8:27 Love those lands, I enjoy playing with REVISED white border lands myself -- reminds me of the 90's when I could sit on my buddies floor cross legged for hours without crippling myself. :D
Remember when Arena had card animations for the first 8 sets or so, and then they realized this wasn't getting eSports like they wanted so they stopped? Yeah, I didn't care about those either.
If someone wore a “protect trans kids” shirt into my house they would be leaving with broken bones
@@MegaMetal96how does it feel to be scared of so many people at all time? Surely it must be exhausting to just be going about your life and then going into a terrified rage due to another person being who they want to.
The professor spamming "your go" in the MTGArena scene is pretty on-point lmfao
Literally got one of those people last night on arena
Not gonna lie, I do it. But I only do it if they’re purposely trying to wait me out so I concede. Because who the hell wants to wait for those timers
Makes sense. People are insanely slow on there.
Thank you so much for having me on this episode with these guys. It was a blast! And HUGE shout out to all of thr crew and editors yall absolutely SLAYED
It’s the frog queen! Hide!
I gotta know where you got that spider shirt it's so cool

"reading the room explains the room" IS GENIUS
Sweeping with a frog and a tree 🌳 🐸
I saw this comment before the video started and I was _very_ excited to see who said it. I love how it took everyone a second to process it 😂
@@kedge...And a bookcase
That little exchange starts at 31:41 btw
☠️💀☠️
“I understand the bookcase on planes you cannot fathom!”
Maybe one of the greatest single lines of speech in the history of us, as a people, so far.
the darting eye contact and tripping over the words really made that comedy gold 😂
It sounds impressive, but it's really not.
A plane is two dimensions of space (with length and width, lacking depth). To 'fathom' something is to measure its depth. You can't measure the depth of something that has no depth. Therefore, *any* plane is a plane you cannot fathom.
So really, he's just saying "I understand the bookcase on some planes." =)
"I took JOINERY in HIGH SCHOOL!"
@@MetaKaios I need the "UM, ACKCHUALLEY" meme for your reply.
Though really, you've selected the definitions to suit your purpose. Alternative accepted definitions work better within context:
fathom
verb
1. understand (a difficult problem or an enigmatic person) after much thought.
plane
noun
2. a level of existence, thought, or development.
Get nerded, Nerd.
I love how Arin plays magic exactly how he plays everything else
Just bumbling through everything going "wouldn't it be funny if"
Oh my God, this bit...beautiful comment.
He shoulda played with the Unfinity cards. Him putting stickers on everything would have made Prof mad, that'd be pretty funny
@@TheSeptethonestly, I'd love an Un-set episode of Shup where each player focuses on a different set in their deck
The patented “Arin Hanson Path of Most Resistance”
I'd love to see a game with Arin and Spice8Rack at the same time just so they can have matching breakdowns :P
Didn't realize how much I wanted that until I read your comment.
If it was an Un- only Commander, that would be a hilarious battle between them.
Spice, Arin, And Rhystic would be my fave line up.
You got your wish, and it was hilarious. (Episode 68)
This is probably the best representation of a usual commander night I've seen recorded.
If you're feeling warm in your loins I'm sorry to tell you that isn't comradery, that's crabs.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I fing LOVE YOU VOXY
HA! * _clap_ * GOT EM!
Or CUMraderie?
I'm... I'm sorry.
Editor put in some serious work this episode and im loving it.
seriously had me crackin!
This is how magic should always be played. A lot of laughter and noone taking themselves too seriously. It's so hard to find that kind of group.
😂 Sweaty players are in every space, but when you can just enjoy the game it's great.
😂 Shame Prof gets mobbed everytime at his own table.
Agreed, you need waders to cope with the sweat at my LGS.
I miss my friend-pod. Stupid work schedules caused by late stage capitalism evils.
Lmao “reading the room explains the room” is a fantastic line
Not so accurate for us autistic folk. 🤷
@@DefenestrateWindows oh absolutely, but it’s a really clever quick riff on the professor’s usual motto.
Lmao I fucking laughed like a maniac at that one
@@DefenestrateWindows cries in no social perception
@@DefenestrateWindows I think he said that for irony and not accuracy.
