Coming from a “road family” (mom was a working/touring musician 60’s & 70’s) I actually get it, as my earliest memories are from the road.
Touring is actually awesome, but the reality of it really is way less glamorous than imagined and runs you down after a while, and as it is with everything work is WORK.

I took them to an actual shop that sprayed it. Best thing I ever did.

Rob, my friends and I, used to travel to Canada on occasion to go skateboarding in and around Ontario and the border guards were ALWAYS looking for the B.C. bud and trust me 21 years ago, I had trouble finding any and my friends never smoked the stuff. The border guards were just gungho in the early 2000s.

I can vouch for Gator cases being durable for tour. From pedal cases to our FOH desk, we still use one today that is 10 years old!

I am from Canada, It's interesting you comment about canada border cops, i found the inverse for the USA, usa border cops can be more ...confrontational with us (especially in airports) and do more to search. When coming back home, cbsa gave me no issues.

Many thanks for answering my Questions Rob. I never knew that you came to Cardiff twice. If I had of known I would of been there. As I only live about an hour away from Cardiff. And I don't remember Metal hammer having of your tour dates in the magazine. As back then I never had the internet and other than Metal hammer and be hearing from a friend was my only way of knowing about any of the bands that I'm into coming to the UK. I know what you mean about looking forward to having a shower when you get home. As the three times that I have gone on holidays in Europe (Spain, Türkiye, Portugal) my hotel room only had a shower. And I'm more of a bath person.

Everytime my band has crossed through Canada it’s ALLLWAYS been a hassle. They really do try to “get you”. Held up for hours. Been all over the world and Canada has the worst border to get held up at.😅

I’d honestly love to see chimaira play knotfest Australia 2025 bc it’s already been announced but no lineup probably won’t get that until next yr BUT knotfest aus 2023 was killer amazing lineup 2024 just recently again with pantera was amazing but wasn’t quite as big as 2023 so 2025 Aus knotfest with chimaira in the lineup holy crap that would draw an awesome crowd if people knew you guys were coming back

Honestly, I just start riffing around to loosen up, and that's it! No specific regimen or anything.
Im from Minnesota and I grew up going up on canadian fly in fishing trips in Red lake ontario. Many times.. the border from international falls MN to fort frances. They dont play around. They asked my dad and stepdad one time if anyone had been to jail. My stepdad said he did... next thing you know he goes into the station for a full blown strip search/cavity search and my brother who brought weed in a baseball glove was tripping out. Luckily they didnt find that..but the canadian/US border.. they dont fuck around.

What made you settle on the Tone Master over other modelers out there? Those power stage units are so damn solid. I have been using them for a few years now and turned my sister in law (Morgan from Kittie) on to them as well. Definitely makes travel much easier for fly in gigs.
Honestly I knew I wanted to check out the whole Cortex, Helix, etc. world, and then the TMP came out, and I decided to give it a try. Simple as that. So I've really had nothing else to compare it to, but I'm enjoying it so far. Tell Morgan I said hello and I wish them nothing but success with their resurgence! 🤘

Loved the 🤯 edit 😂. Great episode as always. For the next episode I would love to know if you ever ran into any “walls” where you felt your technique or skill was sort of stagnant and you weren’t improving/learning new skills anymore. How did you identify this and what did you do to ultimately overcome it. I’m currently at a standstill in my progression. I pretty much learned how to play, got to an intermediate skill level (I’m being generous using the word intermediate lol) but haven’t improved in years. Thanks 🙏🏼

Hey brother! I’ve been so excited for a new EYL! me and my girl are gonna be driving from East Tennessee too the July chimaira show!!! I can’t freaking waittttt hope you’re doing good brother, got a question for the next EYL could you show us the steps it takes too Aquire touring gear? Where too begin, like recommended road cases, cables etc because I wanna get back into shows and I have guitars cabs and amps but I don’t have anything too store them in, I think everyone would enjoy knowing where too start for touring or show equipment

@@RobArnoldWorld when I play shows I’m more concerned about my amp, I fear dropping it or something hitting it hard enough too mess up the bias of the amp, is there any good travel cases for heads? And what guitar tech work benches do you recommend?

I heard the guys from Crobot mention on Octane that they have the Planet Fitness black card and they can use the showers at all their locations when on tour. $24.99 a month, 2500 locations in the U.S.
Haha check this out... For years a group of us would go to the gym every day on tour unless it wasn't possible for whatever reason. And while I do enjoy attempting to stay in shape, often times my main objective was simply to get a good shower in!
Touring through the border to the US is the same. It’s the same both ways.

Thanks dude! About playing COF stuff, personally I'd rather just stick to playing material I was a part of creating. However if I were told it was something we were doing, I can't see myself trying to fight it.

10:58 lol, Rob, I love ya brutha but just say plugging a cable in your guitar is the same flipping an “ON” switch. Curious Rob, how do/did you guys handle things like medication now that guys are older or just need meds, etc…. going country to country. I’m referring to legal meds.
Also, like the start to finish recording vid a start to finish tour prep vid would be handy for some people and a good peek behind the curtain for others.
Maybe a few vids on the different elements like setting one up, hopping on a tour, the people involved, the finances (where the money goes, cost, etc….) and so on.

