I had a 2022 GR86, and just recently traded it for a 2024 BRZ with a manual transmission. The GR86 was better logoed, which makes a difference in collectability, but I like some of the subtle differences on the BRZ better. I love them both, but would have kept my GR86 if it was a manual.
Car guys: we want more power Car guys : why are cars so expensive… GUYS GUYS.. mark my words… when this new gen comes out, there won’t be any “affordable” sports car.. because YOUUU got greedy and wanted more power. 86 current current platform is great. It comes it an affordable price and has adequate power for enjoyment while driving amazing. You have the choice to add more power aftermarket.. which is its beauty.
they could literally just offer a turbo option as a higher trim model with less production and it would be enough to make people happy especially since they have the 3cyl in multiple cars it probably wouldn't add that much more cost for production?
@@zak_king16 It would add more cost then you think. They'd have to engineer the engine and powertrain to be able to handle the power from the turbo model, and there's no way they'd have two separate engines for the car. That would be way too expensive to justify. So they'd have to reinforce the engine, then you're talking the transmission, and then it will need grippier tires. And all of that is going to add more weight to the front end, so to keep the balance, they'd have to add weight to the rear and at that point you end up with basically a Nissan Z or Supra. I think it's better to keep it as a tuner special. Keep it lightweight and affordable so people can mod it the way they want.
@@BRZguythey already competitively race the gr86 with the 3cyl engine in the car cause they blew up I believe 3 fa24s in a short span and ditched it so the RnD is already done they would just need to commit to it?
@@zak_king16 No they only use the 3 cylinder engine in japan for testing alternative fuels. The rest of the racing series is with the FA24. Plus it's not guaranteed reliability for street use. On the track it's fine because track cars get rebuilt all the time. But there would be more R&D involved aside from just throwing a different engine in. Plus factoring in the cost increase too.

Honestly I think it's more likely that the 86 will just be replaced. We've also heard rumors of a new inline 4 turbo engine for a new Toyota Celica. There's also strong evidence of a competitor to Mazda Miata called S-FR. Let also not forget the rumors of a new MR-2. This is also a likely scenario. The only reason i suspect they will keep the 86 around (even if it is basically a new car) is because they have worked hard to build up recognition around the name
@@KeltonKozlowski I think the S-FR is the real decider. Currently the 86's only real competitor in the market is the Miata.
