David Bowie is incredible, his creativity was off the charts, everyone can learn something from him, risk taking, song writing, and record producers said he was unlike anyone at the time, he was pitch perfect & was a one-take wonder in the studio. He often would just record one take of his vocals.

Great to see you reacting to Bowie. His 1972 album 'The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars' is one of the most iconic and influential of all time. Bowie has too many great hits to mention but 'Starman' is as good as any to do next. He was a chameleon, one of the most innovative and creative geniuses of the 70's (and some will say beyond). His albums evolve from one to the next as he explores different musical directions. To mention him in the same breath as Billy Idol is, let's just say a bit wide of the mark (but I won't hold that against you lol). P.S. The moon landing happened July 20, 1969, no matter what the conspiracy morons may wish to believe and '2001 A Space Odyssey' is a book by Arthur C Clark and an iconic movie by Stanley Kubric, both from 1968. Interestingly they worked together on the story. Cheers
I often think of Bowie when listening to Ren. Bowie was never constrained to any particular genre. Multi talented, playing guitar, sax and keys. A great actor. His back catalogue is huge and his influence on multiple artists is enormous. Personal favourite is Sweet Thing, Candidate, Sweet Thing reprise. A tour deforce of his vocal range. But to be fair you could pick any song at random and it will be a classic.
Bowie changed styles so much that the only thing his discography has in common is that each song *perfectly* encapsulates that moment in time. He was always two steps ahead of the rest of us, and he is deeply missed ❤
Bowie said he was inspired by the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey that premiere the year before this song was released. But the song came out only days before the Apollo 11 mission, with the first people to walk on the moon. So his timing was perfect.
I am sure you have heard “Let’s Dance” and “Fame” you just may not have known it was Bowie. I think The Big Push covered his song “Heroes”. Love that you are doing these iconic songs by legendary artists! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Was told recently that this song is about his battle with drugs. Ground control is sober David, Tom is under the influence. He followed it up years later with ashes to ashes, almost like a sequel. Learning this really made me appreciate the man's brilliance

By far my favorite David Bowie song. I was blessed enough to see him live in concert in Atlanta. He had no opening act. He played for two hours took a twenty minute break and came back out and played another two hours. Mind blowing 🤯.
You probably know pop Bowie’s songs like “Let’s Dance” and “China Girl” but I like Ziggy Stardust /Diamond Dogs Bowie with songs like “Suffragette City”, “Five Years, “Diamond Dogs” and “Rebel Rebel”.
You cannot put him in one genre. He constantly reinvented himself. He was the first artist to make his music available to stream, on his own. PLEASE do more by him from lots of different times. I was lucky to see him live in Portland for the Glass Spider tour. You should check UA-cam for interviews with him also. He was such an interesting and intelligent person, and when necessary put interviewers in their place.
There is a reference to major tom in his ashes to ashes song... the video for that is certainly unique for its time. He crossed many different genres during his time. Major tom is from his ziggy stardust time. You might be interested in particular with two duets he did - bing Crosby and mick jagger. Let's dance is a great track too. I would suggest trying at least one track from all of his incarnations. Its definitely worth the journey. He is much missed. Btw greetings from Glasgow Scotland to you and the boyz xx
There's nothing like Bowie. There is an element of performance art combined with amazing musicianship and innovation. He was also an accomplished actor including classic films like "The Man Who Fell to Earth" and "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence".
Great reaction! Bowie is unmatched. Such a rare talent. My favorite is Life on Mars. For you: Fame Let’s Dance Changes Heroes Modern Love Golden Years Ziggy Stardust You can’t go wrong with any Bowie song.
Thanks for this. Song 1968, a year before The Moon Landing, and video 1972,I believe, David was born 2 miles from me in Brixton, South East London, and was one of the greatest artists to come out of England, and that says an enormous amount. He even made songs and accompanying videos about his impending death.
Bowie is a legend. He changed music forever. ❤ Good for you, that you finally get to listen to him. 😊 Life On Mars is one of my favorites. But most of his songs are awesome.
The moon landing was in 1969. My father was an engineer on the Gemini and Apollo missions, and he certainly believed in the moon landing. I watched the telecast with him on that day. It was so exciting. I think both of us got teary.
Bowie is a treasure for us to enjoy. His music was variety full of emotion and whimsy. Til this day i bounce around groovin like a 3 yr old in the front seat when Fame comes on.
