I always wear my veil / mantilla. Even when we go downstairs to the basement of our church where the kitchen & hall are, because I know Jesus is still in the building. I have had a priest ask me why I wore it there, and when I told him my reasoning, he thought about it & never mentioned it again. 👍

I'm a teenager who started veiling about a year ago. I felt called to do it despite not knowing anyone else who did (my mother was hesitant to even allow it) and prayed about it for months before finally deciding to start wearing a mantilla to mass. Because there were so few women at my NO parish who veiled, I was initially really self conscious, but now I'm much more comfortable and have even started seeing more women with mantillas! To all other girls considering veiling, it is totally worth it to embrace tradition and reverence for Christ! I'm so grateful that, through God's help, I pushed through my insecurity and responded to His call.

Wearing a veil is biblical. 1Corinthians 11. I wear a veil everyday, everywhere. We are to be in a prayer attitude all the time, so instead of trying to keep track of where my veil is, I wear it all the time. It isn’t big like a church veil but it covers my hair. It is also a great witnessing tool.

I veil. And I attend the NO Mass. my Church is literally next door to my home. My priest is a Marian priest. There is talk of him wanting to use the rail and communion on the tongue. I’m a guy, but your NO experience is very similar to mine. If you’re in Memphis, Holy Rosary on Park- 10:30am Mass is about as reverent as a NO Mass can get. Incense, pipe organ, singing responses. Many big families, many woman in veils. Though they don’t use the rail, they do have a kneeler to receive Communion on, and many parishioners use it, including myself. I think there is one TLM church left in Memphis. Glad the Bishop didn’t outlaw it like in so many other parishes, but Bishop Talley has done a pretty good job.

I think you are being disingenuous by pretending you have no opinion on the subject but merely looking to scripture and tradition. It is very obvious even from your remarks about Paul that you are a very conservative, traditional religious fundamentalist. As such you believe women, including your wife, are inferior and therefore must cover themselves because they are not fit to stand before God as you do.

Though I try to attend the most reverent Novus Ordo Mass I can find, I began wearing a veil about 3 years ago. Jesus began to speak to my heart about the humility it took to wear a veil (I tend to be proud and dress my best for Sunday. Still after a couple of months of veiling I wanted to put it aside. And then, I heard the Lord say, "Will you do it for Me?" And each of us knows when we hear that distinct voice which is Jesus. "Yes, Lord, I will do anything that YOU ask me to do. But Lord, may I ask why, for what purpose?" The Lord replied, "As a sign. A sign for the priest. When the priest sees your head covered he will recall the traditional doctrines of the Church and will not be as likely to embrace modernism - which is man's path." "Will you be a sign for Me?" "Yes, Lord, whatever YOU ask of Me, I will do."
Since obeying ad embracing the Lord's command every time I enter a chapel, He has supplied me a multitude of graces, and a number of challenges. It seems ANY sign of traditional doctrines in today's Catholic Church cuts like a two-edged sword. Jesus be the Victor, I pray.

I have lived through the so-called “evolution” of feminism from beginning in the early ‘60’s until now. Every Easter, for years, I bought a pretty new hat or veil to wear to Mass. I miss that. Conclusion: So-called Equality has reduced women to eternal slaves. Yes, yes I know. There are times when women MUST take the reins, earn the living, etc. in those situations, because it is unavoidable, it works. But when is the last time any young woman had a ‘Hope chest’, dreams of simply being a lovely wife and mother and having a husband who was the patriarch? Centuries of men and women’s life roles cannot be conclusively changed because deep in our souls and our DNA (depending on your belief) we crave the Holy Family structure as God intended. Mary didn’t lead the way to Bethlehem, Joseph did.

So beautifully written! I’m 35 yo, I fell into that trap. I was so ambitious and wanted to work outside the home and be a “strong independent woman”. I opted to resign my position and stay home at the beginning of the pandemic as I was heavily pregnant and the kids had to do home schooling. I didn’t realize until I was home how horribly miserable I was working; I LOVE being at home and caring for my home and family. I will be going back to work in 2022, not because I want to, but because I owe so much in student loans that my husband can’t pay them alone. My goal is to work HARD to pay off the loans and the mortgage in 5 years and come back home full time. I tell my 5 year old that there is nothing more beautiful than caring and loving for one’s home and family; and I think she sees and feels the love because she always says, “I want to be a mommy at home like you”.

