  • 🇵🇱 Kościół obronny św. Marcina, Felsztyn (Skeliwka)
🇺🇦 Оборонний костел св. Мартина, Фельштин (Скелівка)
    Construction period: early 16th century.
Founder: Polish nobleman, Castellan and Starosta of Sanok Jan Herburt.
    Historical note:
Roman Catholic church of St Martin in Felsztyn (currently Skelivka, in Ukraine) was built in early 16th century by order of Polish nobleman, historian and diplomat Jan Herburt, Castellan and Starosta of city of Sanok.
The church served the function of tomb for the Herburt family, thanks to which in the 16th century it received generous funds. Several monumental tombstones were erected there during the century. The first memorial plate installed by the entrance to the church crypt commemorated the wife of Seweryn Herburt, the Ensign of Lwow, who died in 1495. In order to commemorate Krzysztof Herburt (died 1558) and bishop Walenty Herburt (died 1572), side chapels were constructed and their tombs placed within them. Work on Bishop Walenty's tomb was carried out by the architects Josef and Herman van Hutte, who worked in Sambor in 1573. The church was damaged during WWI.
After WW2 and the annexation by the Soviet Union of almost half of Poland's pre-war territory, the church was closed and devastated. In 1990 the former Roman Catholic temple was handed over to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
The “PL-UA. History by drone” project consists of 100 short film productions depicting architectural monuments that were created in the period of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The series of short documentary films were screened in Ukraine. A Polish-Ukrainian team consisting of historians, journalists, writers, non-governmental organisations and youth joined forces to create the films. Project was financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
