- Would you like to see an overview and review of the amazing new Ditto Pattern Projector? Well come along with me then, you won't want to miss this! In this DIY style UA-cam video I go over what this amazing new sewing technology is all about and make a custom dress from the Ditto pattern library by projecting my pattern right on the fabric. And the best thing? It fits me perfectly because it uses my measurements to create every pattern just for me! Amazing!!!!

I looked at the Ditto at a sewing expo. $700 plus a monthly subscription fee for a limited number of patterns didn't seem like a good deal. There are lots of less expensive projectors that will project ANY pdf. They claim they're working on it, but until their projector will handle all pdfs, not just the Ditto patterns, there are better options.
Their system also lets you customize the patterns both with your own measurements and choices like neckline style.
Do you know of anyone else that does that?
Thanks for watching!
@@SewAnastasia Cochenille's Garment Designer lets you plug in your own measurements then customize any pattern :)
@@rachelpeterson7415 ooooo cool I’ll check it out! I have had some bad luck with a few of those programs in the past.
A room full of women and men sew it’s told me about the nightmares of calibrating the competition. They hated them.
@@SewAnastasia bootstrap, the dressform pattern company, also has custom patterns. I've had success with them.
Just bought this recently. I’m too old to learn pattern adjustments. I’m a plus size with many adjustment needs. This is going to knock off a few years of time for me to actually live and love sewing. Life saving, time saving and worth every penny. You can pause and start for periods of non use. Just double check on the time (I think its 90 days) that you don’t want to go over to lose any data. Plus there is a 3 free month promotion card in the box.
OOO that is great to know! I had no idea about the 3 free month promo. I didn't get one in my box. I am really happy to hear that it is working out for you . What styles have you created so far?
I just won the Ditto at a Sew What's New Event at Quality Sew and Vaccum Tacoma. I am elated. I can't wait to get started.
I saw that Ditto was on sale so I watched a few of your videos to see how it works. You sold me. I just ordered one! I can’t wait to get it!
So exciting! 👏 Tag me in your projects. I want to see them!
Don't stop teaching pattern drafting techniques - I WANT to learn how to do it!
Don’t worry. I’m only getting started. I’m working on getting a whole online pattern class up this year.
I’m definitely getting one too. Great tutorial. You’ve got me even more excited about making the purchase.
It's fun to play with.
Love that fabric!
Thank you :) Me too! I saw it and was like I have to have it!!!
I've been seeing the buzz about this projector and am so glad I found your video! Thank you for taking the time to go through how the projector works. It answered a lot of my questions - especially the part about it making patterns customizable . I sew because I am itty bitty petite and there is literally nothing in the stores that will fit me unless it's knit, or I bought it in the kids section (which don't really fit me because even though I'm small, I am shaped like a woman not a child. Store garments are getting increasingly larger and have excluded me for the most part, so I love to sew up my own cute outfits. It's so time consuming to have to redraft a commercial pattern down to my size. This looks like it's definitely a game changer.
👏💕 happy you enjoyed learning about it
This is sooooo cool! I actually feel inspired that I may be able to create something for myself since rarely can I find anything in a store that is off the rack to fit me the way I want.
Absolutely! I got into sewing to make clothes in a style that I wanted that would actually fit me the way I wanted too.
Thanks for watching!
I just ordered one today. Can’t wait to get it!
Super exciting!
This is amazing! 🤩 I've been waiting for you to talk about this. Going to work double shifts to buy 🥰
Thanks for watching today. It is a fun new addition to the sewing room.
It look very interesting and sooo cool! no more pinning & placing paper pattern, I will be able to crate something for myself plus I'm saving my time and money and this will make my life so much easier I'm sold I want one :)
Have fun!
I do believe I am going to get one. Thank you great video tutorial
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this information. I'm thinking about buying a Ditto. It's exciting. I can't believe I didn't think of it myself!
Glad it was helpful! Happy Dittoing ❤️🎀
Saving up to get one!! My Bust is 3 sizes smaller than my waist and hips! This is perfect!😊
Awesome! Ditto is fun to use.
