Ive just lost 16 kilos. Before I was lucky to walk 2000 steps a day, now after shedding some weight Im walking 12000 - 15000 each day. I never thought it possible but start sml and it DOES get easier
I am 76 and was my wife's full time carer with MS for 26 years. She has recently passed. I had pneumonia and a heart attack towards the end of her life as a result of the stress of the long term carer role. I have been walking about 11,000 steps a day for some years as recorded on my Fitbit and it certainly helps. I carefully maintain my goal weight of 75kg.
Oh, and about the step counters, I don't understand why people wear them on their wrist. YOU DON'T WALK ON YOUR HANDS. In my line of work, we push wheelchairs and carry food trays, therefore out arms aren't swinging and the steps are NOT being counted. I wear my fit bit around my ankle. I refuse to miss those steps 😂
I do wear it on my wrist and I push strollers or grocery carts and carry babies a lot of the time. I do believe wearing it on my wrist reduces its accuracy.
I walk 25,000 steps three days a week. I working an industry where I am on my feet for 11 hours plus I walk home after work which is approximately two and half miles from my work. I absolutely love walking and cannot get enough of it. Walking home is mostly uphill which is even better for me. I have lost two stone, I feel young, I look slimmer and most importantly I feel healthy. Glad I decided to take the leap and change my lifestyle. I will keep walking and eat less. Try it and see your own results you will be amazed. Will never join a gym don't care how good the equipment looks never joining a gym walking is free, the fresh air is free too.
I like doing 11,000 steps a day. It is relaxing and invigorating, and I'm losing fat. On two days a week I replace the long walk with a very steep 1km walk on steps up a mountain, and down again - it's hard, but it really is strengthening my heart, legs, knees, glutes, and lungs, and my agility. I want to build a foundation of strength to carry me into old age.
I was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal issue in the back end of February and it’s been a real wake up call to make some lifestyle changes. Since then I’ve been walking daily and made some changes to my diet. I was already doing about 10k steps at work, so I was seeking to match that on my days off. I try to go for a walk first thing so that I can get a good 4500 steps (approx 40min) before I’ve had a chance to think about it. The rest of the daily steps usually comes from incidental steps around the home or when I need to go to the shops etc. Some days I go for an additional afternoon walk, and other days I do a little yoga, Pilates, or light aerobics. I haven’t weighed myself, but since that diagnosis and the changes I’ve made I’m slimmer around my torso, and my jeans are feeling looser all round.
I started walking and over time increased my step count from about 4000 steps to between 10 to 13 thousand steps a day I also started a low carb diet. So far, I’ve lost 54 lbs.
I know for me, 10,000 steps was a magic bullet for weight loss, along with getting into ketosis. Added alittle wt training for total fat loss of 40 lbs. and gained 10 lbs. of muscle. At 56 yrs old, I think thats pretty good.
I am 73 ,since retirement from 2012 I started walking for the pass 6 year I walk 12000 or more daily,I feel much a healthier and more active than my neighbours who's just 60 or below.😅😂
10k three times weekly every other day, HIIT and strength exercises three times weekly every other day, one day off, sleep at least six hours, 18:6 intermittent fasting, carbs below 100g per day. I'm 57
I'm a PSW and at work we easily get between 14,000 to 16,000 on a normal day. I did get over 17,000 at work the other day, but the most was 21,000 😱 Yes, in an 8 hour work day. But yet most of us are overweight or unhealthy. As the saying goes, YOU CAN'T OUT WORK A BAD DIET.
10,000 steps are just the minimum required daily steps. Of course the more steps you do beyond this 10,000 steps the better but as long as you hit the 10,000 steps mark everyday you are doing what is required to live a long and healthy life.