Somehow Arin Hanson's $50 commander deck has better synergy than all my commander decks combined
The fact that the prof thinks arin can sit still is hilarious
ADHD! Or as Arin once explained it on Game Grumps, “trouble with the good brain juice”
*quietly watches Arin's leg movement under the table*
teacher talking to an adhd student
@@Fopenplop oh my god, it actually is that! I'm getting flashbacks to my schooldays
@@itslexactuallyWhen he said "sit normally" I was like you are aware that "autistic sitting" is a thing? And given everyone in the room plays Magic there's a decent chance they're all autistic. (I, too, play magic and am autistic.)
I love the *insert name of MTG character* method of censoring Prof's cusswords.
Also appreciate the detail of using "Elesh Norn" to censor "mother..."😂
This episode is fantastic! Between the "crappy" decks and the "You haven't seen X" bit, it felt just like a game of commander at home around the kitchen table with friends. Also the editing is top notch!
Good chemistry in this group, need repeat appearances.
This is my favorite bit they have ever done. Arin and Steven are such a good combo
@@brewbush"Does anyone want to cut me?" "Absolutely." "Not like that!"
Gotta love the chaotic energy that Arin brings to the table, never heard Prof curse this much. 🤣
Ok, that Ognis entering edit was hilarious.
This might be my favorite episode....
The editing...
The sidebars....
The random tangents...
SOOOOOOOOO good
🤣🤣🤣
Spencer Crittenden!?! Amazing get! I haven't seen him since HarmonQuest
God I miss that series so much
Me too! Spencer was my favorite part of Harmon quest.
If you saw commander at home he was on that with Olivia and kibler
He does a podcast now. It’s pretty good. He also did a pod on game mastering rpgs that was amazing. Cannot recommend Master Manual highly enough.
@@epicsketchers nothing cringe about it. People can be trans. Kids can be trans. Being trans is natural.
Lots of people dehumanize trans people, and right wingers are actively working to go against medical advice to deny trans kids medical treatment such as hormonal blockers.
I and people like Spencer advocate for doctors and patients, in this case trans kids, to make their decisions freely without government intervention fueled by science denying reactionaries.
"Is Tarmogoyf in here?" Makes me want to see the opposite of this episode, where every card has to be $50 or more
4 player legacy lol
Buddy I KNOW It makes no sense, since Future Sight was Just a couple of years ago, (..right?) But the goyf Is now a 10$ card
Honestly a deck with cards all that expensive would probably be equally as bad, a lot of great cards are not that expensive, you'd have a bunch of like, random cool stuff like tutors, mana drains, etc... and nothing else lol, it would be funny.
@@freshrimp9013 lots of Three Kingdoms cards
@@freshrimp9013shit I looked yesterday on TCG and Demonic Tutor was $900+
I love that pleasant kenobi was just sitting reading a book, looks like he’s waiting to do the next dies to removal 😉
I can’t tell if Vince was actually there, or Prof just happens to have stock footage of him sitting in a chair 😂
This one cracked me up real good!
@@TheViv06 That's what I was wondering. We'll never know, and that makes it funnier.
I love how the "heehoo big number funny" strat actually just rolled over everything

22:47 not far off!! Smörgås is swedish for a sandwich, usually pretty loaded with nice toppings and cold cuts. Bord is table.
So it's like a table filled with delicious sandwiches.
As a swedish man, I aprove of this message.... and Smörgås consists of the two word "Smör" which is "Butter", and "gås" which "goose". So it would be "Buttergoose".
@@dernioshadowedgebut why The goose?
@@dannil9878
When you churn butter, in the beginning of the process, you get these clumps that float to the top. And then they kind of float around, and look like geese according to old swedes. So, "smörgås" actually means "small piece of butter". You'd usually eat such a "smörgås" upon a piece of bread, and eventually "smörgås med bröd" was just shortened to "smörgås" for brevity.
We do enjoy brevity here in Sweden.
I don't know! Why the sand in "sandwich"? (Yeah, it was named after som lord and to be honest I don't know why it is known as Smörgås and that has plagued me all my swedish life)
@@Direktorhkbergdahl svenskarna är ju galna.