I have been using a projector for sewing for a few years now and it’s a huge game changer.
Very cool! 🎀
New subbie... loved your presentation! You may have sold me on getting it!
Thanks for subbing!
Cute dress!!!
Thank you 😊 I just love it!!!
Awesome video! Makes me want to buy it!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it convincing. Let me know if you have any questions about the product!
It makes it sound like the pattern automatically goes to your body measurements. However, anyone who has used paper patterns know that the designers use "designer ease" that often means a pattern is WAY too big, especially in the shoulders. I would be more impressed if the pattern companies were designing paper patterns that actually fit the measurements given. I spend so much time trying to figure out what my "size" in a certain pattern really is, not to mention having to make toiles or muslins that often are failures since the sizing is so crazy. I really think this turns more people off sewing than anything else. They need to make the sizing consistent.
Consistent sizing in fashion would be amazing!!!! I’m in xsss in one company & a size 6 in another. It’s soooooo annoying. If only they would go by actual measurements! It would make shopping & sewing so much easier.
Learn basic pattern drafting. Knowing the principles of how a pattern piece relates to your size will help you modify a store-bought pattern to fit you. One overall principle: look at “finished garment measurements” on the envelope. Say your bust is 34 and the size that corresponds to that has finished measurement of 38, will tell you it has 4 inches of ease! You need at least 1” so you can move in it. 3 more inches might be fine for a peasant blouse but terrible for a Fit & Flare dress!!! So then decide how much ease you want and choose the size that gives you that. It will help.
I like your hair! I had mine the exact same colors when I had my husband help me dye it like a year into our relationship. ☺️ (same ombré thing too, but with side bangs.) I miss pink hair… Oh, and of course this Ditto looks super awesome and handy, and I want one!!❤
I love the hair style but it is so much work to keep up! Lol 😂 Thank you for watching 💕
Oooh this is wonderful! I’ve seen setups where people set their own set up using a projector. Once you get it set up it’s great, but the set up is a bit of a pain.
Thanks for watching!
Oh, and lovely job on your WalkAway dress! And your grandmother's machine is sew pretty! ♥
This video really felt like a sponsored ad.... but there's no mention of any affiliation, I know a bunch of sewing creators have been sent a ditto recently for free so the timing of this upload and no mention of anything like that feels kinda suspect?.. maybe I'm wrong but I don't know for such a blanket positive review with no mention of any difficulties or draw backs, you only really see that in sponsored posts I really hope this isn't an undeclared sponsorship or arrangement with the company, that would be pretty dishonest. 😅
We’ll if you look at the beginning of it , it does say that it’s a sponsored post. Thanks for watching & regardless if it is sponsored, you where obviously interested in the ditto projector & I showed how to use it & I made a dress using it. Why do I have to say negative things about it? Why can’t I say all the things I do like about it & keep it positive. Sone people see the cup half full & it seems like your looking for the cup half empty. So no it’s not a dishonest video.
Sorry I don't see or hear anything from you in this video that says it's sponsored so not sure what I'm missing. But to frame it in a way that I'm "looking for a cup half empty" is pretty silly. If someone is going to drop $700 on a product it's not pessimistic of them to want to know any draw backs or difficulties in terms of pattern availability, the pricing etc. Like 99% of other UA-cam videos talking about products when not sponsored (considering when I posted the comment I didn't know if it was sponsored or not).
@@Ryanw131 thank you for your feedback
That was a lot of fun. I was never a seamstress but if I were I'd want a ditto machine. SUPER easier.
Totally!
I looked at one of these in a gallery when i was purchasing a serger recently! It seems like it has a lot of really cool potential. I can’t wait to see if it becomes more widespread and available to actually compete with good ole paper patterns
For sure. I'm super excited to play with it more. I'll put more videos on it as I do. Subscribe so you'll see them! 😉
Thanks for watching!
