He had a lot of great songs including "Ziggy Stardust", "Rebel Rebel", "Young Americans", "Changes", "Fame", "Golden Years", "Ashes To Ashes", "Under Pressure", Let's Dance", "Modern Love", "China Girl", "Heroes" etc. Sadly we lost him in 2016.

I have to say the "Thin White Duke" era could be disappointing. There was just too much cocaine around then. Saw him on his Station to Station tour, he came on for 40 minutes, and left. No opening act. That is the one ticket price ($6.25) I remember from all the concerts back then.

Dude, Bowie is perhaps the most diverse musical genius of the past century. Everything from folk to rock to metal to R&B to jazz to avante garde.... He's got SO much music for you to get into!
He also was an exceptional actor and a plastic artist/painter. Philanthropist and activist. Please research this beautiful being! He was merely lent to this planet for a brief time.
When you get a chance, you should watch the video of Commander Chris Hadfield (astronaut) performing "Space Oddity" on an acoustic guitar inside the International Space Station. Watching him and his guitar floating in a most unusual way out in space is one of the most surreal cinematic shots ever recorded, it's one of those things that is beautiful for just it's own existence. Thankfully David Bowie was able to see that version of the song performed out in space before he died, and Bowie absolutely loved it. It has 53 million views on youtube.

It hit exceptionally hard. I was shocked at the grief I felt as well... it was the day after I heard Black Star... and tbh, the darkness of that album points to a rather bleak ever after... I think he realized he was about to meet the one he made the deal with...
This masterpiece was recorded in 1968 before the moon landing, though the video was from 1972. David was born just 2 miles from me in Brixton, South East London and then both families moved 8 miles to the edge of S E London and Kent. Went to Art College with Peter Frampton and his Dad taight them both:)
"Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" Is one of his best albums. The last song on the album "Rock and Roll Suicide" is short simple yet, so powerful!

David Bowie is something beyond comprehension. His catalog is like wandering through some kind of prolonged dream and he is such a fantastic storyteller. He is epic in every way.. I envy you that you get to discover his work. When he passed I had a breakdown in my kitchen. I literally howled. It was like losing my incredibly hot older brother who introduced me to everything that mattered in my life. I have met so many people that feel this way about Bowie. Since Bowie died things haven't been right with the world...

Duets with Freddie Mercury (Under Pressure), with Mick Jagger (Dancin’ in the Street) and favorite go-to’s like Golden Years, Fame, Changes, Young Americans to his 80’s pop stuff like Let’s Dance, Modern Love & China Girl. The man was a genius and you can’t go wrong with any of his work.

Col Chris Hadfield recorded a cover of this while he was up in the International Space Station. The video is amazing since you are literally seeing the Earth below him and the stars above. The video was released days before his return. I feared if something horrible happened during his descent, this would be his goodbye. I still tear up seeing that video and happy he made it back safe and sound.

This song is the beginning of a trilogy of songs that are somewhat autobiographical. This one is a metaphor for his drug habit... it's stunningly sad when you understand the real meaning. The other songs are Ashes to Ashes and Darkstar, all done years apart, and all very poingant.

So you'll see him adopt personas throughout his career, but you'll never get to know the real him. A legend and an enigma.

Had the good fortune to see David Bowie on his "Glass Spider" tour from the fourth row at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa., and it was a spectacle. He even had Peter Frampton come out and play on a few songs. I can't remember if he played "Space Oddity", I doubt it, he like to move forward, and wasn't much for a "greatest hits" show. Still awesome.

