I've always liked the VW Fox, it's a great first car for you. Oh you never forget your first car - so exciting. Loving the banana yellow which will make you very visible, and therefore safer, on the road. And you will definitely be able to find your car in the car park.
Great to see you with your first car. One of my joys has always been looking after my cars You will always look back on your first car with great affection. my first was a a two year old Ford Popular 1172 cc XNP 117 in 1962.best wishes Alan
hi Harley, great, well done looks a great car. would suggest you do an oil change and check the air cleaner unless you know when it was last done, my first car was a ford anglia 105e in 1969,happy xmas,
Well done Harley ,a great and sensible choice. Most enthusiasts always look back with affection of their first car and regret selling years later when trying to trace them , I know I wished I'd found somewhere to keep mine when upgrading to the second so better make some space , possibly alongside dad's A40 ? !.
Congratulations, Harley! A great buy that I know you will enjoy, and having been around cars and.an intelligent chap, you will treasure and be sensible when out with mates. So well done, be very careful and be even safer😚! Rob
With those presentation skills you maybe the next Quentin Wilson.. you have one fox decal for reversing on the Driver's door and as a learner you'll be doing plenty of that. Did your mum not mind you using her toothbrush for the cleaning job.? Try to use warm water for your bucket of shampoo as it agitates the dirt better than cold and it keeps your hands warmer. Well done Harley. Keep your first car episodes coming. Sean.
Congratulations Harley on getting your first car looks great first time I've seen one I don't think we had them in Australia enjoy it will be great to follow your journey with it cheers
A VW, a fine choice, I'm on my 6th car now which is a vw golf estate, not a single mechanical problem in 60k miles. Good luck when you come to take your test, happy and safe motoring 👍
Congratulations Harley, I'm not familiar with the model of car but it looks like an awesome first car. It was interesting what said about rust in Toyotas, they had quite a reputation here for years as being "rust buckets" and I would think that the salt they put on your roads would take the rust level up several notches on what we had. I wish you many very happy times with your car, long may she serve you well.
I drove Geo Metros for many hundreds of thousands of miles. I loved the 3 cylinders. They sound like a formula 1 car on an onramp! LOL Even a vw! We never got those over here. It's very cool. Wishing you many trouble free hours of happy motoring!
Congratulations Harley! I had never heard of that VW Fox until I watched this post. Being in the US we hadn't seen a VW Fox since the early 1990's and it was a very different car. Your car has just 5 HP less than my first car, a 1974 Renault 12 L. With a smaller car like yours that will still be enough HP to have some fun. Three cylinder cars always have an odd sound, but should have good torque for the displacement. Saab had 2 cycle 3 cylinder cars for quite a while. Your tour around the car shows the car was well kept, but as you say, once you detail it out it will look as new again. Just keep an eye on your mates if they try to bring in snacks or drinks or if you transport rugby team members after a match, eh?
Well done Harley, a great choice, we have two VW Ups as modern cars, both turbos, one is a GTI, great cars, love the 3 cylinder sound! I'd keep the sticker in the rear window and don't forget to clean your dad's toothbrush! 😅
Well done Harley! That looks like a solid little machine. I hope it serves you well for many years to come. My "first car" was a 1971 Ford Pinto (safety was not a big point on those). I got it when it was only four years old and it was already pretty much wrung out. It only lasted a few more years before rust took its tole. Modern cars are built substantially stronger and are lasting much longer. Take good care of the Fox and it should keep you on the road for a good while.
Well that answers the question that I believe I asked you twice( age problem) . Have to congratulate you as my first car in 1988 was a mark 1 Jetta in black . A 1.3 C basic but boy do I wish I still had it. Everyone can say that of course but so many of the survivors of these are 99.9% modded. Really hard to find a standard one , especially a basic C. Good luck with that VW , a good choice and you have plenty of time to make it tip top.
