    "lens variety or quality" should be a category.

    • @IanHobday
      @IanHobday 3 роки тому +7

      "Ecosystem" or even better "native ecosystem" should be a category for sure. A body isn't useful without glass and it's best served by native glass.

    • @vikmanphotography7984
      @vikmanphotography7984 3 роки тому +17

      @@IanHobday honestly, some of the non-native Sony glass is better than the native stuff. Same for EF Canon glass.
      But I mentioned lens variety to include more affordable options because not many people are willing to spend 2k per native mount lens just because that's the only option in a given focal length. Canon's 50mm 1.2 is great but it's not the right choice for most people. They'd be better served by a cheaper, smaller 1.8 or something

    • @IanHobday
      @IanHobday 3 роки тому +5

      @@vikmanphotography7984 By "native" I mean using the native protocols, not reverse engineered. Sony licenses their mount and protocols to Tamron and Sigma which is one of the reasons their E mount lenses are so awesome. The new Sigma 85/1.4 DG DN is a great example, I can't wait for them to bring out more DG DN primes!

    • @vikmanphotography7984
      @vikmanphotography7984 3 роки тому +1

      @@IanHobday took Sigma a while but they managed to reverse engineer EF protocols really well towards the end. And idk what samyang/rokinon is doing in terms of licensing vs reverse engineering but *everything after their first few AF lenses work great (stay away from the 50 and 35 1.4 lenses)

    • @IanHobday
      @IanHobday 3 роки тому +6

      @@vikmanphotography7984 The difference is that Canon and Nikon actively work against the 3rd party makers and try to break compatibility. This is why you see things like Sigma's USB dock and the USB ports in some lens mounts. They have to be able to upgrade firmware to maintain functionality. It's very anti-consumer for Canon and Nikon to behave like this and such a nice change to see Sony doing licensing deals.
      Samyang/Rokinon and Viltrox make some interesting stuff but the reliability isn't there yet.

      Bought one in December, to replace my 2014 D810 and gotta say; really loving it ! And loved the fact that they kept the ergonomics pretty much the same as older F-mount (you miss a dedicated AF mode selector+button & metering button but you can remap them to FN 1,2 or the record button in stills mode) dSLR's. Made the switch to mirrorless very easy.

    Did my own side-by-side test for a couple of months late last year when moving from Fuji to FF for professional work. Not with the R5, but incl. the SL2. I choose the Z7II (tested the Z7 though). I’m shooting mostly fashion and (make-up) portraits and in terms of image quality the Z7 was simply the best. The Sony may have a few more mp’s, but the beautiful color reproduction and tonality of the Z7 was key. You can’t test these cameras without knowing which lenses you need. The Nikkor Z glass might not be the most spectacular in terms of fast apertures, but all the lenses I used (incl. the 50 and the 85 f1.8) are fantastic for stills. The Z7 EVF might be only 3.69 mp, I much preferred it over the Sony. Next to an uncluttered view, it gives beautiful natural colors and a crisp and large view esp. for people wearing glasses (like me). Throw in the good ergonomics (you can really see the experience Nikon has) and for me the Z7II was the clear choice and I ordered it along with a few lenses. Now lets hope Nikon delivers a fast 35 and 85 similar to the quality of the GMs (I’m sure they will).

    Hi there maybe you don’t see often good sales on the S1R but let me tell you that in France we often have real great price operation on it. Once it was sold with the 24-105 for 4400€ and you had the 50mm S Pro for 1€. Last one was 2500€ including the 24-105... real good operation.
    And one point you forget to mention is that the S1R is an L mount Alliance camera which means you can mount extraordinary Leica SL lenses... this you can forget with whatever the 3 other brands you compare the S1R with... and this kills the game ! Don’t you think?

Better colors from raw files straight from Lightroom, better image stabilization, more touches like the red blinking “no card” alert, much more visible than Sony. And great kit lenses, better quality and price than Sony budget kit lenses. There are some usability points that transcend the best autofocus and such.

    In IQ i don't get how the Panasonic is at the bottom, in the color comparison to the Canon it wasn't as vivid but in the recovery it didn't tint the shadows like the R5, in low-light it was superior to the Sony and didn't have as much color noise as the Canon/Nikon. In-body HR mode also sets it on-par with Sony's UHR mode; I don't get it but all of them are great anyways.

