this is just sad but Mirabel is such a great main character. she's been so strong all those years, and trying so hard to earn her family's approval. i wanna give her a hug in this musical number.
The way she says "I'm not fine" she sounded like she was gonna burst into tears which hurts me. Like Mirabel is the first ever Disney protagonist I relate to in a LONG time. She just wants to make her family proud even tho she doesn't have a gift and just want their approval and she tries so hard. I adore her so much and this song is so criminally underrated cause this song many people can relate to and its so beautiful.
@@chocoberryvanillacake4297 funnily enough, I’m the oldest child and I relate to Luisa, Isabela and mirabel. Didn’t even know it was possible but I thought about it for almost a week
I relate soo much with Maribel tbh. I’m Latino for starters, my grandma was colombiana and I’m the youngest of three and my two older two brothers mirror Luisa and Isabel. Similar caretaker personality, similar struggle of not knowing were I’m going or supposed to do
I love when Mirabel says “open your eyes”. That is what abuela says when they are getting their gifts. But Mirabel says it as in “realize how you’re treating me”
And at the end of the movie when Mirabel was holding the new door knob Abuela says “open your eyes. What do you see?” And Mirabel says “I see… Me.” *Instant tears*
When you look back at this song after watching the movie, you see that she does move the mountains of pressure for Luisa, she makes new trees and flowers grow by showing Isabella that she isn’t limited to just flowers and perfection, she heals what’s broken in her family, and she definitely showed the family something new. So she really did do everything she wished she could do in this song.
who would've thought that Mirabel, THE MAIN CHARACTER, would be so underrated by the fandom. everyone loves Camilo, Isabella, etc. but always forget she's such a perfectly built and relatable character. Mirabel is such a queen, I love her, she deserves so much more.
I honestly get so mad about it, she's so cute and my favourite character but everyone is such a simp for Camilo and Bruno that they forget her, they're basically Abuela
I like how, instead of time around Mirabel being completely frozen, it's slowed down greatly, to show that all of these thoughts are running through her head a million miles a minute.
It's so sad that this song is underrated compared to the other ones, this has such a beautiful message and I wish it would be in the spotlight like every other songs from the movie
I feel like most ppl liked the other songs bc they're either more catchier or that they relate to them more like in "under the surface" is the overwhelming pressure on burdens one must overcome for others while "what else can I do" shows how 1 person can limit you from using your FULL potential ♥♥♥
This scene reminds me of myself 🥺the invisible 1 never included in anything, even in funerals or celebrations 💔 I'll always find out from strangers. This hits hard because some of us ain't gifted as others.
It's even worse when you realize it's not even her room. She's still living in the nursery, because she didn't receive her own, magical room in the house.
The part when she sings “open your eyes” repeatedly in front of abuela is soooo amazing because Mirabel did not even look at the candle, which is the source of the powers or seemingly the “miracles.” However, she only looked straight to abuela’s face, begging abuela to “open [her] eyes” to see how much Mirabel is also willing to do for the family and to shine in abuela’s eyes just like others. Mirabel never wanted any magical powers. She only wishes for her family to be proud and to see her as part of them.
In Japanese basically this whole song she just wants a gift so she can fit in instead of wanting people to except her as she is, shich makes it all more depressing.
2:00 when she says “I would heal what’s broken”, she looks right at Camilo, these 2 are the same age and this line and gesture makes me believe that they were super close when they were younger, but driven apart by the family when she never received a gift
Wow that’s deep I wish we got to learn more about Camilo. He really was a great character. I would love to have a sequel where we learn more about him and Dolores
The fact that this is the most relaideble song and when she said “like you blessed US all those years ago” instead of “blessed THEM” that just proves how much she loves her family and she dosen’t care about gifts or no gifts.
She says “I can’t heal what’s broken” but she spends the whole movie trying anyway and she is able to heal the most broken things in her world. And that’s on growth 🐛🦋
This song is underrated. It's so magical, and it's more than just an "I Want" song. It's a song about being excluded, and receiving no social attention from the family because she didn't have a gift that could "contribute" to the community which was what abuela kinda saw. This was evident when they took a family photo without her, and without anybody inviting Mirabel to join. It has a lot of similarities with Surface Pressure, because both characters are pretending they are ok, when they have mental breakdowns on the inside, but in the middle they express their wishes and hope for change.
This is why I love Mirabel as a protagonist - she feels like a real person. Not just in a body image sense (although the fact that she isn't Barbie-shaped does help, I guess), but how she reacts in a moment like this. She's so outwardly mature about the unfair situation she's in - heck, the whole of the first song is her praising her amazing family and affirming her place among them, without a trace of bitterness. But at the end of the day, she's a misunderstood kid who feels left out of the fun, and needs a song like this.
@Lilith Greene She's a 15 year old girl. Like any teenager, she wants to keep herself to herself and doesn't want to show her insecurities. Unfortunately, as Luisa spells out in Surface Pressure, all that pressure of not showing insecurities will topple her over eventually (which it did when Mirabel flat-out argues with Alma (whom she calls "Abuela", since she is Alma's granddaughter!)).
Bro Mirabel is a saint for still loving her family after all the things they put her through. Not getting a gift while your entire family gets one is bad enough, but being ostracised and alienated for years because of it is actually crazy. If that was me, it would be my villain origin story 😂
We're not sure if they didn't actually included her cuz this is just her imagination, she might have been included in the picture, but still doesn't feel she is part of the family. Or they couldn't see her and instead of her mother and father finding her they might thought that she needed space cuz this is a hard night that possibly traumatized her so its understandable if they let mirabel leave the party early...