Terric video - well done, and you sprung this on us! I know very little about VWs, but it appears to be a sound choice and in very good condition. You'll love the thrum from those three cylinders! An engine with a timing chain is a very wise choice, but don't neglect checking the oil and coolant - they are the live blood of an engine. I'd advise checking if the coolant is due a change. One thing you didn't mention is checking the door drain holes are clear. Don't shove something metal up the holes as that scrapes off the paint and the doors will still rust. Doubtless Mr OCC will have advice to share too, and I'm impressed that your Mum helped to spruce up the underbonnet! Happy motoring and tinkering, but don't neglect the studies!😃
Congratulations Harley what a great choice and a lovely car. A VW Fox is a very reliable and well built and I simply love a yellow car. It will do you well and a perfect choice for a first car.
Brilliant! Great in every way … and yellow… and 3 cylinder! Fox is a bit of a classic itself! Easy enough to get most parts, I imagine. And it’s 3 cylinder! Vroom. Vroom… you can imagine Porsche sounds when you get the revs high enough 🤭. That is just the coolest first car. Well may you wear, Harley. Oh .. and it’s 3 cylinder! Not a boring 4. It’s half a six - the best engines !! Good luck, man. 👍. Galvaniiiiised!
I’m thrilled for you Harley. It definitely suits you and yellow is the best colour. I hope we’ll see you upgrading it over the years and maybe join you on a driving lesson or two. A really great first car. Will you be fitting a black box?
My first car was a 1970 vw beetle and I still have it 42 years later fully restored now here’s hoping you keep yours that long many happy miles of motoring Harley 😊
Here in brazil the fox is a loved car, the production was going on until 2022! Almost 20 years in line, the european version is the first one but in 2011 we recived a facelift in exterior and interior, the car become really a beauty, the last ones are very equiped, sometimes we could get a sunroof, a luxury here in brazil.
Good choice Harley. Hope it serves you well. You'll always remember your first car. Enjoy the freedom. Mine was a white Renault 4 by the way. Happy Christmas to all.
Oh, yeah; as many has and will mention, your first car you'll never forget and keeps the memory the rest of your life. My first I bought in 79, was a Ford Zephyr with a 3 litres V6 Zodiac motor. Eauw, that sucker could take the corners and was thirsty like a beer festival on steroids. I've never stopped missing her, haha, One of my next was a 1994 Fiesta, 1,1 motor with 5 gears and app. 50 hp. In this vehicle you learn how to handle the gearbox after how many passengers you've got with you and the quality of the roads;, up and down the hills. In short - its great learning to a start with a minor car instead of a V6, who just rides along with the big guys in the traffic. SO, allow us to follow you on the journey with your land based foxy yellow submarine, haha. HI !😀
Well done Harley, you have a lovely first car there. I remember my first car - a 1963 Bullnose 2 stroke SAAB 96 - also 3 cylinder ! I know how excited you must feel. I had my car before I'd taken my test, and I loved doing all the detailing and tinkering as you have been doing. A VW is a great choice too, very good build quality, and reliability too, so I think you'll be OK with it, and you will be so proud the first time you're allowed out on your own ! I'm not sure about putting spot lights on it though, but each to their own. Again, WELL DONE, it will be fun following your progress with your Fox. Take care 🙂
Very special moment in time. Congrats on a great first car. Mine was a 5 speed Escort GT so I'm very familiar with a down on power three door car. You'll still have a blast in it. Hope you have many miles of enjoyment. Be safe!
Great first car Harley, my first vehicle was a yellow 105E van in 1971 and now I'm running a Primrose yellow Triumph Vitesse, you can't beat a bit of yellow! 😄
I think that’s a great choice! And a great colour too. And there’s nothing wrong in running a ‘more modern’ car as well as an older classic (when the time comes).
Congratulations on the first car, Harley! I love the yellow, makes a pleasant change from the sea of grey and black cars you normally see (mine included!) Drive safe, and good luck with everything.
Congrats! Having a timing chain is really a great feature… It’s not very common anymore and it is a big weight off your shoulders, and it’s yellow! We never got these in the United States, but it looks like an ideal first car.