Bowie went through complete costume and musical types every few years. He reinvented his own image, always experimenting with new sounds. Nothing he produced was bad or boring! My favorite? "Changes"! That song saved my life from emo-heavy teen angst and suicidal thoughts. But at the other end of the spectrum, a silly (probably drug-induced) song called "The Laughing Gnome". "Rebel, Rebel", "Let's Dance", and "Heroes" are all must-hear songs. Honestly, you could pick a couple songs from each album just to watch his evolution. And please, don't forget the entire soundtrack of the movie "Labyrinth" where he portrayed an awesome Goblin King! Really looking forward to you experiencing more of my favorite solo artist :)
Time - from the first listen up to now, for me, one of the best songs of all time.(not a pun) I'm 73 now and it relates even more. People forget the movie "The man who fell to Earth". Love him so much, couldn't believe he died, I somehow believed he would never die.
Awww just beautiful ❤ love and miss David ❤️ beautiful man. Isnt anyone gonna mention "Labyrinth" 😊 I know his earlier stuff (Ziggy Stardust) is stunning but we cant forget the Goblin King ❤😂❤😂
Bowie was brilliant in both his music and on his insights regarding culture and society. He was a smart and way before his time, here is what he said in 1999 about the internet: "I don't think we've even seen the tip of the iceberg. I think the potential of what the Internet is going to do to society, both good and bad, is unimaginable. I think we're actually on the cusp of something exhilarating and terrifying. I'm talking about the actual context and the state of content is going to be so different to anything that we can really envisage at the moment where the interplay between the user and the provider will be so in simpatico that it is going to crush our ideas of what mediums are all about." (Bowie 1999)
EVERYONE has been influenced by David Bowie. Heroes” was my introduction to the amazing David Bowie. From there I went back in his catalog. And then I got to go forward with him through the years. So lucky to have spun around the sun while he was with us.
I admire and respect that you are open to other forms of music and want to learn about them. You have a magical world of 60's and 70''s rock music, waiting to be discovered. Good luck and enjoy.
This song is the first of three that tell the story of major Tom. Second is Ashes to ashes. The final song is Time will crawl. They should make a movie.
Known as The Chameleon, Bowie was not just a musical force, he was one of the most sophisticated performance artists of our age -- perhaps of several. I say this as a seasoned arts professional, which is to emphasize that we are not known for generous superlatives. Yes, his influence is found in punk, the new romantics/new wave genres, alternative, etc. I'm especially intrigued by your thoughts on the Prince and Bowie connection. I've often said, they were the two sides of the same genius musical coin. Enjoy the journey.
Total genius. He was an innovator and totally original. He re-invented himself time and time again. In my opinion the best artist and performer that ever lived. He didn't fall into any category....... David Bowie's genre was David Bowie! RIP
"Let's Dance" got massive radio play and drew national attention to Stevie's guitar skills. He played on several tracks on the China Girl album in fact.
He was a true original. My all time favorite Christmas carol was him singing a duet of Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby (from the Bing Crosby Show). So unexpected and magical. Both of them. Talk about going back in time!
I have been to MANY concerts. From Slayer to Cinderella to Todd Rundgren to Bullet Boys to David Bowie. And Bowie was BY FAR the best live show of them all. No comparison. David Bowie's look changed with every new album. The man is and always be a legend.
For a real treat, listen to David Bowie and Bing Crosby doing "White Christmas/Little Drummer Boy". The blend of the voices of these two masters is amazing. Let's Dance, Dancin in the streets with Mick Jagger, China Girl Under Pressure with Queen are some treats for your ears.
In the 70ies Bowie formed the worlds first "society for the prevention of cruelty to long haired men". As he said: "Anyone who has the courage to wear their hair down to his shoulders has to go through hell. It’s time we were united and stood up for our curls. Everybody makes jokes about you on a bus, and if you go past navvies digging in the road, it’s murder!’ -Still applies to this day.

Comparison to Ren is 🔥. So many different genres..
My thoughts exactly. I would've loved a Bowie and Ren collab.
My favourite was Heroes at Live Aid later used to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989
Was told recently that this song is about his battle with drugs. Ground control is sober David, Tom is under the influence. He followed it up years later with ashes to ashes, almost like a sequel. Learning this really made me appreciate the man's brilliance
My understanding is that his drug problems began in earnest in 1974. I’m delighted to say he completely cleaned up before passing on. Even cigarettes!
He was one of the greatest artists we will ever know. Simply a legend. All his material is great. I miss him so much ❤
Bowie was always ahead of his time. Forever exploring, not afraid to try new things, new looks, new beats. Fucking genius.
