video "Build an easy drill press guide" and I would be interested in hearing your comments about my design. I have responded to a lot of other videos with this same idea and have not heard back from a single one yet. My design does not have a dust collection system
If using drill press for smaller items like making holes in small pieces of wood for tea light candle holders, would another fence on the front side be an option to hold the object still to keep it from moving?
Great video. I will be ordering the same press and will need to build a table as well. Thanks for the upload this will serve as a great reference! Well done.
That's exactly the table I'm getting ready to build. My fence will have dust collection, and I was not clear on how I was going to make the sacrificial insert on the table, so I'll think about your plan. Well explained; well demonstrated; well done.
Subscribed. Beautiful table. It makes work safer too. This project is great for many people. And I may add a table to my drill press. But really, instead, or in addition to, I want more of a multi-spindle, multi-tool CNC setup under a long set of CNC pedestal rails, like one long X axis, with a carriage that has a 4 motor Z axis, with a Y axis setting on top of that. With say 5 or 6 spindles, all permanently tooled up, or at least for a given job, with the assumption that you can do the job with different 6 tools. For the money that you can buy a tool changer, and the tool holders, you can probably buy a bunch of spindles, some of which may can be lower power, and be able to multiple "cars" on the long X axis, forming an assembly line that for about the same money, can run much faster than a single CNC with a tool changer.
I just followed your plan to build my drill press table and I'm really happy with it! I watched a bunch of videos with different plans for drill press tables, but I liked your overall design the best! Great job!
Thank you for this. I have a question. Can you do a video tour of your shop layout. It looks like a garage and I’m interested to see how you fit everything.
Awesome video up and down! No extra monologue, stories etc. Music / editing were great And the best part.. I cant believe how many things I learned from this one video! Looking forward to Future vids. Thanks for sharing man.
I'm replacing my drill press table following your design. I have a trim router mounted underneath on my old table and want to add it to your design. I'm going to have tracks go all the way to front end. Did you use a dado cartridge when you installed the blades? I'm wondering if I can get by without one. Thanks for showing us your design. Kudos.
Thats a great vid and the table is basic but very good. One thing I wondered is why the maple front edge didnt have cutouts for sliding the fence off, and for sliding adjustable hold-downs onto. But thats a simple mod. And I like your design. great stuff
Great video! I’m gonna build one. Good solution for the table crank clearance issue too. I might take one of my sacrificial inserts and glue it to the bottom of a cookie sheet or maybe a metal pie pan to use when drilling or countersinking metal stuff ( to contain shavings, cutting oil). Just a idea I had to save time removing the table for messy, nasty stuff. I subscribed!
Just made a drill press table based on your excellent video with 2 improvements. Have the T track the whole way, that way you can use hold down clamps inserted from the font and my offset insert was a sliding rectangle rather than a closed one. That way I can have infinite holes. On yours you can only have 8 holes, 4 on the front and 4 on the back,. I've seen circular inserts, also infinite but much harder to rout out a circular hole and harder to make circular inserts. Keep up the good work
Very good! But The sacrificial piece wouldnt be better if it was round and not square? Many more positions would be possible than just 4 or 8. Am I wrong? Do I miss somethimg?
Wow, this is way above "average" work! I learned a lot just watching the interstitials between explanations. You've got some nice jigs and techniques in there with your tablesaw and clamping.
Very good. I think I will use your design as a reference. There is nothing to change, perhaps making the sacrificial piece circular rather than a rectangle. Thanks very much

