Freddie sounded this good after having laryngitis the week before. Queen performing was actually a surprise for the audience. They were late to sign on to do the concert and all of the promotional material for the event was sent out weeks before the concert and they weren't listed as appearing. Freddie didn't need singing lessons, he had a natural talent.

Yes, I have been to live Queen shows, they were fantastic, all kinds of special effects along with the best live shows ever. Lights, smoke and pyrotechnics. So much fun! I love this concert. I have seen it so many times as well as watching it live as it was going on, and I still love it. This concert was so big that there was a show in London and another one in Philadelphia that ran all day long. When they were switching sets in London, a band was on stage in Philadelphia. This concert was broadcast around the world. It was a benefit for Famine Relief in Ethiopia. Queen always has rehearsals before a show, even when they are on tour. They do a soundcheck before ever show and run through the songs. Their professionalism really shows. That third song is called "Hammer To Fall", written by Brian May which explains why it is a guitar extravaganza. On Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian plays 3 different guitars. Acoustic, Stratocaster and his own Brian May Red Special.

Once you 'Get' Queen...They become part of your soul and mental wallpaper. Although now in this 21st century there is so much mystique surrounding Queen, and particularly Freddie's legendary status...We who were privileged to see Queen perform live, knew instinctively that we were witnessing inimitable greatness. I was so very fortunate to attend several of their concerts in different parts of the world in the mid 80's...This band were the perfect storm, and Freddie was the God with pockets full of fairy dust, who ensured each and every ticket holder experienced the absolute time of their lives. Dear Freddie showed us inside his heart...and we will love him forever for it.❤

I kid you not, I have watched this performance thousands of times I was an R&B and hip-hop fan until I saw the movie Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018 and saw what real greatness and talent really is. Hi from London, I wasn't there but in a hair salon, they had the whole concert on tv there. Nobody took much notice⁰, it was just like background music until QUEEN came out and everyone stopped to watch, sang along, did all the claps at the right time and yes he didn't just have the audience in the palm of his hands he had most of the whole world in his hands for 20 minutes!

Queen concerts were incredible. They changed up every concert just enough to keep the songs interesting. We were all spoiled for choices but Queen were professional musicians that took their jobs seriously. You just couldn’t take your eyes off of Freddie and each member wrote hit songs that he took to a magical, energetic level. Technology has changed a lot but I’m so glad I was born before everyone had their faces on their phones. We all connected with Queen and we all danced and sang. They connected all of us despite our differences. Btw MichaelJackson loved Queen. He and Freddie Mercury recorded songs together.

Brian May built that guitar with his dad when he was a teen. An old mantle, his mom’s knitting needle and pearl buttons and other castaways. Still his go-to guitar. He’s also an astrophysicist who worked with NASA, was recently knighted by King Charles and white several books on 3-D photography. Queen was honored with THE BRIT Award for one Billion song streamed in the UK.

I think what made Freddie so special is that aside from the fact that he was a musical genius with charisma that is unmatched he was known to be an incredible sweet and kind person. Off stage he was quite shy, concerned that people might be disappointed that he was not the same person they saw on stage. I have never heard anyone that ever met him or worked with him say a derogatory thing about him.
He was so special in all ways. There are many documentaries on line about his life you might enjoy.

The closest I ever came to seeing Queen live was watching this performance live on TV. Between the 72K people there, 96K in Philadelphia, and everyone else watching it live on TV, Queen had roughly 20% of the world's population in their hands for 21 minutes. His crowd control extended far beyond what anyone would think possible. It's pretty humbling.

LiveAid at Wembley Stadium Uk 🇬🇧 twinned with a concert in Philadelphia USA , 72 thousand people at LiveAid, 92 thousand people in Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸, the concert a benefit concert to raise funds for the terrible famine in Ethiopia 🇪🇹, a first of a kind concert televised to nearly 2 billion people worldwide, the money raised in today’s currency estimated at 337 million dollars, some of the biggest artists on the day performed Around 20 artists each had a time slot to perform, Queen came on stage and with their flamboyant performance were by far the best performers on the day, Freddie had the crowds in the palm of his hand, and all the band are outstanding, Freddie the best frontman of a band, I actually attended LiveAid in 1985 I have fond memories I’ll never forget of that time , I also attended Queen live at Wembley Stadium U K in 1986 , and also attended Queen at Knebworth Park also in 1986 , the crowd at Knebworth Park was estimated to be 140 thousand in the crowd this was also Freddie’s last live concert ever as he didn’t want to perform live again, but he carried on in the studio until he was to ill to carry on, Freddie is surely missed, great reaction thanks 🙏

Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said David Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”

All have University degrees, Freddie had a degree in Graphic Arts Design, and designed the bands logo, John Deacons, bassist has a degree in Electrical Engineering, the lead guitarist Brian May is now Dr. Brian May PhD in Astrophysics and last but not least, the man on the drums, Roger Taylor was studying to be a Dentist and has a degree in Biology. The Queen set (as with other performers at this Global Benefit Concert) was just 21 minutes. But they prepped for it, even with all the arena shows they had done. Not long after Freddie's death and the final album released, John Deacon (bass guitarist) left/retired. There was no replacing Freddie but I think Brian and Roger wanted to keep their music out there, fresh for new audiences. That's how they re-started after the "pause" adding the Queen + guest artist (first Paul Rogers, currently Adam Lambert). Yes, you are the first reactor I recall that also happened to be wearing a tank top for a LIVE AID reaction. Queen got their energy from the audience - fuel for Freddie.

They weren't on the official line up so none of us knew whether they were going to show up or not. I have been hooked every since. I saw them live twice the following year in 1986, one at Wembley and the other at Knebworth. All four of them are HUGELY talented intelligent humbling men who I have massive respect for, even Freddie even though he passed over 30 years ago his presence is as strong today as it was back then, Brian was so right "Only the Good Die Young".
The Live Aid concert, basically for 20 minutes starting at 6.40pm on the 13 July 1985 the UK were ruled by a different Queen, and the world stopped spinning across the globe. I saw Queen in 1978 at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto. Thin Lizzy opened for them and they rocked as well.
One of the best concerts ever: even better than Jimi Hendrix, the Stones, the Doors, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper, King Crimson . . . you get the picture.
I only ever saw one concert that was better.

There were so many great bands touring on a regular basis back in the 80s we took it for granted. Queen was at the top the whole band was great live but if I could go back id see them more. Concerts were almost every weekend and with so many great live performers it seems crazy to say Queen was just another concert.

72,0000 people at Wembley, another 100,000 in Philadelphia, and 1,2 billion watching on TV globally. The Olympics have 3 satellites...Live Aid had 13 .I remember it was very hot that day in Wembley Stadium July 13th 1985 but it was worth it, best day EVER in my life! 👏👏🇳🇱

  • @Sassypaws4927
    @Sassypaws4927 11 місяців тому

Live Aid was a duel-venue concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London (audience of 72,000) and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (audience of 100,000) that was connected and broadcast over 13 satellites worldwide to an audience of over 1.9 Billion. The purpose of the concert was to raise money to aid Ethiopia which was suffering from 2-year drought. There were 75+ acts, each allotted a 20-minute slot to perform.
The UK line-up included Status Quo,, David Bowie, Elton John, Wham!, Sting, U2, The Who, Paul McCartney, and Bob Geldof with his band The Boomtown Rats. The US bill included Madonna, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty. Phil Collins played in both London and then caught the Concord Supersonic Jet and flew to perform again in Philly.
“You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”
FYI - Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" while taking a bath in his hotel in Berlin. It took him about 10 minutes to write it. He was inspired by Elvis and yelled for someone to bring him a guitar which he used to write the song. (Roger Taylor - Queen's drummer, said that he never understood how Freddie got that guitar in the tub.)
    Queen's playlist was:
    1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion)
    2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name)
    3. Freddie's Call and Response
    4. Hammer to Fall
    5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
    6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo)
    7. We Are The Champions

Dude, each of these guys are super talented. Each one wrote number 1 hits: all individually in the Songwriters HOF as well as the band. Each can play multiple instruments; each is college educated. Freddie had an arts & design degree and designed the Queen logo. Sir Dr. Brian May has a PhD in astrophysicists, built his own guitar, and has worked with NASA. John, the bassist, holds an Electronics degree, built the Deaky amp through which the band was able get unique sound, and he wrote the some of the most badaas base lines in rock. Roger, the drummer, holds a biology degree. Each has different ideas, so their songs are all different.
Roger and Brian each sing incredibly well and had their own solo stuff . Freddie did a solo album too as well as an opera album he wrote and sung with Spanish opera great Montserat Cabelle.
Check out How Can I Go On and be prepared to be blown out of your chair!
Queen will blow up your channel for sure.

You seemed interested in a lot of trivia, so here goes….!!
Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person!
NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience.
NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?).
NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him.
SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW:
nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves!
LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)!
I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports!
