Sum 41 - Faint [Linkin Park Cover] ft. Mike Shinoda [HD]

- Опубліковано 10 кві 2020
- We can’t be on stage right now, so let’s go back to Reading Festival 2018 for a little bit of "Faint" with Mike Shinoda.
A little back story to this performance. We had only decided to perform this song together about a week before the show. We had no rehearsal whatsoever. On the day of the show we were stuck at customs coming into the UK and it didn’t look like we were even going to make the show. We finally got cleared through and had to try and make our way through all the concert traffic which ended up getting us there 45 min before show time. We quickly said hello to Shinoda, confirmed we were still going to perform together and then scrambled to get ready for our set. It was such a blast to perform this song which is one my favorites, but also nerve racking at the same time. With no rehearsal and practicing in a hotel room a few nights before all I wanted to do was to come in with the utmost respect and try my best to honor the music, Chester, Mike and the Linkin Park band and LP family. No one will ever come close to Chester and that’s not what it was about for any of us. It was purely about the love of the music.

The thing I can never get tired of is watching Mike's constantly smiling face
We were on the worst stages of grief, crying over a man we never personally knew. And that smile gave us hope. That smile is everything
probably for him this is the greatest happiness to be on the big stage again and remember the old days for a couple of minutes
@@IceSpoon So true
@@alohafucku8247 True that
He was this way when I met him back in 2007.
He is not trying to be Chester. He's just an amazing singer trying to replicate something that's lost. Great work and so much love from linkin Park fan base
that's exactly what a cover supposed to be ( to sing the closer to the original singer)
@@warrant_AZ5732 this is exactly what covers aren't lmao
@Warrant AWOL not really. It's to put your own spin on it
I've never heard a better explanation for commemoration
Stop speaking Like you know the Lp family
Seeing Mike so happy when performing warms my heart, you could see he missed it.
I was just about to say that. He looked like he felt refreshed on stage
First thing I thought as well. The second? They sound great!
Yea he sounded great
that smile tells it all!
He looked like he felt fully alivefor the first time!
This is the best Faint cover I've ever heard.
Obviously Chester is in another league, he is just irreplaceable, but Deryck did it far better than other people covering Faint.
And Mike's as good as he always was.
Hats off to Sum 41.

Sum41 is beyond underrated . As a metal head I always appreciated their music. They are more metal than most bands that are classified as metal. I’m going to say metal a few more times just to solidify my annoying presence. Metal. Metal. Metal. That is all
Hahaha I love this comment sm
As a metalhead who listens to Sum 41, I agree with this comment very much
Metal.
Yea metal
yeah bud, 30 million copies sold globally, selling out shows since the early 2000s, going strong for almost 30 years, but yeah, totally underrated. right.
My regret is I never got to see Linkin Park live.
Same dear soldier, same
same here bud! what a shame!!
I wish I could have seen Linkin Park, Pantera, Sublime, Johnny Cash, (the original) Lynyrd Skynyrd (saw the remaining group in 2018, still amazing), there are probably more, I just can't think of any more right now.
Yeah same
Me too😭😭
Mike looked like he’s had the most fun on stage in a long long time.
That's what I thought too. This is the happiest I've seen him since Chester's passing. I bet he really missed performing (especially with Chester) and doing this performance gave him some type of nostalgic feeling.
I wish him the best in life
I think so, as well... As much as I will / and do miss Chester, I smiled at this video. I'm still sad, but I smiled! Wishing you well during all of this.
You all do realize this is from 2018 yeah?
This is probably the happiest hes been on stage since Chester (his longtime best friend) has passed away.... Im glad hes happy. He deserves that after all hes been through.
Damn!!!!! Deryck gave me the chills when he sang Chester's line!! Thanks for the duet!
Yes ! SAME
He did great job
Same, so incredibly well done, this is honoring Chester so much. I'm in chock of this
THIS is how you pay tribute to Chester with honor!
- He sang the song to his best ability with maximum effort
- They played a spot on solo
- Extra drum play at the end
- He thanked everyone at the end said "CHESTER WE MISS YOU"!
Deryck Hats off in front of SUM 41 for providing a beautiful cover and one can tell it came from the heart!

You can see Deryck is giving his all during the chorus. Doing Chester proud

Cory Cantu he did great but no man I don’t agree with you, Chester’s voice is quite different.

