Maybe that was Hideo's intention, to move away from what we (the fans) were familiar with. Our Phantom Pain for what was lost.
Mechanically, yes it is easily the best game ever made to this date. No game currently on the market even comes close mechanically speaking. But gameplay wise, the game is terrible, it is boring, lifeless open world, repetitive.
This game's story is a true masterpiece, showing Kojima's evolution as a director...I mean, all other MGS games feel like cartoon/comics compared to PP's narrative...Too bad fanboys were lazy to listen to tapes and pay attention to details...
I loved how they did storytelling with the tapes on this game I could listen to them at my own pace in the aerial command center, fill in missing context etc.
Well, Peace Walker had way better story and really was way ahead of its time, considering it was 1.5gb game for PSP back in 2009. MGSV took so many from it.
You could not be more wrong. Mgs3s ending had an AMAZING and emotional story to it. None of them have felt like cartoons. At all. Each one hits hard. Especially MGS3.
He's probably referring to the campy comedy that was peppered throughout the others. Here? Honestly, yet to find a joke that was meant to be a joke outside of asking Ocelot about asses. i was so down, jobless and pennyless during my birth day and i popped this game in and to my surpirse the game chanted happy birthday to snake. later i realized its a cutscene for the player and it really made my day.
There was more to having Kiefer Sutherland voice snake than just what was mentioned. It was for the fact that venom snake is a doppelganger not actually big boss or a clone like solid snake. It was meant to show the differences, kojima just couldn't tell people that when he was asked why Kiefer Sutherland is doing the role since it was answered before the game was released. A lot of "cut stuff " a lot of it wasn't kojima but was actually konami. Kojima had long scenes were actually planned but konami said no, all of the eli stuff was cut because of konami etc.
I cant help but still really enjoy the game even if theres that much wrong with it, i wish a remake was an option where it was made right but i think ill live lol its a game that plays like no other and when you become so familier with it, it just feels even more fun to play
On the cut guard dog thing, I’ve definitely heard from guards saying “smell something huh?” On occasion. Pretty sure that’s them talking to the dogs they’re meant to have
Remember the talk of David Hayter voicing snake was brought up during MGS 3 an like kojima said then the main character was a different person. Hayter had to re audition for the voice role back then. Figure what kojima said made sense. If the clone was supposed to have same sound of voice then liquid and solidus would have the same voice as well but they didn’t
Same Dawg, It was the first one I played. Then 2 years ago I played Snake Eater and Peace Walker, as well as a little bit of Sons of Liberty. Playing those games made me love The Phantom Pain even more. It's definetely in my top five favourite video games of all time.
They should have added the battle gear as a reward for getting S on every mission if it really was completed and just overpowered. If they've already finished every mission that requires balancing, let the player go nuts. Just disable it for multiplayer. Easy fix :(
I was having a blast in the gameplay but couldnt finish the game because i was having to repeat some missions to progress the game to end and that felt cheap as hell and uninspired. I totally agree with you, even not considering myself a Metal Gear connoisseur to the great extend, the story was not the greatest point of the game ...
I've got a weird relationship with this game, I'm ok with it when my plans work out but it happened way to often that a tiny slip up caused everything to go to hell
Phantom Pain is hands down the greatest GAME ever created. Dont get me wrong I agree with most of the complaints but minus the plot twist etc..... I challenge anyone to tell me what game has better gameplay than MGS5 like 6 years after release?
I understand ALL the complains about MGSV - but STILL think than it´s one of the best and finest games overall of the it´s generation only because of it´s gameplay. It´s so smooth, it makes so much fun.... I can´t help myself, I just love it so much.

21) Did you know you don't have to necessarily return to Mother Base just to shower? Simply start the 1st Mission [Phantom Limbs] up, skip the cut-scenes, and then Abort Mission while you're on D-Horse, and voila! I guess it's because that mission acts like a Tutorial Mission and 'resets' the whole being too far progressed within the game...? Same tactic may work on the mission where you meet Ishmael, but I have not tried it yet, surprisingly. (How I discovered this) I started Phantom Limbs - whilst covered in flies - so I could farm for Mist Parasites (it's quicker than 'Where Do The Bees Sleep?').
Played the game once, beat it about 95%. No desire to ever go back. Konami was so willing to throw Kojima off the roof, so I’m more than willing to never touch anything with their name on it again.
Honestly i think hideo for sure planned changing snakes actor due to the identity reveal at the end and hopefully david haytor was made aware of this and the fact that there was only 22 mins of lines anyway
As a fan of the whole series I'll always have a bitter-sweet feeling about V. The gameplay, graphics and attention to detail was amazing and it's honestly the only game in the series with really good controls. But I just don't like both the plot of the story as well as the lackluster way it is told. It's a great game but still it always feels like it could have been even much more.
Absolutely pathetic they wouldn’t let him get his award....grown adults with millions and millions of dollars acting like there in high school. MGS was my favorite game/story and I’ll never get more after phantom pain.