Bowie was an extraordinary artist and song writer, other-worldly at times. My son has been discovering the music his ‘oldie’ mother and this track was the first I showed him and it blew his mind, and down the rabbit hole he has gone. Bowie reinvented himself and evolved over the decades, so there is a treasure trove of great songs to explore, enjoy!!
David Bowie has an incredible catalog. In addition to the songs mentioned by others, there’s a fantastic song he wrote and sang, done with the Pat Metheny Group called “This is Not America”, from the movie Falcon and The Snowman. I think you’ll really enjoy it. ❤
This was truly an oddity when it was released in 1969 - just weeks before the Apollo 11 moon mission was scheduled to launch. KUDOS for listening over and over so many times. One of my favorite Bowie songs remains GOLDEN YEARS, from his 10th album Station To Station (1976).
There’s a brilliant moment in “Walter Mitty” (who’s a little shy maybe even cowardly in his own mind) where he steps out of his own comfort zone for the first time in his life and he does it because he’s inspired by his new feelings for a girl. He imagines her singing this song to him, and it gives him the power he needs. Bowie the master, RIP, there are only a few in his league really. A craftsman and an elegant sweet person. Give “Mitty” a whirl is you want to have 2 hours of good feelings. You’ll also get introduced to my favorite and still undiscovered band “Rogue Valley” Try their masterpiece “Wolves and The Ravens” Nice work bro. I mean it
I saw Bowie on every tour he ever did in the U.S. since Ziggy Stardust(73). Usually multiple times. I've seen him at least 60 times. My favorite artist.
Many people may not know this, but Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield made a very cool video of himself (with permission from David Bowie) singing this song and playing it on his guitar at the International Space Station. It’s on UA-cam last I checked.

As a teenager in the seventies there were so many bands to fall in love with, Bowie was one of my favourites. Check out a few of his other songs such as Lady Grinning Soul, Sweet Thing , Ashes to Ashes.. I could go on forever, he's incredible.
David Bowie is very talented. He has evolved, changed and expanded his music over the years from 1967 until his recent death. I bought his 1974 album David Live and I liked it, and he has generated good music since then. Great showman.
If you haven't, go check out Labyrinth. He's in the movie & he sings a few songs in it. If you've seen a movie called A Knight's Tale w/ Heath Ledger, he did the song Golden Years...which BTW I've heard he wrote for Elvis cause they were supposedly gonna do an album together, but never got the chance cause Elvis died. Other good songs are Under Pressure which he sang w/ Queen, Let's Dance, & Changes.

I had the pleasure of seeing him live once with Peter Gabriel and the Tubes as the opening acts, great concert. You don’t have to react to this but I think you might enjoy Chris Hadfield performing those on the International Space Station.
There is a 1982 or ‘83 recording by Peter Schilling a German singer who answered David Bowies Space Oddity, schilling’s was called Major Tom / Coming Home … which has a happy ending for major Tom he was coming home. Peter Schillings versions are all in a disco/club type vibe which was big in European clubs, his first version was done in German his mother tongue and later he did them in English and his versions were popular in Europe & later North America! David Bowie’s 🇬🇧recordings will always be at the top for me ☮️ I love all his songs🥰💥

The thing that really gets me is that this was released right before Apollo 11 launched--just a few days, in fact. Can you imagine if any of the astronauts had heard it before the mission? What would that have been like for them? I've just always wondered about that.
I was 5 or so when this song came out and it hooked me immediately. He had so many ideas, so many different songs, styles, images.... Singer...actor...artist...poet..... When he died, I felt like a light went out in the world. He was unique. There will only ever be one Bowie.

