Nice vid Rob, I would like to see you do a test like this, but doing Sunday league football.
Also, it would have been fun to see Mrs Sambles doing a salute at the end of the video, lol.

Hi Rob , loved Mrs Sambles reaction! most agree and disagree by that I have a Canon 50d with a couple of lens in the back of the car. Whole lot came to around £120.00 , this is able to give great images up to a3 with no problems, but my main camera is the Canon 1d mkIV that gives better frames per second/tracking/view finder/metering and other bits. Good vid nice one.

Perhaps the most important difference between a 1000 Euro camera and a 4000 Euro camera is the quality of Auto Focus. At least for 15 years was still so, and I think the things didn’t change much.
I bought my gear for many years. My first camera was a Canon 20D that costs at that time around 2000 Euro. I made pretty good pictures of landscape, street, family and animals. My hobby was to photograph horse races, jumping show, rugby and handball. For the sports I used very good lenses (Canon 70-200mm f2,8, and Canon 135mm f2) but I got very few pictures in focus. Perhaps 1 of 10 shoots was in focus. The well-focused pictures ware good, but they were quite few.
Later I bought a used Canon 1D Mark II N, which costs new around 4500 Euro. This was a huge quantum leap. With this camera perhaps 8 of 10 shoots ware in focus.
Both 20D and 1D Mark II N had almost the same sensor (8M pixel), so the IQ at lower ISO was the same. At ISO 800 the IQ of 1D Mark II N was a little better, because of the larger sensor.

Hey Rob, you should do a comparison between cheap and expensive cameras at high ISOs (like 6400+). To me, most cameras are good under 400. When you start hitting high ISOs, that’s where expensive cameras show their worth.

I got tricked by the Instagram pictures/quality. But doing sports in low light will definitely show the difference. Nice to see Mrs. Sambles :D

Great video, thanks! I'm just starting out and to me its very assuring to know that artistry is more important than gear. I guess it makes sense, I come from a painting background and what makes one painting good over another is certainly not the render quality. Not for what im interested in at least. Thanks for making this clear

Luigi Ghirri used relatively cheap cameras and got his photos printed by a lab. Even in his days he hated gadgetry. He said that people spend more time reading manuals and thinking about the machine than actually taking and thinking about pictures. And he was saying this in the 70s. As this video rightly concludes, unless a specific work like wedding or sport where clients demand a type of print, you do not need super sharp images. Again look at the work of Luigi Ghirri. But there are many other famous photographers who used cheap cameras and produced great images.

Higher end cameras shine in the extreme situations they are used in. Basic everyday situations, most cameras going back at least 5-6 years will do the job well enough. When it comes to speed of focusing and lower light performance that is where the technology helps a drastic amount with a more modern camera. You can stop reading my comment here if you don’t want to read about a recent experience of mine.
I have a Canon R6 and it needed to go in for a warranty issue so I had to switch back to my Canon T6S. I take a lot of photos of my son who is 2 years old and when my son was born the T6S was the only camera I had and did the job great when he was just a little guy laying exactly where we put him but once he started to move more I upgraded to the R6 and thought…oh this is a pretty good upgrade….until I had to go back to my older T6S which is when I realized the night and day difference because I didn’t have the luxury of my R6’s super fast focusing system to rely on. Got my R6 back fairly quickly and super happy with its performance.
Thanks for your videos! They have been very helpful.