The mgs series is complete, the only thing this game was missing was optional co op with friendly fire on for role play pvp, *raidens suit should have been cyborg ninja with some powers and a sword* and the last unlockable should have been *playing as quiet with her incredible locomotion and powers* Other than wanting those things, this game is a legendary work of art. It felt so good riding in that plane, setting up weapons, seeing quiet do different things based on companionship, then dropping down playing some music and doing recon then stealth non lethal taking out enemies to reach a goal with the option of killing that made you grow a Horn and stay covered in blood. Literally one of the greatest games ever made and it has that special mgs feel to it.
There is to this date June 2021, NO METAL GEAR SOLID 5. IT DOES NOT EXIST. The V DOES NOT STAND FOR 5. It stands for VENOM as in VENOM SNAKE, the character that YOU PLAY AS. Hence why they kept repeating V HAS COME TO.
@@alastorcorvus that's where they messed up. To keep it consistent they would have had to pay both David and Sutherland. MGSV you are not a clone or anything; your the medic from the crash lol
@@tinfoilhat1619 not really, Kojima wanted a different approach to the character, not solely to foreshadow that he's a different snake. The thing is, people's voice change as they get older, and Big Boss is around 50 yo in this game, and he was voiced by another older actor in MGS4. And you know, the real foreshadowing was that the Medic in Ground Zeroes was voice by Sutherland too. So it can be both.
I'm still playing it like a damn fiddle, so much diversity of gameplay, so much strategies, so many ways to take out an outpost, i love this game so much
Its true i was a bit disappointed with them not hiring David Hayter again. (its not just him, almost the whole cast is gone, i think they only kept the guy that did the voice for Huey/Otacon and thats it) But i think Sutherland did a great job regardless. I ended up not even thinking about it after a while.
I do need to go back and finish it. BTW, I actually liked the fact it was more focused on the gameplay and less so on cutscene exposition. I don't like having to wait for 30 minutes through a cutscene so I can PLAY THE GAME. Cut scenes for appropriate story progression and character development are one thing. But the massive Death Stranding ending was AWFUL.

Mechanically, yes it is easily the best game ever made to this date. No game currently on the market even comes close mechanically speaking. But gameplay wise, the game is terrible, it is boring, lifeless open world, repetitive.
The man who sold the world is my favorite Bowie song. So a cover being the opening song instead of “diamond dogs”still pretty damn good 💎🐕
This is one hell of a game, the perfect evolution for the MGS franchise IMO. Too bad the game is incomplete.
The story isn't finished but the gameplay may be one of thebezt in any game
"Boss, that's a donkey. It isn't domesticated, so you.. you'll have a hard time riding it." Mans speaks from experience methinks
i was so down, jobless and pennyless during my birth day and i popped this game in and to my surpirse the game chanted happy birthday to snake. later i realized its a cutscene for the player and it really made my day.
Jeez, same story here just a couple of years ago
One of the best games I’ve ever played in my life .
Anyone else catch yong yeah interviewing the voice actors? Way to go yong !
I cant help but still really enjoy the game even if theres that much wrong with it, i wish a remake was an option where it was made right but i think ill live lol its a game that plays like no other and when you become so familier with it, it just feels even more fun to play
One of the best games ever made.
On the cut guard dog thing, I’ve definitely heard from guards saying “smell something huh?” On occasion. Pretty sure that’s them talking to the dogs they’re meant to have
Even with the drama of the production of the game, it has aged well. Just reinstalled and having a blast
Still play it daily. Mainly FOBs, side ops, building a better army, etc. Platinum'd it awhile back.
It's been 9 years....
This is and will always be my favorite MG game and I lovely every bit about it!
Same Dawg, It was the first one I played. Then 2 years ago I played Snake Eater and Peace Walker, as well as a little bit of Sons of Liberty. Playing those games made me love The Phantom Pain even more. It's definetely in my top five favourite video games of all time.
Same here emps
@@Definitly-not-Omegon GG!
"To the out rage of some players, killing the kids results in a game over"
Bruh getting the ultimate edition for 6$ on xbox may be one of the best gaming deals ive ever gotten
They should have added the battle gear as a reward for getting S on every mission if it really was completed and just overpowered. If they've already finished every mission that requires balancing, let the player go nuts. Just disable it for multiplayer. Easy fix :(
I’m still salty about how bad the story is told and how it feels like half a game
You aren't wrong.
Therefore you experienced the "Phantom pain" exactly what Kojima was trying to portray
@@JohnOven I guess heheh
That's because it was originally supposed to have a chapter 3 and more mechanics but Konami rushed it out of the door
I've got a weird relationship with this game, I'm ok with it when my plans work out but it happened way to often that a tiny slip up caused everything to go to hell
Still playing it to this day.
I hope that the game get ready soon, i been playing the beta game for the last 5 years
What
@@justcallmee9795 you don't know what a beta is?
@@Saddonghussein this game is finished. Oh You're talking about the story.
@@justcallmee9795 no I'm talking about the hole game, if you play the mg saga even snakes revenge you should know that phantom pain its not a mgs game at all
@@Saddonghussein So it's not a real sequel in your opinion?