Right on!
Incredible respect to deryck for this tribute. Chester would want the music world to remember and experience his works again and again, this isn't replacement, this is honoring the incredible career of chester.
We need Linkin Park to do a reunion tour with Deryck Whibley as lead singer. I think the fans would definitely get behind this
Definitely he is the closest I've heard. There was one guy who was on like Albanian thr voice who was brilliant and sounded chesters double aswell
I think if they ever go back out on the road with a replacement vocalist they will probably need to do what Static -X did after losing Wayne and go on with the "nameless" Xero.
Ivo Rosario's voice is the closest I ever heard

Collin Hanrahan probably emotional playing LP on stage again!
I love when artists love their art and project it out.
I wasn't a huge Lamb of God fan, but when I saw them live at a Mayhem fest, Mark Morton was grinning ear to ear while just shredding and I fell in love. 🤓🤘
@@Rhysthesaint Nah, he has always been like this. If you watch any of his content, he's always looking like a happy, wholesome dude. Could also be a good coping mechanism.
Sum 41 is one hell of a underrated band, their covers they do are phenomenal.
I wouldn't say "underrated", they have like 4 insanely popular songs that radios play all the time. If you play the opening riff to "In too Deep" or "Fat Lip" everyone knows them, they're iconic as hell.
They fell off a bit with underclass hero, but after Underclass they've released nothing but great albums, and are one of the only punk bands that haven't gone all weird with their roots.
Thank god for Tom and Dave, the fast punchy metal riffs with the punk aesthetic is a great combo
@@DrCranberry I’d also add, their last 2 albums are probably close to their best 2 LPs. They’ve matured well.
Yes, super underrated, with their measly 15 million record sales worldwide, their ability to sell out gigs decades after starting out, etc.
Why do people act as though they're onto something that nobody else is, with stupid fucking comments like 'underrated'. Grow up, seriously.
@@DrCranberry I think a lot of people think of them as just another 00s pop punk band though, when they are actually incredibly skilled guys. Their cover of Master of Puppets is still one of the best I’ve ever heard from any non-metal band.
Underrated? huh.
nobody is trying to replace Chester they are keeping his memory/legacy alive
Linkin Park and Fort MInor will always be a part of our teenage years. Thank you.
He did well singing Chester’s sound, vocally justified.
Yup
No doubt yo.

He looks so happy to preform this. Im happy Mike Shinoda is is still carrying Chester with him. I happy Deryck did this!

I think it's just a great change of pace from his usual kind of "solo" performances where he mostly plays sadder versions of songs.
He should do sing few more of lp songs
Yeah that's so sad you know , he really misses his old days 💔
They did great
Holy shit, Deryck absolutely KILLED it as Chester, and that's no small achievement.

What a good collab!
The smiley on his face means everything✌ so glad that sum 41 singer made this a cove tribute of chester
He did a much better job at chesters vocals than I exspected.
SUM 41 is an amazing live band.
Yeah except the part where they just didn’t even attempt the screaming then back to soft transition
@@xxxNotorious You understand that screamo (as well as growling) are vocal techniques right? Very technical as well, you can't just do them because you want to lol, they require a lot of practice. Force them through bad technique and you will blow your vocal chords out at the volume and pitch he would be doing them at. The man has a concert to sing, and probably more if they're on tourney. You want him to just ruin the concert and any upcoming one for one song?
basically the faint chorus vocal part isn't that hard. especially if u don't need to necessarily do the same vocal distortion.
@@saint_peterburger basically this was a song in tribute of chester... Get off the high horse man, that ain't the point... He did great for what it was....
Awesome tribute. Sum 41 and Linkin Park have both been a huge part of my life since I could remember. My dad loved and introduced me to both of these bands, he was a bit older than these fellas but apparently he hung out with them from time to time. I even have an autograph from Deryck in my photo albums from when he met up with my dad in a bar in the Toronto area (they all grew up in Ajax and around the GTA). I was just a baby then, but it's badass to look back on that.
I was going to see Linkin Park and MGK about a week or two before what happened. Family was devastated, I still have those tickets. When my dad passed away from a pulmonary embolism during COVID I played these bands on repeat, along with a few other greats (the Hip, Big Wreck, to name some).
Dave Baksh is also an amazing and kind person. Used to see him floating around the area from time to time when he would post on FB. Friendly to everyone and even agreed to see a video of my friend playing guitar for him! (which we never sent bc we got too nervous lol). It's awesome to see these guys performing together for something so meaningful. RIP Chester and RIP my father, Iggy.
Bro… literally the only other singer to do Chester’s verses justice!!
Go check the Linkin Park tribute band Hybrid Theory, from Portugal. Perhaps the closest so far
You may want to listen to the band trash boat. They covered given up by linkin park. You will be impressed trust me. He even nailed the eternal scream.

I wouldn't go too heavy because Derrick isn't a great screamer. His singing parts were pretty close on this though.
Make a live album. Do a few tributes and even perhaps an original.
@@TonyDanilovich You dont need screams to do a heavy song, also is not the same screaming in a live performance than in a studio.
And also Chester damaged his vocal strings (idk if thats how are they called in english) because of those crazy screams, yes they sound amazing but peoples throats are not supossed to do that.
Linkin Park was the soundtrack to my late teens and early 20s and will always be my favorite band on that alone. I love that other bands from around that time are paying tribute to Chester.. I hope everyone appreciates that as well.
How did I not know about this! Linkin Park and Sum 41 were my two favorite bands back when I was in high school. So awesome to see Mike Shinoda share the stage with Sum 42!
I don't know if people know how good Mike Shinoda actually is, he can play several instruments and his rapping is always on point. He's singing has also been developing over the years into something quite wonderful. And he seems like a thorugh and through good guy overall. Love the guy!

