Wow I remember the previous video and he looooooks amazing and you health benefits! Congratulations on becoming a part of the vegan club! Everyone can make a change for our health, animal rights, and our environment!
Welcome new vegan. I too eat Esselstyn style permanently 98% of the time. Active. It's been a progression, but it's easy now. We are just habituated to the way we eat/macros. This makes it seem like the "diet" is strict. However it's not really strict, it's quite natural when you really think about it. Therefore I don't consider it strict, or a diet. It's simply the way I was meant to live ;) Much love brother
Vegan is the way to go I have lost 64lbs since going vegan in February...best decision EVER!!!...congrats Jay and much continued success on your new healthy lifestyle :)
You lost all that just from changing your diet?! I’ve been vegetarian since March but havent been able to fully commit to vegan yet. I’m hoping to next year though! Do you eat a Whole Foods diet or do you indulge in vegan treats/meat substitutes?
@@sarahbunny9283 If you swap butter, cheese and milk for plant versions of those, you will lose weight, because the plant versions are lower in bad fat and higher in good fats (that get rid of bad fat). Losing meat is good for not killing animals, but most of the fat omnivores eat isn't from meat, it's from dairy.
Hi Sarah, initially I read The Starch Solution which was really helpful but I have found that eating intuitively works best for me...meaning whatever my body tells me it needs...so I do both to keep it interesting...I also work out 3 times a week with cardio at the gym and an in home workout system called 3x3 Fit and yoga almost every day for at least 15mins...I do want to point out that I will be 56 in December so it is never too late to change your life...good luck!!!
WOW!!! He looks 10 years younger!!! GREAT JOB!!! Would love to continue to see updates on his journey! He cracks me up with always checking the time!!! LOL!
Byron! I get to see Dr. Esselstyn at VegFest here in Portland really soon! I hope to talk with him. I met his daughter last year. She's so genuine and a sweetheart.
Awesome job on the weight loss! Congrats to your friend. I also started following a vegan lifestyle with Dr Greger’s plan. (I don’t like to call it a diet) and have lost 48lbs since the first week of June. I have never felt better and don’t miss my old way of eating. I must make that waffle. Yum! Avocado toast is my morning treat that gets me through the day. I top it with TJ’s bagel topping or with some red pepper flakes and 1-2 teaspoons of my special seed jar I keep in the fridge. It’s a combo of pumpkin, sunflower, chia, hemp, and sesame seeds. Loving your channel, Chris! (And John!) Thanks!
Wow that is awesome!Congratulations Jay!! Chris, so great you can help your friend. The will power and determination was all Jay, but you gave him direction. And note to self, don't forget to bring a sharp knife and 3 bananas 😜🌱💚
Great results Jay! I know this plan works. I did not need to loose weight but my Triglycerides went down 96 points in 4 months! Chris you are wonderful friend and UA-camr!
Cooking with The Vegan Zombie....😁 Let's see a video of the new vegan chef!! 👏 We'll like any recipe. We're just happy with and for you. 40lbs?!!🤓 Firefighters like good food, so maybe a nice Autumn Stew with root veggies or pizza or banana nice cream!! 🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞
Congrats.. You have done amazing... Dr Esselstyn called me after I emailed him and gave me the run down personally..what an amazing thing... Im going all in. Been vegan 2 yrs today. However..been on Esselstyn diet for 4 days so far and have already lost 4 lbs. So it definitely works!
10:00 - What I do for a sweetener is I get fresh dates. I boil some water. Usually I just cover the dates with water till they're all covered in the blender. But for 250g dates, use 100ml cold water and 200ml of boiling water. Then I leave them to soak for an hour. Then blend till a sauce. Put in a tablespoon of flax seed to add some fibre. That makes the healthiest sweetener, as it has more fibre and is all the nutrients of the dates. Rather then refined. When I use to eat a lot of maple syrup I got issues with my teeth, but also I was drinking more hibiscus tea as well, which is said to damage the teeth more if you drink it without a straw. Now I rarely use maple syrup, I still drink Hibiscus tea now and again, especially when not feeling great, it's great when feeling ill to drink Hibiscus tea. But not had any serious teeth issues since switching to homemade date syrup. :)
Whole blended dates are better then Maple Syrup. To get maple syrup they tap a tree, then cook it down to make it really sweet. But with dates, you get all the nutrients without cooking the dates down. Here this video explains better: nutritionfacts.org/video/the-healthiest-sweetener/
TheaDragonSpirit That’s what I would think too. But he says he’d go with maple syrup or occasionally dates. www.phillymag.com/be-well-philly/2010/11/18/this-or-that-with-caldwell-b-esselstyn-jr/?amp=1
I see, not really any details, it could simply be a matter of preference in taste over health? Eating whole dates is better for you then maple syrup, especially for the teeth. At least in my case and based on Dr Greger's video on what is the most nutritious sweetener.
