I luv all your finds !!! Before I watch this would you like me to send you a 2 booklets I found? 1 is called,
'The Columbia-Philadelphia Railroad & It's Successor' By William Hasell Wilson, C.E. 1896 it's a light booklet. It's really very interesting. It's copyrighted 1985 in great condition. And I know you like trains like I do.
A friend is coming over Monday & maybe I can get her to give me a ride to the post office. It's 72 pgs long.
Also I found: 1843 History of Bucks County Pennsylvania, a little booklet, perfect condition, reproduced from the original edition, has 171 pgs but very light.
I've been really busy at the Salvation Army church & will try to catch up with your videos. Darn I've missed some live streams but it couldn't be helped. Hope you and family are doing great.👻🤘

Jp I would think this was a very old hydro plant. I say that because of the concrete pillars or support blocks the may have had paddle wheels style rotation that produced power to turn a large generator. The channels may have been used to control flow or it was used to divert sedidame out of the paddle wheel channel at the dam. You always have to have some way to remove sediment dealing in anything to do with surface waters. This technology was around in the 20's And 30ths.. I have 40 years exsperence in the surface water hydraulics. The man hole you went into was very modern I could tell buy the crown the mandhole cover would have fit in the crown the steps were also modern with stainless steel ladder rungs might be a up dated pit used for storm waters etc.. 60's maybe???? Just odd that it was newer than every thing else ??? Strange.
Enjoyed the video as always. Keep up the good work.

I agree with you. I too thought it was a hydro plant. There was one similar to same layout on a lake near where I grew up. The lake was a reservoir and the dam was used to power the local homes.

At 10:10, that is an old air shaft/escapeway, backfilled and filled in, which served the mines of the nearby Truesdale colliery. There was one exactly like that above the old St Nick's breaker which used to be open at the bottom, going off at an angle. You could throw a rock down it and listen to it clunk and thump until it just disappeared out of earshot. SUPER deep.. This one you found was just backfilled better. YOu can see on the sides of the shaft where the metal ladder bars have been cut off with a torch or hacksaw to stop people from climbing down it. These types of shafts were used as secondary emergency exits. The one at St Nicks still had them in place.
The "hole in the ground" led to a pump regulator/flow valve wheel for that settling pond/water source nearby. They put a lot of the machinery in these Northeast collieries like the pump regulator valves underground like that to prevent them from being frozen in winter time.

I think that you are exploring the site of the former Truesdale colliery. The CNJ ran parallel to the road and the colliery was served by the EL RR (Lackawanna RR prior to 1960). The breaker burned down in the late 1960s-around 1966. My guess is that the water was used to wash the coal.

Myself and cliff own multi gas meters and you are right, they are expensive. We are aware of the dangers as we have explored several mines and caves. Safety is very important to us, but this was a very shallow hole with a manhole size opening with more than sufficient ventilation on both sides. We also don't condone or encourage others to do this. We only do it as we have experience.

Beautiful snow scenery for me to cool down in, being that it's currently nearly 90F where I am.🇿🇦

JP, you need some Yaktraks for these kinds of adventures. If you fell and broke a bone, we would never forgive you. ;)

This was amazing Jay. Such a gem of a find. Every time you push yourself. Walking along the dam, descending down into concrete tanks, I thought there were snakes there. You and your buddies are quite something. Such a beautiful place. Some superb photo stills. I think this is one of my favourites. I'd love to see more like this, most definitely. 🌹💟🌹

COOLING POND FOR SOME BIG EQUIPMENT OR METAL / STEEL MANUFACTURER IS MY GUESS??? NOT ENOUGH WATER FLOW TO GENERATE POWER UNLESS THEY USE IT & PUMP IT BACK INTO THE LAKE. WHICH IS VERY POSSIBLE. COOL VIDEEEEEO
