    I'm there now, rented a villa for 2 months, its my goto island because montreal has direct flights which is really good, C. Is not a poor island by carribean standards, so the super markets are excellent, centrum and mangusa hypermarket, market in willemstaad has the cheapest produce from Venezuela. Amazing weather year round. Tons of hiking trails and having my atv and boat would give me so much more to do. Atv trails galore.....no interest to visit aruba or sister island bonaire. Great place that still is not well known but they are building lots of houses here now. March 2024. Worth the stay.

    Well done yet again! Fantastic narration Lori! If you could provide more info on admission fees to enter parks, cost of accommodation(s), and languages, and whatever else you think you'd like to know before visiting a new country, that would be good, for future videos of course. Thanks for the content

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  Рік тому +2

      Yes, noted! When we move to a new country we try hard to think of and remember all the things that go along with planning potential upcoming videos. There is a LOT of info to gather, think about, remember to ask, jot down, keep receipts for ....etc!
      The funny thing too about Curacao is we lived there BEFORE we started our UA-cam channel so we actually weren't even really in keeping receipts, documenting and jotting down details to share with others mode. We were just living that year! We only filmed cause we ALWAYS did that in new places we lived. It was a good year later when the idea came to put our experiences of living in Curacao into a video for people to learn from. Believe us, we wish we had more info to share there. But we are super glad that you like what we DID remember. Haha!
      Super great ideas though that we will keep in mind for future. Thank you @Sue M!

    • @thewrightsights

      @@PlanFree There were several reasons that made it unique. There are hundreds of little birds that fly around the garden that surrounds the dinning area which makes it a neat experience. This is the first time I ever heard someone (other than Arubians) call my island “very large”. Hahaha, nice video tho ^_^

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  3 роки тому

      Hi @TheUtiateKing1, haha you are funny! Well, we DID think that because it took us months and months to explore all the roads, areas, and really learn the landscape and texture of the island well, the way we wanted to.
      I mean, keep in mind, that the way WE travel is S L O W.... while in Curacao, we were not "tourists" that had only 2 weeks or something to really hit the road and get around everywhere fast and just get a quick "taste"! We moved there for 6 months, we worked during the day and then in the afternoons/evenings we would venture out and go explore slowly a location/road/beach. It was wonderful.
      So, we found that most quieter, local, rural, undeveloped places were at a fair distance from our apartment. They took a good 45 mins to an hour to get to. Curacao is, in our opinion, JUST right for size.
      We can imagine, though, that if a person is born and raised in Curacao and doesn't get to leave the island much, that they would feel that it is NOT large? Is this the case?
      Thank you SO much for your great comment. We enjoyed reading it and got a little giggle! Thank you for taking a few minutes to write it!

    Wow! Curaçao looks beautiful, I just came back from Aruba, I was there for 1 month and I loved it but found it too crowded and way too expensive. I heard Curacoa is less crowded and less expensive. I was shocked at the price of produce in Aruba. I do not drive for medical reasons hence why I chose Aruba since it’s smaller and easier to get around. Thanks again for your video ☺️

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  Рік тому +2

      You're welcome, thank you for watching @Busybee!
      You made a good choice in Aruba for being a smaller island and you not driving. From that stand point you were probably able to see a decent amount within walking distance or taxi ride. But, on the other hand, you likely found yourself limited to the busier areas, with more people and higher prices!! (Stay tuned to out channel...very soon we have an Aruba Cost of Living video coming out that I think you might find interesting!)
      Curacao IS beautiful! Actually, Curacao being so very much larger than Aruba there was miles and miles to explore and get away from busyness. You have your larger metro areas for sure, but you also have so many smaller towns, smaller rural areas, deserted coastal rocky shores, full on huge parks and so on. We actually didn't see everything we wanted to even in 6 months of living there WITH our own vehicle (recommended!).
      So yes, Curacao is less crowded simply because of the larger area. 👍
      But make no mistake it's still crazy and gets awful traffic jams in and around Willemstad!
      We hope you get to go one day.