Nice video. Thanks for making /sharing it. One other video I watched on drill press tables they uses a circle instead of the square design for the area to be damaged when you drill thru and then could just rotate it abit to have a fresh area.
The Average Craftsman, get a big-ass hole saw, and size the ‘socket’ in the table to the size the hole-saw produces. That way, creating a new insert is a simple matter of popping the hole saw into the press, and cutting out a set of inserts all at once.
I built this a couple of years ago. The only think I would change is I'd use 1/2" plywood. The table is very heavy and rather difficult to take up and down. I don't have space to leave it on all of the time. Other than that I'm very happy.
Loved this video and am going to build it exactly the same way. Thanks for making this video. I even have the same drill press and already love it but will love it more after the table is finished. Again, thanks
Ha Ha HaI Laughed my ass off when I was waiting for the sponsorship commercial that always comes at the beginning and then it didn't. You are hilarious and I replayed it a 2nd time just to laugh. I have needed/wanted a drill press table for some time and this has always been rollin around in my head as to what features I wanted. I think you nailed it and thanks for the inspiration! Keep at it!
i could be wrong but in my experience this is the only youtube woodworker who sets a good example by actually using the guard on the saw.

I’ve looked at a lot of drill press tables on UA-cam this is the one I’m gonna build. 😊
Clean and simple. Very nice!
The offset is a great idea!
Though I may make mine circular. That way, instead of having just four sacrificial spots, there would be a dozen or more, depending on the wear of the sacrificial piece.
I appreciate your common sense, simple language, detailed explanations. Your videos are well paced and focus on each step. Good job...I've subscribed.
Just what I want. I have same drill press. Glad I checked your list of parts. Had a few questions that were answered there.
Very nice. I’ve been looking at a few videos and I think your design is the one I’m going with. Thanks
Finally, some one who values their fingers and uses a guard on a table saw. Great project too. Thx
You bet!

This is exactly what I need for my Drill Press. I do believe this will be my next workshop project. Thank You!
Thanks, Roger! Good luck on your build!

Yeah, that's been mentioned a few times and it's a good idea. It was a brain fart on my part more than anything. Thanks for watching!
Without accommodation for clamps in the T-track, there’s no reason to have the T-track extend to the front of the table: the fence will never be positioned there.

Great design! I know where I'll be this weekend! Even the little relief to pick the insert with - WOW!
Thanks for watching!
Great job, Average. Nicely done.

Hi, new comer here. Thanks for this drill press table. It has great ideas which allows me to upgrade my present build. Thanks. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Very helpful. Thanks bunches. I am dually subscribed. North of the 49th.
Nothing average about this table, sir. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Very funny intro! Loved the design to offset the insert to be able to reuse the same insert four times. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks!
@@TheAverageCraftsman Same here. First time I came across the offset in a video about drill press table. Great idea!
Tip with the stop block. If you put a little chamfered edge on the bottom corner of it when there is saw dust and gear it’ll push into that chamfer not between the work piece and stop block
Thanks. You are correct!
Only about 30 seconds in but you already get a like button from me lol your "ad-sponsor" convinced me
Thanks!
Great project, and I love the removable insert. I only think I'll use a chisel to square out the corners in the hole for my insert so I don't have to round off the corners every time I make a replacement.
I am not great with a chisel so I figured I would have better luck rounding the corners. 😬 Thanks for watching!
I've wanted to build one of these for a while. You sold me on the offset waste board. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! Good luck on your build.

Loved the "word from our sponsors" bit.
👍
Thanks for taking time to document the table. Question ... why 1 1/2" thick?
Outstanding Presentation and demonstration. Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together for us. Great job....
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great build. I love the idea about off-setting the insert. I had not thought about that. I'm going to modify my plans to add that for sure.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Dig it. I had a similar project in mind after picking up a WEN 4214 just recently.

nice idea I hate having to move attachments like that off and on for just a quick one time need.

Thanks! Yeah, they are good starter tools. I dont regret most of them.

One other video I watched on drill press tables they uses a circle instead of the square design for the area to be damaged when you drill thru and then could just rotate it abit to have a fresh area.
I thought about that but figured cutting out circles would be a lot more time consuming than the way I did it. Definitely a good approach though!
The Average Craftsman, get a big-ass hole saw, and size the ‘socket’ in the table to the size the hole-saw produces. That way, creating a new insert is a simple matter of popping the hole saw into the press, and cutting out a set of inserts all at once.
