You are so right! When the conductor of a local orchestra called me and asked if I would be interested in playing 3rd flute...I said, "oh, yes"....and then quickly he said ....and "you DO play piccolo, right"????? and I could say YES!!!! I love this exercise!! Many thanks...
Playing in tune in general is so important, but I find I am under the highest intonation scrutiny when I play piccolo! This exercise is great for intonation! (I also love the tip about a drone pitch!)
I love piccolo! My favorite orchestra piece with it would have to be Tchaikovsky 4th symphony - so cool!! Beautiful and informative video, April! Bravo!
I learned this from Jack Wellbaum too and loved Monday night piccolo class! I still use this exercise in my piccolo practice. It makes a huge difference!
I love this! I love to play the piccolo and I haven't gotten to play it very much since I got home. I'm excited to develop better intonation on my piccolo!
Beautiful video, highly informative, and well presented. I didn't even know I like the piccolo sound on its own until now. 😅 Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!
Thanks so much! Once in a while someone tells me after a piccolo performance that they've had a realization they like its sound. I always view that as a major breakthrough! 😂
Very cool exercise! This would be very useful for violin intonation warmup also, before doing regular scales & arpeggios, since it helps get those perfect intervals
I'll definitely have to try this exercise! Intonation is always a tricky battle with piccolo and I've done lots of drone practice in the past, but I've never tried it with this exercise. I like the way this exercise trains your ear to hear the perfect intervals. I'm excited to try it in my next ensemble rehearsal warm-up!
I have never owned a piccolo, but it’s high on my priority list once I graduate for this very reason. I’ve had many great opportunities because I spent some quality time with the little guy 😁 I’m itching to go get a piccolo now just so I can use this exercise again!
I haven't played piccolo super seriously for a while and was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to get back into it effectively. I don't think I could hit all those high notes right away!
All the things that work to get in shape on flute work on piccolo, too. Scales, tone studies, simple and melodic repertoire. You could definitely do this study but just not go up to those very top notes. Good luck!
Nice and useful as always with our dear April. Thanks and best regards from Zagreb Croatia!
Very nice ! Viva the piccolo!
That's right! 😊
Very awesome 👌 tutorial here
As hard and scary as picc can seem, it is so cute. I'm going to start using these perfect interval exercises to nail down that intonation.
Haha, yes, it's cute! Let's hope it doesn't feel diminished in POWER (which it most definitely has) by being called cute 😂
The piccolo has given me SO many opportunities. Thank you for the exercise to encourage me to pull it out again.
Yes, you are a true piccolo aficionado!

Ah, thanks so much for proving my point! 😀 Glad you like the exercise!
Great video. You have so many resources.
Hi, Michael! Thanks for voluntarily increasing your piccolo awareness. That takes some bravery! 😆
I like that this exercise begins with the half step interval- a great way to ground the tone and intonation!
Yes, it's great to tie leaping with those perfect 5th and 4th intervals into our usual half-step exercise.
amazing!

I've always loved the piccolo (the sound of it and to play it). Those exercises are definitely worth trying out. Thanks once again!
That's great! I agree, the piccolo can be a really appealing little instrument. Have fun!
It's like a Piccolo lesson 101. It is really nice to have the perfect 5ths and 4ths pattern, and it will keep piccolos in tune!
Yep! 👍
So much good information! Thank you!
this is great. thank you!
Glad you liked it! 😊
Another great vídeo!
Thanks for watching!
I love playing piccolo! I'm excited to get back to working on my intonation and expanding piccolo repertoire :)
Great! Long live the piccolo!

Thanks for watching! And hey, thanks for liking the piccolo!
fantastic! You have a great on screen presence and the information is nicely given😊
Thanks so much - I appreciate it!
I haven't played the piccolo very much, but I am hopeful to start soon! These exercises will help me loads when I learn.
Your time will definitely come! Whenever you want.... 😊
I love the idea of playing this exercise during orchestra warm up! It is so helpful for me to hear things in context.
Yes - when I first tried it, I was surprised by just how well I could hear myself and pitch tendencies in that context!
I learned this from Jack Wellbaum too and loved Monday night piccolo class! I still use this exercise in my piccolo practice. It makes a huge difference!
It's great to hear from you! Yes, I've always felt this little exercise is surprisingly effective! 👍

Sounds like probably about time to pull out the little guy! BTW I saw your mom in Moab for one second over the weekend.... 👍
This inspired me to save up for a piccolo! Sounds like it is really important to learn :)

It's a good one! Perfect intervals do tend to be easier to tune than 3rds, 6ths, let alone 7ths, etc... Have fun!

Yes, access to a good piccolo always makes life better. Who could possibly argue with that? Nobody! 😀
