I saw Turnstile at a sold out Aragon Ballroom last month. Most crowd movement I've experienced in 15+ years, and I love how huge they've become. The future of the scene is in good hands.
Best new band I’ve heard in a really long time, I finally gave them a shot cuz I kept seeing them pop up places and saw they are supporting Blink on their tour. Watched some live performances and fell in love. Bringing in those melodic hooks to the hardcore sound is beautiful.
The Perry Farrell/Jane’s Addiction comparison is spot on. Since Perry said JA was hugely influenced by Bad Brains you can see where the punk crossover lies.
I think most professionals musicians does. If you practice long or hard enough you kinda have that ability to listen by ear and figure out the chords. Technically theres scales too so when a song starts in A most of the time the rest of the chords would go to F G or C

I didn’t expect that, but nice to hear one of my favourite musician talking about another band I love! It’s cool to hear your opinion on different genres, like those alternatives rock bands
Shoutout for Love/Hate at the beginning there! Was my favourite band of that era and Blackout in the Redroom is easily in my top 3 albums of all time. Straight ahead no nonsense booze soaked rock n roll
Brilliant! I grew up in Baltimore. There was a great punk/alternative scene there. I left in 1998. One of my finest memories was of the band Wrathchild. Shannon Larkin, The current drummer of Godsmack was originally in that band and a buddy of mine. Thank you for turning us on to this band!
This is the equivalent of handing a buddy a tape of a band and saying "what ya think of these boys" just like back in the day, I love it, exactly where rock n roll needs to be. Unmolested by corporate bullshit.
They sound like Perry Farrell doing the vocals for a Helmet song. The way they are doing about 16 layer tracks in the background for their drum and bass sound is also very Helmet like, so much like it that I looked it up and the producer Brian McTernan one of his favorite albums is Helmet - Meantime .
I see what you mean, and I like it. "Meantime" was in heavy rotation at my place for a couple years too. Now I have to go check out these Turnstile folks more, and also listen to Helmet some more again - it's been a while.
I’ve only just discovered Turnstile so decided to give them a listen and didn’t expect to find Justin doing a reaction to their music and appreciating them to, great video.
When I hear Blackout, I immediately think Scorpions and their classic 1982 song/album. Love/Hate's Blackout in the Red Room is cool too, came out in 1990, Turnstile's Blackout in 2021.
I was a little kid with no hair under my arms when I saw the Scorpions' "Blackout" album in the rack at my local library. The cover scared the dickens out of me, so of course I checked it out and took it home... and I've been a Scorpions fan ever since. (yes, young whippersnappers, back in the 80s public libraries had actual vinyl records you could just borrow for a couple weeks, it was cool as hell)
My fiancé and I caught them in St. Louis last month and were blown away from the jump! They held their own in such a way that I haven’t personally seen before! ❤❤
I always had a problem with finding new music and liking it. I only listen to old things I know very well and I have hard time liking new music (not only new to me, but I talking music made nowadays even though I’m only 22). But I really like it surprisingly! I was head banging as soon as I heard first few notes! I think it might go into my playlist and I’m thankful for that! Really big thank you Justin for showing me new music and also showing that today’s music isn’t always shit!
Well I'm retired so plenty of time to check stuff out. I think it's a great time for listening, because all the old stuff is there, at your fingertips and there's so much that's new. I realise that there's tons of formula, company musak going on, which makes life hard for real musicians, along with covid....but did real artists ever really do it for the money anyway.....

all those riffs are brady ebert who was apparently kicked out of the band. daniel fang (drummer) has a restraining order against him. i heard crack is involved lol.
Really impressive band. I remember when Nonstop Feeling came out the hxc gatekeepers were complaining about clean vocals and alt rock influence. Look how much further they’ve reached out since. Nonstop Feeling is still my favourite of theirs and not everything on Glow On clicked for me but it’s remarkable what they’ve been able to do with hardcore music. I think I’d have to describe most of Glow On as post-hardcore though
The guitars are tuned in D standard (DGCFAD) and the drummer uses one of those electronic percussion pads for the percussion bits (live at least, might be the real thing on the album).

I'm 39 and I'm rarely blown away by bands who only formed in the last decade or so but Turnstile really are the best thing I've discovered in ages.