Thanks for keeping Chester's memories alive.
Thats what I was thinking you can tell ole dude doesn't scream much. But I tell you what a hell of a job tho better then I could of ever done that's for damn sure
That's a common misconception with Chester's voice. It wasn't power that he had, it was incredible control. Absolutely mind blowing control of his breath and diaphragm.
That's why, despite clearly having very much metal influences, they do the music they do. Their more youthful appearance and his voice suit the genre much more than if they did thrash. They did what worked for them on a professional level.
Can't really fault them for that.
Hai guys..
I hope your like my cover this song
Listen to my cover in my chanel..

perfect cover of Linkin Park - Faint. u r welcome
All respect to Chester he’s irreplaceable. Deryck did a phenomenal job on the song!
Wow, freaking amazing! Two of my favorite bands back in High School.
Always so much fun to see how happy Mike Shinoda is to keep singing the several Linkin Park hits, all in memory of CHESTER!!! So many bands (and rappers like Jay-Z) constantly cover Linkin Park songs BECAUSE THEY ALL LOVE CHESTER!!!
"Chester, we miss you"
Aww, that made me tear up. Yes, we all do
This was unbelievable... What a tribute to Chester! Am almost in tears.
One of the best covers ever!!!
Amazing singer, great work achieving what is needed for making a good performance beside LP
Yee...sum41 This band used to be famous in Indonesia when I was in high school, and this is with the Linkin Park band .. my all-time favorite band
Masa sih

I don't know what we did to deserve this, just thank you
I just saw these guys last night. Great show! I would love to see more LP songs like this, Deryck crushed it. It would be awesome to hear some of those songs live again.
Mike is loving this

"Chester we miss you" ❤
They should just get him to do a LP tour with them. His voice is spot on. Not shocked. It's his range.
@@licensedtoill9278 Yes, he did this song well, but that doesn't mean he could replace Chester.
1. Listen to him doing The Catalyst at the tribute show- missed half the notes.
2. One of the things that were so great about Chester was his ability to use so many vocal styles. Just because Deryck managed to do a song that sounds similar to how he usually sings doesn't mean he could pull other styles off- for example, do you think he could sing What I've done? Breaking The Habit? Castle Of Glass? I don't think he could match Chester's clean vocals- or screams like in Given Up for example. There's a reason they didn't do the bridge here... Deryck can't do it.
Don't get me wrong, I love him and I love Sum 41, but he wouldn't be a good replacement for Chester.
@@licensedtoill9278 I'm aware of that. I didn't say they should continue with Chester (although, apparently some idiots do say that- in a recent interview Mike was asked if LP would use a hologram version of Chester in future tours). All I said is that Deryck would not be a good choice for his replacement.
he cant do the scream, you noticed he skipped it?
@@davidturner5225 when I was 17 I couldnt scream. At 19 I could. Anything can be trained for. Dude has the vocal strength to learn that FAST if he wanted to do so.
@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid it took me all of about a year with zero singing background to learn how to scream. My buddy who spent all of HS in choir picked it up within a couple weeks. Its not that he CAN'T do it. He just never had a reason to. I have no doubt that he could learn it just as quickly if not faster (with a real trainer) than my buddy did. If you watched him on stage during that show he wasn't over what had happened. This literally happened to the majority of performances during any memorial show.
i'm actually surprised by how good it sounded.
I always come back to this video when I need cheering up, its an amazing cover and seeing Mike so happy just warms my heart so much.
The smile on Shinoda's face make my soul smile as well. RIP Chester. Won't ever forget my first concert growing up. August 30th 2004, at the Fiddler's Green Amphitheater in Colorado. Love all you guys!
His smile just speaks 'I am so happy I get to perform this song live again'
I saw them on that tour. They played with Less Than Jake, Snoop Dogg, and Korn. One of the best concerts I’ve been to. It was my first as well.
Shinoda looks the same he did 20 years ago.
Like red hair, chin-beard and earrings?
dont you know Mike is a time traveler?
He used to have coloured hair, he looks the same as like 10years ago, not 20
@@randalhopper3289 ten years ago he had an emo hair dude
@@matheusperez2487 in like 2010 he looked pretty much the same as now
Derek, thank you❤❤❤ so much more
Loving this! Mike really loves to perform! Not often you see a guy smiling so much while performing.
He's not Chester, but he's damn close in this song.
Nobody can be Chester bro, this is as close as you can get though
I need scream
He also was great in The Catalyst at the Chester tribute concert
"I yAaam" lol ehh
