I think a lot of people say 'bad production' when they mean, "I don't like the beats"
Yeah
This is the correct answer.
either that or they dont have the best sound system
well yeah production is literally the beats
@@uzidiagonal No that's exactly the misunderstanding. You can have boring, bad beats that are produced well and awesome, interesting beats that are badly produced.

OK Computer not taking risks? Huh?

This baffled me as well. The most conventional tracks on there aren’t even the rock songs, but the more melodic ones… and even those had melody and layered soundscapes to balance it all out. It is front to back still an amazing sounding record.
Yeah stupid opinion, it could have easily been the death of Radiohead at the time if the risks they took didnt worked.
They litetally had to cut some lyrics from the album because they were too anti establishment

When did people become so obsessed with albums having to be experimental?
@teirvsedei People thinking that something being unique makes it better, some terrible consequence of romanticizing rebellion and uniqueness.

I’m not even a huge Radiohead fan and I think Ok Computer is a masterpiece. Also I still think Climbing Up the Walls is their best song. It gives me the chills every time
I was just listening to this track and got chills as soon as i read your comment.
it is by far their best album (ok i havent listened to in rainbows yet). The thing is that it sounds very modern and organic at the same time, its still rock but sounds diferent that anything else...With kid A they started using eletronic beats and it kinda ruins music for me, sounds repetitive and robotic
Climbing up the walls sounds like a song from another dimension, masterpiece
I went through a time when I listened to a lot of Radiohead. Eventually they became so experimental in their later albums that the songs didn’t really sound like songs anymore. I still respect several of their albums and consider OK Computer a classic though I don’t listen to them much anymore because their music is so damn depressing.
Climbing Up The Walls is one of my least favorites in the album and it's a amazing song, so...

Huey Lewis and The News
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released , Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

everybody else probably did too but they didn't say so

Yeah they need to check the rhimes out on it, they might change their mind
It’s not overrated but it’s not as accessible to modern listeners as Midnight Marauders or maybe even Beats Rhymes & Life are.
Stuff like Electric Relaxtion, Lyrics to Go, Award Tour, God Lives Through, etc seem more accessible to listeners of modern boom bap whereas Low End Theory is a lot more dusty, bass loop, centred, etc.
It’s not terrible or overrated though at all. Just a product or its time and very dated to that era with ATCQ, De La, Digable Planets, etc
@@KaizerMan well said I can definitely see that.
Bubba?
I was never a fan of Lana but Norman Fucking Rockwell is an actually great album and it surprised me lots
I’d argue that while Is This It isn’t one of the most innovative album of all time, the sounds of the record went on to inspire The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, and many of the other big name bands of the 2000s and 2010s making it an incredibly important and influential record.
agreed, is this it is probably the single most influential album in alternative rock this side of the 2000s
People hadn’t written guitar music like that in so long. It was a refreshing return to melodic riffy rock.
I still thinks it's is one of the best albums ever. Could I give a thorough reason why? No. But it just feel like it is. And that's all music has to be for the average consumer
Yeah it’s definitely not like one of the most intellectual albums of all time but I think it’s kind of silly that there’s an unspoken consensus that an album has to be incredibly introspective to be considered an all time great. The lo-fi production on it sounds amazing and every indie band since like 2005 have tried to copy it and nearly all have failed

To me, any criticism of the Door's debut is laughably absurd; It was unique and groundbreaking when it came out and immediately became hugely influential. Today, some 55 years later, it retains a mysterious power and yet is surprisingly listenable. How many great bands can lay claim to anything like it?
king crimson, wu tang clan, nwa, my bloody valentine, the velvet underground, black sabbath, godspeed you black emperor!, slint, joy division, portishead, the smiths, television, death grips, jimi hendrix and many more (still love the doors self titled tho)
Ngl I always thought it was their best record, after light my fire they got bit by the commercial bug and their records got more produced and were missing a certain something. I like the live versions of everything on strange days more than strange days tbh. Ofc they got a grip by morrison hotel but by then they had a pretty different sound
It’s amazing, it’s their best album.
However a lot of bands can lay claim to that, like Joy Division, Sex Pistols, Violent Femmes, Sisters Of Mercy, Portishead

Watermelon as a kid was great but now it just seems overrated plus it’s flavor doesn’t taste as good as it did as a child
@@wk5867 I still like cantaloupe but the flavor for some reason is inconsistent with me. It's either juicy and flavorful or dry and bland.