@@Username-le4eq actually in an earlier scene, Abuela DOES tell Mirabel to stay on the side during Antonio’s ceremony. She wanted her out of sight and away from everyone the whole time. And knowing the character of Abuela during most of the movie, she likely told the rest of the family that she didn’t want her included and to act like she never existed. And no one would dare defy Abuela at this point, which explains why even Julieta and Augustín, who are the best parents ever, didn’t mention Mirabel not being in the picture or even asked if she wanted to be included. Because they were afraid of going against Abuela’s wishes.
When Mirabel sings "Come on I'm ready", green fireworks burst behind her, representing how Bruno (and his prophecy) is what propels Mirabel into saving the miracle! There are so many amazing details in this movie!
I just realized this song summaries everything that happens. Mirabel does move a mountain, she heals the family, she leads her sister to grow new trees/flowers, and she builds a whole new house for them. So she does everything she says she would do for her miracle. She even opens the eyes of everyone of the issues in the house. The song tells you everything.
@@theRAV4000 Both figuratively and literally. Cuz she shifted the “mountains of pressure” off Luisa, and the mountains at the end of the movie are split open
I think anyone who has been the "disappointment" in the family can relate to Mirabel. All your siblings and cousins can do so much, but you're... just you, and you feel judged, as if lesser than. The one who didn't finish college. The one who didn't get all A's in high school. The one who didn't make Varsity. The one who didn't get scholarships. Mirabel is so painfully relatable, it's why I love this movie so much.
I've been there. I was the first grandchild of the favorite brother but all of my tias and tios loved my Grandpa's youngest grandchildren because one was a boy, of course, who had scholarships pouring out from the best colleges and the youngest granddaughter was valedictorian who was going to travel to New York to study for a phd. Me? I was the shy, quiet, antisocial anime nerd who barely graduated. It was.... Not easy hearing the praises for those 2 at family gatherings. Dont get me wrong, I love my cousins and we get along great. Thankfully I did have my Grandma because she said that I was special in my own way. She reminded me of talents I had that my cousin's didn't and that I can make a good life for myself without a college education, I just have to work harder.
@@AliSakurai I get what you mean, I'm the only one in my family who was born with a neurological disorder and because of that I also have learning disabilities and all of my cousins are way smarter than I am and it hurt a lot growing up just realizing how different I was compared to everyone else in my family and how I felt like I would never be able to do enough like all of them could
The fun thing about being anyone millennial or younger, is that you can achieve all those things, and still be stuck waiting for a miracle just so you can have a house, or a family, any work life balance, or otherwise live any sort of fulfilling life in this economy. 🥲 Even the ""golden"" kids in the economy get to feel like disappointments.
What I really love about Mirabel is how much she really stands out compared to past Disney female leads she really feels like a real person nothing about her character feels forced or fake because she genuinely is going with the narrative of a unstable family in a realistic and humanized way. I love how Encanto’s writing at all did not have much tropes or bias written in and how they really touched on their characters in a mature and respected manner for representing trauma and Mirabel overall was beautifully well done
The fact that this song is underrated, and not in the spotlight like most of the songs in the movies is honestly poetic, since this song is about being set aside, and away from the spotlight like the rest...
I mean, I agree it's not talked about as much, but it's still more talked about than the opening or ending songs, and the spanish one I forgot the name of (sorry I don't know spanish), and at least right now, it's beat both We don't talk about Bruno and Surface Pressure on trending.
The fun thing is, she actually did move the mountains (they separated when the candle burnt out) and she did make new trees and flowers grow (by helping Isabella not force herself to be perfect) and she healed what was broken (their family).
Fun fact: due to COVID, the voice actors had to record their lines from home, and Stephanie Beatriz was actually pregnant at the time. During this song, she actually went into labour (and powered through it), and the director(s) at the end of the song mentioned how she managed to portray such pain in her voice - they didn't know her water had just broke mid-song.
Fun fact- This song is actually written in a totally different beat than the other songs of the movie to show how Mirabel is an outsider in her own family, not singing in the same tempo
Meanwhile Bruno who is also an Outsider: I have rats and I can RaP lmao (well yeah he did rap in All of You song near the end of the movie tho but lmao).
After hearing this song like a bunch of times I realized that Mirabel was telling the truth: *SPOILER* "I will move the mountains", when she confronts abuela and the candle fades the mountains literally move and open, "Make new trees and flowers grow", when she helps Isabella they do exactly that, "I will heal whats broken", literally heals the broken bonds of her family and their miracle and in "Show this family something new" A miracle that doesn't need for them to be perfect and unhappy.
This is so deep and reflect the realities of so many individuals who are constantly ignored by their family and not considered good enough. It's really philosophical and psychological how much we're pushed by external assessment into self limitation. Whereas we could shine brightly and explore the full depths of our potential
I totally agree! Even more: Actually, i think this is the most interesting song in the soundtrack, in musical terms. The song is a mix of Bambuco (a traditional music genre in Colombia), with a flavor of "Diva style" Pop Songs with a string arrangement à la Disney. The 6/8 Time Signature, the production with tamboras, acoustic guitars, minor percussion and the Drums, Bass, guitar standard meeting an orchestral arrangement is quite impressive. Lin-Manuel Miranda is, perhaps, one of the most important musicians in this two decades of the 21st Century, indeed!
They post this lately because it contain more spoiler in the movie than the other music. Thats why "All Of You" will be the last MV to release. Same as "Show Yourself" Frozen 2. Evenryone waiting for the MV but Disney release 5 months late.
I really struggled with depression recently, and I couldn’t get this song out of my head. It took me a while to realize how well the lyrics fit what I was going through ❤
I was the black sheep of my family, and once found a photo of them taken without me too. This scene hit absolutely hard and made me empathize with Mirabel a lot
I'm so sorry for that, ik the feeling maybe ask your family to not exclude you? And explain how it hurts you and how would they feel if they were in your place :( hope it gets better for u :D have a great day ❤️
Same!😭 and it’s so hard to talk to them cuz feelings aren’t really openly talked about, they’re just shoved deep into your mind, so far that sometimes you yourself don’t know why you feel a certain way😭 it’s hard but I hope it gets better for the both of us☺️💕