This was a very interesting program. Yes, I too remember wearing a head covering and always being dressed modestly during the 1940s-1950s - no veils. I remember hats including tams, kerchiefs, handkerchiefs (and on occasion a tissue) with a bobby pin to hold it. St. Paul notes head covering as does the 1917 code. The only mention of veil is by Linus. As for black, only widows wore black back then to Mass (I think the custom was for a year but many simply continued). A young or married woman would not wear black outfits in church unless they were attending a funeral. Children never wore black, even to a funeral. Today, nothing prevents a woman from wearing any type of head covering to Mass said in English if she chose. If it's important to any woman, then simply do it.

I find it to be a very positive thing in my spiritual life! I felt called to veil in 2017, did a little research, prayed, bought and wore my mantilla for the first time (at a NO Mass)… and never went back! Beyond the reverence we show to our Lord, women who veil are a beautiful walking example of the Bride of Christ! Some other positive things I’ve found is that as I put it on, I prepare my heart for worship and having it on in church helps to keep my eyes forward and less distracted by things happening around me. Another positive as a busy mom is that I don’t have to waste time before mass “fixing” my hair- I simply cover it! Saves me so much time and hassle! I love seeing more women bring back this beautiful tradition! Both at NO and TLM masses near me (though there are definitely more at the TLM)!

The best analogy, or argument, for women wearing a veil, is similar to why we veil the chalice. The chalice contains that which is sacred, the Bread of Life.
So too, the woman brings forth life. Woman are differentiated in that sense. (I am a man and recognize God has a vocation for me too.). But women are truly sacred in their ability to give life.

    • @4guadalupe4
      @4guadalupe4 2 роки тому +1

Yes. We were duped into not covering our head after Vatican 2. As a teen I trusted the Church completely. So with the lie I was swept away in the flood and stopped wearing a veil. Hindsight! Soon after more clothes came off! Immodesty ruled. Abortion entered to complete the Woman's demise. God created the woman to be the Tabernacle of Life. Our Lady was the first and the Immaculate Tabernacle of God. Yes, one covers what is holy as the Chalice or the Tabernacle in Church. I went back to covering my head as I began to see the destruction pattern. Covering a Woman's head is a sign of the great gift God gave...as Eve said when she when Cain was born 'with the help of the Lord I have produced a man'. The enemy must hate it when women cover their head. A way for me to kinda fight back.

It puts me in the background and puts the focus on the real reason I and everyone else is there. I wear lace mantillas, chapel veils and rebozos. I also wear different colors so it “goes” with what I wear. Veiling has affected me and how I present myself to the world so much I am praying about wearing a head covering all the time now. When I first starting veiling I was the only one in my church, and I would get MEAN looks from middle aged women (50ish), now I see more and more women wearing veils. Good point but it’s how they are sometimes . I have a feeling they know I am more trad - so they kind of shun me and it is disappointing of course that so many NO Types are ignorant about reverence and the Mass . I think God wants me to be me though so I keep on doing that . Our former priest used to give communion to us at a kneeler so we could choose to kneel and receive on the tongue - new priest stands with no kneeler in front of him now and has the 2 female EM with kneelers - that hurt me . He’s moving in a modern direction . We have an sspx near and I will go there soon - never been there but I must check it out now .

Thank you for the beautiful explanation. I would like to share another beautiful explanation for vailing. In Catholicism, traditionally, sacred things are vailed or covered..... eg. the tabernacle, the consecrated wine in a chalice, the monstrance canopy during a procession, etc. When a women covers her head it can be a sign that she is a sacred vessel as well because God places a human body with a soul in her womb when she conceives and carries. Sorry if this is not too theologically accurate, but i just wanted to share it.

In my home country Nigeria you would not be allowed into some Churches without the veil. In most novus ordo churches in Nigeria they won't let you go and receive Holy Communion without a veil. . Of course the western influence keeps getting stronger. I go to TLM now in America and so I am at peace with my veil. When I first came I was attending the novus ordo and it was so mortifying to be the only one veiling, recieving Holy Communion kneeling down and on the tongue. Peace at last.

Just began wearing a veil and it makes a great difference to concentration and reverence. Just a thought though - dress should be modest otherwise just the veil will look out of place. With some circles, it has become a fashion statement with colorful veils to match the dress. Is it necessary? Veils were white for virgins, black for married women and thats how it should be. No distractions at Mass even in this area.