Bowie was never ahead of time he was time
🙋🏼♂️ 🇬🇧 this isn't just a rabbit hole this is the whole freakin' warren !! He is one of the goats no question , a chameleon in fashion & music ! ... day 13 BP .. Cab Calloway , Jumpin' Jive .. thank you 🙏🏻
By far my favorite David Bowie song. I was blessed enough to see him live in concert in Atlanta. He had no opening act. He played for two hours took a twenty minute break and came back out and played another two hours. Mind blowing 🤯.
You lucky lady!
I am so envious! What an experience!
You probably know pop Bowie’s songs like “Let’s Dance” and “China Girl” but I like Ziggy Stardust /Diamond Dogs Bowie with songs like “Suffragette City”, “Five Years, “Diamond Dogs” and “Rebel Rebel”.
Agreed, 70's Bowie is great, thinking Moonage Daydream and Jean Genie to add to your list.
His duet with Bing Crosby is another classic.
The man the myth the legend.
Next do, let's Dance, a David Bowie song with Steven Ray Vaughan on guitar, it's a masterpiece ❤
For you:
Fame
Let’s Dance
Changes
Heroes
Modern Love
Golden Years
Ziggy Stardust
You can’t go wrong with any Bowie song.
Thanks for this. Song 1968, a year before The Moon Landing, and video 1972,I believe,
David was born 2 miles from me in Brixton, South East London, and was one of the greatest artists to come out of England, and that says an enormous amount.
He even made songs and accompanying videos about his impending death.
11th July,1969..
Bowie is a legend. He changed music forever. ❤
Good for you, that you finally get to listen to him. 😊
Life On Mars is one of my favorites. But most of his songs are awesome.
David Bowie - Genius, EPIC, what a legend! Love and miss him!
You said it. With Bowie, you NEVER knew what to expect. He looks and sounds different every time.
The moon landing was in 1969. My father was an engineer on the Gemini and Apollo missions, and he certainly believed in the moon landing. I watched the telecast with him on that day. It was so exciting. I think both of us got teary.
Bowie may be the most influential artist in history of modern music .
Bowie is a treasure for us to enjoy. His music was variety full of emotion and whimsy. Til this day i bounce around groovin like a 3 yr old in the front seat when Fame comes on.
Whimsy! Exactly, brilliant whimsy!
What memories! I had that record and jammed to it on my tennis racket when I was 7. 😂It spooked me a little bit, but I l❤ved it! 🤩
Chills. Everytime.
“Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do.” Too true. 😢
Bowie was and is the ORIGINAL rock stars in every way....He created what we take for granted for today....
Check out "Little China Girl" Not so sure this song would fly today, but worth a listen along with many others.
Colorado,I love living here ❤ Great state to live in!
Check out Rebel Rebel, Jean Genie or Let’s Dance w/SRV on guitar.
Bowie is a once in a hundred years type talent.
We were blessed to have witnessed it in our lifetimes.
Well Said..
Awww just beautiful ❤ love and miss David ❤️ beautiful man. Isnt anyone gonna mention "Labyrinth" 😊 I know his earlier stuff (Ziggy Stardust) is stunning but we cant forget the Goblin King ❤😂❤😂
Bowie = pure genius 😁🇬🇧🇬🇧
If you've watched the movie 'The Martian' they play a David Bowie song in it's entirety called Starman, my personal favorite.
Bowie was brilliant in both his music and on his insights regarding culture and society. He was a smart and way before his time, here is what he said in 1999 about the internet:
"I don't think we've even seen the tip of the iceberg.
Good luck and enjoy.
this song just has a vibe to it.. always has....Bowie was a musical genuis
The man who sold the world
Bowie changed his entire persona very often. He is a true legend. Life on Mars is one of my favorites.
Wow, you have now reacted to so much of the music i grew up with and listened to all the time
my first gig was as a 12yr old back in 1987, my uncle brought me to see Bowie on his Glass Spider tour... changed my life 🔥😎🤘
Respect & Peace ☘
This is one of his appearances. Performance artist, writer, musician, vocalist. Icon.
This song is the first of three that tell the story of major Tom. Second is Ashes to ashes. The final song is Time will crawl. They should make a movie.
Thank you.
I knew there is a trilogy of songs, but I couldn’t remember the last one.
Interesting.
Time Will Crawl is not the third song I was thinking of.
Off to research some more.
SUCH a GREAT catalog to dive into!! BOWIE was SO CREATIVE!!! He is SO SORELY MISSED!! RIP, Mr. Bowie!!