@@cici5039 sorry about that I guess we all went through like Mirabel went through. Brother works with computers, and my two sisters are a kindergarten teacher, and a nurse. While I'm just a guy that just types on my mom's computer. Hopefully when I work at Pixar I'll be up there like them.
“Those are the songs that you sing to yourself in the mirror because you, as a kid, don't exactly know what to do with all the feelings and thoughts. And somehow this song has given you a gateway into trying to figure out who you are in the world and what you want, where you belong.” - Stephanie Beatriz on recording “Waiting on a Miracle”
@UnicornShy007 plays RBLX. they didn't said that Mirabel is a middle kid, they're the middle kid and I suppose that they said that bc the middle kid is the "forgotten" idk I saw people saying that
By the end of the film, Mirabel actually fulfilled the things she said she wanted to do in this song, whether directly or indirectly. "I would move the mountains" Her outburst with Abuela caused the mountains surrounding the town to crack and shift "Make new trees and flowers grow" she did this by making Isabela realize that she was capable of creating so much more with her powers "I would heal what's broken" she found a way to heal what was broken with her family "Show this family something new" was best said in her All of You line "I think it's time you learn you're more than just your gift"
This literally the main character’s most iconic solo song. Like Elsa’s “Let It Go” or Moana’s “How Far I Go”, it speaks Mirabel’s heart who’s wanting to find its purpose. This deserves more recognition!
My favourite part of this song visually is when all the fireworks go off towards the end. It really sums up all of Mirabel’s emotions like she’s putting her heart on her sleeve :o
The first line is what gets me, “Don’t be upset, or mad at all. Don’t feel regret, or sad at all.” I relate completely, feeling like I’m worth so much less than everyone around me and I’m just waiting for my turn to shine, my turn to be recognized, but I repress those thoughts and emotions to avoid hurting others. Mirabel’s emotional growth throughout the movie absolutely destroys me and I can’t control my tears :')
I felt those words in the song too. And your comment described everything I feel. I had to screen shot it if you don't mind. I felt everything you wrote. 🥺🥰
“I’m fine, I’m totally fine” I love how all three sisters (Mirabel, Isabela, and Luisa) said something that parallels to how they all pretended to be okay with their situation. Luisa in surface pressure, Mirabel in this song, and Isabela in We don’t talk about Bruno said this softly in the chorus (with a pained expression).
It literally only occured to me now that Mirabelle end up doing all the things she wishes she could do in this song. Her actions end up moving the mountains, causing new flowers to grow, healing her family, and showing her family a new way forward. That's so cool!
Honestly the best number in this movie and the best "I want song" in a Disney movie. It blends perfectly inside the movie, the picture is beautiful and the song feels so true and personal. I wish it was more popular.
Love how the family picture they take here mirrors the one at the end, not only in the fact Mirabel is finally a part of it but also how genuine the ending photo is of an actual family compared to this one. Here everyone is posing, showing off their powers, Luisa holding a Boulder, Pepa having a rainbow, Isabela gracefully making petals etc. really highlights the sort of image the madrigels had, not one as a family but idolised individuals defined by their powers.
When Mirabel sang the part "Open you eyes" in front of Abuela felt like she was begging her to appreciate and see her as herself not just as a member of the family that didn't receive a gift.
@@StrongMajor1178 I know and I'm glad that she redeemed herself in a way. Did she had a hard time losing her husband and taking care of her family all alone? Yes and that was very sad and difficult... but that wasn't an excuse to be extra hard on Mirabel, having Luisa carrying with everything (like in The Family Madrigal song when Luisa is running shouting “Coming Abuela “ and not to mention 'Surface Pressure') and maybe even having favoritism with Isabella.
The last line where she shouts “when you gave us a miracle” gives me chills every time. Amazing job To all the people who helped create this masterpiece!
As a Colombian, this movie was very moving. It’s so comforting to know that a part of our history is represented through the many emotional situations. After abuelo Pedro’s death, even though he was not present anymore physically, he actually set the tools for Alma and the family later on to find the essence of family unity. The candle was just the symbol that nothing is indispensable or eternal. At the end the candle and it’s flame vanished but the love and the unity proved to be stronger. Mirabel asks for a miracle but what she doesn’t realize is that she is part of the miracle that was born out of the big sacrifice. She is the magic that let the family express their true feelings just so they could be valued not by their powers, but by who they are. Nobody before Mirabel asked Luisa or Isabella how they felt, and the fact that Mirabel had this power to set them free and liberate them from their powers in a way is something that gets very underrated. She had the great power of reuniting Bruno with the family and the people who misunderstood his prophecies. Don’t tell me Mirabel doesn’t have any powers because deep inside she is the most powerful of all!
Talk all you want, we all know Mirabel’s true gift is creating incredible dance numbers with transitioning environments for her family XD But seriously, I believe you’re right about Mirabel’s true gift, how she heals her family, and ensures that they are more than their gift. Her real door is the one she and her family made, and I think her room is casita itself.
This song is ignored just like Mirabel’s family ignores her 😭 it’s such a good song! It deserves more hype stop telling me how popular the song is now when i wrote this when it had less views
To be fair, it’s on its 2nd week on the Billboard Hot100 - and since none of these songs appear to be getting radio airplay, that’s all streams & purchases. The Encanto soundtrack is an embarrassment of riches, really.
I can't believe Stephanie Beatriz recorded this right before having a baby. I did a choir concert when I was 8 months pregnant and I know just how much that affects your breath support.
Probably the most relatable encanto song for me (although Im an only child), due to past trauma and things that affect me because of it I’ve always felt like an outsider, just a black sheep who can never do anything right. Also, the firework going off when mirabel says “Come on, I’m ready!” Gives me goosebumps every time in such a good way
I just realized Mirabel did all the things she said she would in this song. She cracked the mountain open helped Luisa find a new side to her power which caused new flowers to grow, She healed what was broken and helped build the new house. She was literally the catalyst for everything.