I hope your little yellow baby does you proud. The rare colour will make it an easy find in car parks after you've gone off shopping. Clean windows and wheels always make a car look buzzing and don't forget to check your tyre pressures regularly. Have fun with it but not in an "Inbetweeners" way 😊
A great choice of car. Lot more car and better than the, nice enough, Aygo or it's brothers. My first car was a 7 year old pale blue and rust HA Vauxhall Viva! First new car I bought myself was a Yellow VW Golf N for £2500. As I was travelling all over Ireland for work the expenses covered the hire purchase and all fuel plus running costs. 👌 Reg: POI 3630 At 2 years old with around 46000 miles I sold it to my boss (for his wife) and bought a new Vauxhall Chevette. Should have got another Golf. Enjoy your yellow Fox and happy motoring.
nice little first car harley. mine was a honda Z 600,quite a rare car in its day. 1973,on a M reg. basically a Honda 600 air cooled twin motorbike engine. surprisingly quick, but like most Japanese cars of the day, the rust worm won in the end. happy motoring, you always remember your first motor. 🤔 👍 😎
Congratulations on your first car, Harley! I’ve never heard of a VW Fox as we don’t get them here in Australia, but it looks like a little ripper to start with! Happy Motoring!
What a great looking car Harley 😊😊 Would look good on my driveway do you want to sell it😊😮the champion sign looks good 👍 Very pleased for you ❤ hope you enjoy driving It All the best with your first car😮😮😮
Here in New Zealand, we didn't get the Fox and I don't recall seeing a Lupo that wasn't a 2nd hand Japanese import...and not that common an import either. The smallest new VW of the era was the Polo. Marvellous little car, the Polo and quite underrated for it's handling (in relative terms, I mean). My first Polo tested the limits of its structural integrity by taking the front off a Nissan Pulsar that pulled out in front of me. The Nissan was completely denuded of its headlights, bumper, valance, grille and anything connected to them. The bonnet, front wings and radiator support panel were also battered and / or dislodged and hanging....and I hit that car at a mere 40km/h (about 23mph). The Polo.....well, it's LF headlight, bumper and radiator support were smashed, the outer wing pushed back about 40mm over the passenger's front door, the inner wing pushed back to the LF strut and the LF lower suspension and wheel were pushed back into the A-pillar. The battery - located in that corner - survived, but the radiator surge tank did not...and poured itself into all the electronic gubbins retained under the battery box. This sounds bad, but guess what? The windscreen was not damaged, the driver's door opened and closed fine, the roof was not buckled and in fact the little car still started up and tried to move when I had a go at getting it out of the middle of the road where I had attempted to avoid the Nissan. The cockpit of the car was still undamaged - nothing had moved a millimetre in there! No airbags deployed in the Polo because it was not considered a big enough crash by its systems. However, the Nissan's bags had gone off - even though that car was going slower than I was - and it had shoved the driver's sunglasses into her face, given her two black eyes and pain in her wrists / thumb joints from where her hands were slammed off the steering wheel. Was I impressed with the little Polo? Was I EVER!!! The Polo had partially ridden up and over the front of the Nissan before coming to rest and it had been a heck of a ride for both the car AND myself. My insurance company wrote it off, but the wreck was rebuilt by the panelbeater, then sold off and went on to do another 230,000km (145k miles roughly) before the car finally retired. I bought another Polo..... Why I mention all this is because your little Fox will have been built along similar lines. If it's one thing German engineers know how to do, it's over-engineering something so that it can take more punishment than it was designed to. Although I hope that the Fox's strength and safety systems do not get tested in your ownership, you can rest assured that they will work better than expected if they come into play. Being a parent myself, it's always a comfort to know my daughters both drive cars with modern safety features as their daily - especially for the first few years of driving. Your little car is four years younger than my first Polo and looks about the same size. Plenty of pep in the 1.4 that was in the Polo and I reckon the 3-cyl 1.2 would certainly give that engine a run for its money. I've driven a few different 3-cyls over the 40 years I've been driving (cor, that makes me sound OLD!!) and they've always left me with a grin on my face. The engines always sound rorty and meaningful when they are accelerating with anything more than gentle pedal pressure and seem to have better torque than I'd expected. I think you will be very happy with the little car - and yes, yellow is a MUCH better colour than grey or charcoal or white!! A red car with a young bloke in it is more likely to get noticed by Mr Plod