Anthony really needs to stop listening to good music. He’s handing 8s, 9s and 10s out like crazy.

Fuck the genres..this is an epic album. Good music is good music. Timeless. This album makes me happy
Thank you I needed someone to say that
Never heard this group’s music before today but holy hell, this record rips and I’m in love with it.
One of the big reasons I fuck with the melon, I get exposed to music I wouldn’t have otherwise. Thanks, Anthony.
The way they blend dream pop-ish sound with post hardcore sound is just so nice, the transition between each song may not be the best, but somehow its still cohesive. Definitely a breath of fresh air for me

Agreed. Time + Space is my personal favorite but I think Glow On is a more important masterpiece that changes the game completely
I agree.
This is solid stuff.
Can’t wait to see where they go next.
Hell yeah. From fuckin' old ragers like Out Of Rage to WILD WRLD, they just keep making cooler stuff.
"Impressive as fuck record by record" yes, but personally, I like their sound most during Nonstop Feeling.
Didn’t know “dream punk” was a thing, thanks Melon.
Also the riffs on this album hit so hard
fyi, dreampunk already exits as a vaporwave adjacent genre so you might not find what you're looking for if you're searching for more music like this album.
Hundredth kinda did the same, hardcore outfit turned very dreamy like Hyperview by Title fight - still very good though

Heard this today. Really Impressed by the guitar tones. They sounded processed yet very powerful. Loved it!
Finally a normal comment 😭
Yes! Was very impressed by the drum sound too when I heard blackout, must check out the rest of the album
That's probably my gripe with the albums. The guitar and bass riffs are dope and the drums are wild but to me it sounds too processed, especially the vocals and guitar tone. It feels weird listening to it, I feel like I should like it but I kinda dont.
Noise gating the guitar is pretty common in hardcore/post hardcore so you get those breakneck stops
The bass tone is sick.
I can smell the dorito crusted screens, the donda fans are coming.

Don't worry we have donda for that
@@johnwayne1091 let's be honest here donda ain't a ten
This was easily a 10/10 record to me, probably my AOTY to be honest. It's just so amazingly cohesive and beautiful to be honest. Songs like UNDERWATER BOI, and NEW HEART DESIGN are among my favorites along with the bangers of HOLIDAY and BLACKOUT. Also the first time I heard that piano riff on DON'T PLAY, I was transported. I could honestly see this t-shirt being worn by hyperpop girls and rappers alike, it just feels so good to me. 8's about what I expected from Fantano, but this album just made me feel so great, so happy. Fantano can joke about 'dudebros forming a genre' or whatever, but I think this album is pushing boundaries forward without abandoning sound and edge and I can't say enough good things about how it makes me feel. I kiss this album straight on the lips.
UNDERWATER BOI is incredible, and LONELY DEZIRES is an incredible outro that fits the sweeter hazier side of the album... but that's just his opinion ~
Agreed brother
HARD agree
DON'T PLAY was hands down my favorite. That main guitar riff reminded me of some of The Offspring's cooler songs off their first handful of albums where they had that vaguely sinister Latin sound
To be honest you are indeed very honest ;)

Don’t Play is my favourite on the record too!
That chorus is straight up like something off Faith No More’s King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime.

Record of the year. Especially when you look at the live performances that have been happening this week. The kind of heart & fire we haven’t seen in years

I'm glad Fantano is digging this new record it's arguably the band's best and it's fairly unique I love it, slowly becoming one of my all time favourites
Personally I love their step2rhythm ep the best, but I think if you’re coming at it from being music in general, and not hardcore, then yea this is arguably their best.
@@Quadruple_curious yeah I definitely wasn't expecting something so...light but in time and space they were experimenting with this kind of sound and it works REALLY well, I really like nonstop feelings also though it's got a lot of true blue hardcore bangers on there, pun intendend

I think Time + Space is their best and most consistently brilliant album. Definitely more hardcore than Glow On but still more “alternative” than S2R and NSF.
Glow On is a great record, but I do think it falls down a bit on the back end, very front loaded record. But I’m loving the Faith No More vibes on Don’t Play!
This record and Shame's Drunk Tank Pink are definitely my favorite rock records of the year.
Duuuude, this is so sick seeing you do Turnstile. Good review! I’ve only heard and enjoyed the album Nonstop Feeling. I wasn’t even aware they released a new album but now I’m excited to give it a listen. 👍🏼
I feel so sorry for Turnstile. Majority of people just want Donda
That’s normally how it goes when he reviews lesser known artists, unfortunately. If it’s not people asking for a different review, it’s people making shitty unoriginal jokes about Anthony being racist or something, or both at once.
@@TheIntenseLime gotta say the racist jokes still be making me crack up 😂 Regardless I’m sure there will be some people who listen to them as a result of a good review from Melon so there’s that positive