As soon as she said "I'm not fine" I almost busted out in tears. This whole movie is an emotional rollercoaster ride. Especially when you have a big family like this.
Every Madrigal granddaughter said at some point that they're fine (Mirabel here, Luisa just before Surface Pressure, and Isabela and Dolores during the madrigal part of We Don't Talk About Bruno). In each case, they were not.
Not even having a big family. If you have parents who treat you like a doormat/ ignore your pain, this movie will make you cry. I think I bursted into tears around here too.
Yeah the first lines of the song hit me different. “Don’t upset, or mad at all. Don’t feel regret, or sad at all. Hey I’m still part of the family madrigal. And I’m fine, I am totally fine. I will stand on the side as you shine. I’m not fine. I’m not fine.” I can just so relate to them.
Fun Fact: Stephanie Beatriz (The voice actor who portrays Mirabel) was 9 months pregnant when she recorded waiting on a miracle, she gave birth about 48 hours after her final recording of the song!
The choreography of her and the camera's movement is so interesting. She walks behind her family, because she's always been in their shadow. She stands on the roof because her spirit is riding high, until she remembers that it's a hopeless dream, and she finishes the song in the dark, alone, and at the lowest part of the house. I love this movie so much.
I love how the sparkles of the magic she imagines disappears at the end of the song, like how all her hopes of being blessed with a miracle ends with it.
mirabel is honestly so pretty. in personality and appearance, she's just such a beautifully created character and i truly love that she was the main character. i love that this movie shows us the vulnerabilities of so many of the characters, because it helps us relate to them. mirabel is an amazing, beautifully created character and this song truly lets her shine! also can we talk about how pretty the skirt physics are? i love her dancing sm
If you think about it they are all burdened with something Pepa- to control her emotions Bruno- Everyone thinks every vision he sees is his fault Julieta- to heal and take care of eveyone Camillo- to make everyone smile Dolores- to keep everything she hear a secret Antonio- Nothing(Abuela was still figuring that out) Luisa- to carry every family burden and problems Isabela- to be perfect for the family Maribel- Burdened with not having powers
Antonio: possibly kill his friends and justify it when they follow their animal nature and try to harm humans? Belonging to to both worlds, human and animal, and at the same time belonging in neither- he can't live with the animals as he is not one of them and he can't feel accepted by humans truly
I love how selfless she is. If she hadnt saved the miracle, everybody would be normal just like her, but not once did that even cross her mind. She just wanted to make her family proud and save their gifts.
I love how this movie touches on Generational trauma but also how being the “least talented” kid can have effects on a person especially if your siblings all are good at something, and even when trying she still “messes” up in their families eyes
How about being the least talented person of all the people you know? That's my life. You see everyone else being happy, taking things like having girlfriends for granted while you are forever alone and useless... Then when you express your sadness or even bitterness you get called an incel because you are not a disney princess singing a song about how your heart is broken...
@@Dan55888 Look everybody feels like that.. not everybody but enough people. Life sucks and everyone else looks like they’re doing fine. Someone looks at you and while they’re struggling they think you’re doing fine you’re not they’re not it sucks but it’s how the world is. I’ve been the worst at plenty of things honestly sometimes it sucks but you just have to get over it and realize you may. It be the best but you could be a lot worse too.
@@Dan55888 You don't get happiness thrown at you by others..infact you draw people in the happier you are. So the only one who can give you what you want is you. If you want something, take it. If you want to be good at something, learn it and practice until you got it right. If you want a girlfriend, be you so a person that fits you can notice you. Sounds ridiculous but the more you care for yourself and take care of yourself (in any way really) the better things get. The better you take care, the better you will feel and that will result in achievements and lead to self confidence in the long run. (I'd also suggest waiting with a gf until you found some balance with yourself. It's hard to balance life with someone else otherwise if you're not ok yourself to begin with. And a girlfriend can't fix you even if it gives temporary happiness. A pair leans on one another and she can't lean on something that's broken when stuff gets heavy for her sometimes too.)
Mirabel is probably the best protagonist written in a Disney movie : even though she feels excluded from the rest of the family, she only wants them to be proud of her and she loves her family.
Most of the Disney princesses are excluded to their family. Moana, mulan, rapunzel, the princess in the movie brave, elsa and anna, ariel, belle and others more i didn’t mention
@@apdroidgeek1737 not in the same way mirabel is though. the way mira is written makes her feel like a real person and her reactions and intentions are so relatable
I love how mirabel foreshadows the entire rest of the movie in this one song. “I can’t move the mountains” she does, when the mountains split open. “I can’t make new flowers bloom” she indirectly does this when she helps Isabella, causing her to grow new flowers. Later in the song she sings “show this family something new” while again staring straight at Isabella. Everytime she sings about not being able to do something, it’s always something she does indirectly through her family members. I absolutely love this movie and this song specifically!
And she says 'she can't heal what's broken' but in the end, she fixed the family, Abuela's tyranny and restore's Bruno's place in the family. Shes actually the most impactful family member, even without a powers.
The moment she says "I'm not fine... I'm not fine!" fucking hits man. Shit's so relatable to anyone who's ever grown up always feeling like the disappointment in the family, or like the outcast around everyone else always trying to figure out just what the fuck they can do to have someone see something of worth inside of them That ending, too omfg. "Am i too late for a miracle...?" The existential dread of forever being stuck with this inner pain of never being good enough, always wanting to be more than what you are but feeling like there's no hope of ever changing When i tell y'all the waterworks were going listening to this song 😭😭😭
Right? I can feel the pain when she says "I'm fine, I am totally fine" and then she breaks herself saying "I'm not fine, I'm not fine" Heartbreaking T_T