You have a very good demeanor when getting your info across. I am 50, and usually end up with 10-12k steps per day. I do various other workouts throughout the week as well (my weeks consist of weights 4x, 1 hour of shadow boxing, 1 hour of boxing on the heavy bag, 1 hour of sparring per week). But with that said, it's my morning walk that makes or breaks my day, whether mentally or physically.
Thank you Evan, I much appreciate your comment. I do try to keep my videos easy to get across understand and I'm glad you found it that way. You would seem to have a very active lifestyle and I totally agree about that morning walk. I feel the same way.
I’m 72. I’m listening to you. Good advice. I’m considering buying a Garmin watch. I need to keep track of my heartbeat, heart health etc. Thanks for your effort. BB
I'm 72 and I walked 10k steps for a couple weeks and did notice my legs getting tired the first few days but to be honest I didn't notice any better conditioning than I get from 5k or better yet 7.5k I think 2-3 miles a day is plenty for just about anyone.
Nice video. In Japanese, the base is 10^4, 10^8, 10^12 Instead of 10^3, 10^6, 10^9, 10^12. So 10k steps isn’t just a round number, it’s a very round number, like thousand or million. Studies done here more recently show benefits up to 8-12k steps daily. After that, fatigue plays a role. 10k is 5 miles or roughly 8 kilometers. At a decent pace that’s roughly 100 minutes, which makes it easier to break up, as in 8 minutes/hour for 12 hours, but it usually ends up as 20 minute chunks after eating.
I have been walking all my life. I'm 57 years old. If I didn't walk my health would get worse. I have a lung disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes. I walk at a slow pace, but it helps with circulation, and edema as well.
Hi there! I just stumbled across your channel and I noticed that I need to incorporate a few changes to my eating healthy and I just quit smoking but I am using the patch. Will this hinder my losing weight and getting in my steps?
Me? 16,000 steps per day. All the benefits of walking identified in studies are true. I started jigging when I was 25 years old. Two years ago, I started walking to prevent injury. I am now 72 years old and I intend to continue walking as long as I can.
How many steps per day? Well, It depends on whether you've got an admiring hottie with a dog to walk with. In fact, she can leave fido home and it won't affect the results. But seriously, thanks for an enlightening vid.
Hi Brian. As a runner (and this is predominantly a running channel) I will always recommend running as an activity for health and fitness generally speaking. But one must bear in mind that running, particularly those that may not be used to it, will increase stress levels in the body and as it is higher intensity then you are more likely to burn quick access sugar rather than fat. My overall opinion would be to incorporate run/walk sessions in a weekly fitness routine that also contains lots of just walking. That way you'll reap the benefits of both worlds.
You are the expert however I lost 2½ stone over 6mths walking 10,000 steps for 3mths than 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day for the next 3mths however I did HIT walking starting walking normal pace the faster for 5mins then slower etc this is how lost my weight and yes eating healthy and reducing my alcohol intake
You dont need a step counter. It takes me 1 hr an 1/2 to walk 10k steps so 3 times a day I walk for 30 minutes. All those step counters do is burn up your phone's battery.
Great video. Just want to comment, that like most things in life, it's not just about hitting basic targets (i.e. no of steps). It's the quality. For example, a brisk walk for 20-30 mins, at 3 miles per hour, and a good steps per minute of 120+ is much better than a slow plod
Think we should just move and walk far. Step away from that CAR. I feel wayyy better walking at leisure , not stressed out running for a bus or train like when I worked.
If you need to walk more than an hour to get to water or food you simply live to far away. Remember we used to be monkeys so I bet swinging from tree to tree for 10 minutes is much better 😂👍🏻
I walked 12k steps a day until I reached my goal weight. Took 2 months. Now I do 7k every other day. My weight has stayed put.
Ive just lost 16 kilos. Before I was lucky to walk 2000 steps a day, now after shedding some weight Im walking 12000 - 15000 each day. I never thought it possible but start sml and it DOES get easier
Well done Lisa! Great work

