Unless I am missing something, I didn't see anywhere in the song anything that even suggests homosexuality between these guys. Mirabel said that her tio Felix married Pepa and her dad married Julieta. I understand this is a really fast paced song and you will miss a lot of things if you don't pay close attention but this isn't really leaving any room to think that these guys married each other.
Questioning the status quo and tradition is ESSENTIAL for every generation. It’s how we grow and change as a people on a macro level. Obedience IS NOT always a good thing. If you learn only obedience, you’ll never have the guts to stand up to corrupt, ineffective, immoral leadership. You have to establish a balance, because eventually these kids will grow up and will need independent thinking to have kids of their own. In Christian terms: God wants us to be the best versions of ourselves. No man can enforce Gods law. He gave us free will so we could make our own choices, and gave his only son so we can screw up without burning in hell forever. You have to remember who wrote the Bible and when it was written, I think there’s a modern interpretation of Christianity that we are missing out on.
I think this is a perfect example that the older generations are not always right. Yes they are generally wiser. Yes we should respect and obey them as much as possible. But they aren't perfect. They make mistakes too. There is nothing wrong with the younger generation sometimes having to correct them or showing them where they have gone wrong. It doesn't mean that we respect our parents and grandparents any less. But there is always room to grow. Parents and grandparents have been known to place unrealistic expectations on their children and that is toxic.
yeah how is conforming to an arranged marriage because your grandmother wants you to a good thing? The “you’re a bad influence” was just a lighthearted joke it wasn’t literal
When you say Mirabel lied to her grandmother about going to Bruno's room, I must correct you on that. She technically didn't lie since she didn't really say anything. Her grandmother thinks Mirabel did something to cause Luisa distress; essentially blaming Mirabel when she didn't do anything. Mirabel was trying to explain, but the grandmother makes her nervous so she can't explain properly. Not that the grandmother was even going to listen to her anyway. When people get nervous, it's common for them to screw up what they were saying. It's not so much as lying as it is not coming out right.
ah yes cause having someone influencing you to be yourself and not just go with a marriage cause your grandmother wants you to. And finally breaking out of a mold you don't want, is a bad influence.
It reminds me of the “embracing of tradition” which is dangerous like in the context of the Catholic church considering what they have done, like to children and nuns and such
It can be dangerous but it’s about generational curses and how the trauma of older generations of families can affect those of the younger generations. As a Hispanic American I still respect and love my parents and grandparents very much, and they told me themselves of their pasts that affected one another over time. Sometimes I’ll argue with my mom and it’s clear the things of her past still affect her in some ways and she refuses to confront them still, but that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore her wisdom ever, I learned my morals and principles from her. Also about the whole magic thing, I do believe one should always be careful with what is shown in media including the supernatural like magic, but I also think there is a separation of fiction and reality. If I decide to watch Harry Potter, I know I won’t be practicing anything they do but I’m watching it because it’s entertaining. Though youth is very impressionable and the mind is very delicate so one should always tread carefully
One other thing regarding the magic theme. If you've studied Latin American culture, you'll notice a theme about God bestowing magic upon people who make selfless sacrifices. And not pagan gods, I'm talking about the Christian God. There's a theme in Latino Catholicism where a selfless person makes a tremendous sacrifice, and God rewards them by giving them a miracle in the form of a power. They are tasked by God to use these miracles for the benefit of others; essentially making these people like Moses. The movie ties into that theme by calling the magic a miracle. Because Pedro Madrigal sacrificed himself to protect his village and his family, God blessed the villagers with a miracle that would shield them from anymore harm from outsiders. He blessed Pedro's family with the responsibility to use said miracle for the benefit of others. And for the most part they did, but when people started mistreating Bruno and Mirabel for being 'disappointing', then the magic starts disappearing. Almost as if God decided they weren't worthy of His miracle and decided to take it away at the climax of the film.
As a Christian, I felt abuela was the bad influence when it says in the bible to not worry about everything, Luisa, on the other hand, doesn't get a break, the cause? ABUELA
I have to disagree with you about the message of Isabella's transformation. The entire point is that she was being coerced to make decisions that she didn't agree with just to make other people happy, like being urged to marry someone you don't want to marry. Living in that kind of falsehood was causing her so much distress that it put her in constant bad moods and strained her relationship with Mirabel. Her saying, "You're a bad influence on me," was just her expressing a newly found freedom that she knew, she still wasn't allowed to explore because of their Abuela, but not really about encouraging bad behavior.
This movie was much more about how generational traumas can be passed down and how they can (and do) negatively affect the newer generations. At the end, Mirabel actually tells the Abuela that they're a family because of her and owe her a great debt of gratitude. There's no message in this movie about rebellion against older generations or parents, but that people need to come to mutual understandings to resolve issues. Mirabel eventually sees and understands what her Abuela went through that caused her to raise the family the way she did. For that I have to disagree with you that this movie promotes disobedience and rebellion. Plus, Mirabel's own parents were very supportive of her and were the only ones with the more positive and understanding outlook on their daughter and her situation.