the saddest part for me is the fact that mirabel was forced to develop such maturity at such an early age to understand and cope with what she felt. the "don't feel upset or mad at all, i'm still a part of the family madrigal" shows how mature she is forced to be in order to "not hurt the family" and "make abuela proud". it's so sad to think about how many children are forced to grow up early and act like adults due to family pressure.
@Durple Dumpster 2 Mirabel isn't "normal" because she didn't get a gift like her sisters, her mother, her aunts/uncle, and cousins did. Other than Tios Felix and Augustin who married into the family, she's the only one who didn't get a gift. So yes, she's not normal and she's kinda neglected because of that.
Yes! Im just 12 and I feel like i lost a good part of my childhood, i feel like a adult because I was always forced to develop maturity since my 8's, i feel Envy of the kids of my age that still playing without any worries
And I feel so sorry for my little sister because she will probably pass through the same, and what if she can't get to my "record"? I just hope my mom don't put so much pressure in her And I feel guilty for the things she will have to go though...
@@idk-zw1dd don't tell the internet your age. But I can relate on that. My mom is strict and overprotective which means highscores on tests and no playing outside without her approval even though my grandma would say it's okay. And my grandma told me that the father that is always at work is actually not my dad at all, and I learned that when I was 8 or 9. And I never really thought about it but I was taking that big secret like an adult, I just accepted it
@Flora i sure do relate to her in that aspect... it's absolutely crushing to imagine how healthier family relations could be if we discussed this, but unfortunately most people who've watched Encanto completely missed this point 🤡
Literally all of the things she mentions in this song she actually does do in the movie and/or embody. -- "I can't move the mountains", "I would move the mountains" - She moves Luisa (the mountain in this analogy) to stop carrying so much of a burden. Also, her actions literally lead to the mountains around the Encanto shattering down the middle. -- "I can't make the flowers bloom", "make new trees and flowers grow" - She helps her sister Isabella, the flower in this analogy, bloom into expanding her powers and being herself instead of staying trapped by what is expected of her. -- "I can't heal what's broken", "I would heal what's broken" - Self-explanatory for helping heal the family in the end. A nice mention here is that Augustin mentions to Julieta in "All of You" that, "She takes after you", further reinforcing this point. -- "can't control the morning rain or a hurricane" - This one can easily be an analogy for how, similar to how Pepa's emotions are what cause her to change the weather, Mirabel has been controlling her emotions for the last 10 years ever since she didn't receive a gift. She has been controlling her internal emotional weather despite the pain of wanting to belong and be special like her family. Essentially Mirabel embodies everyone her entire family (those who have gifts), similar to how she has something representative of every family member embroidered on her outfit. Let's not forget how she casually interacts with/talks to the Toucan in Bruno's tower (easy nod to Antonio's gift) and how right after this song she has a premonition of Casita cracking and crumbling (Bruno's gift). She also hears and knows an awful lot about what is going on in the family (kind of a nod to Dolores) and she remains flexible and pursues different ways/methods of trying to fix the miracle (also kind of a nod to Camilo). She effectively has Abuela's gift, bringing the family together despite not actually having a magical gift per-say. Her gift is that she has no gift, and can see the family members for who they are despite their gifts. She appeals to their humanity.
this is quite literally one of the most gorgeous scenes in animation from the song to the visuals everything about it is perfect in my opinion. every time i watch it i end up in tears.
"I would move the mountains" "I would heal whats broken" "I am ready, cmon im ready" This hits me in the feels 🥺 Mirabel would be the most powerful Madrigal if she had powers. But, even without powers she's the most special ☺
She doesn’t have a gift, that’s the whole point, she is not the miracle either, she’s just a normal girl who saved her family out of sheer determination
2:13 The lines "Here I go" and "I'm ready", are usually used as hopeful lines in Disney songs. In fact, the pose with her standing in front of the fireworks while her hair whips around is a reference to both Ariel and Moana. But in Mirabel's case, they are some of the most painful and heart wrenching lines, even more so for people who empathizes with her character. It's the words of someone who is just trying to comfort themselves and build, presumably, hopeless expectations. It's even more evident with the line repeating and interrupting the momentum of the song.
yes! also how most of those songs end on a high note of hopefulness like moana in how far I’ll go, let it go, etc. but when mirabel hits the highnote it has the complete opposite feel to that she’s desperately begging for a miracle
she did show something new. SHE saved the power, SHE saved her family, and SHE did that without powers. Mirabel is such an amazing character and is so relatable to many people
This is my favorite song from Encanto for sure. It speaks of wanting to “fit in,” not just in a shallow way, but in a desperately earnest way. Mirabel’s ready to work hard, do anything to be of use and value to her family. She loves them so much that petty jealousy is nowhere near enough to express how she feels about the rest of her family, nor is “wanting approval.” She is being left behind while the rest of her family moves forward. But this is a situation where hard work is not enough, and that’s hard.
Unpopular opinion: Mirabel had it easy I know y'all are saying "poor mirabel she had it so hard" and all that stuff, but imo that's not the case. In fact, she had it easier than the rest of her family and had an actually fulfilling and happy life. Think about it. - Even though she didn't have a gift, she wasn't really treated horribly by her family for it. She got along with them fine, and though she may have felt left out a bit, it wasn't really anything too serious. Her parents loved her, her sister loved her, the only people that were possibly rude to her was Abuela Alma (and that was only in the end, you could see at the beginning she told Mirabel to "step aside" but she said it in a nice way to her.) and Isabela (and they're sisters, of course you'd expect them to fight.) -Having no gift was actually a blessing, as you could see Abuela Alma put the others to work as soon as they got their gifts. Not having a gift meant that Mirabel had as much time as she wanted to relax and enjoy herself, which is why she had free time 24/7 (and made a hobby in arts and crafts). It is likely that if she had a gift she wouldn't be able to make hobbies that she could spend all her time on. Mirabel constantly felt like she was singled out, but most of that was only in her head, tbh. The family didn't exactly single her out, and definitely not intentionally. I mean look at the others- Isabela had it far worse, Bruno had it even worse than Isabela, Luisa too, and Pepa and Dolores had bad gifts to begin with. Mirabel wasn't having a horrible life, she had an easy and satisfactory life, and she was lucky to not recieve a gift, for the worst she could possibly experience was slight ostracization.
