If this is the Kilburn gig, i was right up front, completely mesmerised by this angelic vision singing before me. She was very nervous I remember, kept pulling at her fingers in a kind of anxiety. I came away feeling blessed that I'd witnessed something very very special. I was mid-twenties at the time but I knew even then that this was one of my life's sweetest moments....
It is a complete nonsense to say that her voice is too weak for a live environment. I saw them in Liverpool on this tour and she played the whole concert from start to finish with unfaltering perfection.
I believe Dif Juz were the support act for that gig and they also gave an amazing performance. I have the recording for that and been looking for the CT one for a while. Great set list too for this era.
I still have this bootleg cd I've been into the twins since I was 85-86 saw them in the states in 90' and again 94' then saw Robin Guthrie on his luminere' tour and got to meet him before his set and he was just so humble and got to thank him for the soundtrack of my life I am so blessed
Lovely version of Lazy Calm, with the Dif Juz saxophonist playing...It's beautiful. I wish I'd seen them this early, the first time I saw them was 1990 (and again in 94).... brilliant both times 💜
Victorialand isn't merely the best Cocteau Twins album. In my opinion, it's one of my top ten favorite albums of all time. One of my desert island discs. I've been collecting records since the early 60s. I'll tell you a funny story about this album: when I first bought it, I played it at 33 1/3 on my turntable and thoroughly enjoyed it! Then I read in Rolling Stone that they recorded it at 45 rpm for better fidelity. Wow! what a difference! To get this gem of a show is a rare treat.
Ahh! That sax is revelatory. I remember buying Love's Easy Tears and since it didn't say to play it at 33 or 45, I played it both ways. I was floored. Not only, was I already obsessed with their music, I would sit there shocked that a band would consciously think of making an album that was beautiful at both speeds. Mind-blowing. Now, I'm not so convinced that they intended this, but then again I wouldn't put past them. Anyway, I actually love the 33 version of Tears. It's not just Liz with a male voice, but it sounds more tragic. If you wanted to imagine a possible male vocal in front of Simon and Robin, you might check it out, and it might satisfy that curiosity.
Wow this is like my dream lineup. Oh to have been there! I can’t even imagine. I wouldn’t even be able to handle it. Liz is particularly on point in this show.
They band played three London shows on this 1986 tour. Two dates at the Town & Country Club on the 16th and 17th November and one at the Kilburn National Ballroom on the 18th of November. The recording uploaded here that you are listening to is from the Kilburn show. Interestingly, a lot of the pauses between the songs and the general audience chatter has been removed from the original audience recording making this a slightly abridged version, but much improved in sound quality and all the songs are complete. A lovingly restored show, well done CocteauBuff, this is a superb remaster. One to "Treasure" no less!
...very very very very beautiful and gorgeous....amazing and wonderful....divine music....perfet...faultless....unique....unparalleted.....universal....real....
Well, I have to agree - Liz's vocals are truly spectacular and moving. She's at the top of her game here, and the band is just wonderful. Oh, to have been there! But as a second best, this is a great gift. Many thanks for it.
One of the cleanest works of art in restoration and production I've heard, this is so sound perfect that it captures every nuance it seems CocteauBuff. The texture of the band behind Liz's vocals are balanced and paced, allowing her to capture live on this occasion a very close semblance to the sound of the studio and album. No one could doubt her talent after hearing this recording session before an enraptured audience! Of special note is the reprise/encore of Sugar Hiccup at the end, she is ending the set and seems to have really relaxed, which is when she was at her best performing. It must be a challenge to preserve the vocal cords when singing across several octaves, which she does beautifully.
The Cocteaus at their best ever. I've never heard the original CD, but your version sounds really good. You must have done a hard job on it. Thanks from my heart for posting it.
i loved the epherial and beautiful melodic stuff made by prog bands like Yes Floyd Genesis Tan.Dream etc but they're 80s' conversion to pop ( Floyd politics) drove me to "indie" & in hearing " Treasure" then Head Over Heels then Victorialand, my ears and mind were at least more than compensated. How on earth that a nation which has given the world so many famous musical acts hasn't in general., heard of the CC. I despise all brainwash but endevour to get their sound into my 17yr daughters conciousness and maybe spread it. Thankyou uploader for re producing this works of pure beauty - love from the swanky new forest
I saw them at the Town and Country Club, Kentish Town, London around this time ... is this that gig? They certainly opened with Lazy Calm and I remember Elizabeth thanking Richard (Dif Juz). The gig was a 4AD showcase ... Throwing Muses also played, Cocteau Twins were on last - best gig of my life!
Uh, that's never going to happen. They briefly talked about getting together a few years ago for a show at Coachella but Liz backed out (as is her option) saying it was too much for her to go back there. They are amazing and, like the Knife, will live on in our hearts, our heads and our ears.
Houston caught my attention in your post. Saw them in Houston 1991 for the heaven or las vegas tour. if they never tour again, i'm glad i got to see them.
It's surprising it would be on the "Love's Easy Tears" tour because they play just 2 tracks out of it (out on 4 !!!). Where are "Those Eyes, That Mouth" and "Orange Appled", two of their best songs ever and peaks of their E.P. ????
Although they have many great albums after this time period , this is (in my opinion) the Cocteau Twins at the height of their powers. The music and singing sounds just as good as on the studio albums and there's no weird experimentation by Liz Fraser on the vocalizing like in the later years live shows.
Elizabeth Fraser's Slideshow, Remasters c/o Robin Guthrie & Raymonde Love's Easy Tears. SIMON signifies a new clear chemistry amongst three. Cocteau Twins breaks on through the digital "darklands" beginning 1986 promptly inspired by DISCoveries since Lorelei¿?⁉
This was nice. But I wonder why they did they did Sugar Hiccup twice...? Could have finished on Those Eyes, That Mouth and that would have been a killer ending to a great set.
Love's Easy Tears is absolutely killer.
my thought too

