- Foley artists use objects to create sounds based on a character’s movements and interactions in movies and TV shows. Sometimes, they will find themselves making sounds for animals. Marko Costanzo is a veteran Foley artist for c5 Sound, Inc. He has who worked on movies like “Ice Age,” “Life of Pi,” and “True Grit.” Costanzo explained how complicated it was to make the sounds of a dragonfly flapping its wings in “Men in Black,” and how he captured the footsteps of a dog at different ages in “Marley & Me.” Then, we showed him an animal clip he has never seen before and had him come up with the proper sounds on the spot.

The bird flying sounds are legit, just realize I’ve never paid attention to sound of real bird flying and prolly been hearing fake bird sound my whole life.
That's pretty sad
Well judging by the sound my chicken make, it's more like the sound of friction between individual feathers, rather than the sound of wind resistance against the entire wing.
you hear bird sounds every morning if you live in the right climate
So you mean you never spooked a group of pigeons on the street?
Eazzy Cheesy you need to go outside more.
Now when I watch a film, I will just imagine a guy in a basement making the noises.
I used to think that all these special sound effects in animation movies are computer generated.
@Hungama Toons They said they use to think that, maybe when they were a kid.. Kids don't know everything genius
I can imagine a future where this becomes a reality to some degree. We already have softwares capable of mimicking a person's voice and even ones that allow those voices to sing. They may not be perfect but similar or more advance methods could be used for games (and other mediums) to generate sound on the fly.
Yeah I thought that this wasn't a thing anymore. I'm glad Foley Artists still exist despite how a majority of this could be done with audio samples you find on UA-cam
@@littenfire3563 Finding audio samples on youtube would take longer and produce lower quality results

Who was your comment to.??
"He makes sounds"
Why no one is talking about the man who mixed all these sounds and produced that work.
It's kinda sad that how much love we show to actors while these artists are doing lot of brilliant works.
Stunt doubles, risking their lives. When considering action movies, most of the scenes are fighting/stunt scenes and stunt doubles are doing it, while the character hero/heroine taking rest and getting paid more and more. Also if you consider the superhero movies there are lot of script writing, story writing, Character design, environment design and many, but do we know who did all the works? No. We know who's the actor of the movie, but we don't know who wrote the script and who designed all these designs/animations, etc... We're praising, recognising and giving so much love for every single actor/actress like Rock, Vin D, Robert D Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett J and many... but we're not praising or recognising these kinda brilliant artists. Rick stunts, this man, and many talented artists are becoming unknown to people.
The stunt people,Foley artists, grips and everyone else that it takes to make a movie are acknowledged in the credits but few people sit through them. They see Fin or The End they're up and heading for the exits.Their loss!
@@srkbtw they get there name in the credits at least and I’m sure they get a decent wage so it’s not all bad I guess
@@Onbat123 yeah but some people are struggling during their crunch time and not getting enough wages during that time.

Imagine hearing a dog yawn in a movie and thinking “oh my god! That’s so cute!” But it turns out it’s just some dude who made the noise.
Furries must get regularly bamboozled.
@@maneatingloveseat Nobody is going to question a sound in middle of a movie, really. I think anyone would be equally as likely to be fooled in such case. But I bet I could tell the difference if I was specifically asked to.
I own a cat, and that lion part sounded so wrong. if you listen closely to the lion claw sounds, you can hear a nail bend and make a horrible screech. a cat's nails don't bend and make a screeching sound. And they make the sound of the material actually getting punctured with like a needle.
And there is no sound when a cat opens it's mouth, there's a sound only when the mouth closes.
And tbh furries if anyone get linked tons of homevideos of exotic animals, we know what the fox says and it's not ringading or hati hati ho, much to my dissapointment...
Did you really kill a man with a shoe
Why don't they just film the dog yawning? Lol
@@piippiz Sorry for the late reply, UA-cam did not notify me of your reply.
Yeah, I could not quite place it but something about the foley in this video was slightly off. Now I understand what was the reason haha, you sound pretty experienced/educated in this matter.
And I was using 'bamboozled' in a sexual context, like traps, for example, that's why I specifically mentioned furries (nothing wrong with them, I hope I did not give off that impression).

The sounds for the lion cub also weren't really what you would really hear. It would be much more quiet. The sounds also fill the whole room, while by making them and just presenting them to a microphone, this isn't really captured as well. But the way it is done really lets you sink deeper into the action.

It's weird how once I'm aware of the foley sounds, the clip with the lion cub feels fake. But if I didn't know I probably wouldn't suspect a thing.
Once I learned what a Foley artist was, its definitely made me more attentive in movies, which kind of sucks, but i also appreciate how cool it is and try to block it out
It feels fake because the sounds that cub would be making wouldn't be as loud from the distance they were filming. If it was close up shots of the actions then the volume would fit.

It is kinda sad how much focus we put on the actors and actresses when so many people doing different things that make a movie great are behind it.
Novineux ikr and dont forget the stuntman. most of actors aint not doing high risk scenes by themself.
i barely focus on the actors anymore, i think about camera work, coloring, effects, scripts, light. unless it's a movie i want to watch for the story itself then i'd focus on the whole film.
Novineux What exactly is so scary about it?
@@iburahimu3911 it's scary how unfair it is.