Same this is my favorite song. I’m just like mirabel in real life, I don’t fit in because I have a older sister who is like isabella and always gets the attention and me just watching how everyone is giving her attention. And Abuela Alma is like my mom in real life because my mom is always with my sister and it’s like I would never be good enough for her but she says that I am so idk.
the fact that The voice of Mirabel , Stephanie Beatriz was in labor when she sang this song is incredible!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 She indeed wasn’t fine because labor hurts but she WAS waiting on her miracle . Aww 💚
Don't you mean she was pregnant at the time then a few days later she gave birth. I'm no woman but I'm sure labor would hurt like hell and she would be at a hospital and not a recording booth
"Longing to Shine Like All of You Shine." What Mirabel comes to understand by the end of the film is that her family could not be who they were without her love and support. She is their guiding light. Without her the magic would not have returned. She is a miracle and a true Madrigal sent by Pedro to heal the cracks in the family.
As someone with aspergers this song hits hard. I always feel like an outsider and I deeply wish for a miracle to help me fit in with everyone else, to be fully understood, and to not be alone most of the time in my own disconnected world.
This song hits very hard for me. Having mild cerebral palsy, I always wished for my own miracle: to have the ability to walk, run, and live like the others around me. When I was younger, I unconsciously was angry when people treated me as someone helpless. Like Mirabel, I eventually began to understand that despite my challenges, I could still walk and talk, and that's enough. I am now in the process of learning two languages, learning to crochet and sew, and learning to tie my hair in more complicated fashion. I know that this comment is random, but please have a good day.
Sending lots of loves 😙 Good to know that you are learning two languages, crochet and sew. I'm proud of you! Not a lot of people can do that. Remember that you are special and loved like everyone else no matter what.
When I was watching this scene I had this exact thought, that people born with some kind of handcap would see themselves on Mirabel. Maybe you're not like most people, but that doesn't mean you're not special or worthy
When Bruno said; " You are the real gift, kid." And she is, the best gift and miracle to her family even though they didn't look at Mirabel as a Member of the Madrigal Family. But Mirabel refuse to give up, I'm so proud her ngl.
Mirabel is seriously such an amazing character, I feel like every family has someone who feels less than or left behind because of their older siblings or other family members being so admired and held on a pedestal. She’s so relatable even in the smallest ways, like when she made the candle holders and the one for abuela caught on fire, it seems like such a small thing but it shows how hard she tries to earn abuela’s approval since she didn’t get a “gift.” Just imagine how many feelings she’s had bottled up since her door ceremony
Everyone is special power or not, smart or not, beautiful or not (everyone is beautiful), famous or not, and etc If you find this comment you should know that you are amazing, beautiful, and being yourself in a different way is the most absolutely gorgeous thing about you ❤ Stay strong and be confident
for anyone that has ever felt like an outsider, like they didn't belong or like they were out of place at least once in life this song is such a precious gem to relate to.
I see it less as feeling like an outsider and more like feeling worthless because you're outshined by your family. Basically constantly reminded how your siblings and cousins are doing amazing things like becoming doctors, making lots of money, going to the olympics, graduating as valedictorian, etc... while you're just an office clerk with a community college AS degree. Like even if you can make beautiful artwork as a hobby, the people you care about most don't talk about it because your sister is going to be the first woman on Mars so you end up feeling like failure no matter how much your parents say they love you. Mirabel isn't a blacksheep or outcast because her father, uncle, and abuela don't have powers either but out all of them, she's the only one that had to grow up in a family of "celebrities".
Mirabel’s song does not get enough credit. The beginning alone is heartbreaking “don’t be upset or made at all”. Like, she’s trying so hard not be to jealous or mad or sad.. this is what their life is evolved around and she’s nonexistent to them just because she doesn’t have some incredible gift. She’s literally crying saying she’d move MOUNTAINS to get her family’s attention and love. This song is so incredibly strong, I love and feel for all 3 of the sisters songs in Enconto
Mirabel actually had super speed as her gift this whole time. She was too deep in her own thoughts to ever realise and too fast for the rest of the family to see her moving.
two years later, I still absolutely love this song. It has such a beautiful meaning which I can relate to, and I just can sypmathize with Mirabel's character overall.
@@arctrog Aww that’s a shame:( I don’t know much about music (at least not enough to spot the weak ones) but this is my personal favorite song. the fact that shes singing to abuela/abuelas door and not the candle really breaks my heart, like she doesnt just want a gift to fit in, she wants to be understood and appreciated and loved by her family regardless
"I'm not fine, I'm not fine" "Open your eyes, Open your eyes, Open your eyes" "I am tired of waiting on a miracle" These are some REALLY beautiful lyrics, with a sense of realism.
I don’t know what it is but when she starts singing ‘I can’t move the mountains’ something happens in my body and it’s a mixed feeling between joy and excitement but pain and nostalgic😭
I don't understand why no one talks about this song, this is the most underrated one! The vocals are perfect, the animation is beautiful and the message behind it hits hard. edit: thank you sm for the likes!
For real, people keep talking about "We don't talk about Bruno" (kind of ironic considering the song's name), yet they slept on this song which is my favorite. It's so good that I was a bit let down by the subsequent songs because they weren't as riveting as this song, imo.
i know this song isn't as catchy as other songs like We Don't Talk About Bruno, but it really needs a lot more recognition. this often gets forgotten about, and i think it's quite sad since it's really good, and has an actual message behind it also, gosh the visuals are so pretty
The fact that the family forgets about Mirabel's existence once Antonio's miracle comes always broke my heart.

