In Oz we have a lot of options along with a local "knock off" of the JD. Prices for the JD here would make you weep (well they make me weep) but it's really the only one to get as nobody has a bad word to say about it.
I bought my manual bender back around 1990 to do race car roll cages , on drag cars and circle track cars . I have made lots of different things with my bender , and have the 1" , 1-1/2" , 1-5/8" and 1-3/4" dies . The best way to not get any squish on the inside is to lock the leading end of the pipe with the bolt so it can't slide back into the die . The thinner the tubing , the more important it is to lock the tubing in place with the bolt . I have done .063 1" tubing and it comes out nice . The Jd Squared bender is going to live forever , I know mine is around 32 years old and has a LOT of bends on it .
Was that difference in the bend due to not going a bit past 90 ? The tube swings back when tension is released ? I’m about ready to get one but am going with the new swag hydraulic mount. I may look at doing that swivel too. My anchors are threaded & recessed for bolts. Safer when not in use. Thanks for your insight on how good JD2 is.
"Nice and CNC'd" Haha. Fit and finish does look great. Thanks for such an in-depth video. I usually double the price and it's fairly close. Worked with a milling machine, too.
I had a model 3 bender for a number of years and bent 1/2" to 2" tubing for a number of projects. The bender worked flawlessly every time. Before buying the JD2 I tried a friend of mine's no-name Chinese bender and it failed miserably on 1", 0.065 wall tube. You get what you pay for.
its a small price to pay for an investment like a bender. you can buy whatever dies you want no problem. awesome vid! dont scrimp on drill bits people!!!! seriously...you get what you pay for.
Your bending was fine, you just did not take the slack out of the degree wheel before you pulled the handle to start the first pull. Common mistake. Nice video.
picked up a heavy steel tube 6ft 3 1/2" with drilled flanged ends from a local scrap yard, the the very nice guy let me have it for free. will cut in half and use for pedestal. a 3Ft piece would have been too good to be true. Im going to see if I can calculate the wall thickness from the external dimensions and just remembered I have a set of telescopic internal gauges, nice maths project for my kids, steel weight and externals should be enough to calculate wall thickness, I couldnt directly measure the ID due to raised welds in the mouth, maybe thats why it was scrapped.
What do you think brother if you had to do it again spend the extra and setup for a hydraulic ram and put it on a pedestal with casters? I apologize if you covered that I bounced around in the video. I'm currently trying to decide if I'm going to buy everything for bending myself or a cagekits jobber, first project is tube front on my LS1 S14.
Wow good to know! Thankfully the price of the 32 vs the model 3 doesn’t go up substantially, maybe they will drop the price with higher volume going to the 32. Im just glad they share dies!!
really depends on where you live as to how common they are. They are fairly uncommon around my state - but yeah chewing on one with a masonry bit is a terrible idea
I ordered it a few years ago and it was in stock so it shipped out the same week. I did however order a new die a few months ago and it took a month for them to ship it. Customer service said they have been very busy this year as the whole tool industry so they can’t keep up with the demand.
Yep definitely I use WD40. I will use a heavier lube when I start working some larger thicker tube. For now the wd40 works well and keeps the raw metal from rusting.
Petrol360 Great video and info. I just received my model 32 bender and added the electric/hydraulic pump. I spoke to Brad from JD2 multiple times and he informed me that lubing is not necessary on their followers or dies so I’m a little conflicted on that issue. My question to you is, will you be doing videos on upcoming EBike builds? I’m very interested in that area of fabrication. Thanks.
I guess I was more upset that I didn’t already have a bit that size, I checked my dads stash and he didn’t either. Oh well iv got it for the next time!

gotta account for bounce back, sometimes to get 90 u gotta go 91 or 2 for spring back.
There will almost always be spring back so to get 90 you'll usually go just past...

@@PercyJackson93 The dies and just as important, the rigidity of the bender as a whole.......much sturdier/beefier components.
@@PercyJackson93 Wise decision......you can always add more dies later as you need them.
Where can get in indea

I put mine on a engine stand welded a 3/8s angle and bolt it down
Right around $1000 for bender and 1 set of dies as of end of 2022
So under rated. great channel bro. cheers
Great information, just a heads-up this unit is no longer available you have to get the 32 series.
That's not that bad of a price. If you build at least a couple or more projects.
Good video
Thank you for taking the time to share
It’s called spring back and you have to go past your ninety degree mark to compensate.
Thank you for this. I'm sold.

I have the Eastwood and it’s the. Same bender as jd sells
and Woodward fab , all use the same dies, dies are cheaper through eBay or summit as well .

Yep I would have now. At the time I didn’t have air in my garage so it an air/hydraulic ram wasn’t an option.
threaded inserts, 1.50 each i have 4 so 5.19 erm bud
Thanks for the good info.
JD2 Will no longer make the Model 3. Focus is now on the Model 32, so if you go the JD2 route, then the price will increase.
Wow good to know! Thankfully the price of the 32 vs the model 3 doesn’t go up substantially, maybe they will drop the price with higher volume going to the 32. Im just glad they share dies!!
@@Petrol360 They do? JD2 lists them separately; up here, Canada, the Model 32 dies are a bit cheaper (maybe not in all cases either)
Most houses have post tension cables running through the slabs so if you hit one when drilling, you've got a big problem. Just a friendly heads up.
really depends on where you live as to how common they are. They are fairly uncommon around my state - but yeah chewing on one with a masonry bit is a terrible idea
Not used in residential in my area
How do you ensure you don't hit them?
You can also fasten these type benders to a pallet . Then you can put them in a corner when not in use.

How long did it take to get yours? I ordered a model 32 still no word..

Thanks for good info. Tip: get a microphone and drop the music when you’re talking. Really anoying sound.
Watching a video with shit video quality but good audio is way better than a video with good video quality and shit audio.
Yep check out the newer videos!
I got mine from walmart webstie for 160, no die
Great price! Must have been on close out. The model3 bender is no longer sold by JD2. Thankfully they still make and sell dies for it!
That same bender at todays prices costs 800 not including the mounting base, pedestal and hardware… 4/2023
You need a better microphone.
You dont have to bolt them to the floor. I put mine on a plate with casters on it.
If its run on air over hydraulic you can but with a manual bender you have to have it fixed to something that won’t move.
@@Petrol360 Why?
The pedestal is only supporting it, the hydraulics arent pushing on the pedestal at all.
Beach&BoardFan the pedestal is bolted to keep the bender from spinning around when he’s pulling on the lever
@@3DPrints4TC Its hydraulic, its not the manual bender...
@@beachboardfan9544 Did you even watch the video? Keyboard warriors be blind.
Just a heads up, you will want to lube the followers up with some soap or an oil.

🤣complains several times about a $17 drill bit. Dude you should be excited to spend anything on tools. Means less went into her purse and makeup.
