    Just got a used Carvin DC400 with a Floyd trem for 1k a month or so (not sure which FR it has but it's good) and it's made me realize I'm willing to deal with FR trems again after only using fixed bridge guitars. Even made a JP60 with a floating trem into a fixed bridge with a wooden block
    So these Jacksons, besides being sleek beasts with EMGs, really interest me. Will definitely order one sometime in the future

    The only real differences between the Floyd 1500 and the 1000 is the 1500 had stainless steel bolts, and the push in arm. Both are made in Korea versus the original Floyd which is made in Germany. That's the real difference. I actually replaced the arm and the bushing that it screws into on my Floyd road 1000 with the exact same parts, but the made in Germany versions. Way better quality than the made in Korea. I know a lot of people have issues with the Floyd screw in arms coming loose so upgrading to the German made parts definitely help.

    Hi Rob really like your informative shows . I am looking to get my first Jackson however I'm an torn between the Virtuoso and the Soloist MG with EMG's . Reason being I have a Gibson Goldtop Les Paul. Would like a Jackoson for the difference it has over a Gibson Les Paul however would also like to go the whole hog and go for the EMG pickups . Are they that much of difference to normal humbuckers or more nasal sounding . I love both brought up on heavy rock but Metalica and Testment are in there too. ❤

    Hi Rob, great tutorial on Floyd setup! I like how you wrote the date and taped it on the headstock. One thing that I do that helps manage a decent size guitar collection is I cut the string info chart off of the string packaging and tape it onto the back of the headstock. Both DAddario and Ernie Ball have them that are approx 1/2" X 2" and I just tape on with regular clear office tape. It tells the string gauge for each string etc and helps with multiple guitars with multiple tunings, if I am experimenting with the same tuning but different gauges etc. It's hard to remember sometimes, Lol. Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I like how you cover many topics ranging from gear, instructional's and behind the scenes band stuff from someone with real world experience... Thank you so much!

    Great info here, was curious as to whether the intonation is semi close when you go from factory strings/setup to custom gauges? Also, had you already set the action and truss rod prior to all this as looked like this change from 9 - 11 was fairly simple. Thanks

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  7 місяців тому +2

      Yeah it was all very playable immediately after the switch. However, I'll still dial in the action and then intonation afterwards. They'll need some fine tuning. But I'm saving that for another video. Stay tuned!🎸

    I’m relatively new to FRs, I’ve only been playing them for about 4-5 years, but I’ve done a lot of experimenting with the 3 vs 4 spring thing because my 2 Floyd’s are both 7 strings, so this issue comes up a lot. In my experience, the number of springs in the back does not effect how how “spongy”, or how relaxed or tense the Floyd is to use. This is because the tension on the springs has to be exactly the same as the tension on the strings to balance at its zero point whether it’s 3 or 4 springs. If anything I feel like having 4 springs that are more relaxed/compressed is easier to use than 3 springs that are more extended with heavy gauge strings. But that’s not because of the number of springs, it has more to do with the resting state. It’s harder to stretch a spring more that is already stretched out. But either way, the differences are very negligible. I did find however, that the FU-Tone springs were more spongy than the regular springs that came with it he Floyd whether it was 3 or 4. But the FU-Tone springs very obviously have a different metallic composition. I would love to do some more experimenting to see if I’m right, but that is what I go by because it’s just what I’ve found to be true from my own experiences. I just use however many springs the guitar needs to balance in an optimal resting state with whatever gauge I’m using. By optimal, i mean stretched a little so there’s room to pull back, but relaxed as possible for the smoothest dive.

    My findings with the floyd rose whammy bar attachment seem to be pretty much the exact same.
    The screw in method technically gives much more versatility in movement, especially on the fly. I actually opted to install the push-in/pull-out bar in my FR1000, because (probably because my guitar is older and the tolerances have improved?), but I always had a rattle, and while you could swing the trem around, couldn't get it to stay in place without it loosening after a while. I have seen videos of ways to prevent the rattle, though.
    I love the quietness and steadiness of the push-in bar, but the screw-on does also feel more direct for the very subtle movements imo.
    I guess it all comes down to personal preference. The traditional twist style on the fr1000 also lends itself to having the funny bar with the built-in allen key (if you don't want to use a hexhider or those headstock screw-in ones). I had a cheap one and it did the job, but it was a little light.

      @@RobArnoldWorld Well I cannot seem to get my high-e string to ring clear.
      I switched to 8-38 and even got some set up tips from Paul Gilbert himself on how to make them work.
      Paul said “High action, enough to grip the strings at the first frets. Might have to relax the truss”…
      I’m starting to think it’s just the gauge of strings, but how come so many legends of the past and even today swear by them?
      I’m gonna try one more maybe myself to tweak this guitar and if it doesn’t work, I’m definitely going to 9-gauge.

      Nice! I've recently become obsessed with Paul Gilbert! He's the man! Cool that you got some tips directly from him!
      But yeah, it's all a balancing act, and making fine adjustments to all the adjustable parts, so that each string rings true all across the fret board. In your situation, I think I would try loosing the truss, or raising the treble side of your bridge. Since I like a low action though, I'd probably try the bridge route first!@@8KilgoreTrout4

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  2 дні тому +1

      Yessir! Simple answer is that Chimaira's first string endorsement was from Dean Markley, and they sent us a bunch of their medium Blue Steel packs, which were 11-52's and contained all the exact gauges I still use to this day. But anyway, we fell in love with those Blue Steels in those gauges, and used them for years until our deal with Dean Markley came to an end. And now, no matter what brand I'm playing, I still prefer those gauges as they're what I'm used to, and most comfortable playing.

    So I know you are new to Jacksons, but have you noticed any issues with the steel screws eating up the threads on the softer metals? I’m not meteorological expert, but I’m curious how they hold up. Steel is a much harder metal than the other components.

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  7 місяців тому +1

      Which parts are you talking about specifically? Regardless, these guitars are all still brand new, and so there hasn't been enough hours put into them for any significant metal on metal friction to have occurred.
      But lemme know more about what you mean, and I'll try and take note!

    • @2974dc
      @2974dc 7 місяців тому

      @@RobArnoldWorld So the chrome pieces you mentioned are stainless steel. The other parts in black paint I am pretty sure is a much softer metal.