absolutely agree loved the album. loving this new era of artists mixing post-hardcore and punk and modern indie aesthetics. The one-two punch of Mystery and Blackout is just killer. Definitely a top ten album from this year imo.
Went to the show at Irving two weeks ago... From being a huge fan of their older stuff it was really cool to see the diverse crowd that came for both their old and new stuff. They did play mostly Glow On but still played some classics.
this album came at the right time. i was looking forward to deafheaven making my favorite record for the end of summer, but turnstile really delivered. it's unbelievable how catchy the songs are on this one. it also just exudes this life-affirming attitude while still sounding aggressive and full of energy. love this album.

I had never heard of this band until I stumbled upon "Time & Space" and it ended up being my AOTY. I feel like this one took a bit longer to grow on me because of the slower songs but I realized they're good "catch your breath" tracks. IDK if this will be AOTY but it'll be close.
Listened to this album last night, absolutely awesome. I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna like it or not since I’m a fan of more hardcore stuff, but this album was hard-hitting and catchy and fun all at the same time. Really cool stuff
How has Marlowe gone under the radar? The instrumental alone is a masterpiece.

Donda is probably melon’s most anticipated review
Nah DAMN. was
WLR
Donda is Melons most anticipated POO
yup
Igor was crazy anticipated. Took so long
Been seeing these guys come up over the last year - didn't really know of them previous to this sound they've been moving towards. They've certainly got things down very well... positive hardcore, would be the term to use IMO. They've got a lot in common with Snapcase - less of a hard edge, but same type of sound. Good stuff.
Not so sure about the Snapcase comparison. Progression Through Unlearning is one of the pivotal hardcore or even heavy albums of all time. Snapcase was able to write progressive hardcore that pushed boundaries, sounded fresh and still stayed true to the genre. If Snapcase went to a major label like the Deftones did they would of been one of the biggest bands of the late 90s early 2000s.
Turnstile on the other hand just made a pop rock album that is radio friendly and easy to listen to for the average person, not much more too it. Pretty much impossible to compare bands on a totally different level.
If anyone is a fan of hardcore then definitely check out their older EP, Step 2 Rhythm. Easily one of my favourite hardcore records of the past long while.

Can’t say yet if this is my favorite Turnstile album but every time I listen to it I like it more than the last time. I really liked the dream like flavor they added
I absolutely love this record. I hear so many influences. I hear janes addiction, beasty boys, suicidal tendancies, classic NYC hardcore, lots of late 80's punk influence.
Is hardcore still a thing in Connecticut? It was when I was growing up, so I was interested in what Anthony would say. I mostly agree with him though, so I guess no surprise. Hardcore is such a rigid genre, it’s refreshing to see some experimentation. I would have liked to see even more. It’s interesting listening to them try to walk that line between the hardcore establishment and something a little more harmonic and approachable. For me it’s more a 7, tag line: hardcore for people who are tired of hardcore
Yess 💯 tons
Turnstile is probably the more accessible of hardcore bands and I think this experiment was a success. I don't think they can or should take it further in this direction and should try to explore other ideas. I've seen bands deviate too much from what they originally were that it makes the point of genres meaningless.
This is sooo good! The Latin flavours remind me of what Hostage Calm were going for back on Run For Cover in 2011/12
I can't thank you enough for introducing me to this band, it's restored my faith in music. Cheers, Fantano.

They really have embedded their pop sensibilities with their hardcore roots and created something magical on this album. I never would have thought indie and hip hop sounds could mesh so perfectly with hardcore yet here we are. This is how you redefine a genre

Ice played Underwater Boi at least 5 times a day since it's release.
Perfect pacing, break in the middle and awesome outro. Shame it's such a short song. It's a fantastic break from the other songs and has perfect guitar and drum melody.
Hype is unreal on this one though I like it too. Actually I wanted to ask you how come no new Quicksand albums on reviews? Maybe I missed it somehow?
It's hardcore with some palette cleansers to mix it up. Really fun album and its not a surprise they're getting a ton of attention. Hardcore just isn't all versatile when it comes to sound, so mixing in these other genres/elements makes it more palatable and interesting, while still slappin'. This isn't "selling out" to the punk/hxc nerds - its innovation.
This album is so good, and the way they rolled it out was a lot of fun too.
What did they do?
@@Ten_Thousand_Locusts For a while there, they were putting out a new single/video every week. Towards the end they put out an 11-minute, 3-song video. That might not sound super exciting, but hearing a new song every week, especially when they were so good, definitely got me pumped.