Hi i like walking im retried so I walk 10000 step in the morning 10in the evening i love meeting people and challenges them to keep me motivated 😊
I started walking 10,000 steps a day one month ago and I have lost 10lbs. 10 more pounds to go!

Me too actually. When I walk anywhere. It’s on my wrist. But when I am doing the walking, I wear it on my ankle
I do wear it on my wrist and I push strollers or grocery carts and carry babies a lot of the time. I do believe wearing it on my wrist reduces its accuracy.
I have a strap attached just below the knee with my mobile in to give me a more accurate step count

You need resistance training of some sort, walking is not enough.

You're very welcome Kitty.
Benefits levels off at around 8000 steps a day. Weight training is a good addition.

I started with 6000 from Jan & now i am touching 11000 in April & its really helpful
I usually walk between five and half and six thousand steps on most days ‘ and feel great for it’’ and maintaining my weight’ and overall health
I always go for 10 to 12 thousand a day but I have a very active job as well.
You have a very good demeanor when getting your info across.

Thanks very much Bonnie. Good luck with it. ps I love my Garmin.
I have A fitbit and I Love it. It tracks your steps, sleep and heart rate.
@@sism3028 thanks for your information. I will check Fitbit out. I believe it's cheaper and I am on a budget. I walk daily. 😸😃❤️

As a mail carrier, I usually walk 20,000 steps a day. In an 8 hour shift it's broken up into 10-20 minutes at a time.
Currently doing 10,000 steps per day HIIT and weights every week. Lost 4 kgs in 3 weeks

Great work.
Would you recommend run/walk intervals as a good health/weight loss strategy?

Great video. I always wondered where 10K steps came from.
You and me both! Thanks for watching.
Good video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
its been like 10 days i am doing 12 to 15k step mixture of walking and running - hope i can see some results with in 3 months
You definitely will, especially if you incorporate some hills or stairs into your course.
I get wore out at about 5,500 steps. I cannot imagine 10k.
EXCELLENT!!!
Thank you very much.
how many days a week should you walk? I am 74 and find it hard on my joints to walk every day without a break.
Good video! I aim for between 12000 and 15000 steps a day. Over 20000 steps a day is a healthy bonus!
Excellent work.
33,000 steps.
You dont need a step counter. It takes me 1 hr an 1/2 to walk 10k steps so 3 times a day I walk for 30 minutes. All those step counters do is burn up your phone's battery.
My step goal is 11500 steps a day. I hit that around 4-5 days a week. Lift weights for 1 hr a day 6 days a week.
You're a beast!
@@jc4evur661 that is kind of you.. thanks
Great video. Just want to comment, that like most things in life, it's not just about hitting basic targets (i.e. no of steps). It's the quality. For example, a brisk walk for 20-30 mins, at 3 miles per hour, and a good steps per minute of 120+ is much better than a slow plod

I lost 40lbs so far walking 10000 steps and never diet. I eat the food I love and the weight falling off
What ever happened to just saying I went for a 1 hour walk ?
10,000 steps a day was the marketing slogan of a Japanese pedometer maker during the Tokyo Olympics. It is not based on science.
-10-12 k steps
I walk 20,000 steps a day with 10,000 steps running... feel amazing, but know in life later on, could do a lot of damage rather than good
I’ve been walking 10,000 to 15,000 steps daily for years and I didn’t even mean to; my lifestyle is just kinda like that I guess
Specifically, from November 2020 to March 2021 I was walking 20,000 to 25,000 steps daily
I did 10K steps and still haven't lost weight
One theory is that they chose 10,000 because the Japanese character for 10,000 looks like a running man
2,000
12000 OMAD
10 000 st. = 8 km
If you need to walk more than an hour to get to water or food you simply live to far away. Remember we used to be monkeys so I bet swinging from tree to tree for 10 minutes is much better 😂👍🏻
I think ppl have better things to do then 10k steps. Like work
We're not all workaholics, and it seems like most who posted here are probably retired.
i get up at 530 walk for 1.5 hrs, then go to work, and lift afterwards.....you sound lazy!
