Had one of these for 12 months, and spent 4 months touring Europe in her in 2019. One of the best designs, builds, and vans I have ever owned. Would love to have another!
That’s amazing to hear, I would love to get one to renovate
You should do an international version of this. A season in the U.S. A season in Australia. A season in Japan, etc. The U.S and Japan would probably have the strangest vehicles and locations for you.
Will I am sorry I am behind on your video you need some sukozies black blackout curtains they are sold in Canada but they cover the windows to the T

I love these old retro campers, there’s something about them thats just so comforting and relaxing than the modern day ones, hope you’re ok will mate 🙏🍻
I honestly think they will be worth a fortune soon
@@NotaHuskywolf some of them are worth a fortune now , especially the VWs
My grandparents (mothers side) had a 644 Mercedes Hymer with a dually in the rear (dont remember model precisely). We used to go fishing in Sweden alot in my younger years with it. Then later when my grandparents wanted to buy a new one, my parents offered to buy it and got it. My parents drove it for about 4 summers, one time I got to follow them on a roadtrip around Åland (largest island between Sweden & Finland). That was the last time I saw it driving on the roads. Now it's our little summerhome at my grandparents (fathers side) villa/cottage.
2 major problems we had with it on the road where:
- Hydraulic pump for the clutch gave way and was very difficult to fix, it's now fixed.
- Handbrakes dont work no matter how much time we've put into it. Which is why it is now in "hybernation".
Ive got the 660 had it 21years been to quite a few European countries with it ,wouldn't be without it
Lovely retro motor home.
All it needed was Will wearing some 10 inch flares and a flowery shirt to get the ambience right.
😂😂😂
Enjoyable as always.
😂 next time
I'm 'retro' 😂 and you're around 10 years out with the flares and flowery shirt..Will should have had some stone- washed ripped jeans and a bomber jacket on 😉😄
That is such a cool motorhome! Brilliant for the age. Perfect for a few weekends and short breaks away. Proper retro
100%, absolutely loved it
Love this motor home. Looks cosy and good for it's age 😍
It really is!
These old Hymers are great. I have one of the bigger ones, a tag axle, from that era. Great thing to tour about in.
Hi Will, I love the vintage camper van , so much space, it’s a lovely home on wheels. I would rate it at 4/5 for everything. It’s got pretty much everything you need on board, thank you Will for another cracking video. All the best 🤟🏼✌️👍❤️
Thanks Catherine and I definitely agree, it’s got everything you need and super practical
Im so happy i found you ive never laught so much with all your antics my family had blue n white vw campervan in the 60s 70s traveled all over England from the north east Scotland one year down Devon n Cornwall where my dads sister lived all we needed was a river and our blow up boat happy days ❤
Love the Hymer, nice and wide, plenty of space to walk around. Plus loads of storeage😊
I’ve recently found your channel & it has become my favorite. I love your sense of humor & I can’t wait for the next video.
7:05 - you forgot to pre-heat, it's an old Diesel and he likes his Rudolf-Diesel minute-of-silence.
The led light on the ceiling really rock it
I've a Hymer 1991 B644 on a fiat base, 2.5td and only had it 18 years , always wild camp in it sometimes a campsite. Amazing vans. You should check out Classic Hymer group the most friendly group you'll ever meet. I did smile at your driving it's just a sideways gear stick. Mine will cruse along on the factory fitted cruise control on the motorway all day long , only just back last month from a 1200 mile trip from Europe one way. Quite good for long road works in Germany at 50 km an hour, gives the engine a breather I always think.😊
We had a Commer Caravanette in the early 80’s - that was probably 15 years old when we got it and as a kid - I loved it. If you can get one of those that would be a great experience
Staying in same model 18mth now love it great van faultless
Love this series, love your enthusiasm.
Thanks Gill
omg I love the colone gear shift... I learnt to drive in a pick up truck with these gears, they are so the best....love it.
It was so much fun to drive a vehicle with gears like this
Hi Will I've only just discovered your channel and have seen about 3_= of your programs so far you come across as someone with a great sence of humour with a passion for Motorhomes and Caravans I enjoyed watching the programs I did see hope to see some more of these videos
I thought I recognised the roads. Portsdown Hill if I’m not mistaken. Knowing it as I do, the idea of sleeping there, let alone cooking there was incredibly brave of you 👏🏻
It’s certainly a place I’m not going back to 😂
Do an overnight in a truck/lorry :))
I’ll see what I can do 😊
A smart person owns this camper they labeled the switches. It's a nice camper for its age that I wouldn't mind owning. I am just not a fan of the bed over the cab I am 6'2" and will be hitting my head on it. it will be annoying to have to duck every time I want to drive. But it is a neat feature. Remember every one be kind to your Neighbors treat others how you want to be treated and not show up at 4:30 in the morning being loud. poor will needs his beauty sleep. And thank God this vehicle had a indoor shower especially with others around.
It’s a great classic camper for sure that I found to be super practical and easy to use
God dam I’m loving this series Will. Bring on more and more please.