The sense of longing that she has is incredibly strong

The way she says "I'm not fine" she sounded like she was gonna burst into tears which hurts me. Like Mirabel is the first ever Disney protagonist I relate to in a LONG time. She just wants to make her family proud even tho she doesn't have a gift and just want their approval and she tries so hard. I adore her so much and this song is so criminally underrated cause this song many people can relate to and its so beautiful.

Wow 😳
Aw that's beautiful
She also broke a mountain in half. By accident.
Yes this is so true lol-
Except for controlling the weather lmao. Unless you count her being in Bruno's prophecy which stresses out Pepa as controlling the weather.
who would've thought that Mirabel, THE MAIN CHARACTER, would be so underrated by the fandom. everyone loves Camilo, Isabella, etc. but always forget she's such a perfectly built and relatable character. Mirabel is such a queen, I love her, she deserves so much more.
The Encanto fandom is leaving her out of the family photo all over again. 😢

I feel like most ppl liked the other songs bc they're either more catchier or that they relate to them more like in "under the surface" is the overwhelming pressure on burdens one must overcome for others while "what else can I do" shows how 1 person can limit you from using your FULL potential ♥♥♥

Also “abre los ojos open your eyes what do you see is” the first and last thing alma says to mirabel in the movie.
@@lilyprice706 I actually have just known that this morning then I saw this lol.
True. 👏👏👏 Very well said.
I'm sure she wanted those magikal powers it's literally in the song ahsha
In Japanese basically this whole song she just wants a gift so she can fit in instead of wanting people to except her as she is, shich makes it all more depressing.
2:00 when she says “I would heal what’s broken”, she looks right at Camilo, these 2 are the same age and this line and gesture makes me believe that they were super close when they were younger, but driven apart by the family when she never received a gift
i never noticed this that's actually super adorable
Wow that’s deep I wish we got to learn more about Camilo. He really was a great character. I would love to have a sequel where we learn more about him and Dolores
That sounds super adorable and all but parent denial and you didn't think about that. I'm a mamas boy and I'm 10 years old ok.
I was scrolling down and saw this comment perfect timing in the song (this happens so much)
As great as that be I think she's talking about the mom because she hugged her and mom's power is to heal people through food
Imagine blacks dominated the america
Just imagine if that someone you have made memories disappears and never return
Just imagine if everything is not precious
Just imagine if you let go of the memories that make your personality
Just imagine Seeing the whole universe and compare it to yourself
This song is underrated. It's so magical, and it's more than just an "I Want" song. It's a song about being excluded, and receiving no social attention from the family because she didn't have a gift that could "contribute" to the community which was what abuela kinda saw. This was evident when they took a family photo without her, and without anybody inviting Mirabel to join. It has a lot of similarities with Surface Pressure, because both characters are pretending they are ok, when they have mental breakdowns on the inside, but in the middle they express their wishes and hope for change.
Fax
Wait what I just listened to the song it’s sooooo good
True
Oke
YES. it’s just as much about setting up conflict as it is an I Want song.
It’s one of the greatest strengths of this movie. ALL of the characters feel real
@Lilith Greene She's a 15 year old girl. Like any teenager, she wants to keep herself to herself and doesn't want to show her insecurities. Unfortunately, as Luisa spells out in Surface Pressure, all that pressure of not showing insecurities will topple her over eventually (which it did when Mirabel flat-out argues with Alma (whom she calls "Abuela", since she is Alma's granddaughter!)).
mirabel did get a gift
God that’s me
Agreed.
Bro Mirabel is a saint for still loving her family after all the things they put her through. Not getting a gift while your entire family gets one is bad enough, but being ostracised and alienated for years because of it is actually crazy. If that was me, it would be my villain origin story 😂
it's so sad that they didn't include mirabel in the family picture, like she's still a madrigal, gift or not..
yeah they include felix and agustin but not mirabel? like wtf
@@Username-le4eq She literally wasn't included
@@jayreid2513 then second speculation might happened to explain why she's not in the photo :/

Yes
@@AliSakurai I get what you mean, I'm the only one in my family who was born with a neurological disorder and because of that I also have learning disabilities and all of my cousins are way smarter than I am and it hurt a lot growing up just realizing how different I was compared to everyone else in my family and how I felt like I would never be able to do enough like all of them could
I think everyone can relate to one of the Madrigals which is so nice to feel heard even a little bit

1:56 is the time she was in labor, you can hear the pain in her voice it must have been hard for her to sing through this. 😭😭😭😭
By the end of the film, Mirabel actually fulfilled the things she said she wanted to do in this song, whether directly or indirectly.
"I would move the mountains" Her outburst with Abuela caused the mountains surrounding the town to crack and shift
"Make new trees and flowers grow" she did this by making Isabela realize that she was capable of creating so much more with her powers
"I would heal what's broken" she found a way to heal what was broken with her family
"Show this family something new" was best said in her All of You line "I think it's time you learn you're more than just your gift"
I just thought of this too, I’m glad I’m not the only one!

This literally the main character’s most iconic solo song. Like Elsa’s “Let It Go” or Moana’s “How Far I Go”, it speaks Mirabel’s heart who’s wanting to find its purpose. This deserves more recognition!
These type of songs are called ‘I want’ songs typically. They tell us what the main character wants.
Yes its her "I want" song
her first few lines remind me of Elsa's "dont let them in, dont let them see" in For The First Time And Forever.

Here everyone is posing, showing off their powers, Luisa holding a Boulder, Pepa having a rainbow, Isabela gracefully making petals etc. really highlights the sort of image the madrigels had, not one as a family but idolised individuals defined by their powers.

@@StrongMajor1178 I know and I'm glad that she redeemed herself in a way. Did she had a hard time losing her husband and taking care of her family all alone?

Dolores- to keep everything she hear a secret
Antonio- Nothing(Abuela was still figuring that out)

Antonio's gift would've likely had him been the one to control the wildlife and animals. To keep "his friends" away no matter how well he gets along.
That's the reason Miracle was dying. No one was truly happy with it. They were just pressurized by abuela
Antonio was burdened because he didn't know if he was going to have a miracle. He even mentions it to Mirabel while he's hiding under the bed.
Antonio: possibly kill his friends and justify it when they follow their animal nature and try to harm humans? Belonging to to both worlds, human and animal, and at the same time belonging in neither- he can't live with the animals as he is not one of them and he can't feel accepted by humans truly

I love how mirabel foreshadows the entire rest of the movie in this one song. “I can’t move the mountains” she does, when the mountains split open. “I can’t make new flowers bloom” she indirectly does this when she helps Isabella, causing her to grow new flowers. Later in the song she sings “show this family something new” while again staring straight at Isabella. the saddest part for me is the fact that mirabel was forced to develop such maturity at such an early age to understand and cope with what she felt. the "don't feel upset or mad at all, i'm still a part of the family madrigal" shows how mature she is forced to be in order to "not hurt the family" and "make abuela proud". it's so sad to think about how many children are forced to grow up early and act like adults due to family pressure.

