    Amazing and interesting video. Made the switch from amp/cab to a modeler a few before and it felt sooooooo good not to carry tons of equipment with me while providing 100% of my sound everywhere. Meanwhile I switched to a Fractal FM3 and couldn't be any happier 😍 I don't even need a a Power stage. Fractal directly into our splitter and then IEM and FOH. Works like a charme!

    I love how you managed to get THE Rob Arnold sound out of this.
    It's my favourite tone ever, i even bought a 6505+ and decked out my cabs with v30s, and my guitars with emg 81s looking for it. Got in the ballpark, but those motherfuking 6505+s are too loud for home use. An attenuator just murdered the mojo so i ended up selling it all and chasing it with a modeller.
    The Headrush stuff has a few 5150 2s and 6505+ heads.
    Very happy so far

  • @NuBreedPodcast
    @NuBreedPodcast 6 місяців тому +6

    Rob, you can use the Tone Master as its own recording interface and as a desktop editor for your presets. That's what the USB is for. it should have 2 main outs for your monitors as well.

    awesome video - enjoyed the deep dive!! I’m just scratching surface of my TMP, still a headrush user too. Also huge fan of temple audio board - great job on the thru-bolt of tmp and pedal and NOT having to put the quick plate on (they are hard to remove from a pedal - tip use hair dryer). Also super clean wiring thanks for showing. Would love to see pedal setup video - i’ve ordered the mission audio pedal from SW but not sure when it will be in stock.

    For the dedicated looper switch, if you can find the proper sized zip tie and it is the right kind of switch, you can tie it on super tight so there is no chance of accidentally hitting it live. Ive done this on a few setups with various buttons.

    With regards to the whole "audio interface not having usb" thing, I'm pretty sure the Tonemaster acts AS the audio interface, so you can just go straight through the tonemaster into your DAW, and just not bother with an external interface!

    Love the sound of the new rig! The pitch shifting sounds great! Your guitar tone has always been one of my favorite guitar tones of all time! The lead tone you have is so much fun to play around with! I've been looking into the quad cortex but if I end up getting a FTMP I'll definitely be after these tones from you! I have been curious about the cortex and its capture function and if it could capture the tones from the gsp 1101. As far as the looper goes Tom from stray from the path is the only guy I can think of that uses a looper live in a metal setting anyway. I will hopefully be at inkcarceration to hear this rig live!

  • @SHARt_murmur
    @SHARt_murmur 6 місяців тому +2

    Good stuff, man! This is almost identical, at least in concept, for our bass rig: Shure wireless > Pog Nano (blending in some octave down for parts) > DG ADAM > A. FoH B. SDPS 200 > x2 Ampeg 2x10’s.
    I love it, allows for real cabs when needed, but then allows for a quick backpack/fly rig without changing a thing. It’s pretty much just picking the preamp you want/prefer and assemble.
    Only thing I have subtly different, which seems hard with your limited layout/spacing, is access to the Shure wireless instrument input. Love it for practices (backup if it decides to not work), as then you don’t have to waste your battery, etc. But that’s just an ease of use thing that’s not necessary. Regardless, thanks for sharing!

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  6 місяців тому +2

      Right on! And totally man... I had the exact same concern about the instrument input on the Shure. I scratched my head about it for days. At first, I thought whenever I want to use it, or if I'm forced to live, due to some unforeseen circumstance, that I could simply reach down and unscrew the temple quick release plate just enough to turn the Shure so that I could plug in a cable. But then it dawned on me that the easier solution is to just plug straight into the TMP! It's easily accessible, and the only thing I'd be losing is the Shure's tuner.

    • @SHARt_murmur
      @SHARt_murmur 6 місяців тому +1

One thing that I like the most is how many amp heads you have at hand and you can switch from one to another. Which give so many options when your playing live. The expression pedal might be too much though for those holes and screws eventually. One thing I wasn’t a fan of in the TM was all their routing templates. It’s much easier in other units to route to a poweramp. I’ve ran all my units like you are with a cab and a direct. Your tone sounds damn good through the cab. You can add an eq in the poweramp path out if you don’t want to use the Powerstage eq also.

