Perhaps most of the people in the niche this ad appeals to live in big cities and don't own cars or drive. So if Jaguar is going to sell £100,000+ cars to about 5,000 buyers in 2026 then they will be dead before they leave the line. If you are going to throw away decades of glorious history that underpins your brand you might as well start from scratch with a new name. At least then you will not go down in history as the team who created nothing out of something!

Power of the average vehicle did not go up substantially. Factories just started supplanting the aftermarket in the extremities. 30 years ago, people simply refused to buy a new car that broke every 3k miles. Now they are cool with it, so the factory offers it.

It’s a misconception that over head cam engines are more advanced than pushrod v8s. Overhead cam engines have been around since the 1920s. Push rod engines are just more economical and compact, you can make more power per weight with a pushrod engine than you can with an overhead cam engine, note I didn’t say power per liter but power to weight. A 7.0l ls makes more power than a 5.0l coyote and they weigh the same.

This video hit the nail on the head. It’s not just less sports cars but also less cars and thus less sporty variants. I also think because of the US and European regulations it has made it hard to adopt technologies that keep cars fun and the tuner community interesting. Hard to make a Corolla/Civic fun with a cvt. Now they’re switching to hybrids and it doesn’t even really utilize a transmission so manuals really will be extinct. Cars are just less exciting to build.

By now, we've figured out WHEN it makes the horsepower and whether or not you can put it down makes a huge difference. With cam phasing, variable intakes, port plus direct injection and AWD....peak HP becomes only part of the story.

My 4cyl audi has 1000hp its nothing anymore. If you dont have 2000 hp. Your just slow.

On one hand I'm happy ICE tech is so good that 1000hp is now a factory thing but on the other hand I'm more glad the hp wars are over because it's definitely affected the car community in terms of bickering ("It only makes X amount of power?" Types of comments). Also while modern cars do have impressive power figures, the weight of newer cars is insane. Personally I don't really care that much about horsepower as I do with chassis and suspension.

Great video as always and again actually well researched , the problem with peoples reaction to this rebrand is like you said people still think Jaguar is the same company they were in the 1950s and completely forget they were fleduling in the 90s failed and fell apart in the 2000s and were on life support in the 2010s. Its crazy cause industry experts can see what their doing yet everyone else is like Woke and gay = bad. The funniest thing about it is again like you eluded to how many BMW and Audis are out there on the road even in the USA vs how many jaguars you see on the road and thats even applicable to their home market in the UK, I do not see that many Jaguars and its ROUGH , where im living now i see more Bentleys and Mclarens then i do Jaguars on the road let alone Audis , BMW and Mercedes'. People seem to have this cognitive disonance when it comes to how popular jaguar actually is when responding to the new rebrand vs when they basically stayed the same in the 2010s and the irony is they LITERALLY SAID THEYD DO THIS ages ago when they announced by 2025 theyd go all electric. The whole make a good car and people buy argument falls when you realise honda made both the S2000 and NSX and only kept those cars alive for a short period of time never making another S2k and only reviving the NSX in the mid 2010s and guess what the whole internet disregarded the car becasue it was auto only. SHIT the supra got disregsrded by the internet because it was coproduced by BMW which is stupidly ironic cause the GT86 was coproduced with Subaru 💀