If the veil blends in with the dress, I see nothing wrong with that. Even some pictures of the Blessed Mother show her with a blue veil. It is not the color thats important but the fact that covering your head as a woman in the presence of Christ, shows reverence for Our Lord.

I think colored veils are acceptable as long as they are not exaggerated and loud. Pastels, creme, beige, grey tones, understated colors are just fine.
Black and white are traditional colors, but there is no rule. I'm a widow and I do wear a black veil. It was my mother's veil that my father gave me after she died. I had a beautiful beige veil before that.

    Yes .. definitely!
    That’s My answer!
    I’m 71. .. So I’m old school!
When I was young, I carried a scarf always with me in my handbag ., in case I wanted to duck into a church., to sit or receive a sacrament,
I’d go roller skating on Saturdays . I had to
Pass my church on the way home so I would, almost every Saturday, go to Confession and afterwards hang out for a while talking with the other priest (and we also had a Bishop as well who went on to become Cardinal Of Sydney. His name was Cardinal Freeman., he was a wonderful man and Priest).. His diocese was the same as Cardinal Pell but years before.,
I’d hang out with them because that was in the good old days when we had the CYO . (The Catholic Youth Organization ) and the Church in your area organized dances and netball games and picnics near the river or beach., doesn’t exist anymore.. another thing gone).
My sister met her husband at the CYO.,
Anyhow even when ., like everything else., they reversed the “cover yr head rule”., I continued to cover my head,
It’s just seems to disrespectful to go into a church (if I can get into one) without my head covered.
I will do that until I die.
Recently my sister died and a High Mass was conducted.,
I was quite surprised to see about half the women had their heads covered ., so maybe it’s coming back., I hope so!
A church is a consecrated place., surely it’s not a big ask?

My daughters and I have been veiling for about 10 years. It’s such a beautiful tradition. I feel closer to the Blessed Virgin when I am wearing a veil. It keeps the reason we are in Mass (to worship) front and center. I believe that there are no hard and fast rules on color, but I do stick to darker colors and all my unmarried daughters stick to lighter colors and white. I think it’s a personal choice. There are many good veil companies online and on Etsy. Thanks for this video Dr Marshall!

I always wore a veil to a TLM and then wondered why I wasn't veiling at my parish NO Mass? Our Lord is the same Lord, so why am I not veiling at my parish NO Mass?
(I was nervous to veil at my local parish since my 6 children attend the Catholic School there.)
Once I realized that I was "afraid" of what others may possibly think of me, I stopped giving them free rent in my head and veiled!
I guess one could say that when our churches opened up again after the initial Covid shut down, I had my own "coming out" party. ☺️
I now veil everywhere the Blessed Sacrament is present, not just at a TLM.
I am NOT holier than thou.
I am just finally being consistent in presenting myself to God.

I think the fact of my Bishop taking away The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass during the onset of Covid helped propel me to not care what the other mommas thought of me. I used to be afraid that they'd view me as "trying to be holier than thou", when actually I am trying to focus on God during Mass and Adoration.
Once I removed myself from the center, I was able to glorify God in the way that I believe is supreme. (Embarrassingly, it took me a long time to remove myself, but thankfully, I did. I was 48 y/o when I finally came to my senses. I'm 50 now.)

100% ABSOLUTELY. Study 1 Corinthians 11 where it goes into this. When I studied this and realized EVERYTHING sacred in church is covered, it made complete sense. Also, Christian women are called to be submissive to God AND their husbands. Women today have an issue with this, but to be fully submissive in faith makes you realize it isn't about you being less than, it is you being seen as protected and sacred.
Proverbs teaches us that a virtuous woman's value is worth more than rubies. So many things in the Bible speak to the sacred feminine and why we should embrace veiling at mass.
I fully veil at my novus ordo parish and EVERY Catholic Church I go to. I've only received nothing but support from others and have even seen other women starting to veil as well.

There is no point in wearing a veil and at the same time wearing leggings with every private part exposed!!! At a NO Mass, the female lector wore that to read the reading and distribute Holy Communion. I was able to connect with her and ask her to stop wearing clothing that she might wear at home relaxing in front of the fireplace to Holy Mass, much less to do all the things she did do. I offered to buy her a dress, if she did not have one. She laughed. She did seem to take it to heart. It turns out she is lawyer and has much more money than I to buy any clothing she might want.
