- In this video I demonstrate how to tie the Double lanyard knot, also called the Double knife lanyard knot, the Diamond knot, Bosun's whistle knot or Bosun's lanyard knot. The number of different names indicates it was used across several cultures and trades.
The knot is also demonstrated in The Ashley book of knots as #788.
The knot can be used as a bulkier or different looking lanyard knot.
The basic (single) lanyard knot is tied this way:

This is the best double diamond knot tutorial ever!
Thanks. What elevates this tutorial over the others is showing the actual structure of the knot- instead of saying "this goes here, that goes under there", you reveal the structure of the knot and WHY the cord follows a certain pattern when it's tied.
I got re-interested in knot tying while trying to remember the "Marlinspike Seamanship" I learned in the US Navy - it's been a lot of fun. Anyway, I just want to thank you for the excellent videos that you post here on UA-cam. The narration is very clear, and each knot is broken down into easily understood steps. And the pace is perfect (for me, at least), not too fast/not too slow. Thank you very much, Mark!

The minimum length needed to tie this knot with paracord is 21 inches / 53.34 centimeters to end up with a 4 inch / 10.16 centimeter long lanyard. I tightened in reverse to that there would be short ends that were heat fused together with a lighter so they would be flush with the knot. You may want to double check the centimeter dimensions I used an online converter to get those numbers. Couldn't have done it without this video. Hope this helps.

I dont understand this knot. it shows in the abok that you put the ends through the middle at the start but on your video you do it completely differntly this makes no sense