      I’ve used the GFX50S for a while in our studio. Mostly fashion and make-up portraits. After a few months I returned to one of our full-frame systems (the A7RIV and now waiting for my Z7II). While the GFX50 has a very good image quality that is comparable to the A7RIV, it is a very different camera. Compared to these newest full-frame mirrorless cameras, it is quite big, heavy (gripped 5D) and a bit clumsy. The AF is very slow esp. in low light and eye-AF is useless. With a moving subject it often lags behind and focuses on eyelashes or cheekbones instead of pupils. I used it with the 32-64 and the 110 lenses, which are both excellent. The GFX works best in a studio or at location on a tripod and with static setups like portraits, product photos or landscape. In that sense it’s very similar to our Hasselblad H6. As said, in image quality the GFX50 can keep up with the A7RIV, but it is not visibly better unless you print man-sized high. For that you need the GFX100. However for general purpose a full-frame mirrorless camera is definitely more flexible and easier to work with. We now use the GFX50 with an 120 macro lens for our product photography (perfume bottles, lipsticks et cetera). For that it’s perfect...

    Great video. I personally don't dislike Sony ergonomics like everyone else, but I never liked bulky DSLRs like the Canon 5d line or Nikon's D8xx cameras. That feels like the most subjective measurement in the comparison, but it feels like the folks who thrived on DSLRs don't like the difference. I'd be interested if folks that don't have that legacy preconception of camera "feel" would agree or not. Not sure if that's fodder for a future video or not.

    • @coltoncyr2283
      @coltoncyr2283 3 роки тому +1

      @@youknowwho9247 well let's start by saying every camera is amazing, and there's no need to "switch" if you already have glass.
      But as to landscape shots, you don't need 12fps, you don't need eyeaf. Lens lineup doesn't matter because you don't shoot 1.8.
      But with the FTZ adapter that's not a valid point to say Nikon is limited lol
      So off the bat Nikon has the best color science, can't argue that much, and dynamic range Nikon also takes the lead on that. It's not like the Nikon get an A+ and Canon is a C-, they are all great. But Nikons is pretty amazing.

    • @youknowwho9247
      @youknowwho9247 3 роки тому

      @@coltoncyr2283 I disagree, simply because there's no evidence to support your assertions.
      First of all, the FTZ adapter is not a remedy for the lack of native lenses. Modern, mirrorless glass is universally regarded to be significantly sharper than older DSLR lenses. I say that as a D850 shooter with tons of F-mount glass. The mirrorless architecture also allows for more compact lens designs at no loss of optical quality, which a landscape shooter who'll typically hike with their gear will certainly benefit from.
      Colour science is really a buzz word with no meaning. First of all, what pleasing colours are is highly subjective. There are people in support of any one manufacturer. Personally, I find Canon images to look best straight out of camera, but again, that's highly subjective. What more important is the fact that if one shoots RAW, as virtually all landscape shooters will, any camera can be made to look like any other in post. It's not a laborious process either, I can make a Sony look like a Nikon on import with literally zero added work for myself during later processing.
      Dynamic range on the other hand is a valuable asset. Let's start by first noticing that all of the cameras discussed are so close in that domain to be virtually undistinguishable. So making buying decisions based on that seems silly. Next, in whose favour are those tiny differences? Well, it depends on who we ask. Across different outlets you can actually find different answers. By no stretch of the imagination is it obvious that Nikon is ahead here. My personal go-to for such matters would be photons-to-photos, as they do rigorous science-like testing in very controlled conditions. There, the Nikon actually comes in last, behind Sony and Canon.
      In conclusion - I really don't see how a landscape shooter is best served with the Nikon. Especially not given the fact that the Sony has more resolution and the Canon has a screen that allows for easier verticals.
      I'd also argue that landscape shooting is not the domain where the advantages of mirrorless come into play particularly heavily. Personally the camera I'd recommend to anyone who does nothing but landscape is a used D800E.

      @@youknowwho9247 Agreed. Pick up camera, flick switch with my right index finger and immediately move finger onto the shutter button, for the Sony and Nikon design. The Canon, you're moving your left hand from its natural position on the lens, to the back of the camera, and then to the lens again. The S1R's is a little weird, but at least it's on the right side and you shouldn't have to move your hand much to reach it.
