That's a custom part that adjusts the system based on the angle the ductwork comes off of the Clearvue unit. Basically just brings everything back to level.
Custom elbow eh? Very useful. One last question, did you by any chance ask Nordfab if they did custom length straight pipes? I'm currently designing a duct system for my shop and I have a bunch of sections that are shorter than five feet and a shorter straight pipe would save a lot on buying extra adjustable nipples.
Not as far as I know, but I didn't actually ask. I'm guessing it'd end up being just as expensive if it was custom. If it's short enough, you can just use the nipple as the straight pipe, which we did in a few places.
I've been seriously looking at the iVac stuff. Seems pretty legit. I have seen a lot of people with it and haven't heard any bad things yet! Thanks for the video man. Great as always!
I used to sell large industrial systems. One thing I noticed is that they did not recommend that you put a ground strap/wire (to ground not the negative) on the metal ducting, as wood fibers can create static electricity. Which could cause a fire in your shop. I would not mount it on the dust collector as it coated and may not dissipate the electricity form the ducting.

So I just watched your dust collection video from 2 years ago. This new video contradicts a lot of comments from the previous video. So I guess this is the best system...... until the next one?
to help with dust collection on that miter saw station, i added clear thick plastic sheeting on the face. I think it increased my suction for that saw by at least 70-80%. I barely get any dust coming out from off the saw and most of it ends up back behind the saw or through the hood/collector.
Nicely done, looks like a real professional installation. Just one thing I'm curious about, why didn't you mount the cyclone higher up, and attach the collection drum with a longer section of pipe? Seems like you'd get better performance than the 2 90s you put in.
Great setup! The Clearvue folks are awesome! I wish I had the new metal design. I would love to have the automated blast gates as well but especially the 6" ones are really pricey.
Nice system. Great addition to your new shop. Not gonna lie. I’m a bit jealous. Noise is probably not your main concern. Yet I wonder if it would run quieter using some padding in the brackets. Especially when the pipes are mounted on plywood walls. Depending on motor/system vibrations that plywood where it’s bolted on to, is gonna act like a subwoofer. At least. That’s what I would “worry” about 🤓

Niiice. Digging the automation. You can just focus on the job itself and not the cleaning up.. Just yesterday I automated my ceiling fan so I can just voice control it instead of standing up and walking to the wall switch.. the time I spent on automating it.. not sure if I'll ever save the time but damnit if it helps my lazy days be lazier.. it's a win :D

All I have to say is...”Pure!” Honestly you cant get any better with what you have done. Never once did I hear vacuum. That word alone does no justice. Glad you know what you’re doing on that dust collection system. I’d be the pudge monkey who’d screw it up and have to tear it down and start all over again. Great job on the shop. Just waiting to see what you start putting out of it. Do you sell any of your builds? If so, is there a way to get your address? I live in NC.

Given the power of this system .... it is probably overkill ... but looking at laying out something similar for my new workshop (cheaper duct work as I am a hobbyist) and wondering if moving the blast gates closer to the main run (rather than at the tool) ... would be worth wild?
I'm really curious when they designed the ducting they chose to go with the double-90 at the beginning instead of just going with a longer section of straight pipe and then using a 22.5 or less to level off at the desired height. Regardless, pretty jealous as I'm sure it performs fantastic either way. Grats.
So you've now passed step 1 which is admitting the problem. Now use that motivation from Johnny to get to step 2 which is starting the design... soon you'll have your own ducting
ClearVue is brand of dust collection I want to get. PowerMatic bandsaw is one I want to get. You have both would love to see before and after dust inside the bandsaw. Any chance you can have a Dylos air meter running as well?
I don’t have a Dylos air meter unfortunately and I’ve always had a Clearvue since getting the bandsaw so there’s basically no dust whatsoever in the bandsaw cabinet.

I’m making a recycled stool out of three steel rims out of a junk yard, in trying to figure out hot to protect flooring from the sharp lip on the bottom rim, I tried fuel line cut down the middle with some epoxy with no success since the act of moving the chair wore out the bond of the epoxy very quickly. Any thoughts on the material I could use?
For most people Norfab is overkill. It's incredibly expensive because it rated for fumes, smoke, and dust--really industrial. Yes, quick connect is great, but for those that plan their system well, there has to be less expensive solutions that is also of very high quality.
Where did you find that magical 6" to 5" reducer for the planer?? I went to Home Depot and Lowes and they have them but they are 5" outer diameter and don't fit the planer(I have same as you). Gaaah!
Nice! That Nordfab is a bitter pill to swallow but it's nice that you can adapt it to different setups and it can move with you. I have the iVac Switches but not the gates yet. Might try an arduino thing for the gates but I I love the switches.
You kept talking up this ducting, all it's features, these holes are so amazing to have, etc, and I was sitting here just thinking about how theyre limited production, all the bells and whistles, and they probably cost so much more than is reasonable and couldn't possibly be worth the money over even just normal ducts or PVC. Then you said it was 4000, and I think that's crazy. Blew me away. Couldn't imagine buying 4000 in ducting out if pocket for such a project. You're paying half that cost for a look and feel at that point.
Probably doesn't matter since you'll never need to do this again but you know you didn't need the 2 90s at all... You had 2 45s just before that. If you just angled the connecting piece between the 45s (and make it a little longer) you can go up AND over with just the 2 joints, no need for all 4

Of course, the time element and it being a business expense is a whole different deal than a hobby shop where the budget is tight.

The sensors support any amperage as all they’re doing is sensing current. I’ve got the same sensors on my 20a drum sander and 40A planer, they work fine. The switches only support up to 20A, which is why I need to use a contactor in conjunction with my dust collector, which draws 30A. Hope that makes sense.
@@craftedworkshop Thanks. That does make more sense. The ivac site is not super useful with those details. My saw and planer are 30amp circuits. IIRC, my dust collector is as well. THanks. I'll look back into these.

This certainly isn’t a DIY setup and isn’t labeled as such. This is a professional grade dust collection system, definitely an investment but one that will last for 10+ years in a commercial environment easily.

Sewer pipe is incredibly cheap and just as easy to cut and install. But if you got the money...

Got mine from Lowe’s! Required a little finessing with pliers but it worked!

That would be true but that first part is at 7 degrees, not 45. It’s to adjust for the angle coming out of the dust collector. Hope that makes sense.