@@RobArnoldWorld Right on. I was kinda more thinking it would be kinda cool to do a more in depth touring series going into detail about all the elements of a tour. I know with tickets costs being what they are people are curious about where all the money is going and not enough of it goes to the artist (unless you’re maybe Taylor Swift) but more like, how you prepared when you had time or what the travel and days were like. Stuff like that, but maybe I’m the only one who would think that’s a good thing to have as a resource? I dunno, either way, be good brutha!

will those gator cases fit an oversized mesa cab? are going to do both foh and through the speakers or just one or the other foh or cab?
Oh yeah, they'd definitely work well with any Mesa! I plan to run a line from the FTMP to FOH, and another to a cab.

Oh and one other thing with showers at least in the states. If you have the option hit up truck stops. They have showers and they’re pretty decent. You have to pay for them but you might be able to find a truck driver that will let you use one of their shower credits. I know I would hook you up if I saw you out on the road at a truck stop.

Hi Rob hope you’re doing well. Hope this question would be ok for your next episode. With out going into too much detail how does it work getting paid in a band? For example in my job I get maybe £2000 a month and I know that’s a constant things and I can budget around that, how does it work being paid in a band each month?
Also I’m just wondering what do you do work wise since not touching as much with Chimaira what’s jobs bring you an income currently?
Being in a band is a crap shoot! It's feast or famine. Some months are great, some see nothing come in. So it's very hard to budget. But the bigger you are, the more that comes in.
Chimaira was always in a state of purgatory, where we made enough to live comfortably, but never enough to truly relax. It's a never ending but still rewarding grind for bands who are/were at our level, but it's still an achievement that I'll always be proud of, because 99% of bands never even make it to that point on the mountain.
Nowadays, this is all I do! I create content, via videos and music, continually trying to level up and build my platform. 🎸
Which guitars are you going to take for this tour? 🤔
I haven't decided actually! I usually let the guitars pick themselves as I'm rehearsing. They'll let me know who wants to play the shows the most!

Two options I can think of...
First, and no pressure of course, but in my Patreon Community, I have a forum where guys are posting pics of their guitars, rigs, live shots, and all sorts of stuff! (link in description if you're interested in checking it out).
And then the second option is to upload your photos to something like iCloud or google drive, and then simply pasting a link here for us.

Love the videos as always, huge fan ! love all the stuff you do, Canadian subscriber and believe me when i say the US border patrol is just as bad if not worse to canadians crossing into the states , I have really long hair and every time i cross (i live 15 minutes from the minnesota border) I get harassed purely based on my looks , i get pulled in searched etc etc .... its no different for us brother !!!
Thanks man! Funny story... we had a bus driver one time who had previously driven Lamb Of God. And he said when they rolled up to the Canadian crossings, that he'd simply say he's carrying a group called Lamb of God, which the border agents assumed were a Christian band, and they'd get waved right through without even having to exit the bus or anything! 🤣
Hey Rob, I used to date an australian girl... and maybe you've noticed, the girls from Down Under look awesome (mine looked like Tarja Turunen at 25, just to give you an idea) BUT horrible flights, I completely agree with you... although there's still worse : New Zealand (never date a girl from NZ, even the Prime Minister !). I've played UK, and the audiences there don't fancy French bands (and France as well), but once they're convinced you're delivering the goods, they can be awesome, and they certainly know one thing or two about rock and metal. Canada... I've been there as a tourist and experienced this border nightmare... that 's the "Red and black" syndrome, I guess (BÖC song !), they've got this mounted police tradition which had a reputation for being ruthless and "get their man in the end". But that's a beautiful country... loved Montreal and Vancouver is probably the most beautiful city in the world. As far as tour gear, I've hesitated a lot but will go for the Kemper stuff ; everything packed in a 15 kilo flight case, plus guitar an a guitar back up and that's it. I've opted for the Kemper amplified version which means you have a choice for any gig between going straight to the front house or using a cabinet if there's one on stage (or doing both actually, which is best of both worlds). The thing with the Kemper is that if (IF) you tweak it right which takes some time and there's definitely a learning curve there, it's very close from a real killer amp, and you can put 1000 amps in it. Plus, the FX section is really good, perfect for live situations. I've seen fear Factory a few weeks ago, Dino Cazares used his Kemper and I really couldn't tell the difference with a real amp (no cabinet on stage, I think he was plugeed straight to the front House). Of course, a real amp might sound better if you want the "real thing", but that's more of a studio issue, live either the Kemper of your Fender rig should work perfectly, provided you put some time and effort tweaking it right... that's certainly not "plug and play", but neither is a real amp ! I hear you on all the gear stuff, and I'm waiting for a real world test (being in the room with the guys, and hearing my rig up against drums, the PA, other instruments, etc) before I make my final judgment. Looking forward to that happening soon!
I don’t know how valid this is but crossing into Canada became a lot more difficult after 9/11. I guess before that it pretty relaxed and just a minute or two.
I think ALL travel became more difficult post-9/11!

That's not true! Chimaira has never stopped in Hawaii. While we have flown Eastward before, you are right though that we would primarily fly Westward. However, the graphic you're referring to was the only one I could find!🤣
Let’s get it straight. It’s the US border agents that suck. The ones in Canada could care less. In my experience at least. Might be different with a huge bus and tons of gear that could be hiding stuff.
Something important to remember is the quality of the 9v battery, with that I mean the brand. A "bad" battery either quality wise or low on voltage makes your guitar sound like @ss.
