When I was a kid in the 70's the family would go to Big Bear often in the winter and it snowed like that all the time!

I lived there in 1989. We had the whole town dug out in three days. Most everyone had a shovel and knew how to use it. When a foot of snow comes, you clear it. Don’t wait for 3-4-5 and let your vehicles get buried. I guess people aren’t that tough anymore.

In New England snow, you keep the car cleared throughout the storm or suffer later and keep paths, stairs and drive cleared. Five siblings, we would so it in shifts with parents, never stopped til cleared. Best wishes to SoCal learning the way

There's nowhere I'd rather NOT be than anywhere in the South in 83* heat. I live in the highest-altitude town in Oregon and the colder and wetter, the better! We're no tourist town, no townies just plain country folks. Car's buried, we're snowed in and relying on what's stored up. No one even mentions the weather. I truly hope the people trying to endure at Big Bear are stocked up and snuggled down.

@@lamanley hey there lamanley. I just want to say thank you for your comment and I know how you feel. My father lives in North Florida and used to live near Macon Georgia and I’m telling you when I would golf out there with my dad. I would literally drink a huge bottle of water almost every hole on the golf course and wouldn’t have to use the restroom once because I would sweat it all out. The humidity is ridiculous and usually we don’t get this much snow. Usually it’s a Perfect winter season hear about 60 to 80” per year.
But thank you very much for sharing your comment and I love Oregon. I spent time in Bend Oregon when I was young doing in Outward Bound wilderness excursion. It was supposed to be a punishment, but it was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.

Hope you’re stocked up for it. If you need anything don’t hesitate to knock on the neighbors door. People take care of each other in Big Bear. I used to own a 2nd home there. Got snowed in the blizzard of 1989. We had a few family members visiting, so it turned into being a lot of fun. Making up things to do, playing games. Yes, our cars were huge lumps of snow just like you’re showing. It was walk or stay put. When we finally got sun and clear skies, it was time to dig out and get off the hill. I was very nervous only having poles to tell me where the road was. But the beauty of the winter wonderland was something I’ll never forget.

If it snowed like this every year I’d get snowmobiles. It’s hard being stuck off the mountain and only able to see your videos or my ring cameras. The snow is higher than my fences in my front yard.

We used to have a cabin a little lower (Crestline area) which is also majorly snowed in. Had good memories up there sledding in the snow as a kid, catching my first ever trout at Lake Gregory back in the 70's, and riding dirt bikes up there. Epic, historic amount of snowfall...just heard the roof at Goodwins Market (in Crestline) collapsed!? Keep up the great work on your videos and stay safe!

Nice. Used to be routine for me in Montreal Canada during the 20 plus years I lived there. City has massive equipment to clear roads, sidewalks. Things keep moving there. I had snow blower. Shovel, snow clearing equipment, in the car too. Always able to get in the car, even when the car was fully covered with snow.

Like most people here in the L.A. area, I look up and see the snow on the mountain tops and think how nice it looks, but I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to be up there trying to navigate through this situation. And it took forever for Newsom to take this seriously and start sending in help. Then, this morning, I heard on the radio that the roofs had collapsed on two of the grocery stores up there. Hopefully, there's a light at the end of the tunnel now as food, equipment and personnel have begun to arrive in the area.

We live in Big Bear and though we got all this snow, the city got dug out pretty quickly. We are way better off than Crestline. Our stores have plenty of food and the gas stations are getting fuel. When you know a storm is coming, you park your car in the driveway nearest the road (allowing about 4’ for snow plows) then you get out there and shovel the snow from around your car and off of it as it accumulates so it doesn’t get buried!!! We had to do this about 8 times during this storm and guess what? Our cars never got buried. Be prepared. We all knew this was coming.
You are smart. I keep thinking about Alaska especially people living Off-Grid. This would not even affect them as they would be Shoveling every day to prevent 8-10 feet of snow blocking them in. But again, I'm a Southern California Weather Wimp myself so i would never Judge anyone... Plus the news probably scare the resident to "Stay inside during Blizzard".

We also used to have a cabin in Crestline and summered in Big Bear as a preteen. This storm has been something else in ALL of California. Hoping the National Guard and other first responders can get you guys dug out and get supplies!