    • @Lori.Miller
      @Lori.Miller 3 роки тому

      Hi @Yanya Maslova! Oh, you are very welcome for the video! Super glad you liked it and got some good info from it! And REALLY glad you liked some of our other videos too! :) Do you have a favorite?
      We actually did a Google search for car rental companies in Curacao and did some price asking in the weeks leading up to moving to Curacao for our 6 months. I cannot quite remember what we were quoted then, but we ultimately decided to BUY a car.
      Living in 1 place for so long, it made more sense to us to BUY a nice used car that would run well and treat us well for 6 months and then sell it a few weeks before leaving. That way we purchase something in our price range, it's inexpensive to insure, and we can make the selling price super attractive to the next person because we want and NEED to sell it, so everyone gets a GREAT deal!
      When you calculate the cost difference between the 2 options (buying a car and then selling it for a great deal versus renting for a full 6 months) the difference is H U G E . Right? With the rental option you are out of pocket ALL that money. You get non back. With the purchase and sale option, our total vehicle cost is so incredibly low, something like CAD$1000-1500 for 6 months!
      And, the BONUS is that we get to meet awesome people all over the island when looking at cars and going to insurance companies, etc.
      Does that help?

    • @tanyamaslova4377
      @tanyamaslova4377 3 роки тому +2

      @@Lori.Miller Hi Lori, thank you! It makes a lot of sense to buy a car instead of renting. I also googled the prices for car rental and yes, buying a car seems to be much better! I will do that. Do I have a favorite video? Hard to say. I really like that you compare places in your videos , you talk about pluses and minuses of living in Aruba and Curacao, you compare life in Panama and Costa Rica. I find it very helpful when we are trying to make a decision where to go for longer period of time or where to move. I also like your videos about Canada and about Nevada - living in the RV when you are not traveling internationally sounds great - life is simple but not boring and you are not stuck in one place. And probably what I like the most - you show in your videos that this is all possible, that you actually CAN be FREE and live on the Caribbean islands or in your other favorite places. And you do explain the ways how to get there, and this is super! Thank you :)

      Hi @SW! You're welcome, glad you liked it!
      We actually had a tricky time finding a place, before we arrived in Curacao, to rent for 6 months. We DID end up finding one and booking it before we arrived, but it was a long search! Not sure if this is normal for others, but that was our experience. We found things a tad overpriced for what you get also. Note, this was before Covid.....and tourism was booming everywhere....perhaps things are different now with people not traveling as much and landlords in Curacao maybe have had to lower their prices?? You'll have to check online. When we did our traveling to Curacao, in 2017, we did our searching online before hand and it did turn out ok, but once we landed in Curacao and started poking around a bit more just to get an idea of the rental market and availability and we found a few more local companies that offered rentals outside of the websites that we had found from home. So, we looked at a few more villas and apartments, but ended up staying where were were because a) we had already committed to 6 months with our landlord and b) because prices were even HIGHer than what we had found online! Yes, they were larger and more beautiful places, buuuut we just stayed where we were. :) I would not hesitate now to find more local companies and make contact via email, phone and ask for some virtual tours! Let us know what you find!

      The lifestyle IS awesome, we agree! And we want to try to help others live this way also if they want to! Check out our other videos on financial management and living below your means to be able to "buy" your FREEDOM back!
      Our car in Curacao: I believe we purchased the car for around 4800ANG (the Netherlands Antillean Guilder).
      Yes Curacao is so large and has many smaller and rural community roads that you would want your own car. The distances on the island also pretty much require a car.
      I think a Google search for a car rental company would be the best for you because we bought our car and we bought it privately.

      Hi @Rain Drop, first thanks for thinking of us for your question!
      We travelled to and lived in Curacao from November through mid May but all of the months of the year normally have very little variance.
      See:
      www.google.com/search?q=curacao.weather+in+october&oq=curacao.weather+in+october&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30l2j0i390l2.10237j0j7&client=ms-android-samsung-ss&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
      So awesome that plan to visit that island. It is large and interesting for sure. We would say to be sure you rent/buy/'get a car because a car is really the only way to be able to leave the city centre and get out north and west along the less inhabited parts of the island and beaches.

    Are most of the curaçao beaches free or have a cost??

