These caster wheels are a simple and effective solution for workbenches that need to be moved around frequently. Whether you're a woodworker or a DIY enthusiast, these caster wheels are a great way to improve your workspace!
I absolutely love videos like this one. Incredibly useful, superb quality and editing, no wasted stories about the beginning of the earth or about my cousin's neighbor's nephew....blah, blah, blah. Straight to the point. Don't even need words or music!! I have the same setup...EXCEPT for the spring loaded bracket. Definitely gonna use this. EXCELLENT!!!! Thanks so much!!!
Perhaps the simplest cheapest, and easiest solution to retractable wheels I have seen on YT so far, and I've seen dozens of ideas from poorly thought out, to much to overly complicated ideas.
The 3" wheels are fairly cheap, you can buy cut offs of the angle iron almost anywhere for less that $10, and the spring and lag bolt are just as cheap. What I love about this style is that they do not cause a tripping hazard. I bought years ago the "Work Bench" wheels that stick out at each corner, but when I laid them out, I realized just how much the stood out from each corner, and never installed them. I still have them and will be putting them up for sale instead of letting them collect more sawdust.
Thanks for sharing your idea. My first video of yours and I have subscribed!
I like the way you edit the videos and not make them boring with real time repetition.
Over the years I have seen many versions of this, and even have copied one for myself, but it failed and broke - I can honestly say this is the best version I've seen. SImple, easy, the kicker release is perfect.
Agreed. Very well done.
Same here.
While we're at it, something has to be done for home appliances and work desks with castors.
These are made from plastic materials and a guard/coover which trap fibres, swarf and such stuff which cause jamming and destruction.
Difficult to replace these.
I suspect his broke as well. At 6:33 the hinges have been changed.
@@1992jamo Well spotted ! - yes he has changed the hinges for ones with a stronger central pin. I was planning to use ones that are rated for heavy doors, but even so, very well spotted.
Whats even better than this version is the original ua-cam.com/video/knXbcY3ipQw/v-deo.html
Many people over complicated these retractable castor ideas. This is simple, straight to the point and works well and not hard to adapt at all. Cheers
Brilliant! I’ve been wanting something like this for a long while, had thought about commercial solutions, but I didn’t trust their little levers to have enough leverage to lift a heavy bench. They’d also only raise one corner a time. This is a great design, I’m so glad YT finally surfaced it for me! Thanks!!
You make the best videos , you show without distracting voice commentary, or lousy poor taste in music. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Elegant design and beautifully executed. I love it. Putting things on wheels is a constant need for diyers who don’t have limitless space in their garages. I’ve seen many and devised my own ones (never seen anywhere else). This is a good one!
One limitation is that this suits only relatively light load. Relevant to this limitation, we should use castor wheels of small radius of swivel, and wide/strong hinges, in this design
An absolute visionary so much more time and money has been spent to do this by other means Sooooo good i watched the first 8 seconds about 8 times
the ultimate simple and effective contraption for a workbench, i really love it! thank you so much
This is one of my favorite videos. Thanks for the clever and very clean design.
I was expecting this to be terrible 😂 I actually really like it and will use a refined version of this as the finishing touch on my work bench build when it's complete.
Thanks bud! 👍
Thanks! Nice
Very clever design. I saved this to my to-do list.
Que ideia maravilhosa. Tenho penado muito para mover minha serra. Muito obrigado pela dica. Muito sucesso e saúde para você.
This may be the best solution all round for making the various tool stands I need to build mobile when I need them to be mobile and not at all mobile when I don't. Cheap, simple to build, easy to use, and no trip hazard. It helps that they work with the design of tool stand I have in my head!
Very clever and well executed. I’m going to consider this for my heavy bench.
Thanks for sharing. I particularly appreciate that you put the measurements at every step
Okay, you win. I like your design the most and will be using it on an assembly table I'm making this week. You also explained things very well, without saying a word. Thank you very much for sharing!
How'd it turn out?!
@@RockinA82 My assembly table turned out great, . . .so far. I got interrupted with lots of work and so its not 100% complete, but very usable for now. Never got around doing the casters and so far its not in the way where I have it.
Excellent design, very simple ease of use and effective. Thank you for sharing.
