  • Grenfell Tower Inquiry: A report looking into the deaths of the Grenfell fire victims has finally revealed who is to blame for the disaster.
All 72 deaths in the Grenfell Tower fire were avoidable and the people who lived there were “badly failed” by authorities and the construction industry through incompetence, dishonesty and greed, inquiry chairman Sir Martin Moore-Bick said.
The west London tower block was covered in combustible products because of the “systematic dishonesty” of firms who made and sold the cladding and insulation, inquiry chairman Sir Martin Moore-Bick said.

Isn’t blatantly obvious that the deaths were avoidable??

Every person involved should have, if they had done their roles correctly, have known that the materials were ineffective for safety and were inadequate from a fire hazard. Although they were deemed fire resistant from the suppliers this claimed should have been double checked all the way along the route.

Nice work for the lawyers and this guy. They milked £100 million from taxpayers for this. Seven years. Completely ridiculous costs and timescale.

A far superior coverage of this important report than that thrown up by the BBC!

And, now that its years and years and years later, enough time has passed that the sentences are going to be considerably lighter than they would have had the investigation concluded just one or two years after it happened.

They (plan reviewers and building inspectors) accepted the flame certificates for the panels at face value. When I was a fire inspector in Chicago I would cut a piece of material or take a scrap and burn it with a lighter once on the outside of the building under inspection. You would be surprised how many times we caught Responsible Parties using non-fire rated furnishings and building materials.

From this day forward the London Fire Brigade must appoint a smoke and flame test Inspector that routienly reports to in progress buildings being constructed to remove newly installed building materials for sample flame tests to ensure that ALL building material installed meet or exceed ASTME standards for flame spread and smoke development.
