Ecoflow Delta 1300 Review - How to Manage the Unit During a Power Outage! What to Run/For How Long?

  • Side Note:
    There is a Delta 2 now available. I think it's a much better unit than this one, not that this one is bad! It works fine! But.... You can learn more about it here...
    amzn.to/3DxUuir
    In this video, I show how to understand the watt hours available to you in the Delta 1300 so that you can better manage and ration the available watt hours should the power go out.
    I have been told that the AC outlets have been corrected on the newer units.
    NOTE: My new Delta 1300 (retail version) has a 1260Wh battery, but the math still works out the same... 1260 x 80% efficiency = 1008 usable watt hours... So, I still just add a zero to the SOC to see the actual watt hours available for me to use. I tested it a second time and it went to 83% but that is only about 50Wh more... still add the zero!
    NOTE: They corrected the AC upside down outlet on the new models.

    The main reason that I wanted this generator was because of how FAST it charges. Now that I went through the Texas rolling blackouts (see my videos on this), It did prove to be the most important reason for buying it. Every time the power came back on, it would fully charge.

    Sir, the tip you gave starting at 4:16 is absolutely brilliant! I had been trying to work out a way to calculate the roundtrip cost of this power station without having to resort to arithmetic. Your suggestion is spot on! Leads me to believe that the folks who chose a random quantity like 1260Wh when designing this unit did so on purpose because they factored in the roundtrip cost. Thank you! Sub'd.

      I have not checked the average watts used on this fridge because I am afraid to unplug it and plug in my kilowatt meter. We have had a lot of problems with it and want to leave well enough alone until we get another fridge. I need to know how much it uses before I can estimate how long the Delta will last. I will post a comment on under the video once I check our new fridge. Sorry. Just remember, though, if a fridge is rated, say 800 watts, that doesn't meant that is what it uses per hour. It will be significantly less because the motor cycles off and on all the time. I know the Delta can handle any surge on this fridge.

    Hi Prepper. Thanks for the great video and educating people on the efficiency. Are you using only AC or DC for these efficiency percentages? I assume AC. I have one of these and in my supplies I have tried to stock things that run on DC. The DC efficiency should be above 85%. The reason is that it would do DC to DC conversion for those things. So my DC supplies include USB 5v charger for the phone, LED strips that can run off 12 v DC to light the house and 12v radios. Of course it is harder to find DC fridges and freezers but they exist(for those that live out of their RV). Anyway, just some more info for those that may not know the Delta will give more total watt hours if only running DC things.

    • @LoneStarPrepping
      @LoneStarPrepping  4 роки тому +1

      Very good point! DC is the way to go if you are set up for that, but I think most people want to be able to use the AC things they already have around the house... And of course, DC to charge their phones etc...

    • @Trillville43
      @Trillville43 4 роки тому

      DC is usually 90% to 95% while AC is usually within 85% to 87% I thought on these type of devices? You really didn't need the adapter just flipped the plug.

    • @LoneStarPrepping
      @LoneStarPrepping  4 роки тому

      @@Trillville43 Nope. You need the adapter. There may be a way to take the unit apart and flip the outlet around... Ecoflow offered a solution to the problem with the unit... They offered to send out an adapter. If "flipping" my plug around would work, they would have suggested it. They didn't because flipping it wont work. You are correct about other types of devices like this are in a range of around 85% efficiency on AC, but this one is not.

    Please help me with some math here: in an extended power outage, all you have is solar. If you have 4 - 100 watt panels, that produces 400 watts in theory, figure 320 watts in practice (on a sunny day). Figure 320 watts X 6 hours of sunlight = 1,920 watt-hours, That will hopefully be enough to fully recharge the Delta, and a partial recharge on a 12 volt car battery. Connect the car battery to an inverter (with fuse and circuit breaker), and you have a second power source. Or, you could charge up the Delta from this other setup. What do you think?

      Joe Blow - The 60% after 800 cycles is a conservative estimate which anticipates Full cycles from full to empty. That seldom happens AND if you use power near it's upper capacity of 1800 watts. If you are nice to the battery by keeping it's charge between 30 and 80% , not pulling 1800 watts from it for extended periods of time but rather lower loads, the battery will last a long long long time ! !