    ***EDIT***
    *'I've now seen the end of the video, I commented before I got to that part! Glad you got it sorted. I imagine that the Fender Tonemaster can be used as an interface in it's own right, and that's what they mean by using the USB for recording. The Helix operates in the same way. Also, I'd recommend that you put your A and B tuning patches on different banks from your main cos if you hit the wrong button by mistake, you don't wanna be changing tunings by mistake!*
    When you say that a line is going to go from the power stage to the FoH, why would you do that?
    Does the ToneMaster not allow for you to have a split output so that you can have an IR on one output but not the other.
    I run a really similar setup on my Helix, and I've got it so my XLR outs have an IR on them and go direct to FoH and my 1/4 outs have no IR/cab etc and that goes to my power amp (I've got both a Mooer Bomb and a Harley Benton GPA-100 and carry both for redundancy).
    I think the ToneMaster is bound to offer similar functionality and that's the best way to go if you wanna run a hybrid setup where you still have a cab on stage for feel but have your main FoH sound be direct.

    this setup will you use for Chimaira live rig?

  • @MichelJay
    @MichelJay 6 місяців тому +1

    Sounds really good ; hard to tell it's not a real amp.... From what I understand, there's no tube involved in the signal chain right ? Also, a question about tuning : like you I'm using several tunings and you mentioned in the previous video that you were using the device from the Fender to get down one half step or more.... the thing is, each time I've tried this , I noticed 1) my sound tends to become kinda "chemical" 2) some latency might happen with the computer and I always wonder what would be the consequence in a live situation. Of course, the more you stray away from your "real" tuning (like more than one step and a half), the more chemical you sound gets. On the other hand, you can"t get "light" with your rig on the one hand and take 8 guitars on tour ! One thing we tried with one of my previous bands is downtune everything, like we had a target tuning (for instance : standard D or C) and would play every song with that tuning... BUT that can change the vibe of a song completely and some songs written in, say, E standard, simply don't work in D standard, that makes a huge difference. The good thing with Chimaira is that the bullk of your catalogue uses only one tuning, Drop C... wise move !

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  6 місяців тому +2

      Correct- no tubes! With the pitch shifting, I know exactly what you mean. What you're calling "chemical", I refer to as "wobbly" haha.
      And the further away you get from your original tuning, the more wobbly it gets. I was pleased to be able to get away with down tuning two whole steps. Yes, there's a little wobble, but it's not a deal breaker for me. With the latency, I noticed some when I was running the TMP into my interface (via a guitar cable, not USB), but there was zero latency when using it with my cab. I believe the latency with the interface was due to multiple A/D conversions happening, which is why they recommend going straight into your computer via USB, bypassing an interface.

It seemed to start clipping with the main knob juuuust past 12 o'clock, or half way up. But I'm not claiming that quite yet, as it could be my gain staging within the FTPM. I could be overlooking something, and more experimentation is needed. I really wanted to get the SDPS 700, which would definitely be more than enough power for two Peavey Invective cabs, but it wouldn't have fit on my pedal board setup, and it was a sacrifice I chose to make. @@RobArnoldWorldYou can't connect it to another interface via USB. What Fender meant was that you'll get the highest-quality results by using the TMP as your interface, and skipping your other interface altogether. The reason for this is that every time your signal passes through a modeler or an interface, it has to be converted from analog to digital and back to analog again. The TMP does the first conversion, so if you plug the 1/4" outputs of your TMP into another interface, you've now added an extra, unnecessary round of A/D/A conversion into the chain. This can degrade quality somewhat (although it's extremely small with high quality interfaces).

