    I lived in that apartment building when they filmed the movie. During the scene where Daniel and his mom first arrive and he's taking his bike off the car, I was standing on my balcony (says "South" on it). I had been watching them rehearse the scene a few times. When the director said he was ready to shoot, I asked if I should go back inside. He said no, it was okay if I stayed and watched. I wouldn't be seen.
    And yes, the wooden front gate was just installed for the movie. It was a metal gate before and after.

    For my 40th birthday we rented Golf n Stuff and had a slumber party in the secondary arcade. We got to use the go carts, arcade, golf course and slept in sleeping bags in the building that most of the KK footage was shot in front of. Plan on doing this again once covid subsides and if they still have the slumber party rental option. It's mostly meant for kids, but I am one. A kid of the 80s forever.

      sometimes...it also must be annoying seeing a couple of strangers at your doorstep everytime because you just happened to buy a house where a classic movie was filmed...I'm from Brazil and a couple of years ago, a TV crew from Record TV (a Brazilian TV channel) went to Philly to film the Rocky locations and the woman now livng in the Rocky's house in Rocky I and II felt a bit annoyed by their presence and she briefly told that it's usual for her to see strangers photographing her house...it must seem awesome at first, but as time goes by, it must be something invasive...

    I used to live in SoCal. I went to the GolfnStuff in Norwalk in the 80s. I live in the SF bay area now. The GolfLands here don't have the same fun environment as GolfNStuff. I also used to accompany my grandmother to Encino where she worked. Encino is an underrated city. It has huge beautiful houses with spectacular views. The house I used to visit was a 15k square foot house with 2 pools, a tennis court, and a huge greenhouse. We would have to walk pass the Jackson's house to get there. Good times.
    Good video as always 80s Life

    Great video! I used to be a long distance truck driver. During mid October 2016 I found myself with a couple days layover in Ontario, California. So I rented a car and visited a bunch of these locations. That had always been a dream of mine! I was 38 years old at the time. I'll be 43 in a week so I guess it's been 5 years ago now.
    South Seas: There was still an empty lot next door when I was there. The entire apartment building smelled like marijuana really bad and it didn't seem like anyone there spoke English. Lol!
    The beach: Yeah that was cool to visit. I walked up to the lifeguard tower and watched surfers for a while.
    The high school: Definitely visited there and saw the sign on the wall. I walked up and touched it with my hands because I just had to. I drove around the block and saw the fields out back. I wish I would have visited his locker. That's definitely a regret. From what I understand that school was also used for the movie Summer School which is another movie I loved.
    The dojos: I visited both locations. The exterior shots/Orient express location as well as the location of the interior shots which was being used as an exercise place. Orient Express was vacant.
    Ali's house: I drove past, but didn't get out of the car. It felt really weird driving in an area like that in a piece of junk rental car. I can assure you nobody else in that neighborhood was driving a VW Jetta. But that gate wasn't in front of their house in 2016. There isn't anywhere to park other than in someone's driveway or in front of someone's house. So I didn't get out and walk around people's homes. And I don't think people should really.
    Golf n Stuff: I believe my visit to this place was at an earlier time. I don't think it was during the same trip. But I played some games and a round of miniature golf with the guy I drove truck with. I don't think he understood the significance of the location. But they had a small poster or something on the wall near the cash registers with pictures and stuff from the movie.
    I didn't visit the other sites you mentioned, but I did add one location.
    The bonsai store: From Karate Kid 3. I saw the railroad tracks where Mike Barnes and his buddies were doing donuts in the road and were almost hit by a train.
    So in total I visited 8 locations. Very happy memory.

      Sounds like an awesome adventure. I'm the same age and would definitely enjoy looking at the locations. The apartment smelling like weed made me think there probably wasn't anyone around to reminisce about the movie.

    • @danielmoore1232
      @danielmoore1232 Рік тому +1

      @Adam Chapman it's very strange man. All of my favorite movies from my youth straight up lied to me. And I didn't know any better because I was just some kid living on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere Ohio.
      Think about all of the movies and TV shows from the 80's that took place in certain locations. For example the movies set in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. The demographics in those movies looked just like the demographics in my small town. Then I get there and I'm the only non-hispanic white dude for miles.
      It makes perfect sense to me now, but as a kid I had no idea. It's like Seinfeld. Set in NYC and not a single ethnic character. I just think that's kinda funny, but I think it makes some people really mad. Lol!
      But no, nobody there talks about those movies. In fact they're annoyed by tourists stopping by their apartment building to pose for pictures. They even put a gate up so people can't walk in by the swimming pool and stuff now.
      When you think about it, those are just financially poor folks living in Reseda just working and trying to keep up with the ridiculous cost of living in SoCal. They really don't want to be bothered.

    • @adamchapman3358
      @adamchapman3358 Рік тому +1

      @danielmoore1232 You bring up a good point. I didn't think about Hollywood bringing in their white cast of stars to these areas. I always assumed the demographic of the neighborhoods changed over time haha.
      The only movie location I wanted to see was "The last dragon" 1985.
      I was out in New York in 2018 visiting friends and time slipped by and I didn't get to see filming locations. I'm assuming Brooklyn will be primarily black neighborhood like movie but now I'm not sure lol.
      Please tell me you have seen the last dragon filming locations in Brooklyn?

    • @danielmoore1232
      @danielmoore1232 Рік тому

      @Adam Chapman yeah it's possible some of the demographics in the Valley changed over time. I'm not sure to what degree. But if that's the reason for the almost exclusively white casting in 80's teen movies like Karate Kid, Summer School, etc then it has REALLY changed over the past 30-40 years. But yeah that's possible.
      And unfortunately I never found myself with any time to do any exploring in New York City. I did drive a truck through Manhattan and drove right past the coffee shop restaurant from Seinfeld. It's much smaller than the show makes it look.
      I always wished for a layover in Atlanta. I wanted to go visit locations from the first season of the Dukes of Hazzard. The town square from the opening credits, which I hear looks very similar still today. The Boar's Nest which I hear is a church now, and maybe the exterior shots of the Sheriff's office. Just stuff like that.
      But unfortunately I'm a local truck driver now. I've not left Ohio for like 6 years at this point. I'm just old and fat now. No more exploring for me I guess.