They have a new bread from the same company made from rice and almond flour, gluten free! It's also delicious, the ingredients are very clean. thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, Jay! Awesome results! A while ago I found nearly the same recipe for making vegan pancakes (oat flour, nut milk and a very ripe banana). Unfortunately, it kept sticking to the pan so I never got to eat pancakes, but the batter tasted damn good! 😉 Anyway, thank you for the recipes, Chris..and, yes! Justin dark chocolate peanut butter cups ftw! 🙌 (As a former Reese's peanut butter cup addict, they really hit the spot!) xx
I started a raw vegan diet a month before Jay. Can you ask him to share some recipes he’s used and liked since he doesn’t eat any processed foods? Thanks. I recently went back to bread to add something to my diet because I’ve lost so much weight. I missed bread!! I found a gluten free bakery...sesame seed bagels are like heaven to me!
Eileen Mc11 you're lucky to find vegan gluten free! almost every single bread that's pre-made has egg whites or milk powder! it drives me crazy. And I have a great bread recipe but I just am not in a way that I can be making that right now. It's gluten free but it gets fluffy enough that it's not a 2 by 2 piece of toast when you're done LOL I eat mostly Raw but my weak spot is potatoes! I am sorry boys I put salt on them because potatoes are high in potassium and it balances out the flavor. I suppose I could dry and grind celery but I'm just not there right now either. I also don't have a weight issue or any health problems that have anything to do with food. take care.
Eileen Mc11 one other thing if you still have Facebook or have Facebook there's a group called raw food wild riot. It's been around the longest I think and has the longest raw food orders in it that I know of. So you might be interested in them and they have a whole bunch of recipes in the files that you can get into! it's a way of helping you stay raw if that's what you want to do. I don't mind being both. Though I do feel better on raw food and sometimes I just need some cook soup. they do have good recipes and I take everything they say with a lot of thinking on my own. so it's a private group but there's millions of people in there I don't know why it's private anymore but that's how it is. they accept anybody so I don't understand. I think you will enjoy it though I don't know if she still has her story up but the woman who runs the group had MS in a severe way and is almost completely 100% free of it. She was blind and got her vision back. I don't know too much more because I haven't been around them for a long time other than the other day so take care and I hope you enjoy them. if you ask a question you're going to get a lot of answers but they do have good recipes to and it's fun to get in on stuff sometimes
Gomez l Addams thanks so much for your response. There’s a plant based gluten, dairy, and egg free bread from Northern bake house . I first started buying it from Fresh Market. I’m not on Facebook, but my dad is so maybe I’ll check it out on his account. Thanks. I’m experimenting with food mostly raw but now cooked again. With ibs, I have to be so careful of plant foods that worsen my symptoms including my favorites garlic, potatoes and onions among so many more. It’s trial and error. The nightshade veggies seem to have the same reaction as gluten when I eat them so I’ve been avoiding potatoes, onions and tomatoes even though I love them. Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. Best to you .
I am on the same diet the Esselstyn diet plan I just started it, and would love to see more recipes. Eating this way is a big adjustment. Recipes help to make it go easier. Inspired how you got your cholesterol down hoping the same for me.
Chris! I'm so happy for your friends health! It's inspired me to try a this for myself sometime soon seeing as I get to see Caldwell Esselstyn soon at VegFest here in Portland. Hoping to meet him too! I started out myself at 300lbs and I'm down to 240-245 with junky processed foods, but, seeing as he's done it the Esselstyn way, it's encouraged me to try really soon. // I hope you have a wonderful day. Oh and PS? The dogs are doing a lot better since I shared the update with you last. The bichon is still itchy, but way less!
Good! :D I am so glad to see that he is improving himself as well! I told myself, 'Start out with maybe being raw for a week, or less, then ease into cooked foods again.' this way it will reset my pallet from all the salt I take in. On average I am consuming about 3250mg of salt a day and when I binge on junky foods I really want to just have a crappy/lazy day, it hits almost 4000 which is terrifying. - Other times I can keep it below 1800mg. - The biggest issue I have is that there is so much salt in almost everything, so this will teach me how to manage that a lot better. Even if something I buy (example canned beans) claims, 'No Salt Added' I still see the salt content has it, but way less, I still wash off the beans just in case. - Plus as you said, it's way cheaper to make my own. - I remember a long time ago before switching out stuff from diet, my salt intake was 10,000+ which my doctors were surprised I had no issues and my sodium levels have been 136, 139, 142, 138, and 145 each time I've got tested (standard is 135-145) - This was between February 7th 2017 to February 20th 2018. That is for heart attack patients who are dying, not your average person to follow every day. All you have to do is follow the food pyramid or food plate from the FDA and use the vegan options. Just try to get the 5 a day of produce and then a foundation of grains, sparingly fats and oils, and then some protein to fill you up. It isn't hard at all. If you aren't on the junk food tour and ice cream diet, you should have okay health. If you wreck your liver eating a lot of grease and chemicals, then you might have an off balance cholesterol reading.