    Given one of the big selling points of this thing is it being the only Official 5150 III Model, I’m surprised you’re not using those. What about the Uber felt closer to the 6505+, over the 5150 III Red or Blue channels?

      That Mesa 5-Band EQ is magical - best when used subtly, but so powerful & very much a Sound Sweetener
      Adding it into my chain & giving it the tiniest V-shape, like you - instant magic

      The two-signal setup is also just INCREDIBLE - Ever since I saw Gojira doing it in 2012, it’s been my ideal setup. I finally got to experiment with it at a small show in August 2022, and everybody adored the sound, and the sound guy was so happy with how simple setup was, as there was already SO MANY microphones onstage for singers & performers. I’m sticking to it as best I can, from now on

    Does the board even need the Seymour Duncan set up? Can the TMP not power the cabs stand alone? If not why not swap over to the 70? It’s blacked out and thinner so should sit straight hopefully?
    This layout is legit, you pretty much sold me on buying this and doing something super similar. Shits awesome man.
    Also any chance of you sharing some of your set ups? Via tone cloud or even just like a video of you showing a set up off.
    Either way sick set up man look forward to seeing more of it! 🤘🏼

      So... lots to unpack here, but here goes!
      So, think of a half stack... There's a head and a cab. The head contains a power amp, and a pre amp.
      The pre amp creates your tone, and the power amp amplifies your tone thru the cabinet.
      The FTMP, and almost all multi-FX processors like the cortex, or the helix, only contain preamps.
      There's enough power within to power studio monitors or headphones, but not nearly enough power to power a cabinet. And so if you want to power cabs, you need a power amp of some kind.
      I'm not sure what you mean about "swapping over to the 70". Do you mean the Seymour Duncan Power Stage 170? If so, yes it is smaller, and would fit better on my pedal board set up, but I feared it wouldn't have enough wattage to power my cabs.
      Honestly, I don't think the SDPS 200 is even powerful enough. I wanted to go with the SDPS 700, but there's no way it would have fit on my setup.
      As for sharing my presets... I'd be happy to, but I haven't yet found a good way to do so. I explored the cloud service thing they have, where dudes can upload and share their presets, but it didn't appear to be what I thought it was. (At least in my initial findings).
      It appears you have to upload each preset individually. I'd like something where I can upload my entire preset bank collection to the cloud in one file, so that dudes can download it and load into their FTMP, and have it all set up exactly like mine.
      This is something I used to do with my Digitech GSP 1101 that I used for years until just recently, when I switched to this new setup.
      I'd simply create file containing all of my units settings, and guys could grab it and upload it into theirs.
      So anyway, perhaps what I want to do is already possible and I just haven't figured it out, or maybe that option will eventually become available.
      If not, perhaps I will make a video with detailed examples/instructions on how to set up yours, just like mine.
      Thanks for tuning in, and good luck with your build!🎸

      @@RobArnoldWorld hell yeah man thanks for the response totally makes sense. I’m so used to powered cabs anymore I forget the legit ones need the full arsenal lol. I’m just a bedroom warrior haha 😂 I currently rock the spark go and an frfr cab/speaker. Works for me for now but plan to upgrade in the future with TMP and better cabinet for sure. Miss feeling that speaker rumble lol.
      And ya I have heard they will be working on some massive updates for functionality and ease of use soon, so hopefully fender is legit and fixes/adds all the things people are requesting. Does seem like a great one stop shop even tho just needs more added to it. And sounds great from your videos so I’m excited and Look forward to the future of it for sure.

    Sorry to darken your comment doorstep again but you might know the answer to this off the top of your head… I have my tmp on my recording desktop, using stereo 1/4” out to go to my audio interface. I’m going to order an FR/10 and feed it with one of the XLR outputs on the tmp but i need to set that to mono out. Can the 1/4” outputs and XLR outputs work simultaneously and can they be configured independently?

Like most modelers nowadays, the TMP can be its own interface, and streams audio straight to your computer via USB.