More to come mate
A great look round from a modern perspective. A good learning experience for you too, from a driving point of view. It probably didn’t start first time because you didn’t cycle the glow plugs - you need to switch the key to ‘run’ and then wait for the yellow glow plug light to go out, and only then try to start. It’s an old diesel thing. And I found it funny that you noticed it wouldn’t go into 1st while rolling - this is also an old vehicle thing, I’ve never had a car or van that would do it, and it’s due to a weaker/less effective synchromesh on 1st
Love it! Great way to end my birthday.. winding down watching this cheers will! 💙
Thanks Sarah and happy birthday
@@WillsWhereabouts thank you! X
I love this set up. Other than the bathroom that needs a better set up for the shower. And noisy neighbours. But, with the number of people now living off grid it will be awhile yet before the noise dies down. Some people are off grid for economic reasons. However a large number are off grid because it is currently trendy. It was the same in the 50’s&60’s. Men coming back from overseas starting families. It was a more economically way to have a vacation.
Always enjoy your vids, right from your car camping days, must be honest i do love the shorts 😍
What a beautiful old motorhome it has more in that than the new one ,most enjoyable, nice one WILL
Cheers John
I own exacte the same and also 1989! And everthing is stil original and works. Love it and pure quality
The quality is amazing on these
Loved this Will, keep up the good work. Really enjoy watching you review these quirky vans. Hope you've caught up on your beauty sleep 😅
Haha thanks Kathy
Another classic video from ya Will, when you have a classic to show its guaranteed. cheers
Cheers 🍻
@0:58 The one piece curved windshield ...will make a grown Man Cry when it cracks and must be replaced !!!
Seen them replaced in the field with like 5 Technicians ...
Just saw your Citroen camper video, and had to subscribe.... Looking forward to watching all the previous videos 👍🏾🫶🏾
I owned a hymer b544 for 3 years left hooker and column change, great solid vans it never let us down, sold it and bought a swift which was nothing but trouble
Brilliant, well done! I got very confused with the left driving on the wrong side of the road, or whatever, uhh... hihi.
I had never seen a retro Hymer like this, thanks for showing us the perks, the bathroom is a gem for sure 🤓😀
Thanks, it’s an amazing classic vehicle for sure
You finally got me Will,,I have never seen this RV before ,,But what a cool one ! The Germans have always built such cool vehicles ! My dad was a senior Process engineer for VW And he always talked about the super builds they did ! Very cool sir ! Thanks for sharing .
Really is a very good quality build
Great video! 👍 Love the Hymer. As an aside I think I may have been parked next to you in the NEC car park Wednesday last week!? I was in a grey Fifer Touring while my other half was in the motorhome show. Had to do it in relay as we had our dog in the van 😂
I’ve never heard someone say “actually” so much within 17 minutes.
I actually agree 😂
😅
Good old wagons. Very well built unlike some lesser makes.
Hi Will nice motor home, awesome scenic views ,sorry your rest got interrupted some people have no consideration for others ,thanks for sharing stay safe
No worries Sonia, all part of van life
That gear stick was normal in a 1980's Fiat Ducato/Peugeot or Citroën Van.
Brings back memories when I drove a 1991 Fiat Ducato, that was the way to shift gears.
I really enjoyed driving this I just say
You taking that shot was so funny 😂😂😂 I must of watched it over a 100 times lol
😂😂
I’d love something like this in my life. 😍 it’s amazing!
Great video as always, great to see this end of the country
Thanks Gary
LHD in the UK really isn’t an issue. I drive a RHD Land Rover camper around Europe and it really isn’t a issue, the odd junction can be difficult but you just position the vehicle so you can see or use your passenger as a spotter.
Great video Will love the retro Hymer.
Cheers Nigel
Basically a 3 on the tree old school manual transmission that’s awesome. What a neat motorhome the bathroom is really interesting considering the age of the unit.
It was a great Motorhome and even more fun to drive
Happy to see a new video from U,kinda love that old Motor home.😎😎😎😎
You and me both!
Ive just got back from Romania. I hired a car out there. 1st time in a left hand drive, it was ok until i had to change gear. Then i nearly opened my door. Took a bit of geeting used. 😂
😂😂
Oh Will, I was so excited about this week’s video after reading your weekly email and spotting from the picture you were finally in Portsmouth! (I only live 5mins from the park up and would have been great to meet you) I’ve been longing for you to come and park up on Portsdown Hill for a while and I was really excited that you could experience the view up there, but was ever so disappointed that it let you down, it’s such a shame you didn’t get a great night sleep. I really hope you can give it another try sometime soon. Anyway thanks for a great video. 👍🏻
Thanks Chris, I’m sure I’ll be back soon enough for another visit
nice meeting you at the Italian bistro at the nec on Monday, keep up the good word
Thanks John, great to meet you too
A lovely classic retro camper 😎😎
🔥🔥🔥
Cheers Will...you ARE THE Renaissance Man!!! I love the addition of some good old fashion T&A in your vlogs...love when you channel your "On the Continent" inner-self, you sexy man....Austin Powers...eat your heart out! (I hope Ben can control himself!) PS...this Hymermobil is the BEST vehicle you have ever reviewed to date! OMG, that parking spot has got to be the best dogging spot in Home counties!!! I am retired with zero fucks and zero money, but I became a Patreon because you are the most fun of all the 86 UA-camrs I follow!