too...but the yellow is distinctive and suits the shape well. I like the little alloys she's wearing and all. Glad you got that toothbrush into the crevices to get all that gunk out - and she does look better for the attention, for sure! When looking at a car for my daughters to learn to drive in, I picked a vehicle that was a bit beaten up in the body, but still mechanically sound and with a good interior. An extra scuff or two during the learning process would obviously not lessen it's value, yet it was a nice car to sit in and drive and was reliable. I picked a 2003 Mazda 3 (or Axela as their JDM name is) saloon with a 1.5 litre manual driveline. My first daughter started to learn, then went off to Uni about the same time as the second daughter was old enough and wanted to learn. This daughter had always coveted my Mini and was determined that this would be her car. However, after driving the wee Mazda for a few months, she considered that having the safety systems of a modern car around her was a better bet - along with the fact that the continual maintenance on the Mini would potentially eat into her socialising time. When first daughter came back from Uni, she bought her own car - a Mazda 6 (or Atenza) liftback 2.5 litre auto, learned to drive in this and has already covered 8000km (5000 miles) since she got her license in late July. Second daughter is driving the Mazda 3 as she is still a student with an internship, but she's covered 6500km (about 4000 miles) since mid-September! And the poor wee Mini sits waiting for me to do its front wheel bearings at the moment! Me? I daily drive my Triumph Stag and have a Triumph 2500S saloon for the winter months....although the Stag still gets exercised occasionally during that time because we don't get the snow where we are. Right now it's summer, so the Stag is a joy to be out and about in. Anyway, I've gone and written you a book to read there! Hope I managed to keep it interesting enough. I'm rapt you got a little car with a strong pedigree as your first - and she is truly a beaut, mate. A wee word of advice on the customisation though - try to keep the car looking stock standard (although some additional pinstriping wouldn't go amiss), as this will also help keep Mr Plod from watching you too closely. If there is a set of driving lights that will fit into the spaces in the bumper (or be fitted in so they look like they are meant to be there), then go for that over something like a huge pair of Hella Rallye 4000s or Cibie Oscars! Certainly give the interior a bit of customisation, but don't cut into the doors, door cards or panels to fit different speakers or the dash to fit a decent aftermarket stereo. There are speakers and stereos that will fit in the original cavities to replace the OEM offerings and that will be way more powerful and sound way better than the originals too....yet because they fit in the spaces and behind the door cards, they don't stand out as 'modifications' to the average person looking at your car in a carpark when you aren't there. Note also that if you get speakers and a stereo (and spotlights) that fit in spaces already designed for them, it makes it so much easier to put the original items (or blanking plates) back in place when you eventually come to sell the car. I used to have a set of JBL 3-way 6" 150w RMS speakers mounted into a pair of crappy old speaker boxes of a cheap and ancient brand. The speaker was obscured to an onlooker, but still delivered the sound I wanted when driving. If you buy any expensive speakers and end up having to use the speaker covers that came with them, at least take the name badge off so they don't get recognised. One of the other reasons for not taking customisation to the max is that imagine yourself as the bloke who is assessing you on your driving test. If you walk out and see a little yellow car with spots, big wheels and low profile tyres, stickers on the windows, yellow wiper arms and blades and a myriad of other paraphernalia plastered on it, do you think - as the tester - you might be wondering what this young bloke is going to be like on the road when he's got his license? It's your car, mate - it's up to you how you want to dress it up and I'm not trying to tell you what to do...just giving a bit of perspective and hopefully a few helpful tips that make certain things easier. Feel free to take them on board or discard at will, ok? In either case, your Fox looks a lovely little car and I wish you many miles of happiness in it. As a comparison, my first car had 30hp (or thereabouts) - an Austin A30! All the best.
forgot to mention group 1 insurance so fab first car - watch out for leaves under the bonnet they drop down behind the panel and can block the drainage holes and end up with a wet foot well. had it once took off the wipers pulled back the plastic cover along the windscreen and cleared it - a jet wash would probably work too - thats the only design fault i can think of . we have no rust at all although it is looked after - yellow ones seem to stay looking good the paint seems pretty hard mines polishes up like new after 15 years !
