What is remarkable about Bela Lugosi's Dead is that besides being the first Goth song it's also a hybrid of Dub and Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd. Daniel Ash's guitar sounds so much like Syd's guitar from 1967 it's uncanny. From these two unlikely bedfellows Goth is born. UNDEAD, UNDEAD, UNDEAD!

Goth is considered an offshoot of Post Punk so to me it makes more sense to think of Goth as originating in the late 70s. Bauhaus sounded Goth and just as importantly looked Goth. I saw a Bauhaus tribute band perform it in the late 80's at what must have been 33bpm (sorry, can't remember the name of the band). The vocals were bang-on Peter Murphy. The rest was hyper-gothic awesomeness. Yes, I love the original release; and the original 12" release *THE MOST,*but they were freaking awesome! Much respect!
I remember seeing a write up they had just got a new drum machine and they found if they pushed the settings the machine would randomly make these weird skippy noises. So they played around with it for a few hours and from that came this song.

A Masterpiece of Goth!
A combination of Actifed Compound Linctus, Magic mushrooms GLUE BAGS and purple micro dots helped shape the late 70's early 80's goth scene in the UK.

No, your attention span is too short. Like everyone else's today.
nah the 9 minute version is simply better, I;ve listened to plenty of 30+ minute songs
The best song ever recorded is 'My Destiny - My Faith' by Tentacle and it's over 20 minutes long. 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' is very good too.
I don't remember all the knob twisting on the delay on the original album.