Really enjoyed this 1 well put together can't wait for the nxt 1
Glad you enjoyed it
The drone shots with that music will always give me antiques road trip show vibes i love it haha
Love that!
I'm showing my age now, but in New Zealand we called the gear arrangement. Column change.
loved this one Will..and the icing on the cake was you overlooking Pompey! ..shame you didn't show the beautiful night view though x
Certainly a great view but very popular and noisy
Willllll, my man, you are such a hottie! I love your videos! only one a week is not enough! we need more Will in his shorts!! Keep them coming! :)
Good review LOVELY MOTORHOME. Nicer inside than outside bigger than expected it has everything I need
It really is!
The camper looked great and did everything it should do.apart from the knob neighbours that made noise at 4am in the morning 🤣🤣
In the UK the gear leaver was called a "Colum change"
Hey Will love watching your channel. Saw your trip in the VW T2 which broke down and would love to offer you the use of our T3. Which is reliable but being 35 yrs old who knows. It is quirky as it has been build to be very different from the outside. It does have a heater to keep you warm at night. It's called Moose Piwss. Also known as Puple Moose. We are based in beautiful South Wales 🏴
Thanks so much Karen, your van sounds amazing! Send me an email or message to will@willswhereabouts.com please
You certainly know how to put on a nice spread. It looks good enough to eat.
It was delightful
It had a cool retro look to it, I quite like the shape of it 😎👍
It’s a very quirky looking vehicle
Bloody Brilliant !!!!!
We had the exact same cup holders in our 2020 Georgetown Motorhome :)
Such a good little touch
i want one will. great vid pal,, 80's rock !!!!
It’s such a cool van
this is what I used to go on vacation with!!!
Very nice older camper. Nice working that commercial into the video too. :)
Thanks 👍
I loved the beds location. Proper space saver 😏😄
It really is
Brilliant! Older than you i think Will! Like my 24 year old Swift 490 SE caravan. Old but solid lol. All the best always look forward to Sunday night upload. David & Orla🐶
Old but gold so they say and this one certainly fits the bill
great Vvlog will love the 80's van
Thanks
Will, I can't believe you came to Portsmouth!! You were only about 10 minutes away from me, if I'd have known it would have been great to meet you. Love the videos, keep up the great work man!
Next time matey 😊
One of my neighbors up here in Scotland has this and it's really cool. Their's name is Bertha lol
Lovely classic retro vehicle
Looking good 🙂
We called that kind of shifter in 🇺🇸 three on the tree.
13:04 It’s hugh Hefner! 😂
😂😂😂
You didn’t see his other half dressing gown still hanging at the door
Тот случай, когда старый вэн лучше многих новых.
12:51 brushing teeth and sitting on the loo 👌 that's handy Jonghù
It’s the new done thing now days
Love these vans . Great video buddy . I’d have been out that van in me boxers holding spoons . Yerrrr spooks can you imagine what they would think
I like driving a stick (USA) but never had one that was on the steering column but then I'm referring to cars.
They kept it in good nick. Gfeat stuff!
watching van videos before sleep is my favorite activity😂 you being funny and s3xy is another + 🤪
The joys of portsdown hill at night
Won’t be going there again 😂
Looks as comfy as hell.
Loving this motor home
Fab camper love the big plush driving seat 😂. Your videos are super good now just wish they were longer. Xx
😊 thank you
Ah you're overlooking my hometown, I live just by the beach. It's a right of passage for every Pompey teenager/young adult going up the hill for a Mick's monster burger sitting in your car with a silly loud exhaust 😂
If you come back, Port Solent will probably be a better park up for peace, although you wouldn't get the views! In the winter its free to park overnight along the seafront 😉
Thanks for the info Amy, I’ll give the other park up a try next time for a better nights sleep hah
The left-hand drive had to be fun on those tight roads
It really was hah, I got used to it quickly
Aw I live near here xx we have a talbot express harmony van it's a 1992 h reg xx
That’s epic, would love to check it out
Love these Hymers, there's so much usable space and brilliant that you don't have to make the bed up if you are just 2 up. I currently have a deposit on a 2005 version which is a bit more modern, but before all of the emissions nonsense started on the engines. Hopefully it will be serviceable for a good few years!
U are so funny . Love watching you. . Looking forward to to your next one
Cheers Betty, plenty more to come
Neat camper, glad you got to try LHD. But if you're going to be laying like that, fluff up the, uh, pillows a bit first.
So much space. Love it, better then that cramped VW BUZZ, that was about 80.000.
Certainly a big money saving
There are probably more old 80s ducatos and other vans remaining as RVs than stock xD
We live in Norway and had the slightly newer version of this, a 2003 model and the setup was still the same just updated and we loved it! I've now changed to boats now but if we go back it will be another Hymer