In 2000/2010's Brazil, we had some versions of the fox that tried to cannibalize (if not, kill) the most sold car here at the time, the vw gol (not the golf, the GOL) it is a sleekier cheaper version of the polo, i do believe the general parts of the fox and gol are shared here, the fox is a great choice for a family's daily car, but people seem to have chosen the gol due to its story in the country, weird times for the Brazilian Volkswagen. It stopped it's production because of the polo that took the place of both fox and gol for the entry hatchback, but we had some cool unique versions of the fox, like the SpaceFox the CrossFox and the SpaceCross, the fox came with the equivalent generation gol's engine, the EA111 (1.0) Flex engine (could run on both gas or alcohol). My personal favorite is the last generation SpaceFox, it is a wagon version of the normal fox, and it looks very cool in my wagon lover opinion
The feeling of owning a car 🚗 is great just a little advice don't grow a set of devil's horns once behind the wheel lol a great couple of sayings claim your road and treat everyone around you with caution actually I was told treat everyone else as fools lol I'm sure you will do fine great first car 🚗 do like the polo's too good choice 😊
What a great choice.i think the little foxs look cool to. A you going to do your own servicing ? Ive always thought of it as been part of the enjoyment of owing a car.
I think that is a superb choice Harley, VWs are renowned for their quality. I had them for years when I was younger, now I drive Skodas which are VW quality throughout. How soon will you be able to drive on the road? Then the driving test which of course you will sail through! Do you think that insurance will amount to the same as you paid for the car?
have one in yellow 2009 47k original miles - had it nearly 5 years - service and tyres thats it. no new battery no new exhaust . one set of pads. looks mint didnt realise they were galvanised which is a bonus - was about 4700 new although I have air con which was a 1000 opt extra so bear that in mind. drives great but dont be in a rush to get anywhere .good in town an okay on the motorway at 60-65 which is fine these days . be prepared for the range rover, audi q whatevers and other ridiculously oversized cars often driven by impatient road bullies with no spatial awareness to drive write up your backside when they see you in front but hey I just slow down when that happens . its a great car for the money and would thoroughly recommend one with a fsh and preferably owned as mine was by an older couple. the cabin space inside is like a tardis .
@@CarTractionvids indeed apart from living with under 60hp ( heavens know how they only got that out of a 1.2) - however the flip side I guess is the engines wear really well. it really doesn't feel small at all when you're driving - more golf like which is amazing really - quite why they used galvanised steel i dont know as they were all made in Brazil I believe. perhaps other vw's do
Hi. What a disappointment Harley . I really thought you would get something more classy than a VW. Ha ! Only kidding . I like it very much. I have always liked Volkswagons . They are very reliable , and easy cars to drive. I have driven a friends VW beetle years ago. And its in that New York taxi cab yellow. And you are looking very handsome in your xmas sweater. Is it a Ralph Lauren brand ? Enjoy your first car then Harley.
No, the ideal first car is the Toyota Aygo, because everything is cheap and affordable about it, spare parts running costs, etc. and it comes with Toyota reliability.
I've always liked the VW Fox, it's a great first car for you. Oh you never forget your first car - so exciting. Loving the banana yellow which will make you very visible, and therefore safer, on the road. And you will definitely be able to find your car in the car park.
A great sensible first car
Well done! Congrats on your new car.. "You never forget your firsts".. Looking forward to the great memories.. 👏😊

hi Harley, great, well done looks a great car. would suggest you do an oil change and check the air cleaner unless you know when it was last done, my first car was a ford anglia 105e in 1969,happy xmas,
Yep going to do some basic maintenance soon 👌
Well done Harley ,a great and sensible choice. Most enthusiasts always look back with affection of their first car and regret selling years later when trying to trace them , I know I wished I'd found somewhere to keep mine when upgrading to the second so better make some space , possibly alongside dad's A40 ? !.

Love it. My first car was a yellow VW bug.
I owned a vw polo with the 1.2 3cly and drove from new 400,000 kms

Lovely car and I am sure it will be a great runner, VWs have a great reputation for reliability. Well done Harley.😊😊😊
Nice motor! Best wishes for safe and happy motoring.