I think we need to be careful exposing children to witchcraft even in fiction as magic and the practise of seeing into the future is something real that people can develop in new age spirituality. These films are priming children to seek a form of spirituality as adults that is not of God.
What do you think about the feminist undertones implying that we don't need men, men are overbearing, absent, or not dependable. I take issue with the strong one that undermines men's physical strength as an asset. She's so physically strong that she doesn't need a man.
Thank you for such a detailed review. I appreciate you taking the time to share your observations. I respect your interpretations and find them very helpful as we consider whether or not to view this film.
Do not reply to this comment with swear words I mean it I hate swear words and don’t reply to this comment with a rude reply either if someone doesn’t like this comment then don’t reply at all. I have worked really hard on this. I thought of an idea and I know this is weird since reality-warping powers are not real but I’ll say it anyway because I wouldn’t be able to do it with time travel. If I had reality-warping powers, I would erase the Croods characters except for Ugga, the Disney dinosaur movie but I would use the deadly meteor shower scene it for my movie, and erase the movie Encanto from existence but I would use the three sisters from Encanto and make them cave girls and make a new movie called Disney Pixar cave people. I would combine the animations of the Disney dinosaur, the Croods, and Encanto. It would have the locations from Disney Dinosaur and the Croods in it and it would be 2 hours and 50 minutes long and make it a musical. It would even have action and adventure in it too. It would have the actresses who did the voices of the three sisters and other people who can sing amazingly. It would have the dinosaurs from Disney Dinosaur (only bigger) and more dinosaurs that we didn’t see in Disney dinosaur that can talk in this movie. Also In this movie, cave people can talk to the plant-eating dinosaurs and they jump high, swing on vines, and climb trees like the lemurs in Disney dinosaur. The meat-eater dinosaurs wouldn’t talk in this movie like they did in the Disney dinosaur movie. There would be more locations in this movie than there were in the Disney dinosaur and the croods movie. The character Aladar would still exist but he wouldn’t be the main character in the movie. The main characters are cave people who live in a cave on an island that looks similar to Lemur island from Disney dinosaur only bigger. There is a mother and a father who have four daughters, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Mirabel is the oldest, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Isabella is the middle daughter, the other two are the youngest and they are twins and both strongly resemble Luisa. The cavewoman who strongly resembles Mirabel is 22 years old, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Isabella is 19 and the twin cavewomen who strongly resemble Luisa are both 15. Also, the cavewoman who looks exactly like Mirabel has a husband who looks exactly like Mariano Guzmán from Encanto and has a daughter of her own named Suri who is 5 years old and looks like a female version of Disney's Tarzan when he was a child and she loves to swing on vines and slide on trees. The twin cavewomen who strongly resemble Luisa are very strong and taller than their sisters just like Luisa is in Encanto but not as tall and strong as her father and they have a close relationship with their niece Suri and always tries to be there for their niece. The cave sisters would have a grandmother who strongly resembles the grandmother from Encanto, a grandfather and three aunts, and three uncles. Ugga from the Croods would be the mother of those three cave girls. The movie would be about a family of cave people who are trying to find a new home after their island home is destroyed by a deadly meteor shower. They will have to travel far and face many dangers that lie ahead of them. For example, Carnotaurs, T-rexes, pterodactyls water meat-eater dinosaurs, raptors, and spinosaurus. Even Earthquakes. There would be a scene where the twin cavewomen who look exactly like Luisa sings a prehistoric version of the song the lion sleeps tonight with their niece Suri while riding on Aladar just to be funny. It would be called the T-Rex sleeps tonight. I would use my reality-warping powers to have this movie released in 2025. I would even use real lands for this movie like they did in Disney’s Dinosaur. This movie would be for adults too because it would have adult jokes in it and other adult things.

Omission of the truth is a lie… the conscience GOD put on our hearts when we were born will tell us that

another fault is the dishonesty thing. The scene w mirabel she never actually says anything she was just accused of causing luisa to lose her gift

God doesn’t bestow magic on people. He bestows miraculous power. But, I understand your point.
Your wrong there are no bad things in encanto.......
EXCEPT ABUELA

I wish you reviewed more movies. Thank you for this

What's your opinion of Lord of the Rings? Particularly of Gandalf?

Just to be perfectly clear other cartoons, comics, & anime have shape shifters in them are all those woke too?

What-
I actually read this...
I still don't understand, But I read it.
Very good and fair review. Honestly I felt the same way about all the critics as you 👍🏻
Literally looking at a coven of witches
Personally I think that movie is terrible.
i think you mean pesimo because its spanish movie... ok
Not much good is coming from Disney and especially with all the agenda recently...
as a muslim i agree with you, actually i'm rethinking letting my kids watch disney for any longer
I am a muslim myself and I definitely view disney movies with a lot of suspicion for the little children, but encanto is clean and wholesome.