Still one the absolute greatest games I've ever played. After 100% completion years ago, I still play it to this day.
5 years and still better than Modern day Watch Dogs.
And still better than Metal gear solid two in my opinion
21) Did you know you don't have to necessarily return to Mother Base just to shower? Simply start the 1st Mission [Phantom Limbs] up, skip the cut-scenes, and then Abort Mission while you're on D-Horse, and voila! I guess it's because that mission acts like a Tutorial Mission and 'resets' the whole being too far progressed within the game...? Same tactic may work on the mission where you meet Ishmael, but I have not tried it yet, surprisingly.
(How I discovered this)
I started Phantom Limbs - whilst covered in flies - so I could farm for Mist Parasites (it's quicker than 'Where Do The Bees Sleep?').
Played the game once, beat it about 95%. No desire to ever go back. Konami was so willing to throw Kojima off the roof, so I’m more than willing to never touch anything with their name on it again.
⭐️ the surprise birthday party for me in outer heaven kinda blew my mind yesterday... 🤯
Honestly i think hideo for sure planned changing snakes actor due to the identity reveal at the end and hopefully david haytor was made aware of this and the fact that there was only 22 mins of lines anyway
the game is an absolute beauty have 300 hours on xbox and working on the 2nd play thru on pc with 120 hours only on mission 23.
If the game would have been finished in it's entirety I'm pretty sure this could have been considered game of the decade
I was wondering why the battle gear kept telling me to go to the hanger and nothing would happen it confused me until now lol
Fools still think this game is incomplete.
@@brkenppt2222 there was one mission cut, and it was cut for good reason, it was redundant. There is no missing chapter.
I literally just bought this again last night on my PC. Had fun on ps4
Well i know one thing about the phantom pain and that is the best game i ever played. I pray to god they make a part 6 someday.
Donna Burke also is the voice-over of the Japanese Bullet Train or Shinkansen
Had the game lying on the shelf for some years and only installed it recently. Wish I had done it right away after buying it. Good game
Man I wanted to use the Battle Gear and the Metal Gear when I had it
The mgs series is complete, the only thing this game was missing was optional co op with friendly fire on for role play pvp, *raidens suit should have been cyborg ninja with some powers and a sword* and the last unlockable should have been *playing as quiet with her incredible locomotion and powers*
Other than wanting those things, this game is a legendary work of art.
The impending separation was the thing that ruined something great, because konami sucks
My 3 favorite games of the last decade Bloodborne, MGSV and Mario Odyssey
There is to this date June 2021, NO METAL GEAR SOLID 5. IT DOES NOT EXIST. The V DOES NOT STAND FOR 5. It stands for VENOM as in VENOM SNAKE, the character that YOU PLAY AS. Hence why they kept repeating V HAS COME TO.
Just bought the game and am enjoying it.
Beat facts.
When I finally got over the heart break that was MGS5, you had to bring it right back.
I just realized, Keifer looked like Liquid Snake in the Lost Boys 😅😅
Big medic.
It's not boss or snake, that's why he's voiced by someone else..
Except that the original Big Boss is also voiced by Sutherland in this game.
@@alastorcorvus cool.
Was just about to go to bed then this popped up
Guards also make a dog reference in game. "Hear something? boy."
Why are we still here? Just to suffer?
You feel it too, don't you? The phantom pain.
That’s why i couldn’t enjoy the previous metal gear games like i wanted LONG ASS UNINTERESTING CUTSCENES
I got Metal Gear 5 but haven't played any other MG game. Advice? Can I get a "what you need to know before playing" video?
This game is set before any numbered entry
@@yungboogaloo nah, MGS 3 is set before any other one in the series
I always thought it had the coolest and most intuitive movement system in a stealth game. When back here after playing Helldivers 2 because the game character movement is very similar to MGS5.
I wish eli was a buddy imagine sending him to solo outposts on his own.
hey did you know the main theme from mgrr is sampled within the mgsv soundtrack called truth
Was a great game… wish it got a huge revamp for ps5
Played through the game again, it makes me sad that the initial idea was never made.
I cannot describe how freaking awesome this game is..
A few things:
I don't think fans missed lengthy cutscenes, they missed closure and explanation
The game cost what it cost because a new game engine was made from scratch.
Witcher 3 related it's an achievement "David and Goylat" easiest way frost bomb him then use the crossbow with the perk that deals 1000% damage. In total took a minute
@A Spirit I know the achievement is called David and Goylat
@A Spirit dammit I thought this was the other video about hidden ways to kill bosses. Don't know why it took me to this video when it wasn't in my history. Silly UA-cam
I love how the first one is already wrong. Sutherland is nit Big Boss but Venom Snake
I just started playing this game again and you guys make a video about it
The birthday one don't be on your base on the day you will have to leave mother base reload the game and then it will tell you to come back to base for the birthday scene
Sometimes in the subtitles guards will say "what is it boy?" When they hear a noise I made on accident
Boss, you killed a child. Amazing, mission complete. That right there is why you're the best, boss.
One of my favorites Metal Gear
I would of been so much happier with ten less missions but a coherent story.