Prof and Arin have a "tenured prof hazing new assistant prof" energy
Having Spencer and Arin on the same episode is genius. They work off each other so smoothly and hilariously
This is the best commander content I’ve found. It feels the least “put on” and genuinely feels like just some friends playing magic
I don't think I've seen the previous "best Arin Hanson episode", but I'm pretty sure this is the new best.
"coughing schemer" was fking comedy gold. LOL
Arin coughing during an imitation/bit... Totally intentional
Drinking game: take a shot everytime Arin slams his hand of cards on the table
Are you trying to kill people?
I tried this and now im dead thx
I don't want to die, so no thank you.
I’ve always wanted to see a Yargle deck because I thought they were just a silly lil guy.
This video has made me so happy
I mean, I played Ishod's Shade. Yargle would have been much easier than that but sadly I haven't done it yet. Yargle only made it into my "Frog" deck lead by The Gitrog Monster.
Prof's outfit is so FIRE. Dang.
You know I got hella cool threads.
Arin is just Spencer from iCarly IRL, both physically and mentally lol
Nah man, if arin is anyone from that show, he's carly
@@_underscore_9271He’s all of them
Honestly I loved the Station Agent/various movies tangent partway in. I feel like moments like that are why I like Shuffle Up and Play so much. Other MTG gameplay shows would have probably cut all of that since it had nothing to do with the game
I was so left in stitches by this moment that I had to pause to breathe, I'm so glad they left it in. It reminds me of the banter of my play group immensely and I would love to see this table more often
Feels like a real game I’ve had with friends.
The reason shuffle up and play is so much better that the rest of mtg shows is that they actually include the conversations rather than just rushing through the game. Really makes it feel like a game between friends
I just started following yall. I love magic. Introduced my kids to the game. Just really got back into it really big. Keep playing. Love the jackets Prof.
Idk why, but the: "What? Do you live in a glen?!" Killed me.
I LOVE seeing Arin in non-Gamegrumps related things. Idk, it's just very fun. Always glad to see him on here!
we need to see ALL of these guests again!! I love Arin and re-watch the episodes he is in very frequently, and Taalia and Spencer were immaculate guests!! Both skilled at Magic, both very funny and charismatic. sufficient to say i hope to see them all, if not as a group together, individually back on the channel many many more times!!!!!!
Arin is always really fun. Taalia and Spencer were a real treat! Great episode and honestly these cheap decks are WAY more fun than the crazy ones.
Another video where you get to see the editor's personality. I love it. The friggin coraline reference and the fact that there was no animation so he just explain that in subtitle text like its adult swim or something.
Honestly one of the funnier episodes yet, I want to see them all together again.
The spamming of Your Go by prof in the cutscene was amazing.
38:20 I think that bookcase/bookshelf dispute reset the timeline, so it's pretty logical for Talia to forget she attacked Arin for 22...
13:11 mfw Arin forgets what his commander does on the very first trigger
I really enjoy anytime Arin is on the show, he brings such an energy to tables that I can’t get enough of
I feel the opposite, I find him so annoying. He's like a 9-yr-old who's constantly trying to make everyone laugh.
@@LazarusIsBackBaby agree'd
@@LazarusIsBackBaby1000% this
I'd watch an Arin Hanson podcast with the origin of words.
First episode: Nevada.
this guy is a grumps fan
"I'm sorry for killing you so fast!" This truly is a Commander moment.
56:16 “I understand the Bookcase on planes you cannot fathom.” Such a funny quote, I love it!!! I also loved the whole Bookcase ranting earlier on. 📚
SPENCER CRITTENDEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! What an incredible guest. I'd love to see a series where he DMs for the Prof and friends
More!!!!
I'd love to see all four of you play again, that was genuinely a great game to watch.
This is genuinely one of the funniest MTG games I’ve ever gotten to watch. It matches the feeling of a casual LGS pod perfectly!! The way you all bounce off of each other and play into each others jokes is amazing
SPENCER!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ One of my favorite parts of listening back through Harmontown, was noticing how many mtg references he put into the D&D. I hadn't been playing for years during the initial run, but picked it back up around the time it was ending. I have been weirdly curious to seeing Spencer playing Magic.
Spencer muttering under his breath "Furniture law is compliacted" loooool
I dig how Prof is dressed like the instructor of a Chinese restaurant.
Really appreciate the chill atmosphere of the table. Editor is doing great work as well!