@@SewAnastasia I definitely will! It would be interesting to see an episode on patterns for men/male presenting people! I know one of my major difficulties/worries is finding interesting sewing patterns for myself and the men in my life. I would hate to have paid so much to find out they don’t really cater to my body type or sewing interests! I was super curious to see what type of selection they have! Super excited to see more! ❤️
I looked today and the patterns are pretty bereft of anything in the jacket and coat area. Lots and trousers and shirts though. Also i have bought tech things in the past that are subscription based or cloud connected and if they go away you are left with a pricey bit of hardware. Like the idea, but more male patterns and so on would help seal the deal!
@@nickthompson7743 more to come for sure. Keep your eye out!
I am on the fence on whether I will purchase this. Of course this is so awesome and exciting but the potential is limited since you cannot use it on all pdf/indie patterns. But I am in my mid 50s and have always had an interest and passion with learning how to sew. So now that I am fully retired, I am finally chasing my dream now and checking this off my bucket list. Basically I am half a century old and today will be the youngest day that I will ever be, so why not splurge on myself! I bought a BabyLock Unity and Triumph along with a Koala Serger center and a Horn of America cabinet, so why stop there? LOL
My reluctancy is, I am thinking, what if this company doesn't get the positive response from consumers that it was looking for and all of a sudden goes bankrupt? Then I just spent $800 for nothing. I wouldn't even be able to resell it! Who'd want it?! I wouldn't get any updated software nor app support anymore and no future patterns would be developed. Another thought is, Steve Jobs revolutionized the smart phone industry with the iPhone in 2007. Others quickly tried to catch up to this concept and followed suit and the mobile phone industry hasn't been the same since. What if other companies take off with this idea and make it even better? What if a newer company's version allow you to use it on any pdf file? I feel like I should hold off a bit and have the "wait and see" approach to see if more companies will continue to reshape this concept even further. With more competition, prices are bound to be driven down, but the current launch price of $800 is a bit steep.
They have told us that you will be able to put other pdf patterns in sometime with in the next year. They are working in that.it’s also 200$ off right now! So many it’s time to splurge 🎀
You can now put any pdf pattern in it & it’s 400$. They have been listening
@@SewAnastasia Sounds like the sewing community have been standoff ish with their ridiculously over the top price. Their business is probably NOT doing too well, otherwise why would they cave in? With these two objections out of the way, I am still on the fence with their subscription issue. Who wants to pay each month and not be able to keep any patterns?!
Love to buy a Ditto!
It is a fun sewing adventure.
its on sale at JoAnn for 399$ Black Friday deal! I got one
woohoo!!!
Very cool and you are adorable!
Thanks so much for watching!
I really love the Ditto but am concerned about needing to add larger sizes and the ease of use to accomplish such great results.
What size would you like to see it go up to?
A couple of questions - how do you do marking for the pattern pieces? Can you reproject and mark? Also, how much working space do you need for cutting?
Yes you can make with chalk to whatever your preference is. I do not know the size of the mat off the top of my head but I am sure it says on dittopatterns.com
I love this ! Would love to see if this works for the plus size sewing community
Totally! I mean u put in your measurements so it should adjust the pattern to fit.
I would like to know how much space will the projector occupy in my little room. The idea of a monthly membership doesn't attract me. I rather save my money to join your pattern classes. Cons aside the pros about less paper and a customized pattern does seem like a dream.
It really does not take any space up besides where you are going to cut out the fabric. Pattern classes and Ditto are very different. In class you learn how to make the pattern and with ditto you are cutting out your fabric from a projection to sew together.
If they sold this for 200$ and had a 50$ Annual Subskription I kould see this as a doable thing but it needs to have the ability to load your own pattern and add your dimensions I get gaming and flight Sims take priority over Sewing but they should be able to get 10 programers working on this for 3 months to turn out a solid APP........ They would also need to make a "Base Line" pattern in dimension then load them up to work with everyone's personalized body dimensions and it would be too easy for the app to make kalculations . 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻 Activision / Tencent Games would be able to push the development forward on this.
Great news!!! Its new 300$ and you can upload your own patterns!
@@SewAnastasia Nise 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Im going to buy A ditto
Joann has them for 399.99 Regular price is $799.99.
Such a great deal right now!
Do you have a video explaining what to buy for a projector, how to install and operate? Thanks so much!