Good idea. The longer you make the bottom piece, the more leverage will work to your advantage, making it easier to raise back up. The tradeoff, of course, is lifting height. However, as most of us would be using this for heavy items, and as most persons have a smooth shop floor, I'd opt to go as long as possible and still get 0.25 inches of height. Also, the farther you place the locking lever from the fulcrum, the less force there will be upon it. Cheers.
What an easy and effective solution to a major problem. Thanks
Brilliant! Simple design and functional.👍
Great idea only thing is I would add a couple of guides in the middle to keep the wood from shifting back and forth and twisting out.
Excellent idea. It shouldn't be hard to adapt one of those guides to prevent your foot getting caught under the shelf as well.
Fantastic creativity, design, fabrication and implication skills!
Спасибо тебе добрый человек. Наглядно показал как это работает. Успехов в работе
Great Job. Such a simple and cheap solution. If you were to go to the store and buy one that does the same would cost you around $60.00 - $75.00.
Very cool. I’ve been trying to work out some way to attach casters to my workbench and this fits the bill perfectly. Great job!
Nicely worked out and I think the forces would be taken pretty well.
Excellent, simplicity, cost-effective, thank you very much appreciated
Squares it perfectly, brings in the clamp, and the entire piece moves. Doesn't care because the square was already overkill. ha Nice vid!
Wish I could give this 100 👍
that is the cleanest shop I have ever seen
THIS IS RILLIANT ... EL-PERFECTO ... precisley what i am looking for. CHEERS
Wonderful.
Might I suggest a slight mod? If you keep the latch angle at 90 degrees it's prone to slippage. Decreasing it slightly and rounding the inner corner makes for a much more positive 'lock' when the catch is closed.
I've just completed a small support table for my thicknesser and couldn't be more pleased with it.
A big THANK YOU!
Great simple concept but I had to make an alternate to the spring catch mechanism. The cross member on my bench joining the legs is on the outside of the legs and just above the timbers for the wheels. I added a block to the top timber and when pushed down to raise the bench, the top of the block I added was slightly above the cross member. I drilled a hole through the cross member and the block and then pushed a bolt (as a pin) through to lock the wheels in place. To lower the bench legs I put slight downward pressure on the block and pull the pin out. Works well.
This is the best version I've seen.
That's just brilliant, dude! Fantastic work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I didn't know shaggy got into woodworking.
(Nice Scooby Doo Drip btw)
Great build. I think I'll be able to make that with the limited tools on hand.
Just need a spring...
Great job. Simple and easy to make and saves alot of money 💰 for me 😅
Awesome video. Thank you 😊
Wow! I am adding this to my workbenches. Thanks!
Really nicely produced, clear video. Thankyou - this is for sure the guide I will use when building my next bench.
Looks like a great build, well done.
I suggest adding guards along the top edge of the wood behind the latch, to prevent accidentally crushing your toe or foot between the wooden hinged piece and the bench. Right now it looks like a guillotine.
As soon as you start adding OSHA type garbage it usually screws with the operation and - or adds the peice you actually hurt yourself with lol.
@@elconquistador932 Yep! OSHA garbage is always unnecessary, redundant and stupid until a fraction of a second before an incident happens. Ask people who have lost a limb or an eye.
@@abouteverything2115 or when you get tangled up in the "safety device".
OSHA isn't a dumb idea, but over thought cumbersome junk is.
@@abouteverything2115 Literally every person thats lost a limb ever. over thought cumbersome junk lets remove it, I knew a guy that had a 9" angle grinder explode and kill him instantly because he thought the guard was cumbersome junk. Its only that way to the ignorant.
Tambien confirmo, después de ver algunos videos de este tipo, este es el mejor. Great Job.
That is so simple a solution it is brilliant! Nice no nonsense vid, to….
Beautiful and very useful video - THANKS FROM THAILAND!
vraiment génial!!c'est très intelligent 👍👍👍le meilleur système que j'ai vu dans son coût et dans sa simplicité BRAVO et surtout merci pour le partage!!!👏👏🙏🙏
Super Lösung und tolles Video! 👍
I did something very similar to this about 45 years ago on my first table saw in my one car garage shop. But, my solution was not quite as elegant as your solution. Well done.
Your grindings disk skills are impressive.
So smart! I love your design!
Very cool, really great way to give you the best of both, I like this very much. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Great bro.thanks for this idea.its very very genius.succes fully 🙏🙏💪💪💪💪
Great video, simple and most guys have this stuff kicking around the shop.
Definitely adding this to the sewing table.
