- Опубліковано 14 тра 2024
- Renowned physicist and pioneer of string theory, Leonard Susskind talks with Brian Greene about some of the biggest breakthroughs in physics. Listen to their wide-ranging conversation about the holographic principle, quantum entanglement, wormholes, the Firewall Paradox, and how string theory has allowed for quantum mechanics and gravity to coexist.
This program is part of the Big Ideas series, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.
Live Sessions are conversations hosted by Brian Greene with world-renowned scientists, including World Science U faculty exploring matter, mind, and the cosmos.

Leonard is like a rockstar of physics. What a legend. Could listen to him for hours.
Leonard Susslknd is one of those rare scientists who can help folks understand incredibly tough physics. He is so pure, i get high just watching his explanations! Thanks Propfessor Susskind for taking time to share with us\. And thanks Brian Greene for facilitating this wonderful interview!
I take my hats off to Professor Greene anytime any day.
leonard susskind and brian greene. two of my most favorite people. what a joy to listen to these two go on for hours
beats a sleeping pill
The former is a mathematician, not a physicist. The latter is a showman, neither a math nor physics maven.
Leonard Susskind is probably an amazing grandpa you can see love and kindness in his eyes
The unsung heroes of Brian Green's presentations are those who bring us the supporting graphics. Perfectly cued perfectly relevant and powerfully revealing.
Greene and Susskind - two great physicists but, equally important, two great and gracious teachers. What better gIft to humanity this holiday season!
Yes they are much more than meets the eye. They are men with giant hearts.
And great popularizers, which is an important and specialized kind of teacher.
yes, and both have genuine modesty...no ego maniacs here.@@mickeybrumfield764
I’m a retired blacksmith who loves physics and has the curiosity of a ten year old, listening to you both is a fascinating insight into the real tough hard work that theoretical physicists do in order to make mathematical sense of the universe. I’d like to thank you if I may for your time in making these constructive discussions available to us, they’re wonderful.

"The heroic age of physics has not passed completely" (Leonard Susskind)
Happy and relieved hearing these words.
And it never passes until your curiosity passes!
I see Leonard Susskind, I click.

To watch it or leave like I did?
I've exhausted all Leonard Susskind media on planet earth. Always eager for new Lenny content.
@@dannygrinuk6420 You actually like to listen him? No matter how much you like the sound of his voice, theres no way you can like to listen to him as much as he likes to listen to himself talk.
Fav scientist hands down. Talk away Lenny.

1:57:34,.... I couldn't agree more, these two are an example of the great ones.

Leonard Susskind always succeeds in conveying the sense of struggle that he experienced while grappling with difficult matters. It takes Brian Greene to ask the right questions and then stay quiet while the explanation unfolds.
🤣
Brian Greene and Leonard Susskind! This is a dream. I am so grateful to you for sharing your time and knowledge. My best regards from Amsterdam.
I know right? This is a conversation I thought I'd never have the pleasure to see! So, so happy rn.
Glad I'm not the only one who is thrilled.
Maybe add Sean Carroll, Juan Maldecena and Roger Penrose, then we have a full panel.
I can't wait for the pandemic to end so I can make my yearly trip to Amsterdam!
The only two physicists that I know of that don't sound condescending or talk over our heads.

Brian, I am sure you have often heard but, I too want to thank you for the exceptional manner in which your work has educated me. You are an exceptional Physicist who are able to make others learn too. Thank you
*Two legends of our time. Brian and Leonard.*
Pushing the boundaries further.
stupid infotainment baby.
Fake Kkona
It is not a matter of pushing the boundaries further, but of reconciling the boundaries from probabilistic to deterministic (from quantum to classical). Indeed that transition that defies all explanation.
The entire collection of Professor Greene's remote live stream presentations during the pandemic should be a mini-series released on PBS. They are of historical significance - culturally, and scientifically.
Indeed, indeed. I couldn't agree more.
Dr Greene you rock so much for doing these.
I hope he never stops 🥺
Brian Geene what a legend in pushing the science to a broader audience

Brian Greene and Leonard Susskind ....the best of all.
Proud to live in this era.
Uh no Greene is stuck on an aging, dying theory that has yet to produce one iota of a testable hypothesis. And Susskind is a vague shadow of Einstein and Hawking. Best of all my ass.
I've been binging Leonard's Stanford lectures lately. Loving it!
Hey, that was me two years ago. ✌️

World Science Festival panels have always given the gem of debates and discussions to learn from. Not to mention how much Susskind has contributed to this field.
Gentlemen, I cannot express how much richer I feel after spending these two hours listening to the both of you.
God bless you for putting together shows like this one. Please continue to be chronicler of our times in regard to physics. Document the thoughts and contributions of great men like Susskind before it's too late. Try also to interview the promising, up-and-coming physicists as well whose new ideas stand a good chance of changing the future of physics. Thank you!!
Brian is vegan? Wtf.
Dr Suskind is a great teacher. I am re-discovering physics with his classical masterpieces.
Love hearing “I don’t know” and being ok with it. Wish there were many others who claim to have the answers be as ok with not knowing.
I haven't watched this yet but I couldn't imagine a more interesting conversation in this realm than Leonard Susslknd and Brian Greene. I am soooo looking forward to this.
I just had exactly the same thought. What an awesome conversation to get to listen in on.
Two great physicists of our time
Brian Greene and Leonard Susskind
Many thanks Professor Greene. The service you are providing is invaluable and exciting.
Lenny saying that he likes how people minds work reminds me of him talking about some string theory aspects in one of his lectures stating, ‘I don’t necessarily think that way anymore’
what do you mean, he doesn't believe string theory anymore?
It was a 2 and a half hour lecture and went many places, It wasn’t string theory as a whole but one little aspect within the lecture.
@@johng7602 plus I also love the fact that he’s not dogmatically holding onto all his ideas, humble enough to change his way of thinking. But of course he sees something in string theory.

Hi Brian I have watched many of your videos I learned a lot from them. I am an admirer of physics especially astrophysics community. I just want to thank you and all of you.
Amazing work Brian and leonard. And most importantly awesome work to world science festival. I love watching anyone at the top of their respective craft and you guys are, could tell it was a little unscripted which in my opinion makes it better but it's still a top-notch program good for you guys.
All interviews are unscripted as far as ive ever known. They have a list of bullet points that they will talk about but ive never known any interview be scripted. Far too time consuming to learn & no guest would ever do it.
@@Avenged666 the guests are physicists, they have more work to do than the time would allow, and to include a scripted thing would take off more time. This is what I love about WSF

I absolutely love you Leonard Susskind! You are incredible with your ability to go old school with physics and philosophy! I adore you. I miss people like you in our education system. Now, we get a bunch of know it all’s and it’s difficult to learn from such teachers!
We need more brilliant individuals on our planet. Are Chinese involved in string theory and quantitive physics? China has more geniuses than any country based on the quantity of people in China. The more working together the better.

Brian Greene needs a Nobel simply for bringing science to the masses. If there isn't an existing category for that then just make it up.

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
Except as a scientist
I would never claim a finite set of possibilities. Thus why mathematics is not a science and
String theory is not science
Theory Space is infinite, beyond all possibility of winnowing and eliminations. That's why Sherlock Holmes jumped off the building in that multi-part documentary about his life and its end.
Unless you've missed something....