With this projector system everything comes with it! The projector, the stand, a full pattern library and you can even buy the name brand patterns like simplicity and other indie designers. You can order it here www.joann.com/ditto-pattern-projector
I have that pattern. I used it for an apron and a makeup bag
Very cool. It’s such a great print!
i sew a lot of vintage patterns. This wouldn't help with that. I do love playing Frankenstein with my patterns and Ditto would be cool for that. But not for $800. when the technology gets cheaper, and it will, I'll revisit it. But right now it's cost prohibitive for most.
Oh yeah ditto would be cool to Frankenstein the patterns with. 💕 Thanks for watching 😊
Love the shoes! Would love a Ditto but its out of my price point for now.
Ditto is on sale at Joanns Fabric store for $399.99
Ditto is on sale at Joann Fabrics for 399.

Aloha Sew Anastasia 💚
Super helpful video!
What are the challenges of working with the Ditto?
Thank you kindly! 💫
Good question! one of the challenges is moving the fabric around for bigger pieces.
This is amazing! Do you add the seam allowance? Or does it already include it for you?
This looks neat but the price for what it does and the limitations is a kick in the teeth.
What limitations are you talking about?
@@SewAnastasia Oh I took a look at the website and it seems you are stuck within their system tied to purchasing a subscription or purchasing individual patterns from them. At a lower price point for me that's ok but I've purchased gadgets before that after a year or two are no longer serviced from the company side (I'm looking at you Google).
@@SewAnastasia You can't use it with any pdf/indie patterns.
@@proudasiangirl576 you can in a few months. They are actually updating the software 👏👏👏 so exciting right!!!!?
@@SewAnastasia really? So you can soon actually use your own digital pdf files and other indie files? Their initial launch sales must have been a total flop! They need to listen to users and survey our needs and wants for their company to be successful.
I purchased this! Excited to get started. I wish that all the patterns that they put in were free with the monthly fee. Ditto patterns are free but the other brands are not and all of the cute ones you have to pay for the pattern even though you have the membership. A bit disappointed by that.
What is your first project going to be on your new Ditto?
This Ditto projector seems like a great concept. As I watched the video I had questions. What if you want to flip a pattern piece because it would fit better in reverse? Where are the pattern markings for fitting sleeves, matching complex shapes, where to stop for a zipper opening? How much is the monthly subscription? Do you need a special table to place the projector on?
you can flip the pieces. All of the pattern notches are on the projection. I think it is 10$ a month. You can use any table that you want.
How do you know what size to pick before you put In measurements or can you do that first?
Also why did you surge everything first.
Live your videos ❤
There is a size chart you are going to want to reference on ditto to pick your base size. I serge everything first so it does not fall apart when I am sewing it and that way if I need to go back and take it in or let it out I do not have to seam rip the serge stitch. Thank you for watching ❤️
Neat
What do you do if you have a forward shoulder or a dowagers hump? How do you adjust the pattern when it isn't one of the dittos measurements? Asking for a friend with scoliosis ❤
I’m not sure actually. That would be a great question to ask their customer service. Let me know what they say.
I’ve been waiting for videos of people actually using Ditto for awhile. I see on your website you sell projector files for your patterns. Have you used a DIY projector set up? Can you compare the methods? I’d love to know what real users think, especially in comparing the two kinds.
I haven't used a DIY projector set up, but I have students who do. People I've spoken to had real trouble working out the calibration on their DIY setup, and the Ditto stand and mat make that easy.
You can use the large format patterns I sell on a DIY projector (or just print them at a copy shop), and I hope you'll be able to get them on Ditto in the future too.
@@SewAnastasia people get very afraid of the calibration for a DIY set up, but if you take it step by step, it's really not bad. Plus, for many people, that's a one time step. If it's not, you get pretty quick at it. I personally have set up my projectors several times and it gets easier every time! And it's less than half the cost of Ditto...AND you can use your own patterns (including from several companies that have custom measurement pattern available), not just the ones Ditto has available. For me, the balance is still heavily on the side of a DIY set up, but I can see how Ditto is a good choice for some.