Take care 🙂
Congratulations & ideal first car & in such great condition, highlighted after your colour coordinated shampoo & wash
Great first car. Good luck Harley.
Congratulations on the first car, Harley! I love the yellow, makes a pleasant change from the sea of grey and black cars you normally see (mine included!)
Drive safe, and good luck with everything.
Thanks Dan - your Panda makes up for the grey in character!
Congrats! Having a timing chain is really a great feature… It’s not very common anymore and it is a big weight off your shoulders, and it’s yellow! We never got these in the United States, but it looks like an ideal first car.
When I bought my first vehicle ('59 Morris 1000 van) I used to DREAM of 54 BHP!
A nice little car for a handsome guy 😉
Reg: POI 3630
At 2 years old with around 46000 miles I sold it to my boss (for his wife) and bought a new Vauxhall Chevette.
Should have got another Golf.
Enjoy your yellow Fox and happy motoring.
A good first car 👍 Bienvenu sur la route
turn the intermittent wipers off😮😅
Yes I've learnt where the switch is now...
nice little first car harley. mine was a honda Z 600,quite a rare car in its day.
What a great looking car Harley 😊😊
Would look good on my driveway do you want to sell it😊😮the champion sign looks good 👍
Very pleased for you ❤ hope you enjoy driving It
All the best with your first car😮😮😮
👍
Looks great mate 💛
Thanks for your comment, I can assure any customisation would be light customisation!
Perfect choice, do keep the dealer stickers, enjoy.
forgot to mention group 1 insurance so fab first car - watch out for leaves under the bonnet they drop down behind the panel and can block the drainage holes and end up with a wet foot well. had it once took off the wipers pulled back the plastic cover along the windscreen and cleared it - a jet wash would probably work too - thats the only design fault i can think of . we have no rust at all although it is looked after - yellow ones seem to stay looking good the paint seems pretty hard mines polishes up like new after 15 years !
i got a c2 1.4 hdi awesome little car
Nice ride, congrats, heck Im >60 and would drive a VeeDub Fox.
I always wanted the newer rabbit but it never took off in the USA.
What a great choice.i think the little foxs look cool to. A you going to do your own servicing ? Ive always thought of it as been part of the enjoyment of owing a car.
Yep it's my responsibility I guess, thanks for watching
I think that is a superb choice Harley, VWs are renowned for their quality. I had them for years when I was younger, now I drive Skodas which are VW quality throughout. How soon will you be able to drive on the road? Then the driving test which of course you will sail through!
Do you think that insurance will amount to the same as you paid for the car?
Thanks, with the way insurance is at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if the insurance was more than the purchase price 🤣
Sorry Dad but that sticker is too far gone, it’s a stain really.
Very tidy for a first car.
have one in yellow 2009 47k original miles - had it nearly 5 years - service and tyres thats it. no new battery no new exhaust . one set of pads. looks mint didnt realise they were galvanised which is a bonus - was about 4700 new although I have air con which was a 1000 opt extra so bear that in mind. drives great but dont be in a rush to get anywhere .good in town an okay on the motorway at 60-65 which is fine these days . be prepared for the range rover, audi q whatevers and other ridiculously oversized cars often driven by impatient road bullies with no spatial awareness to drive write up your backside when they see you in front but hey I just slow down when that happens . its a great car for the money and would thoroughly recommend one with a fsh and preferably owned as mine was by an older couple. the cabin space inside is like a tardis .
Interesting reading, yes I notice that the Foxes seem to have the roomiest interiors out of most smaller cars
@@CarTractionvids indeed apart from living with under 60hp ( heavens know how they only got that out of a 1.2) - however the flip side I guess is the engines wear really well. it really doesn't feel small at all when you're driving - more golf like which is amazing really - quite why they used galvanised steel i dont know as they were all made in Brazil I believe. perhaps other vw's do
Okay Dad, please remember that it's Harley's car. He should make the decision on the stickers.
@worldhello1234 that's what i thought for a long time, but I realise now that these VWs offer all that and a galvanised chassis
My 89 Fox, only new car ever owned.
Damn..I loved that car....almost first love type of thing.