Ok, first, exploring David Bowie’s catalog is a deep rabbit hole. He was ever-changing, ever-evolving, staying relevant through constant reinvention in his sound and his look. A true artist. I can’t experience his music for the first time again, but my suggestion would be to try to go somewhat chronologically, in order to really appreciate the way he reinvented himself through the years. I’d suggest “Ziggy Stardust” or “Changes” for the next reaction. Second, I’ve seen some of your videos over the past year, and finally subbed a couple weeks ago. I wanted to say that I do like your new system of filming your commentary after you’ve finished listening to the song. While there can be magic in getting a reactor’s immediate response as they hear a new song, there’s also value in hearing what they think once they’ve had a little time to process what they just listened to. Also, it lets you out of pausing the song (it doesn’t bother me much, though I know it annoys many viewers); I know it’s part of fair use, and if we want no pausing, why don’t we just watch the video you’re reacting to?! 😂. For me, when I do get bothered by pausing the song, it’s because I worry that you (the reactor) are losing out on something by taking yourself out of the experience. Anyway, like what you’re doing, keep those vids coming. 😊
I thought about recommending this to you. Glad you’ve already done it. David Bowie is genre-bending. You can’t hear just one song and know what he’s about. He’s was an amazing talent more interested in pushing limits than being a radio star. There is a great video made by an astronaut on the space station singing this song and playing guitar. It’s beautiful visually and a just cool.

The man was a genius and you can’t go wrong with any of his work.

IIRC, Fame was co-written with John Lennon and Carlos Alomar, Bowie's guitarist at the time (and many albums since).

Col Chris Hadfield recorded a cover of this while he was up in the International Space Station. The video is amazing since you are literally seeing the Earth below him and the stars above. The video was released days before his return. I feared if something horrible happened during his descent, this would be his goodbye. I still tear up seeing that video and happy he made it back safe and sound.
What ever song you are listening to of David Bowie, you’re listening to the future. And listening to them now, you still are. Bowie is still the future of music. Genius.

This song is the beginning of a trilogy of songs that are somewhat autobiographical. This one is a metaphor for his drug habit... it's stunningly sad when you understand the real meaning. The other songs are Ashes to Ashes and Darkstar, all done years apart, and all very poingant.

David Bowie lived near me and used to play in the park bandstand at lunchtimes. He was an intensely shy and private young man, and he got over it by creating masks for him to wear when he performs. So you'll see him adopt personas throughout his career, but you'll never get to know the real him. A legend and an enigma.
Alot of these songs are like short stories and the musicians are incredible IMHO.

Had the good fortune to see David Bowie on his "Glass Spider" tour from the fourth row at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa., and it was a spectacle. He even had Peter Frampton come out and play on a few songs. I can't remember if he played "Space Oddity", I doubt it, he like to move forward, and wasn't much for a "greatest hits" show. Still awesome.
I think David Bowie was ethereal and may have been from another world. Love his music.

Every song of his is different. This was his first hit. Blackstar from his last ever album has thick atmosphere as well and is an awesome cap for his career.

Every year my appreciation of David Bowie grows a bit more . Anyone looking for a musical adventure should start with his first album and go through album by album taking time to appreciate one of the most amazing artists ever.
Polo I really don't think you have any idea about the volume of great music that was written in 3 to 4 decades of Rock. Bowie has an incredible and deep catalog for you to explore.
Bowie was an extraordinary artist and song writer, other-worldly at times. My son has been discovering the music his ‘oldie’ mother and this track was the first I showed him and it blew his mind, and down the rabbit hole he has gone. Bowie reinvented himself and evolved over the decades, so there is a treasure trove of great songs to explore, enjoy!!

David Bowie has an incredible catalog. In addition to the songs mentioned by others, there’s a fantastic song he wrote and sang, done with the Pat Metheny Group called “This is Not America”, from the movie Falcon and The Snowman. I think you’ll really enjoy it. ❤
This was truly an oddity when it was released in 1969 - just weeks before the Apollo 11 moon mission was scheduled to launch. KUDOS for listening over and over so many times. One of my favorite Bowie songs remains GOLDEN YEARS, from his 10th album Station To Station (1976).
My favorite is from a much later Bowie era. It’s from the album 1.Outside and is called “Strangers When We Meet”.
There’s a brilliant moment in “Walter Mitty” (who’s a little shy maybe even cowardly in his own mind) where he steps out of his own comfort zone for the first time in his life and he does it because he’s inspired by his new feelings for a girl. He imagines her singing this song to him, and it gives him the power he needs.
Bowie the master, RIP, there are only a few in his league really. A craftsman and an elegant sweet person.

