It was good, not the greatest, because that puts others into a competition they probably don't want to be a part of. And yeah, people were there for Queen. And Bowie. And Status Quo. They weren't there for U2, who were virtual unknowns when they started their set and world famous when they finished it.
At the time, Queen weren't doing so well, partly due to the I Want To Break Free video that the Americans and NTV didn't like at all. So they knew this was their chance to get back in the US. And boy, did they ever!
Queen were a good, tight band with a world class singer at the front.

At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and over 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.
My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.

John Deacon- bass guitarist, songwriter, electrical engineer (designed Brian’s amp); Roger Taylor- drums, back up singer, songwriter, biologist. These guys were serious musical artists. Try songs: You take my breath away( live 1976 Hyde park) also Save Me, In the Lap of the Gods, Love of my life, Another one bites the dust, Under pressure (live Wembley), Cool Cat, Get down make love, It’s a kind of magic. As far as Freddie knowing where Brian was…they were a very good working unit. They knew each other so well, and could anticipate each other’s moves. They also always came prepared. They rehearsed this set for a week, while most of the other performers went out their and just winged it.

    LEAD GUITAR=BRIAN MAY
    DRUMS=ROGER TAYLOR
    BASS GUITAR=JOHN DEACON
There... Now QUEEN can be your favorite band cuz you KNOW THEIR NAMES😅
Freddie had a degree in Art/Graphic Design; he designed Queen's logo/was an AMAZING artist.
He had zero formal voice training/was totally self-taught except for piano lessons. (He quit taking the lessons after four years cuz - in his words - "I can't really read sheet music!")🤯 Offstage, Fred was actually quite shy & called himself "really quite boring!" Fred was born in Zanzibar as Farouk Bulsara/was raised in the Zoroastrian religion; NO ONE knows where Freddie's ashes are interred except for his life-long best friend Mary Austen.
DR. Brian May is an ASTRO PHYSICIST & has done work w NASA. He's a vegetarian/HUGE animal rights activist & says he's Agnostic.
Roger Taylor has a degree in Dentistry; he sings like Rod Stewart & has a GIGANTIC statue of Freddie in his garden.
John Deacon has a degree in Electrical Engineering & designed/built Queen's unique amp system. (No one else has been able to figure out how to replicate it.)
John/his wife are Catholic; they've been married 40+ yrs w 6 kids!. He retired after Freddie died (he was heartbroken) & lives very reclusively. To-this-day tho, John still oversees Queen's finances & Brian/Roger involve him in all their "Queen decision-making".
Now you know them a little better.💕

This was one of Queen's BEST performances ever (if not THE best). People have been talking about it for 30 years... It was also one of (if not THE) last live performances... Freddie put his all into it because it was sort of his goodbye to his fans.
The stadium is Wembly Stadium in England. And this was a part of Live Aid - which is where a bunch of different groups/artists performed as a fundraiser for world hunger - specifically in Africa. It was televised globally and people could call in and pledge donations. I believe all of the actual concerts were completely sold out.

My boys!! Freddie Mercury, Brian May lead guitar, John Decon Bass and Roger Taylor Drums. I have loved Queen for over 40+ years. They were and still are the most unique band ever. No song was ever the same. This was the most legendary performance and no pledges were coming in until this band took the stage. Lol 1 million in under a minute. I could go on but we'd be here all day. Plus who can top that voice and crowd control? No one. I could talk about Freddie and the guys all day 😁 that kiss he blew was to his mom. Freddie said it best, " I won't be a rock star, I'll be a legend " and that you are ❤

Brian May deserves his own recognition as an amazing guitarist. Also, the way Freddie interacts with the audience on the "Ayo" I always found to be amazing.

Do his song The Show Must Go On; knowing he was terminally ill. It is amazing....he was so sick he couldn't stand so he took a shot of vodka and leaned up against something and I believe it to be his best performance EVER!

We told you so!!!! Brian May lead guitar. John Deacon bass. Roger Taylor drums. They all sing but I think Roger is the most prominent and has the most texture to his voice. All amazingly talented.

Live Aid was a fund raiser for famine in Ethiopia and Sudan. This was at Wembley in London. Also a live audience in Philadelphia and a couple of billion on TV.

Such a showman with one of the best voices we will ever know. I agree with you about Radio; to me Radio and We are the Champions we’re the two best songs from this performance but the entire set was just iconic.

Freddie had a throat infection during this concert, his doctor advised him not to sing. He blew the kiss to his Mum 💐

Damn Freddy is so missed. Freddy and Dr. Brian May (fantastic guitar player) make a beautiful pairing, then add in machine drummer Roger
Taylor and John Deacon rounds out the sound with the Bass. I am glad they are touring again with Adam Lambert but there will never
be another Freddy and everyone knows that, so I give Adam his dues with impossible shoes to fill. Love your channel by the way, and I don't
think you can go wrong with any Queen song. To be there in person in front of Freddy, when he's singing right at you...wow an unexplainable
feeling, honestly. Freddy was a priceless gift! 🤘

This was at Wembley Stadium in London, which had a capacity of 72,000 at the time. It was completely sold out. The other main Live Aid concert was at RFK stadium in Philadelphia, and 100,000 were there for that

Freddie is a legend! He is the best there ever was when it came to performing. He loved what he did and strived to make it better for us. Queen was still is and will always be one of the greatest bands that ever existed. When we lost Freddie we lost an icon.

This performance was in Wembley Stadium in London in 1985... it had about 72,000 fans at the Live Aid show. A year later in 1986, Queen HEADLINED 2 nights at Wembley Stadium w/ 72K fans per night! 😲