Do you even Prog Rock bro? Like bruh...King Crimson is tame compared to how long Prog Rock tracks can get. Just look at ELP.

I absolutely love Paul's "Granny Shit". Especially Maxwell. I love the story it tells, the juxtaposition of the cheery sound with the grim lyrics, and the massive amount of variation in the instrumentation.
Same.
I love those kind of songs like Ob la di, maxwell when im 64 etc.
I found Maxwell's Silver Hammer freaking hilarious.
it is actually one of my favorite song by the beatles
Maxwell is hilarious to some, scary to others, deliciously cynical and subversive.
imagine saying Abbey Road is overrated lmaooooo
Yankee4ever2 I literally made the most sarcastic laugh you could possibly make when I first saw that tweet!
Except people hype it up to a level that no record could possibly reach, so by extension it is overrated despite being really good.
@@fullskapunkalchemist3471 Shitty excuse for calling abbey road overrated but ok
@@christiancristof491 nah man they're right enough. Overrated doesn't mean bad, just means not as good as it's made out to be and realistically nothing human and real could ever live up to Abbey Road's hype.
I think people who say that either genuinely don’t get the hype or are just sick of seeing the album art everywhere
Hey Fantano, how about reviewing some classic soul albums? It's a genre I haven't seen touched upon as much on your channel. What's Going On, Quiet Storm, There's a Riot Goin' On, Inspiration Information, The Payback are some suggestions!

10:26 Yes, Kid A was far more ambitious but that doesn't mean OK Computer doesn't deserve it's praise. It did exactly what it should have. It builded on the sounds of the time and also stood the test of time, still being a great and important record to this day.
I only listened to the album first a week ago, and it honestly is one of if not the freshest sounding albums I’ve listened to, maybe short of Electioneering. Even with Electioneering, the entire album stands the test of time very well.
@@kadinfehr785
Everyone always singles out Electioneering as the least interesting track. Why you gotta do my boy like that? The cowbell, the bassline and the crazy guitar solo definitely make it as good and as adventurous as the rest of the album.
Professional Meme Enthusiast 1 I like the song, don’t get me wrong. The album has grown on me so much it’s now my favourite of all time! I think it’s just that Electioneering and Lucky are the least interesting to listen to in my opinion, which isn’t saying much considering i still love the songs. The song is just as good, i can guarantee it’ll grow on me even more than it already has started to with time.
@@kadinfehr785 I listened to the album and I had to check to make sure it actually said 1997 and not 2017
7___k Totally! It’s been 3 months and it’s still my favourite all time album, although In Rainbows is also up near the very top too! if you haven’t, listen to OKNOTOK, it’s got some really good B-sides and rereleased tracks!

I adore the Doors and the s/t album but I burst out laughing with that smash mouth reference
When I don’t enjoy a critically acclaimed album I just kinda have to realize that it just means that the music isn’t for me
Critical acclaim doesn’t matter at all for me. There’s plenty of albums that have gotten unanimous acclaim (as much as such a thing exists) that I find totally derivative, stupid, and uninteresting.
OK Computer is rated quite right. It is nearly perfect in every way. I'm not even a big fan of Radiohead. But the sound and impact of that album is undeniable.

I actually really like The Bends and might even group it with my fav Radiohead albums. Maybe that's because I'm a bit of a normie and I haven't devoted quite enough time to really get into stuff like Kid A and Amnesiac, but I dunno man, I guess I just like the 'conventional alt rock' sound. That's kinda my preferred era of music (not that I don't listen to new stuff). My Iron Lung rips and High and Dry is a beautiful song.