RIP
"David Bowie - Let's Dance" is a bop.
And Stevie Ray Vaughan is on guitar on that one!
"Let's Dance" got massive radio play and drew national attention to Stevie's guitar skills. He played on several tracks on the China Girl album in fact.
I love Modern Love
The title "Space Oddity" is inspired by the book and movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" by Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick.
He was a true original. My all time favorite Christmas carol was him singing a duet of Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby (from the Bing Crosby Show). So unexpected and magical. Both of them. Talk about going back in time!
Aurora covering Bowie's life are mars is breath taking ❤😊
I have been to MANY concerts. From Slayer to Cinderella to Todd Rundgren to Bullet Boys to David Bowie. And Bowie was BY FAR the best live show of them all. No comparison. David Bowie's look changed with every new album. The man is and always be a legend.
I think BP would like David Bowie's 'Golden Years' the performance he did on the 'Soul Train' is brilliant 👍
Amazing original artist….i always think of him as the Ren of the seventies 🔥🔥
Bowie is a towering musical icon
Perfect 1st song to listen to if you start going down a Bowie rabbit hole!
My ultimate idol. He had a LIFETIME of brilliant music. Worlds greatest rock star, IMHO!!!
In the 70ies Bowie formed the worlds first "society for the prevention of cruelty to long haired men".
As he said: "Anyone who has the courage to wear their hair down to his shoulders has to go through hell. It’s time we were united and stood up for our curls. Everybody makes jokes about you on a bus, and if you go past navvies digging in the road, it’s murder!’
-Still applies to this day.
In the 60's.
@@miki03soimu you are right, it was in 64! -and he was only 17!😄
❤re- invented himself with every album! Love Pinups with David and Angie painted up on the cover! Has the love song Sorrow, so beautiful, Do Sorrow
Heroes just happen to be a song that The Big Push did, but heroes was by David Bowie
The world is millions of years old and the fact we were alive when Bowie was is a blessing
I didn’t know there was anyone who hadn’t heard this 😳🎶
Of course, it's incredible . It's David Bowie 🎉❤
You know how you like how REN and can adapt to any type of music? David Bowie was always leading different genres. Where David went everyone followed. Loved him. He was a fantastic song writer for others and a great producer. One album that springs to mind Is Lou Reeds Transformer album. Try young Americans
Yes - I always describe Ren, to people who don’t know him, as a modern day David Bowie - then they’re interested! 😁
Glad you enjoyed it, one of my favorites … (as you might have guessed)
The Big Push do a brilliant cover of Heroes by David Bowie 😁
David Bowie and Queen- Under Pressure is a must
Also 'Let's Dance' is big and features Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar!
Ashes to ashes is a great song he waz so talented
You have to listen to 5 years. One of my favorite Bowie songs!
Ashes to Ashes has always been my favorite. We get to revisit Major Tom.
That week in January 2016 when we lost David Bowie, followed by Alan Rickman, really knocked me sideways. Both had pancreatic cancer and both were 69. RIP both.
Just lost much loved Steve Wright at 69, as well.
I'm 69 in London...
@@Isleofskye Steve Wright, yes indeed. And I'm also 69. In Spain!
@@TenCapQuesada Hi Janet. May for my 70th birthday. What are you doing in Spain when the fields and countryside are so green and pleasant here? lol
I am right on the edge of London and I am returning tomorrow night and Saturday but have just returned from a lovely weekend in West Sussex and The Daffodils are already out everywhere. Did you emigrate and how do you like it, please?
@Isleofskye Hi there! Nice to hear from you again! Yes, I have permanent residency in Spain and have done for the past 20 years - haven't even been back once. I moved here with my mother (who passed away 10 years ago) and I'd recommend it to anyone - lovely weather, lifestyle, and people. Sometimes I think of you all back in Britain - but not often!
@@TenCapQuesadaHi. Thanks for your reply. We have different preferences, Janet. lol, In fact,I have not been abroad since before you moved to Spain. That was a 2001 holiday in Tenerife and that and the 1996 break in Portugal were the only ones since Lanzarote in 1988. Though I did go to The Isle Of Wight in 2017 😀
I'm afraid every part of me is English and a Londoner but it sounds great. Take Care.
My daughter understood and listened to this with me as a child. Now, she's 15 and we cry together even at the beginning, just because we know whats coming. You see where REN has been influenced by Bowies story telling abilities. THe MAn Who Fell to Earth is a great Movie with Bowie as an alien. Much Love as always my brother !