The preview for this video in the endcard of another video made me watch The Station Agent. I ment to when it came out and forgot about it before i got to it. Excellent movie. Would highly recommend.
I was JUST looking at Yargle and Multani and thinking of what to do with them, and then here Taalia is with them! Too funny. She was a treat to watch!
At 36:40 the cut to the guy sitting at the book ''shelf'' got me cracking up good xD
About half an hour into this episode things really do descend into absolute chaos and I love it, Arin's such a gremlin XD
Thank you to the editors for the fantastic animations. Wizards, animate Ognis you cowards!
12:16 “just sit normal” 😂 I feel this is like when I got a talking to when my adhd was going wild at a restaurant lol😂
*effing* SPENCER CRITTENDEN?!? LET'S GOOOOOO
Fantastic episode! The banter and chemistry among you are top quality. I really enjoyed it.
I haven't seen these in a while and i seriously laughed the whole way through. Thank you!
The sheer madness that episodes derail into when the Shuffle Master is on board is glorious to see. Love the energy he brings to the table.
Prof, that suit is fly as hell. That is all.
so glad I decided to binge shuffle up & play again, almost forgot about the politics of bookcase vs bookshelf
This was my favorite episode of this series. Truly phenomenal
Love Spencer on here! He was the first person to inspire me to DM for my friends when I was listening to Harmontown back in the day, many years later I still run a game and it's had a great effect on my life.
If you're reading this, thanks man
Vince's Cameo had me rolling.
Looooved that part
WAIT *slams into comments 9 days later* THERE WAS A "The Station Agent" reference? I unironically LOVE that movie! This might be the best Shuffle Up and Play episode ever
The thing is, Suspicious Bookcase isn't really a bookcase. It's a door disguised as a wall with a bookcase. So it's just as much a wall as Crashing Drawbridge, if not more so.
This is the most unhinged Shuffle Up & Play and I sort of love it. ahaha
To actually witness Taalia secure two commander pop shots, and a sac commander ping. ALL LETHAL. Amazing game, editing, people, and commentary.
Very excited for Spencer Crittenden! I can't wait!
I noticed very early on watching the channel but the editor is honestly amazing for fulfilling all the requests. 99% you just get a nope meme and the video proceeds.
The editor is putting in overtime on this one😂
Seriously, it looks so good. Takes a great video to the next level!
This is the greatest show so far. The editors deserve a raise. Hilarious!😂
gotta be one of the best episodes loved it !
The comedic instincts of Arin and Spencer combined is mighty
I loved everyone here, the chemistry was phenomenal. Would love to see each of these guests again!
I built several good decks around Volrath, The Fallen as a kid - this video brought me so much joy. That was the era I really dug into MTG and it had some insanely fun mechanics.
Taalia crushed it! Somewhere Voxy is screaming in rage at Yargle winning! 😂🤣😜 Hilarious episode everyone, the banter was too funny!
PS, I seen all the movies mentioned 😂 So apparently there is time to watch them all and sooooo many more 😂
amazing episode (died at "reading the room") but now i'm even more excited to see cube next time
i love love loved this episode! you guys had so much fun and I could feel it all the way here :3 made me laugh so many times
we NEED Arin and Spencer back together, the bro-down of the whole episode brought so much joy to my heart and soul
This is Spencer's best gameplay content since Pile of Bullets.
What an incredible episode. LOL'd the entire time. What an awesome group of players! Loved what I could see of the decks too.
I can't believe they got Annie's brother
This is easily my favourite episode of Commander gameplay on YT right now, I was in stitches the whole time and felt like I was outside of my body watching myself play with my friends! Loved it!
Loving all the banter. This is hilarious.
Arin is a comedic genius, and yall need to watch this with CC cause *goblin noises to bring out creative genius* really got me
Super fun episode! Very glad to see Taalia on the show.
Thank you!
The editor is truly the hero of this series. Seems like every episode has a special request.
32:10 the coughing schemer resides within us all
don't know anything about magic, but I've watched game grumps since it started in mid 2012, really surprised to also see spencer here as harmontown was one of my favorite podcasts. what a good time
When he said to Spencer that, among certain circles, he is the most known, he was talking about me. I spent SO MANY hours with Harmontown, Harmonquest, and That Happens