2nd favorite but it’s actually closer than you might think
“Hard work isn’t enough, and that’s hard.”
That’s why she’s waiting on a miracle, because that’s what it would take to get her family to accept her
so true! i also LOVE all of you
Unpopular opinion: Mirabel had it easy
I know y'all are saying "poor mirabel she had it so hard" and all that stuff, but imo that's not the case.
Her parents loved her, her sister loved her, the only people that were possibly rude to her was Abuela Alma (and that was only in the end, you could see at the beginning she told Mirabel to "step aside" but she said it in a nice way to her.) and Isabela (and they're sisters, of course you'd expect them to fight.)
-Having no gift was actually a blessing, as you could see Abuela Alma put the others to work as soon as they got their gifts.
Aww 💚

❤️ Sending lots of love. One of my best friends also has a mild form of cerebral palsy
Sending lots of loves 😙
Good to know that you are learning two languages, crochet and sew.
You are the miracle. Have a blessed day ❤️
hope you get a miracle eventually anyways.
When Bruno said; " You are the real gift, kid."
And she is, the best gift and miracle to her family even though they didn't look at Mirabel as a Member of the Madrigal Family. But Mirabel refuse to give up, I'm so proud her ngl.
Yeah she is coz she literally is the candle. She's the embodiment of the candle.
@@kleighmillare4003 Bruno meant she's a gift even powerless without her connection to the house or candle.
So true

If you find this comment you should know that you are amazing, beautiful, and being yourself in a different way is the most absolutely gorgeous thing about you ❤
Stay strong and be confident
for anyone that has ever felt like an outsider, like they didn't belong or like they were out of place at least once in life this song is such a precious gem to relate to.
🥺❤️
🥺💗😭
I actually felt like the black sheep since am literally the only left handed
@@matthewsosa6239 you really deserve so much better than that.
This song is so incredibly strong, I love and feel for all 3 of the sisters songs in Enconto
frr even it feels like she’s implying she SHOULDNT be upset she’s gaslighting herself :(
@@lilac3266 she’s probably been gaslit her whole life-
Revolved around* lol
❤@@-namekuji-1973
Yes
Mirabel actually had super speed as her gift this whole time. She was too deep in her own thoughts to ever realise and too fast for the rest of the family to see her moving.
🤣
Yea his gift is singing and when she sing the world stop that's she's gift
My 5 grl old said this 😂😂 she’s got super speed dad
Haha!!
Maybe it’s just time freeze instead lmao
two years later, I still absolutely love this song. It has such a beautiful meaning which I can relate to, and I just can sypmathize with Mirabel's character overall.
I feel like this is the most underrated song in the movie, but it has such beauty and meaning.
I think it’s the weakest song in the movie, but that doesn’t say much as it’s still fire
Yes. I feel the same too.
@@arctrog that is also true
@@arctrog Aww that’s a shame:( I don’t know much about music (at least not enough to spot the weak ones) but this is my personal favorite song. I like it even more than wdtab tbh… I still get chills every time I listen to it from the emotions it gave off! It definitely deserves better in my opinion.
@@appleant1083 surface pressure feels a bit too Steven Universe for me so i can see why you'd like it less but this one feels like it doesn't add anything we don't already know while all of the other songs add characters and exposition
the fact that shes singing to abuela/abuelas door and not the candle really breaks my heart, like she doesnt just want a gift to fit in, she wants to be understood and appreciated and loved by her family regardless
You're making me cry 😭
Ikr. Broke my heart!
"I'm not fine, I'm not fine"
"Open your eyes, Open your eyes, Open your eyes"
"I am tired of waiting on a miracle"
These are some REALLY beautiful lyrics, with a sense of realism.
fr those lyrics hit pretty hard
She says “I’m sick of waiting on a miracle”
@@-ashebean-985 Yes. It is also beautiful.
Also, at the last song where Alma tells Mirabel to open her eyes in turn....
fr fr its just so beatifully sung and with all thise emotions, can bring tears
I don’t know what it is but when she starts singing ‘I can’t move the mountains’ something happens in my body and it’s a mixed feeling between joy and excitement but pain and nostalgic😭
can we talk about how Mirabel is an underrated character with an underrated song in her own movie?
I KNOW RIGHT?
But we don't talk about mirabvel?
@@fluoressmsm1507 Mirabel.
@@fluoressmsm1507 Marvel:D
lol jokes
I KNOW. SHE'S TOO UNDERRATED. 😔✋
I don't understand why no one talks about this song, this is the most underrated one! The vocals are perfect, the animation is beautiful and the message behind it hits hard.
edit: thank you sm for the likes!
It’s my favorite!
This is the perfect Disney song it deserves more
For real, people keep talking about "We don't talk about Bruno" (kind of ironic considering the song's name), yet they slept on this song which is my favorite. It's so good that I was a bit let down by the subsequent songs because they weren't as riveting as this song, imo.
I mean i kinda like it but there’s like something i want added to the song
Truth?
i know this song isn't as catchy as other songs like We Don't Talk About Bruno, but it really needs a lot more recognition. this often gets forgotten about, and i think it's quite sad since it's really good, and has an actual message behind it
also, gosh the visuals are so pretty
i find this song the catchiest out of all ngl, that's why it's like my fav 😄
@@iblivs21 Same, I've heard it countless times
I liked we don’t talk about Bruno first but I kept hearing it everywhere so now it’s one of my least favorites lol
@@whenthe8032 seeing omori plush in these comments so funny HAHAH
I think the catchiest song is “what else can I do”
This is actually a heartfelt song..
50 years old and i am still waiting on a miracle..
That "I'm not fine, I'm not fine" makes me cry every single time. The emotion in her voice
That part gets me too