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  Рік тому

      Thanks for your question @DJ Carnes!
      Curacao is such a large island that there are more than 40 beaches (here are our favorites!: ua-cam.com/video/QBz3dM1jwUQ/v-deo.html).
      The vast majority of the numerous beaches on Curacao are free and most of them are not in the built up and touristy zones, they are mostly well outside of the Willemstad area. The ones that are in the touristy zones sometimes have a charge and it's either because someone has purchased the land and developed it (private) or the charge goes toward the cleaning and maintenance of the beach.
      So, most are free!
      There are soooooo many!

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  3 роки тому +2

      Hi @Gary!
      You are most welcome!
      First of all thanks for your question and comment!
      We feel that generally, cost of living would be cheaper in Curacao (our of the 3 ABC islands). It's a bigger island so you can find more food options, market options and for that matter rental apartment options, car options... everything!
      In our experience living in both Aruba and Curacao for 6 months each (a little bit longer term, not just vacation length) we found the cost of groceries/food to be comparable with Canada.
      In Canada for us, two people, the way we eat, we average around the $800/mo mark and sometimes a little more.
      In Aruba we averaged $850/mo and in Curacao we averaged under $800/mo.
      Again, that was our experience but everybody has different eating patterns....this was us eating out at a food truck or restaurant occasionally and cooking most of our things from home.
      I suspect Curacao was a little lower because meats, cheeses, fresh fruits and vegetables were so easily found and with a large population and a good import economy they're getting a lot of good produce and meats and supplies brought into an island with more people.
      And keep in mind if you look at all three of our averages those are SO very close...we feel like around the $800/mo mark in any country is totally reasonable.
      We cannot comment on the cost of eating in Bonaire but having lived on two of the three islands our suspicion is that Bonaire would be a little bit higher because it's a smaller island with less population, less shipping routes going to it, etc.
      I think overall you're going to do fine and all three locations but Curacao I would have the most options available and the lower prices.
      Does this help?

      @@PlanFree Thanks so much for your considerate reply. I've spent 2 weeks on Curacao and 2 on Bonaire in 2017. I'm a scuba diver, so Bonaire to me is the consistent winner. But its small and very sleepy. Aruba to me seems to be a tourist island, and I'm not the biggest beach person. Curacao seems very large, wild and wooly--but so very Dutch. I am tired of the politics in the US. the cost of living (I live in midtown Manhattan), the mass shootings, the crime etc. I would like to live about 20 minutes from a major town where I could buy groceries, but I also want peace and quiet! I am alone in my 50's so I think an apartment would be nice--but apartments aren't usually found away from city centers. Maybe a casita or a bungalow would fit me best. I want to be out of the hurricane belt so that's great. Maybe Curacao wouldn't bore me to death lol. So many things to consider! Thank you again!

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  3 роки тому

      Based on the things you say you like/need we would say Curacao would win for the overall for you, that's just out 2 cents.
      We loved Aruba and the slow pace of life there very much. It was touristy but only really on the one hotel end of the island. The rest of it was just regular people living their lives, going to church, cleaning up the island, working in the business or Gov't sector, lots of insurance companies.... it was all very nice. But Aruba, for us after 6 months became very small very fast! It's a small island! We did love it though.
      We know Bonaire is a diving mecca and wed like to try living there also one day. We just didn't include it in our plans for living there yet because it is also very small and very sleepy....we feel we'd explore it all in a month or 2!
      It sounds like you might want a little more activity, interest, outings, a larger territory to explore, more restaurants, etc. which brings us back around to Curacao again. There's hiking, there are endless roads to explore both quiet and busy and in terms of Villas/apartments/condos/casitas there's just so many more options on Curacao.
      None of the three islands hit the relocation mark for us but if we had to choose one of these three it would probably be Curacao.
      (However the people were much friendlier in Aruba...!)
      If we were you we'd rent in all 3 places for a year each (why not!?) and THEN decide. You'd get a better feel for the people, friendliness, overall longterm welcoming atmosphere. 😉
      Yeah! We're definitely with you with the way North America is changing its politics and view of how society should live. ....fastly becoming not our cup of tea either. 🙏😶