@@garyread5274 agree! I was there too, can't even forget her haunting voice and how fast my heartbeat through the whole night

@@markkilyes, remember these guys, they have a track too on Lonely Is An Eyesore, brill 4AD comp.

Wow what a set list. By far the cleanest vocals I've heard on a CT concert from that era.

Glad I'm not the only one who did that!
Ha ha! I did that too and listened to a taped version on cassette at 33 rpm for a year in my car before I saw the "45" on the record label...
Me too. LOL.
Well, I guess a LOT of us did that. A very rare accomplishment that an album could be played at both speeds and sound great!
Yup, me too. And like you, thoroughly enjoyed it.

sugar hiccup is a phenominal version thanks for posting
22:18- Love's Easy Tears is incredible

wow. this show must have been awesome. twins in their prime for sure.
Rarely performed songs on here I think. A real treasure.

Excellent, so beautiful. I'm also crying... For my lost youth.
Fu&&@ing unbelievable! How fortunate that this was captured 🙏🏽
Que Maravilla!! Bese a mi esposa con Hitherto por primera vez hace 34 años
Victorialand song with drums f-yeah

holy shit she's good! voice is amazing.. band also equally amazing
absolutly glorious! the way i remember there sound in the 80s.
WOW! I've never heard Liz's voice with such emotion. My love paramour interpretation is from another dimension
I was lucky to be able to pick up a copy of this on Ebay before they all disappeared. This is the Twins at their peak performance!

great and OMG - Love's Easy Tears sounds phenomenal here! (other tracks do too, obviously.. Liz was on top of her game no doubt)

My God!!! Everything was so beautiful there...and Liz voice??? Wonderful!! Tks for sharing

stumps03 I was there too, it was life changing. The bass guitar on My Love Paramour rattled my bones.
I want them to revisit Houston. my sister and I met them on the four calender cafe tour. our lives forever matter.gina

I was at that gig and it was definitely 1986. Best gig of my life too even though some clown threw a pint in the air and most of it landed on me.
MARVELLOUS!

Thank you for sharing. Liz is absolutely flawless here.
Killer recording! Cocteaus at a truly inspired night, amazing setlist indeed.
I love that instrumental! Thanks so much for posting this!

Thank you!

so beautiful...
thanks
Does anybody know if the instrumental appears in any recording/album?
Lazy Calm, Hitherto, Sighs Smell Of Farewell, My Love Paramour, Sea Swallow Me, Plain Tiger, Love's Easy Tears, Instrumental (that is NOT 'My Hue and Cry' OR 'Rococo'!), Sugar Hiccup, Pearly Dewdrops' Drops, Pink Orange Red, Aikea Guinea, Sugar Hiccup (Encore)
This was nice. But I wonder why they did they did Sugar Hiccup twice...? Could have finished on Those Eyes, That Mouth and that would have been a killer ending to a great set.
Sugar hiccup Cheerios! I know Liz says something else, but I'll was remember that song that way. Sorry.
Sugar hiccup ON cheerios!
I was on a mushroom this gig, I honestly thought I was going to die.
steve shadforth "...a mushroom" like a single mushroom?
The eighties.
The instrumental sounds like the precursor of Fotzepolitic, especially the outro.
+Anthony Hall Is it a differnet version of 'My Hue and Cry'?.
Is the remaster available anymore? The mediafire links have all expired. I have the original CD but would love to hear it.
Coming soon, I just posted BBK in the fileshare
26:30
Magical isn't it?
Oh its a kinda Punk but with too much pedals, chorus, echoes and reverbs ...it is Proto Shoegaze?... Yes , they WERE COCTEAU TWINS....
No songs from Treasure? Big mistake!
Nah. Treasure is great but also feel by 1986 they had already surpassed it and were in full unbreakable stride at this point.
so beautiful...
thanks