@@DaileySewsStuff I'm going to look that up.
I'm a little nervous about using a rotary cutter for the pattern. I don't have a steady hand and usually use scissors to cut my patterns out. I am saving up for the Ditto cause I'm a tiny lady and even xsmall pants don't fit me.
I mean you can use scissors ✂️. You don’t have to use the rotary cutter.
Are you able to upload your own patterns into the ditto??
Yes!
Where do you put the projector? Set up? What does it look like? How do you store the projector? And can you change the color of the light? I see a white light. Suppose you have white fabric?
The ditto site & their UA-cam channel has the answers to your questions.
I noticed there was a price on the pattern you selected. Do patterns come with it or do you have to purchase when selected?
You can purchase them individually or get all the Ditto patterns with a monthly subscription.
Thanks for watching!
Question :I have alot of pdf and indie pattern that I have collected over the past few years, would I be able to upload these into this program?
Soon! Keep an eye out for that update
I would assume the seam allowances are incorporated into the pattern?
Correct
I just bought this yesterday and can’t get my projector to connect to my WiFi. I have spent over two hours trying all of the trouble shooting suggestions from Ditto, since it is of course Easter Sunday when I have time to sew, but customer service isn’t open until tomorrow. I hope they have some solutions for me, cuz I was really excited to use this, but now I’m heartbroken.
Oh boo. I wish I could help you.
@@SewAnastasia so far, JoAnns tried to help by exchanging one, even though I learned later they weren’t supposed to, but I appreciated the effort. Now this second one won’t even power up :( Hopefully Ditto can send me a projector that will work. So far I have only gotten a form letter style email from them. I’m disappointed but not giving up. I will keep you posted. It might help some of your viewers to know how Ditto may or may not stand behind their product. So far I have a $300 paper weight lol
Update! It’s a good one! Ditto offered to send me a replacement! So I have provided the info they asked for and hopefully it won’t be long before I’m creating things like you do!!
The cutting field seems so small. How does one handle larger pattern pices.?
You move the fabric and line it up with red dots.
If you have a PDF of a pattern from outside of DItto's catalogue, can you add it to Ditto?
But right now but you will be able to soon! So cool right?!
Is your Ditto quiet when it's on, or does it have sound to it. I'm just trying to figure out if it's bad because I got mine already, and it has sound to it, plus it has a rock in it or something. I'm wondering if that's what's causing it. I'm loving it, though, making a dress already. 🥰
It should be quiet 🤫 There is a small fan in it but no lose rock sounds. Happy you are having fun with it! Send pics!
@Sew Anastasia I'll contact them! Thank you 😊 Of course I will!! Working on a dress for an event my mom is going to on Saturday. 😁
I tried to do TailorNova and it was a disaster. I’d rather learn to draft patterns from a block. That’s a bunch of money people could spend on classes, like with you! I’m afraid this might be gone in 5 years.
Yeah understanding how to do it yourself is a wonderful skill to have.
How does one get around larger pattern pieces on ditto?
You put a marker dot on the fabric that is indicated on the pattern & then move your fabric & project the other piece of the pattern lining up the marker dot.
@@SewAnastasia they really have thought of everything!
I thought you could put in your the measurements and Ditto would draft your designs?
Kinda. Not all the patterns but a lot of the ditto patterns you can put in your measurements.
once you save something in your library, is it yours forever once your subscription is cancelled
I am not sure.
Custom measurements!! 🤯🤯🤯
Right!!! It’s a really cool feature
What about markings? Darts etc? Still watching. Did I miss something?
Hey. I just came back from doing a demo on The Ditto, at JoAnn Fabrics. Yes there are markings, just like a paper pattern and you need to transfer using a water soluble pen, before you cut it out. I think she may have skipped them for time sake🙂
The pattern will show them.
Is it a laser projektor or led build?
It is not a laser.
Hire much is the subscription to get the pattern and what happens to your patterns you have made if you stop the subscription?
I believe I found out that you lose them if you stop the subscription. Correct me if I’m wrong. That’s bad. There’s just too many things that don’t fit my style.