Many people may not know this, but Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield made a very cool video of himself (with permission from David Bowie) singing this song and playing it on his guitar at the International Space Station. It’s on UA-cam last I checked.

As a teenager in the seventies there were so many bands to fall in love with, Bowie was one of my favourites. Check out a few of his other songs such as Lady Grinning Soul, Sweet Thing , Ashes to Ashes.. I could go on forever, he's incredible.
David Bowie is very talented. He has evolved, changed and expanded his music over the years from 1967 until his recent death. I bought his 1974 album David Live and I liked it, and he has generated good music since then. Great showman.

If you've seen a movie called A Knight's Tale w/ Heath Ledger, he did the song Golden Years...which BTW I've heard he wrote for Elvis cause they were supposedly gonna do an album together, but never got the chance cause Elvis died. Other good songs are Under Pressure which he sang w/ Queen, Let's Dance, & Changes.

David Bowie didn’t just reinvent himself he reinvented EVERYONE.
There is a 1982 or ‘83 recording by Peter Schilling a German singer who answered David Bowies Space Oddity, schilling’s was called Major Tom / Coming Home … which has a happy ending for major Tom he was coming home. Peter Schillings versions are all in a disco/club type vibe which was big in European clubs, his first version was done in German his mother tongue and later he did them in English and his versions were popular in Europe & later North America!

Really have enjoyed your reactions and understand you must stop the musics because of rules but part of the enjoyment is listening and watching the ups & downs while listening/ watching as it goes. It brings me back to when I first heard some of these song and just amazed at the feeling s / emotions as you go along . Prefer not so much stopping.
The thing that really gets me is that this was released right before Apollo 11 launched--just a few days, in fact. Can you imagine if any of the astronauts had heard it before the mission? What would that have been like for them? I've just always wondered about that.

David Bowie also had a few of outstanding collaborations with other artists. Apart from obviously Under Pressure with Queen, you may know his live duet with Tina Turner "Tonight", which is my absolute favourite. They were SOOO good together. So full of power and joy, it never fails to make me smile, even grin. ❤
GREAT reaction Polo!! A deep dive into Bowie will be well worth the journey! He's known as The Chameleon for a reason - he takes on the persona in each album/song. Whether it be Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Insane, Thin White Duke, etc...he IS the character!

I saw the Victoria and Albert museum retrospective 15 yrs ago. It was AMAZING! I'm a Bowie fan and I never realised just how many songs of his I knew.

Ok, first, exploring David Bowie’s catalog is a deep rabbit hole. He was ever-changing, ever-evolving, staying relevant through constant reinvention in his sound and his look. A true artist. I can’t experience his music for the first time again, but my suggestion would be to try to go somewhat chronologically, in order to really appreciate the way he reinvented himself through the years. I’d suggest “Ziggy Stardust” or “Changes” for the next reaction.
Second, I’ve seen some of your videos over the past year, and finally subbed a couple weeks ago. I wanted to say that I do like your new system of filming your commentary after you’ve finished listening to the song. While there can be magic in getting a reactor’s immediate response as they hear a new song, there’s also value in hearing what they think once they’ve had a little time to process what they just listened to. Also, it lets you out of pausing the song (it doesn’t bother me much, though I know it annoys many viewers); I know it’s part of fair use, and if we want no pausing, why don’t we just watch the video you’re reacting to?! 😂. For me, when I do get bothered by pausing the song, it’s because I worry that you (the reactor) are losing out on something by taking yourself out of the experience. Anyway, like what you’re doing, keep those vids coming. 😊

I thought about recommending this to you. Glad you’ve already done it. David Bowie is genre-bending. You can’t hear just one song and know what he’s about. He’s was an amazing talent more interested in pushing limits than being a radio star. There is a great video made by an astronaut on the space station singing this song and playing guitar. It’s beautiful visually and a just cool.