This is brilliant. In going to add this my workshop as I build it. Thanks so much
Wow very well presented video. Thanks much appreciated
Very cool! My concern is the stress at each of the hinges. I wonder if they will work their way loose over time
Nice design and excellent workmanship.
Well done! (Someone else probably said this, but still…) Nice clear explanation of the process. What type of wood did you use? I’ve got some oak that should do the trick. Thanks for your efforts! I think I’ll use this for my planer.
Absolutely brilliant. Exactly what I was looking for.
This is so going to help more people get creative like you have done here great solution I’ll be testing it out
Brilliant. Seen a few versions on this. But this is the one i definitly will do. Besides that the video is also very god. Thanks.
CONGRATULATIONS !!! ... NICE JOB !!! ... I'M DOING MINE !!! ... THANKS A LOT !!!
amazing work. wish i had those skills!
THIS IS INSANE. Thanks a lot :3
I need to do the reverse: I have a cabinet that has casters under it and I want to build retractable feet so that I can stop it from rolling when I want to. You've given me some ideas.
You could remove the casters you have, and implement this exactly as shown too
@@Andrew-wq1ue True. The problem is that my application is not a workbench with legs that this device can mount between. It is a square cabinet with casters mounted to the bottom of it. I can't mount this device to the sides of the cabinet because it has doors on three sides, and I can't raise the cabinet to provide extra room for this device underneath it because it has to fit under one of my workbenches. 🤔
@@Dan-hw9iu Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, and even though the wheels lock they still swivel so the cabinet still moves a bit. My table saw is mounted on top of it, so ideally I would like it to be rock-steady when it's locked. I have a very small workshop so the table saw needs to roll under a workbench when I'm not using it.
Your videos should be a pattern for most,, most videos ,, no back ground talk unless necessary to make an unclear point more understandable ,,, we’ll done you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Muito obrigado pelo vídeo. Vou fazer na mesa da minha bancada e da Serra circular.
I like the idea of this. How about adapting it to full extension drawer slides so the drawer will stay closed until you release it from the catch?
This is a great idea! I will definitely be making my own version of this in the future
better make sure your hinges are ultra heavy duty gauge. it looks like the weight falls on them when the wheels are in use.
Very slick!
Genius! this is the best way!
Fantastic👏🏽. Much respect
Uao, bem robusto esse mecanismo; muito engenhoso seu projeto, gostei bastante, simples e fácil de executar em qualquer projeto que necessite de um mecanismo para recolher as rodinhas. Grata por compartilhar.
Great job! 👍👍👍
Great idea. I will be making a metal version though.
Amazing beautiful work. 👍👍👍👍🇨🇷🇨🇷🇨🇷
Nicely done and instructed :-)
Thumbs up for an excellent presentation.
The hinges look too weak for a heavy bench, I would probably at least bolt them through rather than screw them in. And use a tough hardwood such as ash rather than 2x4 pine. Regardless, a very nice video. I would also like to mention that the presenter has excellent skills with the grinder !
Very clever for workbenches 👍🏻
Well that is very very clever !
Great Video. Visually well explained.
Excellent idea. Thank you

Great if you work with metal! I love the rest of it
This is awesome thanks for sharing
Çok beğendim. Video çekiminin de çok profesyonel.
Awesome concept. Thank you.
Very good idea.
Very clever idea, but I see many ways to make it better!
Well, share them with us!
@@AndreaArzensek May be making hook on bouth sides of plank. And asomething that sets those two wooden planks more accurate one above each other.
Gorgeous!
Bonne idée, c'est ce qu'il me faut sur mon support de cible de fléchettes
Love this.
What a great build! Thanks

so simple yet so efficient
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing!
Does this system support a heavier workbench? (Cleber / Brazil)
Excellent !! Great Job!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice. This is Proper DIY’s with an improved latch mechanism. Ofc, I doubt he invented it himself since I’ve seen this in an 80+ year old master craftsman’s shop.
Well done!
Nice! Can this be done with 10" pneumatic wheels? Also, a challenge: how could this be done on a tripod? Have been going around and around on it for months. Want to roll it over grass and bumps with a system like this, hence the large wheels (heavy telescope). Many many telescope dolly designs out there, but none like this where the legs can be on the ground after rolling it over. Making it even harder is that the legs are round and can't be drilled because the extension legs slide up into the top parts of the legs.