Can you download any PDF pattern?
The patterns that are available for use with the ditto are at dittopatterns.com
Does it come with sewing instructions?
Yes it does!
I have a question about the measurement of your body. Are they asking for your commercial size or are they asking for the pattern size that you measure?
You measure your actual body with a tape measure & put those measurements in. Hope that helps!
i am on the fence about using this new machine. Number one because what if you don't have a tablet to connect the machine on but a desktop computer? and Two, after buying the machine you STILL got to pay for a monthly subscription for the patterns and you cannot use patterns from other companies (Vogue) or your own downloaded patterns.
You can now upload any pdf pattern you want!
The ditto mat is not self healing so you may want to cut out your pattern on a different mat.
It is but it has those folds which ruin the blade so I totally use another mat after it’s calibrated!
what pattern is the dress youre wearing in this video??? LOL
The one I made in the video is Ditto's "Adina Dress A". The shiny pink/gold one I'm wearing is.. looking, looking.. Wow, they've got a whole lot more dresses in here than when I last looked. "Tisha". I added a second bodice and sleeve to make it symmetrical. There's so many dresses in this library! Have fun looking at them!
I do not sew enough to justify the cost - I also have no place to permanently set this up,
Thanks for watching & considering it. It is super easy to set up & take down btw. You don’t have to leave it up permanently. Thank you for your feedback. 💕💖 Happy sewing 🧵
Thanks for your video but the fact that after I use it and pay $99 for a year and if I can’t afford it the next year I lose all of my patterns is frankly BS! Ditto seems like a bs scam! So,disappointed in that product. Thank you again for your video.
Thank you for your feedback and watching. You could always trace them out on paper? 🤭 I know they are making non stop changes to the program to satisfy everyones needs. Keep an eye out for all of the updates. ❤️
It's not $99 for the year. It's $9.99 / month which comes out to $119.88 for the year. Sorry to make this even more depressing for you.
@@proudasiangirl576 ha. I mean just skip 2 Starbucks a month & you can have patterns galore!!!
£800 is a tad expensive 😲
Joann fabrics always has sales, right!? They look at me funny if I try to check out without a coupon. LOL Keep an eye out. Thanks for watching!
@@SewAnastasia we don’t know yet about Ditto but coupons nearly always have Cricut, sewing machines, and irons excluded so I have doubts, personally, that coupons will work with Ditto.
@@DaileySewsStuff Totally. Time to add it to the Christmas 🎄 list 🎀 * a little bird did tell me a promo is probably coming though ;)
Don’t think much of it. To pay $700.- , not worth it. A waste of money in my opinion. The whole video just yells sales job to me.
Oh, well thank you for watching me make a dress. Sewing is sew fun!
Love that dress! The ruffle add on made it perfect! I bought my Ditto on sale yesterday from Joann! I can’t WAIT to test it out! The subscription is free for three months sooo many to choose from!

I have a plus size daughter with a very large bust. It is impossible to sew for her without adjusting the pattern. Do you think this will be able to create a pattern for her?
I think it should. What are her measurements? I can try it.
There are better options and this Ditto is to expensive for me.
Thanks for watching & your feedback.
Such as?
The styles are not urban. So sad. I really want one but need street styles.
Maybe you can bring some street style to it! You can put in any PDF pattern now.
You kant even use your own pattern and the measurement profile doesn't work for all patterns...... It has potential but not worth it having to pay a subskription.
Thank you for your opinion & watching 💕
Not real impressed by your demo. The fit with ditto doesn’t seem to be a custom fit. Peach dress seemed to be to long in the bodice and the print dress seemed to gap around the neck
Thanks for the feedback & watching the video. 🎀
Anastasia, please don't tell me that you're working yourself out of a job 😢😢😢
LOL No I am not working myself out of a job. Don't worry. I am here to stay. Just enjoying the new tech along the way. I think I can get Sew Anastasia on Ditto too! ❤️
And so we lose the ability to to draft patterns and rely on projectors and apps. I can see the benefit. But sad. More dumbing down.
It is not for everyone. It is very different from drafting.
