Lemme see.... Spaceship filled with horrifying monsters... Those monsters kill people via dismemberment... Soldiers' helmet use fancy tech to recede into the suits.... HOLY SHIT, THIS IS DEAD SPACE WITH GIANT BUGS!
A lot of this reminds me of the Freelancer Saga from the Monty Oum era of Red vs Blue. I know the two franchises have nothing to do with each other, other than how Halo probably took some inspiration from Heinlein's books like a lot of sci-fi series have done and Red vs Blue being adapted from Halo, but the similarity of the action scenes is uncanny. Makes me wonder if the production crew was watching it between shots.
Japan is the world's leading exporter of "Snakes". Half the time its not even on purpose. All artistic depictions designed in the country just automatically turn into a generic anime character and or a Snake...Or occasionally a Pokemon.
yup, just that the book was first and even bungie said they took certain elements from the roughnecks tv show, but yeah this time they took elements from halo
You need to check out the Roughnecks TV series. It's easily the best incarnation of Starship Troopers (aside from the book itself obviously). It's a great fusion of elements from the 1rst movie and the book itself.
Yung Kurama 93 True, but the anime version try to get as close to the novel version. In the book, the Arachnid warrior can shoot out beam, just like in the anime version. But their look doesn't resemble like any arachnid.
Fun fact: The original starship troopers was heavy inspiration for the Gundam franchise. Aside from that I was curious Decker, will you be reviewing the Starship Troopers TV series? Its a fascinating combination of the first movie and the original book. Its also CGI but to be honest I think its the only thing that can match up to the first movie in how awesome it is.... despite the fact they had the budget of a ham sandwich and just adding capers onto it would but them in the red. Still its worth a look at.
Altiar Beezelbub 1979 sounds like first gundam w/ Armaro (april 7th 1979, called mobile suit gundam 0079, wiki) ---- *correction* - misread ur post - starship soilder was published in *1959* - Starship trooper had power armor in *1960* (wiki)
...The Tremors TV series was on Hulu last I checked. Dunno if you subscribe to them, but just in case you wanted to know. Seriously though, it''s been almost a year.
It was called Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles. The animation wasn't that bad, and neither was the characterisation ... but bear in mind this was written, and produced, as a Saturday morning animé, so the level of violence is muted, with no swearing as such, and ofc no nudie shots ala Invasion; also gone is the obvious sarcasim of the orginal films, as is the quazi-nationalistic news intercuts, and tone. What was really good about it, though, was the sense that the Arachnids really were as complex as the three live action films, and the animated one attempted to make them out to be, ala like any social insect, based around a hierarchy, with the Soldier class, more or less, cannon fodder, but with the instinct to invade, and colonise planets, and systems, and control any indigenous life that might be there. From the troopers pov, it was done via a 'inbeded' journalist, who didn't start off being a soldier, but soon is honed into one by the sheer daily grind of the constant warfare. That was another intresting note they got right, imho; what came across was that this wasn't just a Human vs Bug war, but one campaign after another, each campaign lasting many long days on end, which is as close to any cartoon depicting war as a complete grind. As for Rico's promotions, that wasn't as swift ala the first movie, but rather more slow paced, and more to do with his prowess than anything else ... To me, it is up there with Batman: The Animated Series, with Kevin Conroy as Batman, and Mark Hamill as Joker ... I don't know where you can watch it; it isn't on UK Netflix, and I can only find one 'campaign' (i.e., five episodes linked together) on UA-cam... you may have better luck... otherwise get the indivdual season box sets, if you want the extras, or the entire collection of all the episodes, as it exists, without the extras (long story, but suffice to say that the studio executives screwed the pooch on what ought to be the last season, which supposedly led to the bug invasion of Earth ... Google it, if you want to know the whole sorry mess ...)
The final scene (with the warrior arachnid running away by tunnels) makes no sense. The Arachnids arent Xenomorphs, their warriors can't reproduce. So a single escaped bug can't pose any significant threat to Earth.
Where there's one, there will be more? It's more an implied threat. (The new film Traitor of Mars refers to this film and Roci 'letting' Bugs get to Earth)
I'm trying to figure out on how they couldn't get Casper Van Dien for the voice of johnny Rico in this movie, yet they did for Starship Troopers: Traitor Of Mars. Also would be interesting for a backstory on what happened during the bug war for Rico to get an Eyepatch and been promoted to General.

As you may or may not know (can't remember from watching the other reviews), there is still one other Starship Troopers product out there: "Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles". It was a CGI series that aired in syndication back in '99-'00, using the same characters as the first film plus a few other unique ones. In my opinion, despite the fact that it was a 'saturday morning' show aimed at a young audience, it was VERY well written, with good character development/arcs for several of the characters (just google it for yourself). Unfortunately budget constraints forced the makers to cut the show short before it could finish its major storyline: The Bugs invadind Earth (sound familiar? ^_^). As to this one, again I agree with pretty much everything you have said. The anime influence is quite obvious, and I did like the 'twist' of the "Bug Troopers". I wasn't bothered as much by the CGI, but you do have a point that maybe it should have been hand drawn, with discreet CGI used for the bug swarms (that's done a lot with modern anime). Definately the best of the sequels (although its more of a stand alone, since it doesn't seem to be connected to any of the movies, beyond the first in name only). I wouldn't mind seeing a true sequel to this one, or even an actual series in the same vein as "Roughnecks", although I doubt that will ever happen.
all the starship troopers movies (except the Japanese OVA from the 80s) are currently free on Crackle. Oh and starship troopers roughneck chronicles is always available for free on crackle.
Ander Darning roughnecks is no longer on crackle. For a time the Pluto, Hydora, and part of Tophets campaign was on when I saw but now it's been gone for almost all of 2017. I'm just gonna use my renters refund to get the series.

I love it when you do the two Dekers talking to each other. Always kills me. Great review as always and I was just re-watching your other Starship Troopers video the other day. By the way are you ever going to do a review of the Godzilla 1985?
There's a sequel to this that was released not too long ago. Starship Troopers: Traitors of Mars that is also computer animated by the same studio. I think this is the same studio that made those Resident Evil CGI movies and some FInal Fantasy ones too.
Out of curiosity, are you ever going to just do terminator and/or Robocop, or would these have special times like tremors did? r your just not going to do those at all? They just seem like your types of movies but I guess you haven't done them yet?

Believe it or not. There is a sequel to that movie. (from 2017). And that's even better. With (some of the) actors from the original movie returning. Name: Starship Troopers - Traitor of Mars
This movie surprise me to say the least. I Thought it was better than the first 2 sequels and on a border of being better than the first film, though that could be because my love of anime. "Not balanced for single player?" Have to disagree, the game has WAY more bugs on single player. lol
Chris Fields I get it
xD
Also, I really liked this movie. Easily the best of the sequels. Maybe Starship Troopers should be an anime. Or a Metal Gear Solid sequel.
big boss in metal gear crushing swarms of bugs with quiet DD D walker by his side on the fox engine just imagine the greatness
Traitor of mars was good too. cant wait for the 3rd installment
They did make an anime, back in the 80s....

I doubt the original author had any idea how far his book would come in nerd subculture.
Basically it was a novel simply...
No shit. Book and movie are both good in their own right. Very different though.
First movie is loyal to the book in many rights. However the original was very expansive in his thought of the universe.
